Has anyone here played Summoner Wars? I just found out about the game recently and thought it was cool. Should I get the new one or the one from 2009? (I think stores only have the new one though)
>Has anyone here played Summoner Wars? Yes, I have played a little of first edition and a lot of second edition. >Should I get the new one or the one from 2009? Definitely 2nd edition. The first edition was a classic to my understand (I only played it years later) but it has a lot of bugs in its design that 2nd edition fixes. I’m not sure how much you know about how factions are designed in Summoner Wars but each one has a few different types of common units, usually about 4-5 cards worth as well as a handful of unique champions. In first edition the power disparity was so lopsided in the favor of champions that optimal play was to kill your own units to gain magic so you could quickly summon your champions. Then you’d play a game of trying to snipe the enemy summoner. 2E fixed this by making it so that you don’t gain magic by killing your own units anymore and made commons in general a lot stronger. It plays a lot closer to how it was intended than 1E, to the point that the only thing 1E has going for it is generally better art.
