Oh and the cars. It was not the "work" but the "work-rate" that was hard. In GT1 or Sega Rally or something you needed to preserve the low geometry at all costs so the model could be a lumpy soap bar and then had to be painted to look good. By GT2 there's scope to make things like grills and louvres in 3D and so the time spent in the texture booth is cut down to just doing things like drawn on bumper strips. It was ramped to factory conveyor belt speeds and they banged out several hundred for the finished game. I don't know if there will ever be another game like it ever again.
