Also, I think I figured out a semi-decent plan I could put into action. There are some caveats involved, but what decent plan doesn't have them? It involves anonymously sending them emails to their phone carrier addresses, which would show up as an SMS text message on their end. I would be emailing them from a .onion email provider (or the .onion versions of regular email providers) from tor, on a regular tails session. Obviously, these emails aren't going to be E2E, or PGP encrypted, so the chats themselves and my email address would be revealed. Even though the messages aren't super secure though, my real IP address shouldn't be discovered if they do decide to have someone trace them back (as the email service I'm using would never have had my real IP in the first place, only that of a tor relay). Is this plan cracked or am I?
