Godzilla Singular Point Anonymous 04/20/2025 (Sun) 17:54:47 No. 2131
Should I watch it? Why does it have such a bad rep? Am I more likely to enjoy it since I'm into mecha and scifi?
>>2131 >boring as hell >paced slowly as fuck >terrible characters >never goes more than 15 seconds without someone talking >low quality music >animation is average at best >barely any kaiju Worst Godzilla entry, not even a conest.
>>2131 The show was written by a physician rather than a normal writer, this led to the anime spending too much time explaining science mumbo jumbo and most of it being hard to make sense of. The animation is great but I wouldn't recommend it since it's generally really boring, the cast isn't that likeable and there isn't enough kaiju fights. That said it isn't as terrible as people say, it was really hated at release because the only subs available were the official ones who just used the dub dialogue, the dub didn't bother to translate the science stuff so the anime straight up didn't make sense and was essentially unwatchable. But even with the correct subs, this is just too boring. Apparently Toho has plans to release a new Godzilla anime within the next 3 years so hopefully it's done by a better staff. The writer of Singular Point is now adapting the upcoming Ghost in the Shell anime, that will probably fit better with him since he's being forced to faithfully adapt the manga but he'll use his knowledge to make certain stuff more realistic. But that guy just cannot do anime originals.
The biggest problem with Godzilla Singular Point is that is called 'Godzilla'. It feels less of a Godzilla anime and more of a science-centric anime series that just happen to feature Godzilla and his kaiju pals in it as 'actors' for the weird science monsters.
>>2445 You could say the same about 3/4s of the Godzilla franchise.
>>2405 >anime spending too much time explaining science mumbo jumbo I see people asking for more shows to explain the science and the world in more detail but it's typically poison to entertaining writing. There's a reason the quick and easy fallbacks like pushing a pencil through paper get used a lot. You can leave it in the bonus features though.
It insists upon itself.
>>2131 The kaiju aren't the threat, but the symptom of the actual threat which is a metaphysical anomaly the protagonists essentially have to solve a mystery through sleuthing and math to defeat. Very cerebral and the monster fights can be sparse, which makes brainlets and people there for the action upset.
I enjoyed it a lot but it essentially has nothing in common with what Godzilla fans would like, outside of cameos.
>>2131 If the main character looked like that I would watch it.
>>2405 >The show was written by a physician physicist Now see, that's the reason I want to see the show in the first place.
