Omega official reveal from Sports Hochi Newspaper >Main Director: Masayoshi Takesue >A new hero who can control the red cosmic boomerang is born! >The new series "Ultraman Omega" tells the story of the alien Omega who has lost his memory and transformed into the young man "Sorato" on Earth. While communicating deeply with the life form he first encountered, the Earthling, he also started a fierce battle with the monster. The bond between Sorato and the Earthling partner is also a highlight in the play, and it will face the ultimate proposition of "Why Ultraman chooses to protect the Earth". Omega comes from the last letter of the Greek alphabet, which symbolizes "ultimate". His special move is the "Latikrit Ray" released by crossing his red hands, and the red cosmic boomerang "Omega Slugger" is his signature weapon. The setting of the red slugger is the first in the history of Ultraman. >The protagonist Okida Sorato has a childlike innocent and cheerful personality. Whenever he senses the breath of a monster, he will instantly display his superior physical ability. The memory of his identity as Ultraman, the name and characteristics of the monster, etc., gradually awakens in his mind like a puzzle.

>>4058 There we go, Omega profile >The protagonist, Sorato Okida transforms into a Giant of Light that wields a red space boomerang, the Omega Slugger. Having lost his memories and fallen to Earth, his origins and his past are a mystery. When Sorato wills it, the Omega Slugger appears in his hand, then by loading the sparkling pendant he wears around his neck, the Omega Meteo, its wings open and he is enveloped in dazzling lights, transforming into a Giant of Light. Once transformed, he uses the red Omega Slugger on his head as a weapon and slick, exhilarating fights unfold. Whenever he faces someone, whether in the form of Sorato or Omega, the first thing he does is look them in the eye with his palm outstretched towards them. This fleeting gesture is his characteristic Omega Scope pose (as shown in the Teaser Visual). >Height: 50 meters >Weight: 50,000 tons >Special Move: Reticulute Beam, shot by crossing his hands.

>Protagonist: Sorato Okida An alien=Ultraman amnesiac that fell to Earth. He takes an interest in the life forms called humans that he is meeting for the first time. He has a cheerful personality, childlike innocence, and his speech is still awkward. Whenever he senses a kaiju’s presence he suddenly demonstrates extraordinary physical abilities. Additionally, his memories of being Ultraman, kaiju names and their characteristics, and so on come back to him in fragments. Transforming into the 50-meter-tall Omega and fighting with all his might use up a lot of energy, so he is always ravenous after a battle. >Lead Cast: Shori Kondo >Comment from Shori Kondo >I’m Shori Kondo and I play Sorato Okida. First, I’d like to say that I’m thrilled to be able to transform into Ultraman. >As an only child in a single-mother household, when I was little my playmate was an Ultraman toy. >I still remember my mother buying it for me and teaching me the names of each Ultra in the morning. >I wish I could tell my younger self that when he grows up, he gets to be Ultraman! Starting in July, I will save the Earth as Sorato Okida and Ultraman Omega. >I think we have created a charming character. This is a series that both kids and adults can enjoy. Please tune in!
>Lead Director: Masayoshi Takesue >Comment from Director Masayoshi Takesue >I am very happy and enthusiastic to work on my third series as a lead director. >I have been involved in the Ultraman series for over 20 years and have put the greatest themes into my work. This is a story about the Ultra himself. Until now, the series I have acted as lead director for, Ultraman R/B and Ultraman Decker, were classic coming-of-age stories focused on young Earthlings and how they escape a crisis. With Ultraman Omega, my aim is to tell the story of “when they awaken”, where Ultraman himself tries to find the answers to questions like “why do I protect Earth?” and “why do I fight alongside Earthlings?” >I think children and adults alike will enjoy this classic story with likeable characters and impressive kaiju. >Please look forward to seeing the new Ultra in action! >Series Compositors/Head Writers: Toshizo Nemoto, Junichiro Ashiki >Comment from Toshizo Nemoto >In the last series I worked as a compositor, Ultraman Decker, I was aiming for something classic and conventional. This time around I wanted to throw a curveball…but I think it ended up quite conventional. That being said, I think everyone has a different idea of what makes a classic Ultraman story. The first series is the most obvious, but I think it depends on which generation or series you watched. >I’m of the Showa generation but I’ve been influenced by the Heisei generation and I like the New Generation, too. I tried to include elements of those Ultraman series. >I hope Ultraman Omega will become a classic to the children watching it. >Comment from Junichiro Ashiki >I have spent more than half my life with Ultraman and I feel the utmost happiness being involved in creating this new page of Ultraman history. >The heroes I looked up to as a child, the kaiju I loved, and what charmed me. I think Ultraman Omega reminded me of all those things. >I hope this series will make adults nostalgic and bring new excitement to children that they can feel nostalgic about when they grow up. >Let’s support Sorato and Ultraman Omega together!

Tsuburaya Imagination interview with Takesue and Shori Kondo (No VPN required, if you have Tsuburaya Imagination account you can read it for free) https://imagination.m-78.jp/contents/d2ViL1lvbWlfMDE2NTE%3D --Director Takesue was the main director of "Ultraman R/B" and "Ultraman Decker," but how do you feel about being the main director of "Ultraman Omega"? >Director Takesue: In "R/B," we told the story of people who are not part of the defense team, and in "Decker," we told the story of the defense team. I think that in these two films, we were able to strongly portray the story of young people's growth. In this "Ultraman Omega," I have taken on a new challenge: to create a new Ultraman with a strong character by first introducing a protagonist with a strong impact. The new hero, Ultraman Omega, has a very new design and existence, and I think he is an Ultraman that has a position that we have not seen much before. --From your perspective as a director, what are the distinctive features of Ultraman Omega as a character? >Director Takesue: The first thing I want to promote, and this was also the case in previous works, is that "Ultraman and the person who transforms are the same." Kondo-san's character, Okida Sorato, is Ultraman Omega himself who has lost his memories, and I want to depict things like "how Ultraman protects the Earth" and "why Ultraman protects the Earth together with humans." Having been involved in the series for many years, this is the biggest theme I wanted to do. In terms of design, I wanted to make an Ultraman with a red face. Up until now, there have been Ultraman Zearth and Ultraman Z Beta Smash with red faces, but there has never been an Ultraman with a bright red face in the basic form of the TV series. So by making his face red, I wanted to emphasize that this is a new Ultraman, a different species from the Ultramen that have come before. --There is also a transformation item here, but Ultraman Omega is an Ultraman whose symbol is a red slugger. >Director Takesue: This time, we decided that Ultraman fights using a slugger, and the design was based on the concept that it is also a transformation item. In recent years, the design of the color timer has often been linked to the transformation item, but this time, the red slugger, which is his weapon, is the transformation item itself, and when the slugger is opened, it links to the design on his chest.
>>4234 --Mr. Kondo, what were your honest thoughts when you found out you would be playing the lead role? Kondo Shori: I was really happy. I think Ultraman is a hero that everyone knows, and I've been watching it since I was little. Anyway, I was a boy who liked heroes, so I thought I would become a hero from a young age. I didn't want to be an actor, I thought I would become a hero, but when I grew up, I realized the reality that I couldn't become a hero unless I became an actor. (Everyone laughs) >Kondo Shori: No, I didn't become an actor to become a hero, I became an actor because I admired the profession of acting. When I was 20, I thought that I could become a hero as soon as I became an actor. But I didn't have that opportunity, and when I was 24 or 25 and tried to audition for a hero program, I couldn't take it because of schedule conflicts. At that time, I thought that my last chance to become a hero was gone. When I was about 26, people said that I couldn't become a hero anymore. But then, when I was 29, this opportunity came. I thought, what I had imagined has finally come after 9 years! So I think that the things I keep wishing for and the things I thought about as a child can come true. I'm happy to have become a hero, and I'd be happy if I could convey that everyone has the potential to become a hero.
>>4236 --How did you end up being cast as Sorato? >Director Takesue: It wasn't an audition, it was a casting. I had already narrowed it down to Kondo, and then we had a final interview. That's where I met him for the first time. >Kondo: It wasn't a typical audition with a lot of people participating, but I thought it was an audition. They said it was a "face-show" but I thought they were being a bit considerate and calling it an audition a "face-show". So when I went, there were dozens of people waiting in a big studio, and I thought "This is really an audition after all! I've been tricked!" (laughs). >Director Takesue: On the other hand, in the case of auditions, there are usually less than 10 people (laughs). This time, it was a casting, so there were a lot of people. >Kondo: Moreover, it was about an hour and a half. I talked a lot. After chatting for about 30 minutes, I did the acting and action scenes, and I think that chat helped me to ease my tension. >Takesue: During the practical training, we were talking about whether there was any action that he was good at, and when I saw him spin and do a somersault, I secretly decided at that moment, "Let's incorporate this!" and had him do it in the play. >Kondo: I thought of it as an audition, so I did everything I could. I think that paid off.
>>4244 --Mr. Kondo, what was your impression when you first saw the visual of Ultraman Omega? >Kondo Shori: To be honest, when I first saw it, it was different from what I had imagined, so I thought, "Seriously?!" Ultraman Tiga that I watched as a kid had a silver face. When I first saw it, I was a bit dumbfounded. >Director Takesue: But, you see, this reaction was exactly what I was aiming for. I want people to be surprised when they see the visuals for the first time. When they see it for the first time, they're bound to go, "Huh?!" But by the second time, they start to get used to it. >Kondo Shori: That's how it was for me too. Now I just think, "It's cool!". Recently, I've started to think that Omega's face looks like mine (laughs). >Director Takesue: That's a thing for Ultraman actors (laughs). This time in particular, I made the poses and mannerisms the same before and after the transformation, and I put a lot of emphasis on uniformity. That's why he's wearing a red tank top, and why him wearing this item around the chest in the same way as after transformation. >Kondo Shori: There were a lot of different choices when it came to choosing the costume. Takesue wanted (me) to wear a tank top, so we tried out tank tops in a variety of colors. There were black, white, and even brownish ones. Among them was a red one that I never worn, and when I tried it on, he thought it looked good.
>>4067 He kinda looks like the Kiramai Yellow guy
>>4248 --As you just mentioned, I imagine that playing the role of Ultraman who has lost his memory is extremely difficult in some ways, but how difficult or interesting was it to play the role? >Kondo Shori: I didn't feel it was difficult, but I was conscious of the mysteriousness, strangeness, and discomfort of starting from a blank slate. I also tried to use strange pauses and have conversations that seem to work but don't. I thought it would be nice to start from there and gradually get used to the environment by interacting with the people I meet on Earth. >Director Takesue: As I mentioned earlier, this isn't a coming-of-age story, but rather a story about how a person loses his memory, and is influenced by those around him, ultimately forming the type of person he becomes. Personally, I place emphasis on the idea of "changing, not growing." I felt my way around how to incorporate this in the play, but I think I was able to convey it well.
>>4248 --One more thing I'd like to ask Director Takesue: this time, neither Ultraman nor monsters have appeared in the world; the word "monster" doesn't even exist. Why did you decide to create this kind of worldview? >Director Takesue: This is really the first time, so I started with a worldview in which monsters have not been recognized since the dawn of history. I think "monsters" are very important in the world of Ultraman, so I wanted to go with a worldview in which Ultraman called them that. So, I think there are panic movies in this world that feature giant creatures, but I don't know whether they are "monsters" or "giant creatures," and they're not called "monsters."
>>4252 --Thank you. Just from what I've heard today, I can tell that Ultraman is packed with many new challenges. Finally, I'd like you two to talk about the appeal of "Ultraman Omega." >Kondo Shori: The form is also innovative, and I think it's a truly new Ultraman. Sorato, the character I play, is told from a child's perspective, so I think even children will be able to relate to him, and I think adults can also enjoy the work while thinking about what Ultraman is, what monsters are, and what humans are. There are parts that will make you laugh and parts that will make you cry, so I think it's a highly entertaining work, so I hope everyone will watch it. >Director Takesue: First of all, this time I made it with the intention of making something that children can enjoy watching more than usual. As Kondo said, I think Sorato's perspective is basically a child's perspective. This time, I wanted to create a story that asks, "How does Ultraman see the Earth and humans?" >In terms of the story, I think it's an interesting work that can be enjoyed by existing fans, children who will watch it in the future, and adults who have once left it. There are really many developments waiting for us, so I hope you will watch it with excitement, with both joy and sorrow. It's definitely a cool Ultraman, that much I can promise you!

>>4795 I haven't, but I plan on watching them and listening to the audio dramas. Regardless, at this point, for the large amount of screentime he got, the character seriously spent most of his time spinning his wheels and acting needlessly mysterious despite his implied backstory (at least going by the TV series and movies he's included in) seeming pretty straightforward. It feels like they really wanted another Juggler but didn't plan anything out, so there weren't any twists or surprises.
