GW withdrew the license in a fit of jealousy and put out some shittier 40K rpg’s. Traveller still exists and is good as far as I know. Battletech still exists but Catalyst Games ruined it, Shadowrun was doing well for a while, then Catalyst Games ruined it. Modiphius came out with a Fallout RPG They came out with Twilight 2013, which the /k/ommandos liked, and then they came out with a new instantiating of Twilight 2000 a couple years ago that I know nothing about. Some Spanish weebs came out with a wargame called Infinity, and then made an RPG for it. I have not seen a GURPS thread in over a decade. Drive-Thru RPG does print on demand, but piracy and torrenting are common. Homebrewed settings and systems are common. Most people play either online or among private groups of friends they are confident won’t cancel them. The FLGS’s are no longer friendly, local, and they probably won’t exist at all within a couple of years. You kind of completely missed the RPG Renaissance, but you’re just in time to witness the tail end of the industry’s second death. I have no idea what you would play if you wanted to recreate the 3.5 Forgotten Realms experience where there’s ten wizards behind every rock, you can be any sort of chimeric monstrosity or face any sort of chimeric monstrosity so long as you have the templates for it, and be buried in magic items.
