SMW ROMHACKS (and other romhacks I guess) Anonymous 04/05/2025 (Sat) 21:00:25 Id: 97fd86 No. 1086469
Any love for Super Mario World romhacks around these parts? It's my favorite Mario title and 2D platformer in general by far for the tight movement and fast gameplay, and romhacks have made this shine. Here are some hacks I really enjoyed: >Pic related Pretty easy overall with the exception of a few secret levels but the game looks amazing. All the sprites are hand drawn and the music choice is nice. You've probably played it if you're ITT but if not do it. >New Super Mario World 1: The Twelve Magic Orbs Powered-Up Specifically the Powered-Up version as this is an update to an older hack. So many cool custom power ups in this remake and unique levels that take advantage of them. Long, but worth 100%ing. The final boss will make you cry (with frustration). >Super Mario World: The Secret of the 7 Golden Statues Another hack with cool custom power ups and some really tough levels. Some annoying areas but still a great hack overall. >JUMP 1/2 Definitely the most creative hack out there that's not total nonsense. This game can be very difficult at times but each stage or couple of stages introduces a new gimmick. I dont want to give anything away, it's way more fun to work your way through this sadistic adventure yourself. 130 exits, many fun but many very challenging. >Akogare My own personal kaizo autism. Never finished it due to losing my save file but I completed around 30 exits and got some switch palaces too. Normally I was never down for kaizo but I tried Akogare and after I completed stage 1 I couldn't stop. The game is beautifully designed, and even when I was trolled by the dev I wasn't mad because I was having fun doing the stage anyway. Not for everyone, but a great personal challenge. I could go on. But please Anons tell me about your love for romhacks and post your favorites as well.

>>1086469 Oh I forgot to mention if you are interested in SMW romhacks but have never done it go to smwcentral.net and click on "Hacks" on the righthand sidebar. A tutorial pops up at the top of the page.

While not smw, I've spent all day trying to get the sma4:smb3 ereader cards to work on an emulator. Specifically the switch cards, like the blue green switch for american smb2 turnips and the enemy power up switch that supposedly replaces some enemies with harder ones. My printer doesn't have the resolution to print the dotcodes for that or custom levels but thats seemingly the only route left, and I already have the nip ereader+.
As far as smw, vip 3 and 4 are nice.
All hail giga
>>1086545 For some reasom this reminded me of some with hentai art after beating the game.
Almost done with the sprite, but chances are I'm gonna turn /v/orld thread into personal /v/orld-related art dump just to have fun making OCs.
What the fuck did Mark do... Not important tho. New progress on sprites so far.
>>1088691 We used to support a lot more file formats, hell we even had Ruffle for SWFs, but bad actors changed that fast. :/
Trying out a new hack from one of my favorite creators of "Nintendo style" Mario games, Bandicoot. SMW Friends and Rivalry, this hack starts out quite easy but in Bandicoot style he gives you more movement options from later Mario games such as wall kick and long jump, and he makes use of them. The later levels get pretty difficult. I'm not quite done with it yet but I would recommend.
>>1096573 Also I should mention another aspect of Bandicoot hacks he uses quite often is this interface on every level (pic related). This is quite useful as collecting the Yoshi coins unlocks secrets later in the game so it lets you know which levels you may need to go back to. The kudos moons are just extra challenge afaik, they don't usually unlock anything in his hacks.
>>1089411 Manage to finish Meatboy's small form. The big form consist of Meatboy and Bandage Girl, like Starfist and Starla Punch. Wish anons here at 8moe could help out with sprite design. If its any consolations, you can use Moot sprite to make fun of him like those old flash parodies.

I tried making a SMW romhack years ago but I lost the motivation to do it, afterwards I made more romhacks/mods that were never released to the public, which of course, most of them are not finished and cancelled, all for the same reason, I was burned out to the point of pretty much gave up. After seeing this thread though, maybe I should start coming back my own romhacking days. The simpler times.
Bump to counter spam.
So what's going on with all the romhacking site drama at this point? RHDC was supposed to be kill but now it's getting uploads again and now I'm not sure where is getting the most new releases anymore.
Anyone got that one romhack where the whole game take place in the World Map?
>>1195390 My QLDC Level?
>>1199489 YES, that is the one. Thanks

>>1086522 why don't they have a hack that enables them by default
So someone recommended me Mario Eclipse, a hack for Super Mario Sunshine. They also said you could skip the tutorial. Anyone know how to do that? It's weirdly difficult for some reason.
>>1490338 >they Multiple Anons suggested it? >Eclipse tutorial >difficult I do not understand.
>>1490981 I cannot, for the life of me, make that jump on the mushrooms that requires you to nozzle boost at a weird time.

>>1006448 I’m not gonna be active on this thread anymore because it’s demoted to SMW romhack general now, but there’s major update of version 1.1 progress: >I implemented functionality for actually switching characters finally: https://streamable.com/3pwg32 >It looks a bit janky, but it's a start. I also scrapped the exanimation for switching the extra GFX00 tiles and just do the DMA myself now, although it might still need some optimisation to avoid vblank overflow.
>>1583144 >video isn't available anymore
>>1583144 How did you manage to implement more than 4 characters?
>>1628904 So, has anyone else actually played this? I completed it on the day it was released and I can't say I really enjoyed it much. There's a small handful of genuinely interesting and fun encounters, but they're overshadowed by a large number of overwhelmingly difficult sequences where I started abusing save states to cut down the amount of time wasted in between attempts.
>>1628904 sweet
>>1628904 HOCHI MAMA, I've been waiting for this hack for almost 5 years.
