Marathon Anonymous 04/17/2025 (Thu) 19:13:00 Id: a314ba No. 1117696
now that (previous) /v/ is gone I can be honest: yes I saw the nuMarathon and genuinely think it has potential I liked the visuals, some of the gameplay, the music and I can tell it's going to build up on the lore from the previous games. also it's making me want to play the older games too just for the previous reason >it's an extraction shooter yea I know, always wanted to try that anyway discuss and post images NOW

How long until Gamergate is blamed for Marathon's failure?

>>1367095 >>1367106 Maybe they actually paid for it? I know Bungie has rocks for heads these days, but surely they aren't THAT stupid and artistically and morally bankrupt. I can't see how they could think they could get away with this.
>>1384284 They are that stupid, let's be honest.
>>1384284 It seems pretty brazen. Even if the artist they stole from doesn't have a lot of followers, I would think that an artist like that would look at the source themselves as new material to draw inspiration since the styles and aesthetic are similar. It seems to not have a lot of wisdom or foresght. Even an idiot knows not to follow someone on their main account.
>>1384284 >>1384329 The artist has said it was taken without their consent or knowledge. Bungie claims to know who did this, but I'd like to remind you this is the fifth time they've been caught doing this. They're just scapegoating some unnamed employee who conveniently doesn't work at the company anymore.
>>1384329 >Even an idiot knows not to follow someone on their main account. I don't think you understand just how dumb people are.
>>1381005 >t. Amazon shill
>>1367106 >>1367095 They could have just made their own shit or commissioned the guy for art, but nah Incredibly foolish and scummy
>>1384408 >this is the fifth time they've been caught doing this Tell us more

>>1388172 I can't remember them all, but two I can recall were the Nerf scandal (stolen a design from Tofu Rabbit) and stealing a scene for The Witness from a Julian Faylola piece. This is a pattern, and Bungie always excuses it as a contractor or some unnamed third-party. They've done the same thing with Marathon but this time nobody buys it, both of these cases were relatively recent.
>>1389472 Fucking grim. What a bunch of cunts.
>>1154104 LCD is a trash technology and games made for crt or oled always look better
>>1389472 It's the fact this happens so frequently with Bungie that turned much of their core audience away from Marathon. Yes, one could argue about the director's earlier work and the variety of influences and the history of vectorheart and blah blah fucking blah - none of that matters when the studio has a proven track record of plagiarism. Bungie has thrived on benefit of the doubt for so long that people aren't willing to give it to them this time. Yes, Bungie copied much of Marathon's art style from ANTIREAL, the Designer's Republic, etc. Anything about Cross's work or some bullshit is cope. >>1389838 Egregious, isn't it? As I said above, Bungie having done this repeatedly is why their community is going full shithouse on Marathon. There is no good faith explanation for this to keep happening.
>>1127893 >The marketing campaign was really well done lol <Report: Marathon Delay Likely as Sony Cancels All Paid Marketing Plans >Now, a new report claims that Sony has cancelled all paid marketing plans for Marathon. This information comes from Colin Moriarty, who shared the news in the latest (paywalled) episode of the Sacred Symbols+ podcast. This reportedly came from someone familiar with the marketing efforts in an overseas market, and is “considered a fairly unusual move for a game of this high profile.” https://archive.is/oNY1P
>>1400527 >cancel all paid marketing Even if they are delaying the game, all paid marketing still seems a bit steep. Even some slight shilling would be more appropriate versus radio silence as Sony twists Bungie's arm to morph Marathon into something else within the next 18 months

This certainly didn't age well.
Bungie needs to be shut down.
>>1400527 >marketing anon was right das it mane
What's the news here? I don't even want to google it and give them visibility.
>>1407420 Bungle was making a new Marathon game as an extraction shooter for some godforsaken reason. News came out that they were plagiarizing an artists work, including proof of them outright just copy pasting his stuff. News then also came out by employees that the entire project has been a shit show and they hate their lives.
>>1407420 Bungie is still falling apart. >Caught stealing art assets for the game, they apologized and were forced to do a full audit of the game to ensure nothing else was stolen >Employee morale is completely broken with accusations of a miserable, humiliating, and toxic workplace with comically greedy and retarded leadership that is subject to frequent changes in both staff and creative directions >Marketing for Marathon is now scrapped meaning it is going to be delayed or even potentially canceled/retooled completely >Community/fan reaction has been largely negative for a myriad of reasons also their own test reactions have been reportedly negative as well

>>1408889 If you remember a few years ago they were the ones who playtested TLOU Factions Multiplayer and were part of the reason why it was canned. Makes you think that the game could've had potential if Bungie didn't shit on it.
>>1408959 I'd imagine anyone who accepted help from bungie should probably be rethinking or at least double checking anything they assisted with.
Not to kick a dead horse while it's down, but it looks like the game has been delayed "indefinitely" which likely means until at least the end of this fiscal year. If it doesn't come out past March then its a true sign that they're trying to pivot the game.
>>1484356 Most devs didn't even know it was delayed. What a fucking disaster. How do you go from Helldivers to this? And Sony even managed to fuck that one up.
>>1408959 Or maybe it was so shit, that not even Bungie could see potential in it.
(420.37 KB 2392x1344 Halo under old Bungie.png)

>>1408959 Considering how bungie designs their games nowadays they were probably more disappointed how the game wasn't monetized enough. They had a whole GDC talk about not making your games too good or you wont be able to sell an expansion next year.
>>1484654 >They had a whole GDC talk about not making your games too good or you wont be able to sell an expansion next year. Outlawing business schools would be a net gain for humanity.
>>1484775 Probably but it'd probably make devs less responsible with money and deadlines overall.
