Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma Anonymous 04/24/2025 (Thu) 10:05:27 Id: 470eff No. 1239561
>>1299151 >the fanbase for these games were young kids I meant harvest moon games not main stream goon games.
>>1297567 get used to it. new artists are allergic to film grain, lineart and 360p 24fps animation. everything has to look lineartless, vibrant oversaturated 4k 60fps interpolated with blocky animation for quick scenes. being a shounen fan this last decade has been hard.
>>1299038 >with 5 did you miss the mineral town demake? that shit was crap. they ruined all the character models. look what they did to my boys. >>1299097 its alright, it was a long time ago. it did kill my faith in the modding community. I started hoarding mods and mod versions since my eyes were openned. which turned out to be the right call.
>>1292448 Yeah I had heard that too. It's a shame because there are little events throughout the dungeon that along with the big enemies (FEAR) that felt similar to Etrian Odyssey. I didn't hate the combat but I'm starved for decent turn based games.
>>1299169 How has that affected shonen? Are you talking about animation? Video games from shonen franchises?

>>1239561 Characters look uninspired as fuck
>>1299201 As much as I like the bishounen twinks, I miss the old designs because you at least had a decent mix of conventionally attractive men and freakish weirdos. When it's all conventionally attractive ikemen fucks, it's not as fun.
>>1300566 The character you posted has so much more soul it's unreal.
>>1299201 Holy fuck. Just looking at the guys and their past selves side by side, they've all devolved into miserable milquetoast shit like 6e mexican orcs. I'm sorry Won, you can't look like a Chinese caricature now, sweet baby says that's offensive.
>>1239561 Seeing this reminds me I never got around to playing RF3S Probably should. Likely would be better than this too...

>>1299169 >lineless Are you retarded? Did you mean new directors? Do you want toon shading for the models? You're in a videogame thread complaining about animation in anime? >>1299201 As a chink I'm actually disappointed at the new Won design. Fuck culture warriors.

>>1239561 Just Finished 5 I find it interesting that we get to cuck julian
>>1317071 Holy fuck completely different looking children? Fucking revolutionary.
>>1317071 Damn, now I have to pick the girl with the cutest child.
>>1317071 Looks like male protag gets sons and female protag gets daughters? Weird to evenly split it like that
Game's being shilled hard on my youtube recommends Looks like someone paid off a bunch of mid tier youtubers to try make it the next FOTM Prediction: dies in a week or two like propped up FOTM shut like expedition 33
>>1438656 It's officially out today, right? We'll start seeing the real reviews come in at least
>>1438656 Expectition 33 is actually good unlike globohomo factory

Damn, it's actually out? I kinda forgot it was already. Has anyone here played or do I gotta rely on YouTube, halfchan, and u/fags? For no reason, have an unrelated Korean bikini pic.

Sorry to hijack but I'm looking for games in this vein but without the tumblr faggotry in it. I also want combat, no matter how minimal it is. Been playing Tales Of Seikyu but it's pretty barebones currently and I'm finished with the main story for now. Also I'll post an unrelated Korean gacha pic. It's not a bikini, but close enough.
>>1438948 I mean, aside from Rune Factory 4? (Or the older ones if you don't mind emulating/getting 3DS and DS games) Fantasy Life comes to mind and it got a sequel on steam/switch just recently with great reviews, not to mention the 3DS original. No sexy fanart bait characters though. Other than that, I really can't think of very much that is like Rune Factory. Especially if you don't want tumblr ass Stardew Valley type stuff. I think a huge number of people slept on rune factory before stardew valley, actually, and so there was not much competitors or imitators.
>>1439303 I enjoyed the original Fantasy Life but it's kind of barebones in terms of a community building kind of game. It's also really expensive for what it is. I'm okay with Stardew Valley's level of tumblr, just don't want things like pic related. Might give the new RF a try, but I never really liked the lack of player customization in these games.
Oh yeah, I did decide to just go play it last night. It's been a long week and rune factory seemed like the thing. I only got about 2.5hrs in but i can already tell it's WAY better than 5. Technically it's unimpressive and theres a couple ugly assets hanging around (scaled up meme tree) but the characters look great and the overall vibe of towns and explorable areas is 100x better, they're more fun to look at and to navigate. Combat feels 100x better too and it's a main focus of course. Just from early on you can tell villagers to do your farming and you can dance around for basically free to make your crops grow 1-2 days worth instantly. However the villagers kind of suck at it so your profit is way better if you do the farming yourself. It seems like you can easily make a ton of cash doing your own farming but it will take some work to make your farm effective all on its own.
>>1442704 It's more of animal crossing than rune factory but it's fine.
Just started playing. What kind of fucking attire is this kek? 😂
Wait nigga this is so retarded how do I run out of "land plot" items? Without those I can't plow more land? LMFAO what
>>1457005 Later you'll get plenty. It's a trick of give you enough space for large buildings without giving you all the farm land right away. That said, were the helpers in rune factory always this stupid? I get annoyed that my villagers just plant random shit and leave a random pattern of fields un-watered. Am I misremembering or did monster helpers in the previous games plant the same stuff they just harvested?
>>1457495 I never asked my monster helpers to plant stuff back in RF1 and 2.... I didn't trust them for anything but watering and stuff.
>>1457544 Oh yeah. You could tell them individually to water, harvest and sow. Yeah, you can't do that in Azuma. Or maybe you couldn't in 4 and 5 either. Ugh, I might have to replay 4 later.
>>1247057 >bamco's DEI plan. The what now? First time I hear about this.
>>1438656 Well, it's as I said. Complete flame out: high peak, no staying power. Once the youtubers stopped everything vanished from my radar. (Sigh) Old man rant incoming, so just skip ahead if you don't care. I hate everything that this genre has become, the movement from the days of HM SNES and HM64 when the games were themed about proving yourself worthy of your inheritance, the state of the ranch and your rebuilding it as part of the cycle of life and death. AWL was fucky as a game, but the themes that built HM up to this point really came out strongest, and it all went downhill from there imo. Sure, there was the dating dim aspect of the games, but getting married and having a kid tied back to the cycle of life and inheritance themes. Somewhere along the way, it all became shit and turned into a VN with dressings. Every game in the franchise strayed further and further, and the warning signs could have been seen, but the commodification of human relationships, the break from the natural world with winter crops, and once the trial balloon for magical tree babies to paper over the sterile nature of the VN amusement park was floated in trio of towns it's now a staple. Somehow, the marriage do-overs in Azuma don't surprise me, it was long overdue anyway. People and relationships are just product to be consumed for enjoyment and one's gotta see all the routes, I understand. ...Whatever, I guess. Emulation and roms still exist. I'm just an old fuck.
>>1457995 Really! I see. >>1469822 Wait, was expedition 33 not well received? Even the Astlibra dev started playing it lately so I was thinking of giving it a try. I never played harvest moon, only rune factory 1 and 2 so I don't understand most of your complaints, but I don't see what you mean by "commodification of human relationships" - that's what characters exist for you to do, befriend and get to know better. It seems like you're complaining about a Rune Factory game by applying standards from Harvest Moon games, or...? Marriage do-overs are surprising though. Haven't heard of that.
>>1470963 >Wait, was expedition 33 not well received? It was received extremely well. It has one of the highest, if not the highest, gaming metacritic scores in both official and audience reviews. It sold extremely well for what it cost and is highly likely to win goty at the Geoff awards for what that's worth. Some anons on this site seem personally offended by it and I have no idea why. But no matter how much they whine they can't counteract it's success.
>>1469822 Last good HM/SoS was Trio of Towns on 3DS, I think. It felt like the last one with that sort of atmosphere, especially with the protagonist's dad expecting them to prove they could be a farmer throughout the game. And RF4 for Rune Factory, of course. But both series have gone down heavily in quality. You only have to look at the remake of Friends of Mineral Town to see it. They added two new characters to date and allowed you to date whoever you wanted but then removed Rival Marriages, didn't flesh out the existing special marriage candidates, and didn't change the effects of the Truth Gems despite the fact that you can now see your health and stamina bars by default now. No matter what aspect of the games you liked, there's no reason to play the new ones when there's other better games that do similar things these days or you could just play the older ones.
I don't understand why the most beautiful girl among the choices offered has to be saddled with foot fetishism; at the same time, I'm not surprised, given how Uraraka looks. She has this in common with Kanata, who also seems to be a goddess (I haven't played the game--seems the high seas are the only route for it). Why the exposed feet? Uraraka's outfit would have been fetching without such a flaw. Whomever originally thought toeless/footless thighhighs constitute an aesthetically pleasing fashion design should be shot and left among the bushdwellers he or she fetishizes so ardently; those designers who ape that person should be flogged to contrition--or also left in the bush if they prove incorrigible.
