GANG OF DRAGON - Toshihiro Nagoshi is based as fuck Anonymous 12/12/2025 (Fri) 05:05:26 Id: 64d5fb No. 2010621
>Be Toshihiro Nagoshi >fill plenty of rolls at SEGA - Designer, Director, Producer, Supervisor, Manager >All your shits great, but you want to make something specific that you know will have an impact >Crima Drama inspired by Yakuza films that takes place in Kabukicho, because that place rocks >have to deal SEGA executive skepticism, as if everything you make isn't gold >Microsoft and Nintendo both reget your game because it would only appeal to Japanese adult males. >"Okay guess it'll only be on the highest selling console on the market" >game comes out "suprise" it kicks ass, and sells a shitload in Japan. >doesn't do the best in the west, so all those English voice actors like Mark Hamill, Michael Madsen weren't worth the investment. >"Eh who needs english voice acting anyway" >You and your team are so good at your jobs you can make a sequel that improves everything in just a year >Simply continuing at the pace you always have and not being an idiot you continue to make sequels that don't needessly waste perfectly fine resorces, so they come out in a timely fasion >It's your game and you can do whatever the fuck you want, so you higher whatever pornstars you or your team like to be in the game >Eventually the western side of SEGA figures out how to stop being ass at marketing your games >Your game becomes the most profitable part for all of SEGA, because you're not an idiot, and know what makes a good game. >You have to be a SEGA Executive or whatever, kind of broing and lame, you'd rather be making some games. >End up calling some Fat Fuck Puyo puyo Fat Fucks. >Get nagged at that "you can't do that shit" >Eh fuck this place it was getting gay around here anyway >"I'll make my own studio because I know what it takes to make a good video game, it's fucking easy." >Since you've left the game you made has been getting a kind of lamer, and fans are upset about some Actor guy they put in the Remake of the 3rd game or something >The place you used to work at tells everyone to watch The Game Awards "Huh I guess I should show my game there too, it's about ready to show off" >everyone sees your game, and doesn't even know what game SEGA apprently showed off >Your game is a Crima Drama inspired by Yakuza films that takes place in Kabukicho, because that place rocks >"I make the best games man"
>>2012614 >Remind me again, what did the Y3 remaster fuck up? Is it responsible for the "Blockuza 3" meme? In essence yes. Enemies block far too aggressively, the quickstep doesn't go as far as it should, your stamina runs out faster durring chase sequences. Anything that relied on the game logic being 30fps to function correctly was broken when they upped the cap to 60fps. Yakuza 4 remastered probably has the same problems, but it's not as noticeable as 3 remastered. Since Yakuza 3's bosses are actually well-designed and take full advantage of the combat system, but when that combat system is broken then the game feels broken. You can actually use how the ai in the game is broken now to your advantage, since if you attack an enemies block on purpose, they're retaliate in a predictable fasion, and you can exploit that with a Komaki Parry, but this requires you to actually be pretty good at Yakuza which the majority of people aren't, since being good at these games isn't typically expected from the player. Another problem with all 3 Remasters is people think the Pool mini-game is impossible, and in Y5 ask you to play pool in the Main story, now actually winning isn't required to continue, but people are obviously going to want to try and win. Pool is broken because they never redid the calibration on a controller analog sticks, to accommodate modern controllers, I'm pretty sure the calibration is still at whatever values only work for a PS3 controller. The worst part of this is that Yakuza 0 still uses the exact same fucking pool mini-game only it actually works on modren controllers, so all they had to do was get the code from Yakuza 0, and plop it into the remasters to avoid this. It's clear that nobody, with proper knowledge on how these games are supposed to play when functioning correctly, was there testing the Remasters. The games are Technically beatable 100%, and that's "Good Enough"
>>2012659 >Since Yakuza 3's bosses are actually well-designed and take full advantage of the combat system, but when that combat system is broken then the game feels broken. This isn't meant to make it sound like Yakuza 4 or the other games bosses are bad, but Yakzua 3 in particular has fantastic bosses because they are all designed around Kiryu's move list that has been well established since Yakuza 1 & 2 at that point. The other games either have multiple characters, or the engine changes or whatever, so the combat or boss design never really got back to it being balanced around skillful play again. This is gameplay of the Remsater on PC, and I can make it look good, but a typical new player is going to not be having a good time, especially if they're going from Kiwami 2 a 2017 game to Yakuza 3 a 2009 game, it's clearly very jarring for people, that skip the original Yakzua 1 and 2.
>>2010621 >third pic They were talking about total war.

I'm gonna buy this game alongside Bradley the badger.
>>2012692 Yeah, but realistically nobody who considers themselves a fan of "SEGA" associates the company with RTS. Everyone was expecting Sonic, or hoping to see more from this list the announced prior, to which we've only seen Shinobi release with it's game.
>>2012719 I wonder whatever happened with that new Streets of Rage game?
>>2012723 Everything they showed in the Power Surge trailer, aside from Shinobi. Was likely mock gameplay that they used to pitch to the higher ups, or something along those lines. They game likely were still very early in development, if real development on them started at all, hopefully we're gonna be seeing more from them soon, because it'll be a damn shame if they hyped people up so much and not delivered at least something.
>>2012728 Ah, that makes sense then. I just hope they give Tyris this design and scrap the Dad of War direction from the original trailer.
>>2012737 Here are the designs of the reboot, it's honestly really crappy.
>>2012743 Could be worse, could be Wayforward art. Why's the half shaved look still being used?
>>2012857 >Why's the half shaved look still being used? This was back when it was popular.
>>2012719 They were warned countless times by people with an actual brain. Their retarded fault.

>>2012719 >>2012723 There's a good chance most, if not all, of the new revival games yet to be released got canceled. Take a look at what would have been the new SoR or Golden Axe and you see that they looked like cheap mobile phone games. Not exactly the best foot forward for what's supposed to bring back long-dead franchises. The only games I can see still being in development is JSR and Crazy Taxi, and even then, it's still pretty likely they got scrapped.
>>2011855 Either 0 or the original PS2 games. Then play 3-4-5-0 (if you didn't start with 0) -6 and leave the series. Check the spinoffs if you want (Feudal Japan games, zombie game, PSP games) but never go beyond 6. 7 is where the series fully become reddit lolsorandumb wholesome 100 chungus keanu territory. Also skip the Kiwami games like other anons said, they change way too many things for the worse.
>>2013495 >Check the spinoffs if you want (Feudal Japan games, zombie game, PSP games) School me on the Yakuza reskins and spinoffs. I know about Lost Paradise and Pirate Yakuza and both are pretty high on my list to start with.
>>2013520 Why this and Sakura War never got PC ports is beyond my comprehension.
>>2013495 >6 and leave the series. >7 is where the series fully become reddit lolsorandumb wholesome 100 chungus keanu territory. Ah, don't be like that. I already stated the Zaney stuff already started in at least Yakuza 3, and absurd stuff happened all the time from then on. By the time you get to 7 it really isn't that much of a leap for them to have leaned into it a bit more for the sake of making an entreating turn based combat system, and trying something new with Ichiban. They wrung the formula they had been using dry, so 7 being a shake up was necessary to breathe some new life into the series, and it stuck the landing just fine. At this point I'll take the turn based combat that can at least make me strategize, over the Beat-em-up gameplay which continued to get less challenging.
>>2013520 >Kenzan and Ishin Games set in old Japan. Kenzan never left JP which i believe is because they portray Haruka as a brothel worker but Ishin got a remaster not long ago. >Dead Souls PS3 zombie shooter spinoff. Suffers from performance issues, but could be fun if you can make it work. >Kurohyo 1&2 PSP titles with 1v1 fights made by Def Jam devs. They have translations available so definitely check them out. >Judgment Plays very much like regular Yakuza but you're a detective. Fun game if you crave for more Yakuza gameplay. >Lost Judgment Continuation of Judgment. Admittedly didn't play it because i tuned out of the series after 7. >Majima Pirate Didn't play it either and honestly i don't care at this point. >>2013549 >I already stated the Zaney stuff already started in at least Yakuza 3, and absurd stuff happened all the time from then on. Comedy was still reserved for the lighthearted side stuff, but the main character being a literal schizo who imagines fighting family lieutenants as Dragon Quest boss fights with magic and shit is too much for me.
>>2012371 >Third image Rikiya sort of looks fine, but my God, talk about ruining the other two.
>>2013578 > but the main character being a literal schizo who imagines fighting family lieutenants as Dragon Quest boss fights with magic and shit is too much for me. The marketing makes it seem more prevalent then it really is, The Dragon Quest stuff informs the fact Ichiban wants to be a hero, like in the games he played in his youth, and giving a narrative context for the gameplay style, but after it's properly introduced, the Dragon Quest imagination stuff really doesn't factor into the story that much it's just gameplay set dressing.
I'm surprised the MC is Korean, I wonder if his character is meant to be an immigrant or a zainichi?
>>2014372 Zainichi most likely.
>>2014372 I thought what the hell, but then remembered something: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%8F%85%E6%B2%BC%E5%85%89%E5%BC%98 Yakuza thought to be 30% Zainichi Koreans and 60% Burakumin. A realistic depiction of a certain ethnicity for once.
>>2014569 >Burakumin >thought to be Didn't the nips have dedicated "yellow pages" (heh) for those up to the 80s or some shit?
This game looks sick, one of the two interesting looking new games from the show (other than Frictional's new game) This Dev sounds sick too, I've never played the Like A Dragon games and there's 20 of them, are they all worth playing ? I recently played Sleeping Dogs and I really liked the concept of these Asian gang drama games. From reading this thread it sounds like the series went a direction this Dev didn't like, so curious to know when it 'falls off' if that's the case.
>>2014962 After actually reading the thread, I found that >>2013495 answers my questions. Many thanks. Looks like the recommended games don't have Denuvo which is cool. Fuck the Sega games with Denuvo. I'll put the series bundle on the list to buy. Judgment games look cool as well l especially since you're a detective so even closer to Sleeping Dogs in that aspect.
>>2014927 Yeah. Apparently parents don't tell their kids if they are so people over there so some people don't even know that they are eta. Though some companies apparently still use those old lists.
>>2014962 >>2014984 You got it, for the most part. Really, we haven't gotten to the point where the series has put out a truly bad game. At this point what would be seen as the worst games I guess would be Yakuza Dead Souls, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, or the Kiwami / Ishin Remakes because the original games are fine as they are, and in all these cases the games just suffer at worst from being clear lower budget releases, that more so exist to put something out between the long wait for the next mainline entries. They're still far from a bad time, if you go in with reasonable expectations that they're not where the real effort was going.
>>2015236 It's also that the newer games have Denuvo in them so that's a no go for me. This month's Humble bundle got a couple good games including The Man Who Erased His Name, which is cool but I got turned off from getting the bundle because it has Denuvo. I shall start with the PS2 games some time next year.

>>2010621 Was "Shindo" Nagoshi's self insert?
So is this Toshihiro basically Kojima if Kojima actually liked making video games?
>>2019083 Seems like it, yes.
>>2019083 >if Kojima actually liked making video games? I think this guy sounds like Kojima but without the ego memes. Kojimmy definitely likes making games, he's been making at least 3 of them simultaneously last year.
>>2012743 How goddamned hard could it be to just make a game that looks like an animated Boris Vallejo painting? I don't necessarily expect it to look a painting come to life, but there's got to be some way to faithfully translate the art style into 3D with lighting tricks, good texture work, and a finely tuned color pallet.
>>2020068 >How goddamned hard could it be to just make a game that looks like an animated Boris Vallejo painting? Easy actually, but, nigger like to pay 2 dollars an hour, while actively making you work like a save for 14 hours 7 days a week, so, nobody in their sane mind, with the actual talent, work in the game industry because its nearly only one step above the slave factory work industry
>>2020068 >>2020105 That, and the most talented people aren't even hired. It's a clique shit industry filled with hyper leftists that refuse to hire anyone outside of their comfort zone. My theory is that the reboot was originally made by a western developer but was canned later down the line, or so I hope.
