In case of emergency Anonymous 05/13/2020 (Wed) 07:06:11 No. 22696

I'm running out of Bump pics, this is an emergency
>>22697 Good afternoon, anon!
(305.28 KB 2048x2048 1587930494163.jpg)

fast
(192.30 KB 408x292 rouge_sigh.png)

Let's hope this will finally be the place that can unironically be called a bunker.
>>22700 One can only hope. In the meantime: Better OST, Sonic Adventure 1 or 2?
(2.24 MB 1948x2153 1430836853061.png)

>>22699 That's a nice render. 3D renders can be a treat.
(3.60 MB 640x480 Pumpkin Hill Spooky.webm)

>>22701 Aside from Open Your Heart, Adventure 1's soundtrack is pretty forgettable. Adventure 2 has Live and Learn, City Escape, Pumpkin Hill, and probably the most iconic character themes in the entire series.
>>22703 >Adventure 1's soundtrack is pretty forgettable WRONG
>>22703 >Adventure 1's soundtrack is pretty forgettable I dunno, anon. I'll give you some of the level & character themes in SA2 being the most iconic, but I think we'd be remiss to ignore how good tracks like Red Mountain, Lazy Days & the OG superior version of It Doesn't Matter, from SA1
>>22703 All the character themes are much better in Adventure 1 except for Eggman, which almost doesn't count since he wasn't playable in that game. Tails' and Knuckles' themes are great in Adventure 1 but are just ruined versions in Adventure 2. I do kind of like Sonic's Adventure 2 theme, but idk if I like it more than his Adventure 1 theme. I think the level themes in in both are generally pretty memorable. Adventure 2 has more vocal level themes, which are of course very memorable, but at least a few others are still exceptional, like Metal Harbor, but Adventure 1 has a lot of great ones too. Though I suppose a few of those are reused from 3D Blast or other games and you might not count them for that reason.
>>22706 Maybe it's just me, but I think Metal Harbor doesn't get enough love as a level theme. That shit is so addictive everytime I go back to the SA2 stage songs & it may rank kinda high up in terms of my favorite level themes.
>>22707 I think you haven't been looking around enough, Metal Harbor is always a go to song every time Adventure tunes are played, to the point I started noticing it was really popular. I think it's a good song but not enough to warrant that much popularity, I was always surprised it got so popular.
So are all the banners back? Any way to check?
>>22708 It's kinda repetitive, isn't it? It sounds cool but after it loops three times it gets boring. I guess it isn't as noticeable considering the level itself has two different themes.

(164.65 KB 430x765 8m banners.png)

>>22709 I don't think it can be checked outside of the board's admin panel, but here's the current list. Only the /fast/ ones are currently loaded, and not those with the 8kun or 8chan branding given the different logos. Maybe the 8chan ones could be edited later down the line given that the logo isn't that different.
(2.59 KB 140x50 deleted.png)

Also testing custom spoiler image. Much unfortunately I don't think there's an option for a custom "deleted image" image, which is a shame because I like the one we have over at 8kun a lot.
>>22714 Ah, well. You win some, you lose some. Digging the windows 95 theme.
(82.03 KB 600x567 disgust.jpg)

I played my first Sonic game last month and it was the shittiest thing I've ever played. Sonic Forces. You niggers are autistic
>>22716 Well anon, that's honestly a terrible way to be introduced into the franchise. I suggest you play Generations, Adventure or Sonic 3&K instead.
(163.91 KB 792x426 r.png)

>>22716 >all the games are bad because one game is bad
(16.45 KB 319x319 amylol.jpg)

>>22716 I'd write you off as someone looking for replies but you also chose Sonic Forces as your intro to the series. So have this smug Amy instead
(229.98 KB 700x812 the reversal.png)

>>22719 It's true I was baiting as I know that SF is hated by Sonic fans, but it still was the first game I played. I did play a demo on the Dreamcast that was on a beach or something and was pretty cool, but I don't know what it's called
>>22720 You almost got me, anon. The demo you played on the Dreamcast is probably Sonic Adventure, which is the first actual 3D game in the series that wasn't a spinoff. I'd recommend it, but only if you played the original Dreamcast version, or the Steam release of Adventure DX with the BetterSADX mod in it, since the other ports of the game are notorious for being massive downgrades of the original.
(103.00 KB 920x691 sonic1.jpg)

(1.24 MB 1080x884 sonic2.png)

>>22721 >Sonic Adventure Yeah, that looks like it. Forgot about the killer whale
>>22722 Yup, that's it! IIRC, the game is currently pretty cheap on Steam so it's easy to play with BetterSADX on the Workshop. Or you can use a Dreamcast emulator
(15.29 MB 640x480 emeraldcoast.webm)

>>22722 Yeah, Emerald Coast. Have a potato quality webm. Play more Sonic Games.
>>22716 There are three "eras" of Sonic games, and they all have different gameplay. That's not counting all the spinoffs. There are the "Classic" 2D games. I'd recommend Sonic Mania, which is actually new but made to be like the old ones, and does it even better than they did. Otherwise, try Sonic 3 & Knuckles or maybe Sonic CD. Some people will say Sonic 2 is the best, but if you're a filthy newfag casual, you'll probably want the more modern features of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. There's the Dreamcast/Adventure era. The earlier 3D games. Try Sonic Adventure and if it doesn't work for you then try Sonic Adventure 2. 2 is less story and adventure focused and more of a score attack thing. Some might like that better, some might like the first one better. If you don't like either, then don't bother with the other games from this era, because they're way worse. Then there's "Modern Sonic." The last 12 years of 3D games. Pretty much everybody agrees Sonic Generations is the best one. If you don't like it, you probably won't like the others.
>>22725 >Generations and such is Modern Sonic Technically, Adventure-era is "Modern Sonic", it's just no longer the most modern. Current era is "Boost" where you literally hold a button to go fast and just kill anything in your way. Definitely recommend Mania/3&K and Adventure 1/2 as well. If you enjoy both Adventures then Heroes isn't quite the same but it's better than '06. After that, abandon hope.
>>22725 Pretty good guide. Although I'd recommend Sonic 2 & Sonic 3/K first since it'd make for easier appreciation of what Sonic Mania achieves, imo. Also when it comes to Modern/Boost Sonic, the two titles I'd recommend the most would be Sonic Generations & Sonic Unleashed. Barring the fact that the game had a alternative gameplay style that was more beat-em-up platformer than traditional Boost Sonic, the daytime stages in that game is usually ranked pretty high by a lot of Boost fans. Although if the nighttime stages aren't your thing, I'd at least recommend Generations' Unleashed Project mod.
>>22726 I will never accept Adventure - '06 Sonic being the same as Boost Sonic, but I will accept that "Modern Sonic" is actually used as an official name that refers to post-Unleashed Sonic. Even Generations treats the Adventure era as its own section of the game. But yeah, I guess it doesn't have an official name, and a lot of people call it "Modern Sonic." >>22727 I personally like Unleashed better, but I understand that most don't, and for a new person, Generations doesn't have the things that turned off so many people. It has all the things to appeal to casuals.
>>22728 >I will never accept Adventure - '06 Sonic being the same as Boost Sonic I feel like it should be pointed out sonic didn't "shift gears" into a new era of sorts until colors, unleashed is very blatantly still attached to adventure era stuff. Though i suppose you can place that like adventure vs classic; while adventure 2 pretends wasn't adventure 1s goal its very blatant from the game itself. But adventure-06 certainly didn't lack gimmick games like heroes so is unleashed just a gimmick? Or was it really the start of a methodology it lacks a lot of the features of.

>>22703 >Adventure 1's soundtrack is pretty forgettable. [Blasts you in electronica jazz fusion] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gK7dszd_j1c >>22720 What a funny way to start off the series. If only they had committed to fully realizing their potential and had expanded on the gameplay Forces was based on instead of watering it down either due to time constraints or consciously pursuing their "boost like a maniac" philosophy which was at odds with the setting of the game. That reminds me, guess which duo is coming to 8chanmania this Sunday? >>>/vg/364 With fighters like Solaire, Chip Hazard, Big Bill Hell, Osama Bin Laden and "Sir Reginald Brownpil", it's likely going to be one chaotic show.

>>22725 >>22726 I also am probably not going to play Sonic, but I wanted to say something since a few of you wrote some informational observations. Maybe one day, but probably not this year. And it would likely be Adventure 1/DX >>22730 The only thing I liked about Forces was Liam O'Brien voicing Infinite
>>22735 Well if you ever get around to playing it anon, I'd hope you enjoy it!
>>22729 Unleashed is certainly more like the Adventure era than the games after it, but obviously it started the new style of gameplay, and it is also the first main game in the series to really have nothing directly to do with any previous entries. Tonally, it's lighter than all previous entries as well, even if not as light as the games after it. It still has more of a story than after it, but less than before it. It's a transition, at the very least, but given that the new gameplay starts here, and it's the first to have a story doesn't require you to play any previous entries to fully understand it, I'm comfortable placing it firmly in the "Modern" camp. Now if I want to complain, then I'll point out that Generations puts '06 in the "Modern" era, and that's fucking bullshit. The Werehog might feel like a Heroes/Shadow style gimmick a bit, but in retrospect, it's much more of a Classic Sonic style gimmick. A second gameplay style that is still technically Sonic, because they wanted to cater to "fans" complaining about too many playable characters, but did it only by a technicality. It almost feels spiteful. Like how the same "fans" were complaining about how "Classic Sonic never had a story!" so they made Sonic's story in '06 literally be about saving a princess over and over again, like Mario.
(957.52 KB 1000x1467 3DcC8Rs.png)

>>22735 Up to you, but you're the one that came to post on a Sonic board. We all hate Forces, too, though. That being said, I don't think you're allowed to trash the series until you give 3&Knuckles or Mania a shot. They're a genuine treat that sit somewhere between casual and old school and they really scratch an itch for us Sonicfags, anyways
>>22737 Base gameplay aside unleashed very much pulled from 06s scraps and is built from the same era as it. The storybook games show the same treatment even. And 06 is a very adventure game even if it is a total botch job. Its certainly showing its era a bit with only sonic but it certainly is not the aggressive showing that came after it. Unleashed's tone is pretty in line with adventure 1 or heroes anyway. I'd say it matches the era perfectly fine. Adventure era wasn't just convolution and edge the whole way through. I'd argue between the two categories, from a structural standpoint it ends up leaning on adventure more than colors generic blocky platforming and plot so mediocre that it may as well not exist. It actually only shares boost; a mechanic colors doesn't exactly even use particularly besides to show off. Its certainly the start, but is it distinct enough to count as separate from the previous era really. The storybook games show the same story of a different treatment than colors.
>>22739 Well Secret Rings was pretty much made almost as a Wii equivalent to '06, so yeah, that and its direct sequel still feel like Adventure-era, though spinoffs of the Adventure era. '06 is definitely an Adventure era game, and I think it's ridiculous that Generations puts it in the "Modern" era, but then I think that's just so each section can have three games each. Unleashed's tone is a bit lighter than Adventure and its era, and clearly deliberately so. Though you have a point that Heroes did the same thing. But in this case, the trend continued, so it's the beginning of the trend. Plus, I think it's significant that it's the first main game in practically the entire series that doesn't build off of previous plot points at all. Obviously, this is another major trend that would continue with Modern Sonic. Except for Wisps returning over and over again.
>>22740 >But in this case, the trend continued, Well technically black knight was in-between unleashed and colors for what its worth. Honestly the timing of the third story book game makes me wonder if it was scrapped because of the change in sonics writing; can't really see a storybook game exactly working with colors writing. Wisp spam seems more related to how colors was what they based the series on after, people liked it at the time for whatever reason so they stuck with it.

>>22763 I don't really know any of those names but it sure doesn't sound look a good sign. Even before the pandemic I remember hearing rumors of IDW being in financial trouble, I guess we'll have to wait and see what else they do outside of delaying comic books.

>>22770 It's not like Sega ever produces anything good for anniversaries anyways. If they don't announce a sequel to Mania soon I'm just checking back out until they do.
>>22771 >It's not like Sega ever produces anything good for anniversaries anyways.
>>22772 Was almost ten years ago and it was mediocre. Literally only notable for being blatant nostalgia-baiting with some updated music that managed to be slightly less garbage than all the other boost games before or since.
>>22772 >10th anniversary: Sonic Adventure 2 >15th anniversary: Sonic 2006 >20th anniversary: Sonic Generations >25th anniversary: Sonic Forces/Sonic Mania Going by this pattern, SEGA drops a good anniversary title every 10 years, so who knows we might get lucky
>>22773 I actually agree, its a Sonic 4 Ep 2 of boost; mediocrity that sparkled for people because it had actual trash right next to it. Its immensely over-hyped for what it is.
>>22775 Tbh, I enjoyed Generations, at least the Modern stages.
>>22776 And i liked sonic and the black knight, doesn't mean its extortionary. Generations is still the only notable boost game from an actual gameplay standpoint and while that certainly gives it a niche; its the only boost game where they decided maybe sonic should actually do some of that platforming stuff with his main gimmick. However its a very average platformer with not much going for it besides nostalgia bait outside of this small tidbit, generations is the type of game the second anything surpasses it it would have been considered a stepping stone. It lacks much of an identity due to its gimmick, its story may as well not exist like most modern sonic stuff and of course; >at least the Modern stages Classic is still a decent portion of generations and it is actively crap.
>>22777 >extortionary Yeah i don't know how i managed that, i should really check what i'm typing there. Obviously its meant to be extraordinary.
>>22777 >Generations is still the only notable boost game from an actual gameplay standpoint Hmmm, I dunno about that anon. I think the daytime stages in Unleashed actually had a little bit more going for it than Gens in that regard. Although I do agree on the point about the Classic stages
>>22779 Unleashed is a game that is actively playing to its strengths in the day time stages, so i'd be inclined to agree though the issue is that unleashed is a very bland game due to that technically. Its not something that can exactly go anywhere, playing boost straight means you can do very little with your stages; theres an extra reason they bulked out their game with the werehog besides budget. Gens boost is certainly not a well crafted experience mostly, kinda smashed together to actually get platforming in there. However in the end both are basically just padding out boost, unleashed just has the class to leave its boost sections not have interruptions also directly in those sections. Actually on a note on boost, while i haven't played the thing in ages i remember secret rings sticking out to me especially after having played it. I think it actually made the other boost games stick out badly in their flaws, i feel like from a level design standpoint i actually prefer secret rings others even if the game is too clunky to actually feel better to play enjoyably. I don't think boost is a good thing to continue as one of the main brands of sonic mind that, its still a pretty poor gameplay after awhile; there's a reason 06 toned down its mach speed sections.even if they forgot to change it when they reverted engines

I can't think of a Sega franchise big enough that it's news are a huge impact on the game industry, not even Sonic

Tikal coming to Forces Speed Battle!
>>22788 That's a little unexpected. >>22787 And this whole thing with the movie has been a doozy. I wonder if any of the Hollywood execs ever saw the CD, Adventure, and Unleashed intros to get a general feel for Sonic after Robicheaux left the building. Just what was that film going to be like before changing hands?
>>22789 The movie after Van's departure but before the first trailer dropped seemed like it was heading the same direction the Smurfs movie went, tbh. IIRC it was mentioned that Paramount knew fans weren't gonna like the design of Movie!Sonic, but felt like the "general public" was gonna like it. The big thing for me is what the film was gonna be like after Van left under Sony Pictures. There's not a lot of information on what the movie was gonna be like, outside of the old poster of Sonic's movie design by that point.
