A change of pace - also, Meta Thread /fit/izen 08/17/2023 (Thu) 07:56:46 Id: ad1192 No. 118 [Reply] >>950
Hey, /fit/izens of 8chan! I have recently been reassigned this board after the previous owner left, I thank him and all the anons who have posted here previously kindly for their time and effortposts. Use this thread as a general Meta Thread for the board as a whole. Additionally, these are the rules that I will be enforcing: 0. Global Rules are enforced by default 1. No Spamming 2. No CP or suggestive pictures of minors that can be reliably defined as "real children" 3. No threats of violence towards living people 4. No doxing of anyone 5. Please, limit off-topic discussions to the Protein Shake Bar thread. I won't go after you for not being on topic 24/7, but I will warn you if a thread is being slid too far into one direction or other (i.e. political arguments derailing meaningful Fitness discussions) 6. I have yet to decide if I want the board to be SFW or not, nonetheless you can post any kind of material you want so long as you spoiler full nudity, guro and grave injuries. That being said, please, have fun using the board!

Maybe 4chan going down is just what this board needs to stir some activity. I miss the real 8chan. I used to use /fit/ there and /tech/ a lot, and I was disappointed when it went down. Nothing's been the same since tbqh

Old time strongmen, physical culturists and the light dumbbell system /fit/izen 10/28/2023 (Sat) 08:32:49 Id: a92fe5 No. 215 [Reply] >>223>>994
Having just finished finished a book on the old 5 pound dumbbell system, and beginning to read some of the old literature such as Strength, and How to Obtain It and Muscle Control, I am inspired to create a thread on the old timers. These guys were amazing and made their achievements without steroids or modern supplements.

>>215 (OP) I got injured during a time my strength gains were rising at their fastest rate yet. Outside my youth even but I was lifting heavy almost exclusively. Eventually, a back injury occurred in the middle of a squat set. I was able to finish the rep I was on despite it but the back pain that followed for the following couple of months was so intense I'd get out of bed to get some water to drink, walk back to bed, and literally would feel tired from all the pain felt. I haven't read anything here but recently I started, for the first time ever I might add, a light weight workout routine. Where I do sets slow and steady, for max reps, or to even do movements that would break me with heavier weights. Doing this for three weeks I went back to some heavy weights. Not only did it feel easier to pump out 10 on heavier dumb bells, but it also felt less painful, for a lack of better words. Like my muscle was more full. I don't know how to explain it. Anyways, I found out it takes about 40 days before newly acquired maxes start going down for me but with how the light weights have been changing me, I feel like it's making my body more prepared for the strength gains I acquire. You know how some dudes cycle test? I'm thinking the trick to natty weight lifting is to cycle heavy weights. Idk, maybe just doing 100 rep sets of 5lb dumbells and then jumping up to something heavier to do only 10 times just seems to make it easier to do those ten despite being much heavier.
>>223 That's pretty interesting. A lot of these old time strongmen used to only lift heavy during their shows apparently, their performances were their training. Something similar to your situation happened with the author of "the lost secret" posted earlier, he broke his elbow I believe and didn't want to put too much stress on it right after it healed, so he thought he'd experiment with this old system. He doesn't claim to fully understand how the system works but has a couple theories. I posted the book through catbox because it's an epub, which I don't think will upload here, but I recommend it. There is a bit more to it than meets the eye.

>>215 (OP) I can agree with the idea of high reps. It really does work if you are committed : I have had higher strength gains from high amount of reps + low weight or high amount of reps and bodyweight (think calisthenics) I know because I also use dynamic progressive overload in all of my workouts. And I feel progress week to week, if not month to month. >per example I lift 8kg Dumbbell weight and manage 50 reps. Increase to 51 next week, vice versa so on and so forth until I reach 100 reps >AND THEN I increase the weight to 10kg and I can easily manage 50 reps. Do the process again and increase weight once at 100 reps. 100 reps seems to be the golden point IF THEY ARE CLEAN PROPER FUCKING REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Calisthenics /fit/izen 10/19/2020 (Mon) 12:39:10 Id: 1fc2f9 No. 38 [Reply]
Is it possible to obtain a strong build with merely calisthenics. I've been doing it a year or two and I've gotten a lot buffer and lost a lot of weight, I used to weigh over 14 stone now I'm in the 10 stone region. What I want to know is if I can build my muscles using just calisthenics so I don't have to use any money on buying impractical weights and not waste any money going to the gym. Better to use just your body than things that are completely unnatural imo.

Oldfag with something to share /fit/izen 04/11/2025 (Fri) 11:46:20 Id: 7425e7 No. 769 [Reply] >>968>>969
Hello /fit/ of 8chan, this would have originally been posted in 4chan but unfortunately the site has gone to shit and I am unable to post there, if anyone would like to, I'd be happy for you to repost this there. A little about me: I'm an oldfag (technically a newfag) from 2008 who was mainly an /a/ and /g/ browser with a bit of /n/ and later, /new/, basically I was fat, weak and had nothing to do. Eventually around 2015~ I decided to check out /fit/ and I thought "Wow, this is actually epic" and put my heart and soul (but mainly my body) into shitposting, exercising, researching and making gains. I was a new man from there and I felt that I should at least give back something to those who made me a better person, so here is my ultimate Calisthenics routine, all of my experience, knowledge and effort poured into one small .txt file. About the program: This was originally just made for a friend who was getting into calisthenics and was willing to push as hard as he needed to so some things may seem a bit extreme or overkill. There are Youtube links to examples of the movements and some explanations where Youtube links could not be found, overall, I hope you learned or gained something from it and if you didn't, thanks for giving it a shot, that's all we can do sometimes. We're all gonna make it brahs - K

>>944 Huh? >>952 Either way uses both, elbows flared out: targets more of the back. Elbows in: targets more of the chest.

Want to start lifting weights /fit/izen 09/10/2023 (Sun) 07:35:26 Id: d39e87 No. 170 [Reply] >>951
I have a Weiider machine from baaaaack in the day that I used to use. But then I nearly killed a nigger and went to prison instead of university. Long story but it was a must. In prison there were no weights or anything really so I just did pushups and this and that using my own body weight (forgot the name for that) pretty much so I wouldn't become sick. Can I make gains with this thing? I'm seeking good health not any great appearance. Or do I need free weights? If so, what should I buy? I was thinking I'd like a chin up bar. Alright, thank you.
>>170 (OP) >can I make gains by exercising? No. Only with premium gym subscription can you make gains.
Yes, using the weight machine is still exercise. A pullup bar is still a good idea to get anyway, pullups are basically the best back exercise you can do.
