>>1040139 Half Life 2 has been free through piracy for over a decade.
>>1040237 So is your ass
Gather around the campfire.
>>1040154 What took them so long to add workshop support for half life?
>>1040237 you pirates are like vegans, you can't help yourself but mention you are one
>>1040266 i use tpb btw
>>1040237 >>1040266 Anon, he could mean "free" from DRM. Which is true if you play HL2 on a console as opposed to a computer.
>>1040263 fully modelled
>>1040261 Made a clan on an old ass forum with a bunch of people all based around silly gmod vids like this one, managed to meet one of them in person after 17 years of knowing him :>
Marphitimus is a goddamned madlad

>>1040165 There will never be a HL3. Gabe's gonna pull an Al Lowe and just skip HL3 and go right into HL4.
I do not understand valve. They have put so much money into proton and the steam deck and making linux gaming nearly seamless for normalfags, and yet they fucked linux users out of playing source games, which they spent so much time making run natively on linux, with their anticheat. Players have had trouble with CS:GO for over a year because of it, now TF2 has had the same issue since the x64 update. What the fuck, valve? I just want to play some fucking video games.
>>1040430 I can only hope theyre in the process of building a new anticheat system that doesn't suck shit through a straw
(29.07 KB 470x470 laughing bill.jpg)

>>1040430 >linux gaming >nearly seamless for normalfags
>>1040434 I doubt it. It has been at LEAST a year of users getting disconnected from matches in csgo because VAC just fails to work. It has been 7 months since valve introduced the problem to tf2.

>half life 2 deathmatch is finally active >some guy micspamming new wave music fuck yeah this is the source engine i know
>>1040263 Would be possible to port Lambda Fortress?
The end of the documentary had a lot of talk from Gaben and others about needing to innovate with Half Life. They even hinted that there is finally opportunity for more innovation within the industry now. The ending words from Gaben are probably most blatant: >I think that half life represents a tool we have and promises we made to customers to capitalize on innovation and opportunities to build game experiences that haven't been involved previously. And I think that there are no shortage of opportunities facing us as an industry right now. What the hell are they talking about? Innovations we've seen since HL2 thus far: >VR Valve already made HL Alyx >RTX, up-scaling, raytracing Nvidia gimmicks that are nothing but window dressing at the end of the day >AI for non graphics related elements, like enemy behavior or reactive world. It does not looks like we're there yet. Static image and text generation are still giant power hogs. >Better physics Valve did that already with smoke in CS2 but that's not enough of a leap to build a game around. AAA sunk so far that a new HL game would be innovative by simply: >working on release >being optimized >not being a live service game or requiring a constant internet connection >having a multiplier that allows for community hosted servers >having competent writing and art direction >not having a day 1 DLC and other DLCs that are simply cut content used to sell season passes
>>1040520 I'd like to note that Valve has been working on what is believed to be HL3 since just before Alyx released. The codebase is simply called HLX, and a VA accidentally leaked the project's codename as White Sands.
>>1040361 >No Bear Party : Adventure That video sucked.
>>1040279 >Which is true if you play HL2 on a console as opposed to a computer. Nah, consoles that run HL2 are all DRMed to hell and back inb4 it doesn't count because it doesn't bother (you), and the PC version for some reason has been DRM free for about a decade.
>>1040521 They have. There were rumors and signs of projects related to HL, on and off, for decade and a half now. Half Life Alyx is the only one that was completed. The most recent datamined info, the voice actor's reveal, and things said in the documentary make a new, full HL game sound closer than it has been in a decade or so. >>1040520 I was thinking about other innovations and how HL1 primarily innovated in game play and presentation. Perhaps that's where HL3 will go. When it comes to gameplay, only innovations we have seen since HL2 were: >motion controls They ultimately turned out to be a gimmick with niche applications >Parkour-style movement and wall running A lot of games incorporate it these days, to the point it's often expected in some FPS subgenres >Player-built and destructible structures It's been done by many different titles in different genres by now. I don't see Valve trying to use it in a HL game One tech innovation I forgot about earlier is cloud gaming. It's still limited and I hope that Valve won't try to push for it. If Google Stadia's failure, Nvidia's scaling back, Amazon's caution, and Microsoft odd decisions with regards to game pass are anything to go by, cloud gaming might not be feasible for mass market adoption just yet.
>>1040520 >>1040521 >>1040611 Honestly, I'm so jaded at this point that these companies can fuck off if they're wasting everyone's time trying to figure out what new little gimmick they can shove into their games instead of...well, developing a fun video game. I don't care about the technology or them doing something "new" at this point, especially since it seems like all it accomplished in practice is either a regression of what we had before or managing to "barely" equate to what we have but it's under a different name. If they really want to be "innovate", how about they look at the technology that already exists, and use that to develop a fun and entertaining video game. You know, "show" people how this technology is "suppose" to be used.
>>1040614 Making a mostly linear level based shooter with some scripted elements honestly would be innovative in the current climate.

I just want to see the fucking beta enemies in a mainline entry. They were almost going to include a bunch of beta content in Alyx but scrapped it. Please, I don't care about muh innovation for 3, I just want to see all the great ideas they shelved. HL2 is so barren on enemies and weapons, a majority of the game's arsenal got cut and much of what remains feels so underwhelming.

(446.41 KB 700x500 factory.jpg)

(9.68 KB 632x426 Leak_houndeye_mdl_preview.jpg)

The Immolator was going to be a pickup from the Cremator, these weird semi-organic creatures created in factories. Both it and its corresponding enemy were cut. So much was cut. Did you know HL2 was meant to have houndeyes? We even have their models. The doc barely touches on how much they gutted from the 2000-2002 builds of the game. I hope they follow through with the original plans in Alyx and re-introduce at least some of this material.
>>1040520 If Alyx was any indication, does this just mean their next Half Life game will merely be a glorified tech demo built around a single gimmick?

Something mildly amusing. There are so many scrapped Half-Life games that Wikipedia created an entire article about the phenomenon. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreleased_Half-Life_games
>>1041501 >half life 3 was going to be partially proc-gen I'm honestly interested in what that would have felt like. How much freshness could they get away with while retaining a structured story with balanced gameplay beats? Speaking of that interview where Gabe said "we weren't able to justify episode 3 if we weren't pushing things forward," why not just take that angle? That would be, if not "successful," at least extremely fascinating. Proc-gen alone doesn't work at all. Full structure obviously works. So how far can the mix be pushed?

>>1040636 Not selling personal data would be a good start, unlike what Soyny did a muslim who was committed to 100% every game only for his PISS account to get shitcanned.
