Like many of those comments say, the obvious influence of DEI is part of what makes her design so irritating. You can see it in the NPCs, too. There are a
ton of brown or black NPCs, and it's not like most of them are implied to be foreign tourists either. Despite taking place in the pokemon equivalent of Paris, there is no attempt to make the population look French. It would be interesting if someone did a count, because I wouldn't be surprised if one discovered that almost half of the NPCs are nonwhite. Chances are very high that someone at GF made it a requirement that a certain number of not only NPCs, but important characters, are dark skinned, whether it looks good or makes sense or not.
But DEI aside, her skin really is too dark. The light whites and pastels of her clothing contrast her skin tone too much and it simply looks weird. The Japanese joke about black paint but it really does look like they took a white woman and changed the color values of her skin so she was black instead. If she had african features, such as a different shaped nose and larger lips, it wouldn't look as awkward even with her light purple hair and dress. They've kind of done it before, Lenora has some sort of african features (hair and lips) and her design is fine. But GF didn't put that much effort into any of the player models and just used basic anime features for everyone. So it is a visual and aesthetic problem as much as it is an ESG/DEI problem.
And her personality really is shit, which makes it even worse. She is the typical rich anime girl who has this calm, positive, and refined air to her, but is clearly spoiled to some degree as she always makes sure she gets what she wants. She can quietly sneak up on you, unnoticed, and has the potential to watch your every move, according to her. You expect to see her break a little at some point, maybe after you destroy her in battle, but no. It never happens. She literally just smiles and claps, no anger or shaken emotions. There is potential, even for a boring, predictable character but GF doesn't even give her that. She isn't funny or endearing, she just made me angry, I rushed through her tournament thing just to beat her. And even after she messes with the player, your only option before the battle begins is to compliment her. Why didn't they take some inspiration from the Battle Chatelaines instead?
