Video game genres that you dislike and why. Anonymous 04/18/2025 (Fri) 21:38:39 Id: fa8565 No. 1137438
I dislike soulsbourne games because the core aspect of the game actually isn't even difficult, it's just tedium that extends the games run time. For example if I die to a boss or mob and the nearest bonfire I last used was 100 meters away I have to trek the distance all the way back to get my experience and/or kill the enemy that last killed me. What did I learn while treking those 100 meters? More importantly what makes running that far actually difficult? Nothing. You are just being punished with time wasting tedium and going against enemies you had no problem dispatching up to that point. I understand wanting to have a game that is difficult but the core aspect of this genre just isn't. I also don't see the point of simulators. Specifically games like the sims. I don't see the appeal of watching your character do things instead of actually doing them.
>>1322998 I actually agree with you, Elden Ring is a walking simulator due to the maps being fuckhueg and the devs even admit it because they gave you a horse so it can also walk.
>>1317546 No, it's that I'm tired of games being designed for the purpose of being ragebait. This goes for Getting Over It, Kaizo Mario World, and others in that same style. They're made to be frustrating, which if a person grinds to beat it they're fucking retarded because they wasted time through brute force.
Any game that is overcomplicated/overbloated. Stellaris used to be good but now it's just a menu simulator with too much shit you feel you have to do so you pause the game every 5 seconds.
Sports games are an obvious one for me. Maybe old roleplaying games like BG or Planescape, but I could give them another go and see if they click with me.
>>1138834 TLDR You're a retarded who got fucked by your mistakes, got mad at it and cries like a bitch. Ok.
I have for my entire life never understood the appeal of the sports genre, but ultimately I think that's more to do with the fact that almost every game is an iterative, lazy, poorly-optimized cash grab that profits off of brand recognition and FOMO despite offering nothing new in terms of complexity or game design. Sort of the same criticisms I'd give for remasters since they suffer from nearly all the same problems. Some games do attempt innovation or something new like NFL Street (shoutout to anyone who remembers that game) or Mario Strikers/Mario Golf. Ultimately most people who buy sports games are niggers and spics who want to pretend they're the athletes in the game and don't give a fuck about the actual game itself because they're all subhuman retards who'll spend their money for the game industry equivalent of a company passing gas.
>>1352904 That's... That's not at all the same. What are you, retarded? Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro ≠ Madden, NBA, FIFA
>>1137438 >What did I learn while treking those 100 meters? You should think up a better strategy against the enemy or trap that killed you. Elden Ring put checkpoints outside most boss fights and players bashed their head against the wall for hours, hoping it would work the next time. I would like to see bosses getting permanent buffs every time they kill you, so dying 100 times in 30 minutes would actually have consequences.
>>1137438 Anything with QTEs Turn-based JRPGs, indie side scrollers - atrocious combat RTS - APM makes the games too hectic to enjoy unless you play at your own pace on too easy to enjoy (again) difficulty
The entirety of the Soulsborne gameplay is just dressing to the inability of canceling animations. They literally made a genre out of an archaic technical limitation that everyone deemed surpassed forever when Devil May Cry came out. Look gaymers, we get it that you never had a dad and all this punishment feels like being educated by a harsh one. But we used to play games for fun. Challenge and fun are supposed to be balanced, it doesn't simply get more fun the more cumbersome and gratuituous the fail condition becomes. And don't pretend that you don't drop indie games like turds, when they attempt to copy this exact same style, simply because there's no street cred in playing those. You want a dad, and you want others to know you have one.
>>1378012 You would literally kill yourself, if you spent a month dieing over and over in the next Elden Ring, but there was no internet to tell anybody.
>>1378173 Lol. I have to agree. I played the first Dark Souls to see what the hype was about, and while the world and presentation are certainly praiseworthy, the gameplay did not resonate with me at all. Same with the Monster Hunter franchise for similar reasons. You're bound to get fucked the first time you fight anything because each action makes you a sitting duck and bosses often have quick, unpredictable attacks much faster than yours. Instead of being able to attack and respond to attacks in the spur of the moment, you have to memorize the boss's behavior and moveset to know when not to attack. Which inevitably devolves into walking circles around the boss, waiting for him to use that one flashy attack that leaves him wide open, sneaking 1-2 slashes in, then dodge rolling away and repeating a dozen times. That kind of slow-paced waiting game combat is just not fun to me.
>>1384328 >>1378173 B-but those enemies are too big to have cancelling animations never mind that you can parry them!
Fighting games. I'm very accustomed to the keyboard because I played my whole life with that, so I barely can execute techniques and have to learn those put me off.

racing and (to a lesser extent) fighting games. they trigger an insane need for competition in me and if i lose i get frustrated. absolutely hate whenever racing sections are present in games and you need to do them

>>1388381 Racing in GTAO is fucking gay lol. The niggers always pick circuits with the least amount of turns and whoever has the highest top speed pretty much will win by default and that's if you have catchup off which you should because catchup is nothing but a crutch for shitty drivers, tracks with barely any turns being an exception to the rule
(1.48 MB 1920x943 fun.png)

>>1389643 when i played on the x360 pretty much all the races hosted were those crazy custom courses that took place in the sky and you had to drive along containers, loops, etc. i thought those were fun, not because of the racing aspect, but the fact that it turned into a clusterfuck of an entire server trying to push each other off the edge. zentorno and t20 were kings
>>1389835 Consider yourself lucky because all niggers on pc wanted to do was nascar ovals and ground circuits with no corners to them. But judging by that pic, that is also a nascar oval with it's own flavor of autism. Catchup should not be a thing in racing games because it enables shitty behavior like purposefully staying behind and blasting past everyone on the final lap and crashing into people. You should not receive an advantage for being worse at a video game
GTAO catchup is definitely the worst too. Not only does it make other cars behind you faster, it also SLOWS your own car down if your in the lead. Absolute cancer
>>1389877 I remember my favorite race was some bikes only race some guy put up that took you through that swamp near the military base. Was good shit.
>>1389877 >judging by that pic that is also a nascar oval with it's own flavor of autism might be, just ripped it off a video. i dont have any footage of the races i did. i dont remember any of them being nascar ovals though, they always had some variety that made you hold something other than W, and always ended in a point different than where you started out (usually a big jump to the finish line) >catchup sounds like a turbo dogshit mechanic
>>1389928 Rubberbanding is a turbo dogshit mechanic that was turned up to 11 in gta online racing
>>1323410 >i play video games to get away from the grind of every day at work Lmfao gtfo failed normalfaggot
>>1323659 >Clunky controls in a modern title Do you mean Classicvania "clunky" or Bubsy 3D clunky?
what: souls-like why: gay shit instead: anything else, really what: bullet-hell why: gay shit instead: shoot-em ups (arcade classics and cave titles in general) what: jump&run, metroidvania why: belongs on consoles instead: blööd, quake, doom, duke nukem what: card games why: because instead: not card game what: monster hunter, pokemon, capcom garbage why: gay and fagot instead: anything else! that's for starters.
This whole thread reads like one of those infomercials where people can't do the most basic tasks and need some special gadget to get around their own retardation. >w-what?! I have to run back to the boss? >how am I supposed to beat this without the most optimal setup and farming for 200 hours? This isn't even hard! >the dialogue skipped when I pressed the skip button? What the FUCK dude!? you cannot convince me this isn't DSP posting from 30 IPs
>>1344832 I was going to say something along these lines. I've come to hate with a passions these mouse-heavy types of games where all you ever do is navigate through menus inside menus inside more menus. In stellaris it's even more frustrating because the game actively tries(or tried, I haven't played since they added the leaders dlc) to be as stale as possible, making sure that you'll be doing the same 10 things over and over, your choice of playstyle notwithstanding.
I don't like multiplayer party coop games, or as the zoomers would say, "friendslop"
>>1456321 Agreed, they have a short lifecycle and aren't made to last beyond a few hours. Plus they're fucking miserable if you can't wrangle a team together to play and have to tolerate randoms or going solo.
>>1384328 For this reason whenever I played MHGU I would go greatsword with perks about quickly sheathing/draw bonus damage and would max that fucking damage so the nigger monster would get broken and staggered to hell and back Fuck those cowardly pissant little weak quick weapons, let me break that dinosaur apart like a dollar store plastic figure
>>1456125 Stellaris in 2016-2017 while it did have its menus, wasn't even close to half as bad as it is now. I remember playing that game with fondness when I played it back then. Revisiting it with all these updates since has just ruined the experience for me. I have no idea where it all went wrong but all I know is the game just isn't fun anymore and all the menus ruined it for me.
"Realistic" sports and deckbuilders are probably the only ones I truly dislike.
>>1458789 Inscription was the only deckbuilder I ever liked and that was only during Part 1, which is only like 25% of the game. The majority of sports games are gay. The only sports game I liked would be Blitz the league 2 and that was not realistic.
(7.55 MB 640x360 SPORTS BEAST.mp4)

>>1138005 >I cannot get how they are still selling at all. Alright, I know some people who play sportsball. The answer is extremely simple. The FIFA people are not gamers. Those games are, in fact, the only games they play. I have met people who openly dislike gaming and gamers, but play sportsball. Think of the biggest douchebro faggot, somebody like >>1243582 who says things like "Wha?? You don't watch NFL, brah? What are you brah, gay?". Now also think about that Chicano guy with 7 siblings who sells fent down the block. They're who play sports games.
>>1459020 That sounds really dumb
(658.21 KB 220x243 CR toast.gif)

>>1459084 Yep! That's the average niggerball fan
