>What was actually wrong with it?
From an oldfag who started STALKER years ago and played builds, I played S2 on day-one release, and I'd rate it as 6.5/10 - good overall experience but has a lot of shortcomings and aneurysm inducing mechanics (most I fixed with mods that were popping in on release), they may be fixed now but I only did one full 90 hours play-throughs and I'm waiting for the DLC to replay it in it's
better state now

The empty open world combined zero simulation and a lot of retarded choices and bad optimization.
The world is very big and there's a lot of great set pieces to explore, but there's no A-Life, and at the beginning the offline simulation was also gone, the game operated on random spawns around you, which were annoying. Every 15 minutes you would have something spawn around you and annoy you, with no warning, no way to spot it beforehand and avoid it, you are forced into an encounter, which should never be a thing. And 90% of time the spawn were behind you, so as long as you kept sprinting you could get out of every encounter. This was the worst part of the game, apparently it is somehow fixed now and everything around you is simulated and not spawned, so you can spot danged and choose if you want to engage or not.
The retarded choices mainly relate to mutants. Every single mutant was made worse to fight from its vanilla counterpart
>Bloodsuckers were made much more fun and dynamic to fight, but they throw one million of them at all times and you and added an unnecessary AoE stun for them - which at the end made you never want to fight them
>Chimeras no longer circle around you like a predator in a cat-and-mouse game, then jump on top of you and maul you in place
>you can no longer jump over Pseudogiants AoE attack, which you could do in all vanilla games
>Burers are now a puzzle fight of pick up all 30 weapons scattered around the place before you can fight them
>and most mutants now knock you over, forcing you into a 4 second cut-scene, as a nail in the coffin
They just made them three times more annoying rather then dangerous to fight. The gunplay was at least upgraded and stalker shootouts are fun. Also they fucked the economy on release and unless you abused a bug to make infinite money, you never had any money for anything.
And bad optimization, the worst part were constant save corruptions, you had to manually move your save file once every hour for safekeeping, or it will corrupt and send you back 3 hours back in time to replay everything. And the absolute plethora of bugs I don't want to detail, but some of them could soft-lock you.

The Zone feels amazing and the story is really good and interesting, which saves the experience a lot.
Artifact hunting is fun, the atmosphere is great
would be better with actual lighting and not lumen garbage, but graphics don't faze me if overall art direction is there, which thankfully is there, anomalies feel great, The Zone just really feels like a Zone, and it's the best Zone we got, just exploring key points of interest brings a lot of joy.
And we have an actual story here. Lots and lots of other oldfags will scream
retcons in your face and fume about lore inconsistencies to previous games,
which is true, but what they did with the story was a good move. All the characters have personalities that make you build relations with them, they have their own motivations, each path you take tells you different secrets to piece the whole story together. It's great to follow and was the main motivation for me to finish the game, story was just great and felt like an actual story compared to the vanilla games that were always lacking in the story department, especially CoP that was all side-quests. Like a lot of faggots will scream that they ruined Scar compared to CS, when here in S2 Scar is the most interesting character to follow and has a lot of back-story, that makes you really like him at the end when you find out everything that happened to him and made him like that.
And I can't comment on any culture wars bullshit since I don't care about that, I only care about the game
