Dispatch Anonymous 05/30/2025 (Fri) 20:01:57 Id: 350702 No. 1419123
Did anybody else try the demo? I liked the occasional Telltale game back in the day, so I was curious about Dispatch when it was announced. The premise of you being a 911 operator for superheroes is good, and I think the cast looked fun. The e-celeb voice cast seemed like a terrible idea though. After playing the demo I'm still on the fence. The actual gameplay of getting a call and sending the best character you have to deal with it seemed good enough. It was very shallow, but I think it can work for a story driven game like this if they do a good job of making your choices matter. The writing is peak millennial slop though. The old nigger said "fuck" about 50 times in the 30 minute demo. Quips galore. I still like the premise, but the writing might make me skip it.
>>1876196 >main character seems oddly competent Its kind of a breath of fresh air. But I genuinely expected a dialogue tree where you could reject shitcanning the bottom-scorers since a competent manager wouldn't want that for their second day on the job. The only person on the team who probably doesn't care for heroism is Coupe. Its why I shitcanned her, but the pointed counterargument is that she's a deadly assassin whose being paid to work for "the good guys." Sonar is genuinely interested in self improvement and from the jobs in game has shown to be a good spokesman for whatever the fuck the SDC wants. He's also got a drug problem and fucks around. If I had a real choice, it'd actually be Prism or, funnily enough, Coupe. Coupe because she sabotaged teammates multiple times (including a unavoidable sabotage with Sonar before the dispatch section starts.) Prism because she also sabotaged the shit out of people during my dispatch calls and threatened punch-up in the middle of a pep-talk meeting. It really was just a piss poor plot point to create drama and setup a villain for later episodes.
>>1911934 Is there any reason, any at all, to think that invisigirl doesn’t have a body count that if measured in kms would be longer than the Union Pacific Railroad?
>>1913373 She didn't cheat on her husband literally 5 minutes after meeting some. If anything, based on her mannerisms, invisigal screams that she is mostly a loner. There were several chances invisigal could have kissed Mechaman yet they haven't even hit first base yet
So Chase is dead. Seems kinda anti-climatic. The dialog between him and Visi made it seem like he knows who she is. Dunno if 'Daughter of Shroud' theory is still alive.

>>1911772 >[spoiler] >slop
(258.04 KB 894x755 JohnOliver.png)

>>1917982 There's nothing wrong with the term slop you stuck up faggot. Slop is a good word for the shit being poured out into the normalfag paypiggies various entertainment troughs these days.
>>1419123 Alright, I've been through all eight episodes and I chose the romance option voiced by Laura Bailey. To be fair, you do see her character's tits a lot in the game. Guess my dick chose that one. Thoughts without that much in spoilers: I liked it. If I had a paycheck, I'd probably buy it. I would still be hesitant on Season 2 but its team proved itself here so I guess we'll see. Choices somewhat mattered. It's less so of choosing immediately what happens and more so of building up points. Do enough good options, you'll get good. There are some parts where the choices really do matter, but they're kind of obvious. (Kissing Blonde Blazer, going to the movies or dinner between BB/Invisigal, etc) I don't consider the romance options real spoilers but the only spoiler is that you do have to choose a romance. One of the heroines is integral to the good ending. Which has my gripe. It won't feel like your choices had a lot of impact if you're coming out with like 4 mostly static endings. But there's enough setup, and probably budget, for them to matter more for season 2, because the last two episodes had a lot of choices that seem to setup for a second season. Shroud was a good villain, there's a lot of discussion in the thread about him, but unfortunately he does drop the ball near the end, but it's not a matter of presentation. I'm not gonna use the spoiler asterisks for entire spoiler section. Just certain words that might pop out. You have free will, faggot, just stop reading. It does look that Invisigal was a spy. It also seems like it was a matter of Shroud both having the tech to predict everyone, and being good with tech. I guess a spy isn't all that important when you can just ask a computer what the chances of something happening. It's also a downgrade for him to just have one fight, one hissy fit tantrum with Dad Mecha Man, before he breaks down and shoots his ass. Might also be that the comics weren't as directed as the actual game. The writing, especially around Robert, feels really good. There's a few points where I disagree with the plot, like cutting sonar/coop or being unable to point out that Invisigal was probably trying to slot in the Astral Pulse. I also thought that Chase should've died, would've been more impactful, but that might be dependent on ending. I got the good ending with Invisigal, and I don't plan on replaying it, mainly because the gameplay part of the game sucks. I don't know if the Dispatch part of Dispatch actually really affects anything other than if you really fuck up versus not fucking up. It's also really simple and there's a lot of interactions you'd think would be there, but aren't. Since the strengths of the game are it's writing and visuals, I'd hope the gameplay would be augmented more with that, but it is not. I don't have much more to point out on this because there really isn't much to point out. It's more akin to a kinetic visual novel, but that's to be expected with a game made by the Telltale devs.

>>1929134 I went with Gal too thinking it would go somewhere. And it really didn't. If you go through again, pick Blazer instead. She seems kinda happy to not have powers. Plus those abs. Sonar was a dick, glad I kicked him. Coop is way more helpful and that +3 she gives combined with flying means she covers any physical situation really well. I was also right to pick Phenomaman over Water Boy, Water Boy's VA is terrible and his ability is to take up a spot if not sent out on a call. That grew really annoying. Plot wise Shourd was kind of a non-threat. Everyone showed up for the final fight despite being way outside the city or having been beaten before. Probably the thing I noticed the most besides the expletives was the grossout humor in episode 8. Hyping up this one guy who descended in an elevator only to go to the bathroom. Then the game forces you to put his dick away or have Visi do it. Eww. But yes, my opinion on this has soured quite a bit. I thought it had potential but it's just the word fuck every 3 lines of dialog, even from someone like Blazer and grossout that's weirdly out of place. The game got 10k positivie reviews yesterday with the complete season drop so I think an S2 is going to be made. I won't play it.

Status: fixed. I was satisfied with the ending. It wasn't perfect, but for Telltale this was pretty good. I'd pirate a second season or something else they made. >>1929191 >Sonar was a dick, glad I kicked him. I feel like Coop makes way more sense in the villain role than Sonar. She's actually threatening. Honestly the decision to let her back on the team seemed kinda BS. She didn't really do anything to redeem herself and she was hugely bad during the last two episodes, but, eh, fuck it. The ending was already so incredibly happy I figured I might as well make a clean sweep. >I went with Gal too thinking it would go somewhere. And it really didn't. Can't say I agree with this. Their relationship felt good to me and the ending was satisfying.
Evil masked guy seems cool
>>1929191 >I went with Gal too thinking it would go somewhere. And it really didn't. If you go through again, pick Blazer instead. Just found out you don't even need to pick. They don't even really get mad or bring it up. You just get both.

>>1929249 I thought the ending was good but was also a disaster typical of capeshit fashion. Like how the fact that you couldn't just kill shroud to stop him immediately as he holds the mutt hostage. It was my all means horrible and the only good thing about it was the "gameplay" and special effects

>>1929485 Was this a British past time passed to it's colonies?
Enjoyed the game well enough, even if the story felt a bit sloppy at the end. Shroud's introduction at the bar was pretty cool. I really enjoyed the actual dispatching gameplay though. Especially in episode 8 where everything is going to hell. The map zoom out was one of my favorite moments. If there was a mode to just play that without having to replay the story I'd play the game more.
>>1929485 I soy'd out and started clapping irl (jk). Was hoping to see comfort Blazer option at some point.
>>1929327 I guess most people didn't bother trying cause didn't expect the game to roll with that.
Overall I really liked the movie. The things that bug me stand out the most though. >Final fight is a a haze of action shots without connection. You can't just show a montage the heros winning immediately ending with all the villains still standing with the upper hand. >Why the fuck did Robert Robertson go back to the villain bar which he knows is frequented by red ring members? Even if he was trying to get information, he went in with no plan for when the obvious happened. >The option to give Shroud both pulses is cool on the surface level, but what would they have done if shroud took both and retreated? He'd have all the time in the world to test both and find the real one.
>>1936207 >Final fight is a a haze of action shots without connection. You can't just show a montage the heros winning immediately ending with all the villains still standing with the upper hand. This is a capeshit problem in general. >Why the fuck did Robert Robertson go back to the villain bar which he knows is frequented by red ring members? Even if he was trying to get information, he went in with no plan for when the obvious happened. This is definitely odd. Shroud's introduction is cool but it is weird Robert would go to a place so dangerous that he got into a fight with his enemies last time. The only explanation I can come up with is he wanted trouble. He just didn't think he'd get that much. >The option to give Shroud both pulses is cool on the surface level, but what would they have done if shroud took both and retreated? He'd have all the time in the world to test both and find the real one. I have less problems with this one. Shroud's entire character is based on trying to remove luck and random chance from his life. Giving him a 50/50 coinflip is literally the worst thing you can hand him and he became irrationally angry from it. His henchman even SUGGESTS doing the smart thing and just taking both but he's so pissed from the situation he just picks one. It works with his character. I don't think it's bad writing to have someone act irrationally when confronted with what they hate most.
>>1936489 It's not really a 50/50 coinflip though. If he takes the delay, he 100% has the astral pulse. He talks big about game theory, but plugging one in blindly is the worst move.
>>1936510 Rationally yes. Though you could also argue without the hostage Shroud had to make a move to power up everyone right there or the heroes would turn the tables.
>>1936524 You could make that argument, but that isn't really shown because capeshit fight direction where none of the hits matter.
>>1936489 I agree. Also, why would Robert keep going to the same dump of a bar even though it caused him trouble a lot of trouble already?
Surprised milennial hipster capeshit is as popular as it is, even here. Don’t get me wrong, I can see there’s a lot of criticism in this thread, but I was expecting total hatred of it.
>>1939831 It's closer to a reconstruction of the superhero genre than the bullshit behind the MCU. Playing many tropes or character archetypes straight instead of making it edgy or making fun of it for the millennial crowd. It isn't constantly cracking jokes, and it respects characters. If certain characters had turned out to be what I and others expected, I think the game would've been far worse for it. And it would be fairly difficult for any millennial hipster-tier writer to actually write a character like Robert the way that he is. You know, mature, useful, knows what he's doing and good leadership/mentorship skills. In addition to resisting the urge to make fun of him and emasculate him at every turn. I think this is going to become more common in the genre, with how tired people are of the poison the MCU brought into basically every superhero IP.
>>1939831 If this was actual millennial hipster capeshit then Robert would be a wimpy, weak-willed doormat who was always wrong and shown up by his diverse and female colleagues. Instead, he's capable, levelheaded, gives as good as he gets, everyone on his team ends up respecting him and the two fully heterosexual female leads both want to fuck him. If you think Marvel would have done that at any point in the last ten years you have not been paying attention.
>>1939952 >It isn't constantly cracking jokes The characters do, though.
>>1940040 They do, but they're just regular jokes instead of the constant Whedon quip/snark.
>>1939831 I simply think capeshit is cool and find how it presents the stakes of the story to be refreshing.
I think it's a crying shame we never got to romance demon girl
>>1940790 Aesthetically she was attractive but she was one of the least developed z-teamers in practice.
>>1939831 Its a pretty good game storywise that takes itself seriously instead of being ashamed of the superhero genre, sure there are some lame jokes but theyre a minor issue more than anything my biggest problem would be that you are railroaded into kicking one of 2 specific people instead of anyone from the team
>>1939831 It got my attention because it looked like millennial hipster capeshit, but was way less millennial or hipster than I was expecting. The heros are heros. The villains are villains. The men are men and the women are women.
