Turok! Anonymous 08/08/2025 (Fri) 22:55:03 Id: 15d18d No. 1642192
I AM TUROK! I started playing it again since the trilogy went on sale. Still very fun but there isn't nearly as many enemies as I remembered it being. Also level 4 is aids. 8 teleporters and only 1 leads to a key. Have fun figuring out which is which. The only game in the trilogy I haven't played is three and I am wondering if I even want to play turok 2 once I am done with 1 or if I should jump to 3. I never see anyone talk about 3. I used to see a bit of talk about turok 2 and the head drill but 3 seems to have been forgotten. I also recently found out they are making a new one. Its a third person shooter though. I only know about it because I was looking for turok on steam. I knew more about that one chibi top down game than this new (seemingly) higher budget game. Did that chibi game even come out? Turok is cool but it seems condemned to obscurity. I wonder if that guy with his n64 and actual physical copy of turok 1 is still here.

Fuc fact: the little dinosaurs that run around and poke you, making you waste all your ammo because its so fucking hard to hit the little niggers. They were actually coded by satan himself.
>>1651263 Doesn't matter which game really if compy are in they're the worst thing in the game.
I want to just quickly do a good and bad list for turok 1 having completed the game a few days ago. Good >Fast paced >Exploration is very fun >Almost all of the weapons are fun to use >Music is fantastic >The environment going from jungle to spaceship is really cool >Variety is fantastic. The last level of the game has new enemies that only appear in the sewers of that level. The bad <some keys can be annoying to find <while enemy variety is great a lot of them act the same <that one bit where you have to platform on multiple pillars. It is by far the place I died the most. <only being allowed to use the chrono scepter against the last boss is kinda lame. Cant really think of anymore downsides for Turok 1. I just think its a fantastic game. Currently going through 2 and its a bit of a slog.
>>1642192 Kind of amazed I only just now remembered the Turok reboot they did on the 360. I memory holed that one. I remember wanting to like the PvPvE bits in the multiplayer but that shit just devolved into everyone running around with the knife while trying to instant kill each other. >>1642331 >My favorite horror for how bleak the odds are; need to find more horror movies with that feel That good? I will have to give it a go soon. >>1651263 Tiny enemies are always a blight. >>1666194 <some keys can be annoying to find Yeah that was always what annoyed me the most in the game back when I first played it. Though it wasn't that bad when I replayed it years later. At least compared to other games I played.
>>1666194 <some keys can be annoying to find If you think Turok 1 was bad with that, don't play Turok 2.
>>1667592 I am currently playing turok 2. I got into level 5 instead of 4 and the hive of the mantids took at least 1 hour and 30 minutes. Sure felt longer than that. I feel like a faggot complaining about having more game but holy shit did that level feel like a gauntlet. 1 hour into the level and I kept asking myself "oh god more level? when does this shit end?". Might have been closer to 1 hour and 47 minutes. Felt like 2 hours. I have played both games before and I do remember not liking turok 2 as much. I just didn't remember the mantid hive being this giant of a level. >>1667456 >the Turok reboot they did on the 360 I played the demo of that years ago but never the full game. Always get curious about it but never enough to actually go and find a copy of the game.
>>1667693 >having more game Having more shit content is not a good thing.
>>1667693 >mantid hive Oh fuck yeah I hated that place too. Boss as well.
>>1667748 >>1667693 Mantid Hive and Lair of the Blind Ones are a complete pain in the ass, a pure slog. Just corridor after corridor with nothing going on but the samey enemy encounters.
>>1667693 >Always get curious about it but never enough to actually go and find a copy of the game Been ages since I played it, but overall it was a pretty shit to mediocre at best game. You really didn't miss much. It is abandonware now too if you want to try it though.
>>1667783 Port of Adia and River of Souls are my two favorite areas in 2. Primagen's Lightship was OK though I still think it's a poor man's version of the Campaigner's Fortress from the first game. Generally as an all around the first game has more fun level design than the sequels.

>spend an hour trying to find the 3rd fucking airvent in lair of the blind ones. >Finally found an entrance to a corridor that I can't jump to >only now notice that the wall underneath is climbable. At least I did indeed find everything. Even got the achievement. I will beat Turok 2 before i finally get to try 3 but I do not think I am ever coming back to Turok 2. I remember this game being confusing and worse than the first game but this is so much worse than I remember. It sucks because I really do think this could be a good game but the level design makes me want to shoot myself. I didn't get a screenshot so enjoy this oekaki of what I missed. Those browndots are way harder to see in game. Go ahead and try this game, I guarantee you will miss at least 1 climbable wall.

I finished Turok 2! Positives first >most of the weapons are great. I really love the lazer gatling gun and the cerebral bore is always fun to use. >game still has a lot of enemy variety >The game looks a lot better than turok 1, way less noticeable fog. >The level design in the primagens flagship is great. It is separated into multiple wings so it makes it a lot more digestible than the other levels. Also makes the backtracking more manageable. >the flying powerup is pretty fun. The bad <The levels are too goddamn long. Lair of the blind ones went on for like 2 hours with another hour of me just trying to find the last fucking thing that I needed. Mantid hive was also just too much. <Level design gets 2 bad points because not only are they large but a lot of it is just corridors. This becomes very noticeable when you are backtracking as you will run through empty corridors into rooms trying to find the last key/objective that you need to progress. <Objectives are a nice thought but I think they ultimately detract from the game. Instead of just finding 3 keys and that is it now you have to find 3 keys and also some other shit. <Why are stun weapons a thing? Genuinely why? I do not understand. Am I supposed to stun them then melee them to death? Stun them then shoot with a gun perhaps? But then why not just shoot with a gun? <Boss battles are pretty lame. Primagen is a very lousy boss and keeps getting his health back. Even if you interrupt his healing he will occasionally just come back out of his little booth with full health. <New Turok isn't as cool. This is a minor complaint but the way he says "I AM TUROK" just doesn't hit as hard. Overall I think this game could have been great if the level design had more restraint. As it is I do not think I will ever replay this game ever again. I am going to play Turok 3 now for the first time and I hope it has aged better than 2. Does anyone even care about turok evolution? I heard it was a flop and that is the only thing I have heard about it. Would they ever even think of porting that to PC?
>>1683310 >Would they ever even think of porting that to PC It was on windows XP, but it was also the most fucked version of the game if I remember right. Like the Turok reboot game, it is abandonware as well. >Does anyone even care about turok evolution? It had a few neat and memorable bits, but overall it was a game that suffered a ton from Acclaim crashing and burning as it was clearly rushed out long before it was ready.
>>1683310 <Why are stun weapons a thing? Genuinely why? I do not understand. Am I supposed to stun them then melee them to death? Stun them then shoot with a gun perhaps? But then why not just shoot with a gun? An additional complaint related to that is that there are a few too many weapons that, while cool, are overly niche and their ammo too uncommon. The stun weapons like you mentioned, the sunfire pods that I think you can only get in the Lair of the Blind Ones, the rocket sled which is great but there's almost nowhere to use it. The razor wind is super fun but I feel like you get it too late in the game for what it is. The Nuke is a poorman's chronoscepter and also a poorman's fusion cannon at the same time and I'm pretty sure you can only get the ammo in the Lightship itself. Also the alien weapon from the first game is MIA and I feel like they made tek arrows worse with the delayed explosion.
>>1684272 >The razor wind is super fun but I feel like you get it too late in the game 100% agree with this. It should have been given to you by level 2 or 3 or something. Instead you get it on the last level before the final boss and by then you already got so many other options.

I "finished" turok 3 and I am feeling wholly underwhelmed. I should note I have only played Danielles part and I will probably play it through again as Joseph. Good parts >multiple playable characters >New weapons are fun. >level design is a lot more straight forward and there is no more hunting for objectives. >Danielle is hot >I love the aesthetic that Oblivion has brought. A lot of the levels are a lot more grungy than in previous levels. Bad parts <way shorter. Danielles story only took like 4 hours (insert 7 pesos alejandro here). <Way more linear. While this does mean we dont have objective hunting of turok 2 we also miss the fun key hunting of turok 1. <Doesn't really feel like turok at all. The first few hours felt more like I was playing a weird half-life mod than turok. This might be a positive if you really love that kind of linear shooters in grungy environments. <inconsistent enemy damage. This was a problem in turok 2 as well but occasionally I will shoot an enemy with 4 rockets and he dies, next time I will shoot an enemy with 1 rocket and he dies. I am unsure if this is me being bad because I do understand that the blades of the enemies are supposed to be blocking bullets but occasionally I will see the bullets hit the flesh and sparks come out and do no damage. It is entirely possible that I am just bad but I am still putting this in as an annoyance. I think you are supposed to hit them while they are throwing grenades but that only works like 505 of the time. <Final fight was really underwhelming and the ending was really weak. <You now take fall damage and damage from your own explosives. At least 3 of my deaths was because I forgot about this. I know the pink text makes it seem like there is more bad than good but I actually liked the game overall. The basic formula of running and gunning is still fun and the weapon and enemy variety is still there. If it had a bit of key hunting thrown in and larger levels it could have been an objective improvement over turok 1. I also think multiple playable characters might have been a bad idea. They should have just picked 1 or the other. I would have gone with Danielle, not just because i want to bang her but also because I keep mixing up joseph and joshua. Then again I haven't played Joseph so maybe he has a bunch of extra levels that are way more fun than danielles levels. While I have the hots for Danielle I think the devs really had the hots for Adom. There is nothing you can say that would convince me someone on the dev team didn't want to fuck Adom. Like especially when this cutscene plays and her ass is covering 1/4th of the screen. I am not complaining by the way. The final plot twist being that Danielle is pregnant is so funny to me, that little fetus is dead from all the damage I took. Danielle is described as being good with explosives and this is the first game you take damage from your own explosives. That future turok is dead from the shockwaves alone.

Some more butts and my end score. I did not get the PSG. I want to defend my high amounts of death by saying I played on hard mode instead of whatever the default is for turok 1 and 2.
>>1690722 I only played Turok 3 through once, as compared to 3 or 4 times for Turok 2 (and many hours in multiplayer death match) and God only knows how many times for Turok 1. I must have replayed the first one 50 to 100 times, I loved it that much. Turok 3 was just to linear for me. I liked the exploration aspect of the first game. By Turok 3 the "modernization" of FPSs seems to have really set in. I think that's why I gave up on the whole genre around that time. I tried to like it despite the flaws but then I got to that one stage where you replay part of the first level of Turok 1 and it just killed it for me. Developers please do not remind me of the game I'd rather be playing. It's almost certainly going cause me to have negative feelings about your game. Instead give your new game every opportunity to make me like it for what it is rather than what it derived or descended from.
>>1643806 >How co me Turok never blew up in popularity anyway? people don't want to play as a native american, same happened to Prey.
>>1692041 More likely developers are scared of stepping on toes and having mean articles written about them for "insensitivity". Look what happened with Thunder's redesign for nu-KI. I don't think anyone has any problem at all playing as an Injun, especially if it's a pulp scifi Injun that fights dinosaurs. >>1643806 The bad prequel game and the terrible reboot game didn't help at all. There was also the thing I mentioned about FPS games transitioning from the 90s environment to the millennial environment. Which didn't help at all. You basically had Halo and Halo semi-clones on the one hand and "realistic" military shooters on the other (probably mostly thanks to 9/11). The old kind of FPS basically died and so did experimentation. Also the very specific version of Turok that we all love comes from the Valiant and Acclaim comics reboots of the character and that's kind of fuckered at this point. Acclaim is fucking dead and I don't think the modern reorganization of Valiant even has the Turok license. Regrdless it's been rebooted a couple of times since the 90s anyway. I think Turok was just a victim of circumstance really.
>>1691633 >I must have replayed the first one 50 to 100 times, I loved it that much. Holy shit >By Turok 3 the "modernization" of FPSs seems to have really set in. I have been thinking about that lately. How the 2000s was both a time of experimentation but also of homogenization. It is like everyone figured out the "optimal" way to do an FPS and just went with that. There was a few people still doing a bit of experimenting but for the most part we had figured out what way to make a game which would appeal to the highest % of gamers. They saw that one way appealed to 70% of people and the other appealed to 30% and went with the former. Leaving the minority out in the cold. >>1692041 You know I have asked a few Americans what they think of natives and the opinions usually sway from "the smart ones make casinos" to outright hatred. Never met one myself since I am a euro. Sometimes I worry if I ever go to America I will become more racist if/when I ever meet a native american. I hope not, I think they have a cool aesthetic.
>>1692041 Console FPS before Halo had some popularity but weren't gigantic hits (compared to other genres on the systems and with Goldeneye being an outlier), you don't hear many people outside some niche circles or older guys talking about Goldeneye/Perfect Dark/Timesplitters nowadays plus Acclaim wasn't a big company, just had some nice Nintendo funding after the first game was a surprise hit, likely due to Goldeneye creating more demand for the genre on the N64. They were also terribly managed and Evolution was the climax of that. The 2008 game was just a brown grey shooter trying to be Gear/Halo published by Disney. Turok was pretty much riding on Goldeneyes momentum on the N64.
>>1690722 I have more thought after playing through Josephs side of the story. Positives >I love the gore, this is also present in all games but I think its the best in 3. >PSG is a very fun final weapon. >I like that both siblings have a lot of unique weapons and the storm bow for Joseph is great. Negatives <no unique levels for the siblings. When I first played as danielle there are points in the story when she tells Joseph to go another way. I thought this meant when playing as joseph you would have a unique level at that point and the game would be structured like pic related. It was not and you only get 1 or 2 side rooms that are unique for each sibling. Kinda cool but not really something to brag about. This isn't really a complaint but the dialogue is sometimes mirrored. As in, during danielles story at the start of the second level she tells joseph "go that way ill figure this out". In josephs story he is the one who say that. I think that is kinda weird. Also even with Joseph saying some of these lines Danielle still talks more than him, making me think She was the original choice for the protag but then they decided to add joseph as well.
Man everytime I see a (1) new post I get excited thinking someone is talking about Turok. Then its just the cp spammer. Like 4 times now as well its annoying. It doesn't even stay up for longer than 2 seconds so why bother with spamming it?
>>1705887 Yeah I really wish that fag would hang himself already. >why bother with spamming it Because his assblast against this place is still going strong. >>1692041 I actually liked native american protags. Then again I used to watch a lot of cowboy movies back in the day so I was used to to seeing them. When done well, they can be pretty cool/interesting characters that are a nice change of pace to the usual protagonist backgrounds. >>1698420 >the opinions usually sway from "the smart ones make casinos" to outright hatred The dozen or so I met were pretty nice. Most of them were trailer trash adjacent though.
>>1706030 Having a native American protag really fits Turok since South America really is the closest to the natural environmemt of dinos, being mostly tropical rainforests.
>>1706051 Wait which turok is set in south america?
>>1718454 None of them, did you even read my post?
>>1718459 Sorry I think I misunderstood what your post meant.
>>1706051 Having a Trurok clone crossed with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would be great actually.
>>1718641 >with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle But why?
>>1718687 >But why?
(78.88 KB 474x680 I AM WILLER.jpg)

>>1718768 Oh shit, he wrote The Lost World? Thought it was another author!
>>1718808 You're probably thinking of Edgar Rice Burroughs. In addition to Tarzan an John Carter, he also wrote two different lost world series of books. One set in a hollow earth with evil psychic Rhamphorhynchus' as the villains and another set on an island where prehistoric creatures basically "digivolve" as they move from zone to zone on the island and recapitualte the whole chain of prehistoric evolution. There's movie versions too.
>>1718926 I actually wasn't, I was thinking of the original novel, I just had no idea that Doyle had written it, but thanks for the recs.
