Tokyo Xtreme Racer Anonymous 09/28/2025 (Sun) 23:51:07 Id: 6fc6cc No. 1798405
I don't understand the appeal of this game. Every clip I see of it is just people doing straight line races on the highway, pegging top gear. Am I missing something? It seems very well liked.
>>1803464 >Nightrunners Game looks like an alternative to the TXR style. Won't be surprised if the game was made before the new TXR entry was announced. Always good to have more options.
>>1803684 Nightrunners probably takes inspiration from the older games in the TXR series (can't find any citation). The newest game was announced somewhere in 2024 while Nightrunners' twitter page made its first post in 2018 (https://xcancel.com/NightRunners_jp/status/1059449321857449984)
>>1803824 I figured. I bet the dev for Nightrunners got tired of Genki not making a new game for 200 years and went ahead and did it themselves.
>>1803464 things i don't like about Nightrunners is how wonky and confusing the UI is and i personally found the aesthetics terrible with how crusty everything looks as it tries to lean into the faux 90s vapourwave style way too hard without the substance of what made the PS2 underground street racing games so fun. The roads are terribly lit despite being on a highway, trying to get into events is a pain in the ass and the GPS system is useless as of the demo. i can't find a good way to tune my cars either there and the driving mechanics need a ton of work (a shitbox 200km/h top speed cars suddenly drove as fast as supercars for some reason, bad handling etc). it's pretty much an attempt at TXR but ended up doing NFSU2 without succeeding at both. that said, there's some good ideas strewn around like walkable locations, the fact that you can physically remove car parts yourself, music's pretty good etc. game needs a ton of work and the new TXR should be the dev's reference point at least to how japanese street racing works
Finally unlocked my favourite car. my previous Impreza is faster :(
I'm still playing TXR 3, but I think next week I'll start the new one. Expect screenshot spams from the new game. Also here's more JDM girls.
TXR 3 hung up on me PS2-style during a cutscene introducing new bosses. That's over an hour of progress and 75K credits down the drain. Guess I'm going to move over to the new one now, expect screenshot spams in the next couple days.
>>1831438 >>1854238 I like how you're posting these photos as if they're yours, like you're a cute girl (♂) with a massive vintage sports car collection.
>>1854249 How did you even come to that conclusion ? At the very start of this thread I said: >>1799104 >We need a JDM girls thread. I'm just sharing these photos I find on the internet because I find them cool. Never claimed or implied they're mine, and I don't know why you'd think that is the case.
>>1854263 I'm afraid this might be a "he likes ya and he wants ya" kind of situation...
>>1854379 I wonder how many pretty asian girls frequent 8chan ... (this is not at all an attempt to look for them)
Finally started the damn game. Been too busy with shit it took me this long. Anyways this is already a slam dunk in my eyes, I can tell just from 3 hours of playthrough that the devs did exactly what they set out to do here: Make a new TXR, don't change what doesn't need to be changed and modernize everything for current standards. The handling is nice and snappy, but perhaps it's too easy, at least compared to the challenging learning curve I went against in TXR 3, it could be that I got used to how the series plays, or they had to dumb it down sadly, not a big deal though as long as the cars driving is fun, which it it. The selection this time is very good, they managed to get Hondas in which is absolutely amazing. They don't have as many cars as TXR 3, not nearly, but honestly, I don't care too much about having too many cars where I won't drive most of them, we'll see how the game goes as I play more but so far no complaints from me about the car selection. The soundtrack is an absolute jam, consisting of a mix of new and remade tracks, they knocked it out the park here. The visuals and overall presentation is clean and superb, modernized just in the right way. The only problem I faced, which is actually a big one: so apparently the early access period of the game, they didn't have gauges for oil and water temperature like is the case in TXR 3, but they added that feature later on, and while doing that, the geniuses forgot to (or decided not to) also add upgrade parts for the radiator and cooling systems of the cars, so right now if you have those gauges on, all cars just overheat after a few races with no way (that I'm aware of so far) to cool it down other than just drive it at civilian speeds. This is honestly a best case scenario for a "PS2-style game comeback" as people are calling it online. Finally, I'm now influenced to go touch up my Kia Forte shitbox in real life and give it a little flair, nothing crazy or expensive, but it could be cool I reckon, if I don't end up changing my mind.
>>1883059 About the overheating, some cars overheat much slower than others to the point some can floor it at redline rpms without overheating for several minutes. Unless it's been patched most people recommend the RX8 though I personally don't care about that car and just race with whatever I like.
>>1883418 I see, good to know. I also won't pick cars based on that either, just going to buy whatever cars I feel like. The Civic is next, once I'm done with this starter shitcar.
Haven't had the chance to play all week. Finally got fed up with the Suzuki shitbox and went ahead and bought the Civic. Sick ass car as expected. The progression is peculiar here with how they're making the player chase specific rivals and bosses to unlock upgrade parts. In the real world, I replaced the break pads in my Forte to some shitty but Korean aftermaket ones because that's what was available, the mechanic was spot on when he told me a couple weeks ago to replace them, the older ones were basically done for and I did it at the right time before the squeaking noises would start to creep up. I also cleaned the engine bay (pic related) and considering how dusty it gets here, I'm proud of the result as is, this is 95% cleaner than most cars here. On my shortlist of mods to buy for the car, I'm trying to find dark grey Kia emblems online that are not stupid expensive, a rear spoiler, and maybe get a cooler looking steering wheel cover.
Played a few more sessions since my last message... beat all rivals pretty much which progresses the game to the next chapter, and there's like a hundred new ones now. I upgraded the Civic to the point most of its parts are level 2-3. I'm kind of growing bored of it, so I'm eyeing a Mazda next, might get the RX-7 or 8 if the grind for the 7 was too much. Broke 263km/h in the Civic today, the sense of speed in this game is brilliant, can't imagine how even faster cars are going to feel once I get to them. Onto the real world, I installed some cheap but okay looking rear spoiler, pic related, don't mind the Mexican colour of the image, my camera is shit. I don't think I'm going to do any more aero beyond this point, just thinking of changing the emblem to the new KIA logo of 2021 onwards, which I found online, will be all black of course, I think the black-on-grey aesthetic looks cool. Will share more once I get and install them.
Started the game because of this thread, has been pretty fun so far but I wish someone had told me that you can scroll the graphic settings menu, it's no wonder the game was running like shit for me when Global Illumination was set to ultra Good game so far otherwise >>1904331 >the sense of speed in this game is brilliant Haven't felt it so far but then again I barely broke the 190km/h mark >don't mind the Mexican colour of the image, my camera is shit. I've seen waaaaaaaay worse, don't worry about it
>>1907256 >Haven't felt it so far but then again I barely broke the 190km/h mark I didn't elaborate on what I liked about it. I like how (like in TXR 3) they're not using cheap tactics like frantically shaking the screen or making the surroundings go hazy-looking to simulates the sense of speed, rather what's doing it for me is the way the road lights especially when you go into tunnels, how the lights just become one long strobe due to the speed, if that makes sense. Also it just feels like what I experienced in real life which is another plus. Global illumination tanks the performance, but it's also so damn good, I have it on high and don't recommend setting it lower than that. Here's a few more useful tactics I've learned from playing: - if there's enough distance to do so, you can signal to your opponent with signal lights to change the route whenever you reach an intersection in the middle of a battle. - accelerating at the last moment during the battle countdown gives you a credits bonus. - this is more for the fun factor but make sure you play with manual transmission with all the additional rules enabled, this also gets you more money per battle. - you can rapidly cool your car by engaging autopilot, lugging the engine, or just standing still for a minute.
>>1907432 Finally went past the 220 mark and yeah, I see what you're talking about, at most there's a small camera shake but the sense of speed comes mostly from lighting >this is more for the fun factor but make sure you play with manual transmission It does improve performance as well, the automatic usually shifts too early.
Ended up buying the RX-8. Damn, this thing is (obviously) a beast, I thought the Civic was pretty good.. The engine can go up to 9000rpm before redlining, I feel pretty unstoppable (until I get obliterated by the Taxi car). For the real world stuff, i dont have anything major. Though, because I'm starting to feel like updating the irl side has become sort of like a habit with these messages, I guess I'll share that I settled on this steering wheel cover. It looks better in-person, trust me. I also think I'm done scooping AliExpress for mods, I should have the stuff delivered and applied by the end of the month, excited to finish up modding the car for now. >>1911486 >It does improve performance as well, the automatic usually shifts too early. Oh nice, I never played the game in Auto so I never knew.
>>1854586 >I wonder how many pretty asian girls frequent 8chan Let's go to places they frequent and invite them here. :^) No, really, let's do it.
FUCK THOSE NIGGERS Wish I could piss in their tanks and top it off with some sugar.
Haven't played in a week or so, been busy. I got fed up (and also outplayed) with the RX-8, was feeling a Toyota for the next vehicle and I settled on the Yaris. Beastly little thing. Will need a little getting used to especially when cornering but it's so fun to drive already. Real life car updates: did a minor service and replaced the front stabilizers, old ones were wobbly and in need of replacing, though I don't feel any difference with the handling after replacing it, I just did it as a precaution and to take care car of the car more than anything. Still waiting for the mods I ordered to be delivered this weekend, excited to add these little touches to make it look cooler.
Still playing it but I don't have a lot of interesting to say or screenshots to share. The game indeed feels fast without throwing a lot of camera effects on the screen. I'm pretty uncreative when it comes to liveries, I wanted to make a kintsugi themed one but there's no vinyl that mimics cracks well enough.
>>1963793 Nice car. The GTR is definitely my next one after I'm done with the Yaris. >>1963793 >I'm pretty uncreative when it comes to liveries, I wanted to make a kintsugi themed one but there's no vinyl that mimics cracks well enough. Same, and I just like to keep things simple in any case, do a fitting paintjob and call it a day. I will say having to allocate some of my SP points to unlock the ability to purchase the cars are adding a little headache game of knowing how much SP I need to be able to unlock a certain car, balancing that with how much I want to spend to unlock upgrades for parts, perks etc.
>>1963866 >Nice car. The GTR is definitely my next one after I'm done with the Yaris. It's definitely my favorite so far as actually driving it goes. I usually go for the cars I know, but I'm not that much into cars so I only know a few iconic ones >I will say having to allocate some of my SP points to unlock the ability to purchase the cars are adding a little headache game The perk system only started giving me problems later where everything gets more expensive, it forces me to make choices on what to get first
>>1964931 >pic related Really nice machine of yours there. It inspired me to go back and customize the Yaris a bit. I dub it The Dragon.
Onto to the more exciting stuff, the mods for my Forte finally arrived, I spent most of yesterday's evening setting all up. Think it looks so cool now. The pics are shit probably because I was too tired and I'm never good with photography anyways.

>was having fun with it for a while until I got all the tier 1 upgrades now progression has screeched almost to a grinding hault I should not have to drive 2 or 3 miles to challenge another driver. With all the map that I've unlocked, there should not be any less than 20 drivers on the map at any given time
>>1963793 >The game indeed feels fast without throwing a lot of camera effects on the screen. Except the annoying camera shake gets more erratic and worse the higher the speed which I turned off LOL. I'm done with this game
>>1980559 >ADHD nonsense The progression is very good in this game. You can return to the garage and change your starting spot when there's no one close to you at a given time. >>1980597 I briefly broke the 300km/h speed record and the camera shake isn't too erratic to my taste still. It's subjective. Luckily it's an option not a requirement.
>>1975216 That's a nice sheen! Does it have a lighter?
>>1980712 >The progression is very good in this game No, it's dogshit progression. It should not take me 2+ hours to unlock a single fucking part kys. >You can return to the garage and change your starting spot when there's no one close to you at a given time. Which you are neglecting the fact that you have to wait behind a stupid day cycle loading screen just to do it. The fact that you cannot switch lanes going the opposite direction naturally is proof that they are simply padding out the progression of the game as much as possible
>>1975146 It looks like something that a rival would use in game, well done >>1975216 Planning to do anything else with your car? >>1980597 Hence "a lot", but I don't feel it nearly as bad as you're saying >>1980712 >You can return to the garage and change your starting spot when there's no one close to you at a given time. Don't forget the PA fast travel perk
>>1980728 Thanks. >>1980728 >Does it have a lighter? Like a cigarette lighter ? I don't think so, no. >>1980854 >No, it's dogshit progression. It should not take me 2+ hours to unlock a single fucking part kys. Which part are you talking about here ? Personally, I don't expect to unlock Engine upgrade parts so frequently for example. That'd be pretty lame in my opinion. Especially since part upgrades in this game actually do something and make a noticeable difference. We can agree to disagree here. >>1980854 >Which you are neglecting the fact that you have to wait behind a stupid day cycle loading screen just to do it. I think I do this only once maybe twice per session. It's not that deep, especially with a fast car you can close the gap pretty quickly and get to the next opponent. Not to mention the fast travel perk the next anon mentioned. >>1980854 >The fact that you cannot switch lanes going the opposite direction naturally That is rather unfortunate they don't allow that, I agree here. I tried ramming into an incoming traffic car while going top speed in the wrong direction to possibly eject the car and fly myself into the other direction. So far I keep failing, chiefly because I set the Ride Height in all my cars to at least -3, so it's pretty close to the ground, I end up launching the other car instead of mine. >>1980890 >It looks like something that a rival would use in game, well done Thanks, that was my idea too. >>1980890 >Planning to do anything else with your car? Honestly, this is most likely as far as it goes when it comes to mods. On one hand, this is just a regular ass Kia sedan, not a show-off BMW or whatever, so I don't plan on doing anything else on it at the moment. On the other hand, I think I'll be occupied with the maintenance cost of the car rather than the mods cost, don't want to waste too much time/money on cosmetics when I'm neglecting the actual caring aspect of the car's internal parts etc, especially as I have the CVT fluid change coming up, and I'm already dreading the consequences and the cost of doing that. Down the line, mayyybe I'll think of doing some Chrome Delete vinyl and wrap the window frames and the grille to further the black-on-grey look I got going with these little mods I did here. Thanks for asking. >>1980890 >Don't forget the PA fast travel perk Ditto.
