Wasn't this show an early victim of shitty localization?

>>1073138 >>1073140 Is it? I always assumed it was intentionally translated wrong as a joke like Takeshi's Castle.
>>1073150 Apparently the story is they didn’t bother to get any translators, so they just made up the Dialogue based on what was going on in the animation.
>>1073140 Fuck Saban, Delete Saban.
>a good thread for once >thread ruined by naked JewTube link and postage stamp 360p rip I will force everyone to enjoy native video in their browser if I have to batch encode the entirety of this show in both Japanese and English.

>>1073176 >Jewtube link Wait wait? Oh fuck, was supposed to be the Steam link, shit, my bad. >thread ruined by naked JewTube link and postage stamp 360p rip Teach me how to encode anon, all these programs suck ass, I need to into FFMPEG
>>1073150 The cats were ninja in the original and burgers changed them into samurai. You do not mix ninja with samurai. >>1073151 Digging around a bit, the story is that the show was unpopular in Japan, so when it was licensed for an English dub, the Japanese didn't care about what the dubbers did and let them do whatever. The dubbers then just made the dialog up from watching the scenes without bothering to translate.
>>1073177 NTA but what's your OS? If Linux, use Aviator. https://github.com/gianni-rosato/aviator Old webm thread where it was introduced is gone now, but IIRC the optimal set-up was >CRF 56 with perceptual tuning enabled >Speed 4 >audio quality 16 (I use 32 for stereo sound if it the video is under 32MB & if it 16 makes it sound too crunchy) You'll get various results depending on if the quality is clean or grainy, if there's motion to capture, and how long it is.
Here was my command line with Staxrip on Windows: "C:\Users\anon\Downloads\StaxRip-v2.44.4-x64\Apps\Support\avs2pipemod\avs2pipemod64.exe" -dll="C:\Users\anon\Downloads\StaxRip-v2.44.4-x64\Apps\FrameServer\AviSynth\AviSynth.dll" -y4mp "C:\Users\anon\Downloads\bootstrapper\『キャッ党忍伝てやんでえ』ビデオゲーム・アナウンストレーラー.webm_temp\『キャッ党忍伝てやんでえ』ビデオゲーム・アナウンストレーラー_new.avs" | "C:\Users\anon\Downloads\StaxRip-v2.44.4-x64\Apps\Encoders\SvtAv1EncApp\SvtAv1EncApp.exe" --input - --output "C:\Users\anon\Downloads\bootstrapper\『キャッ党忍伝てやんでえ』ビデオゲーム・アナウンストレーラー.webm_temp\『キャッ党忍伝てやんでえ』ビデオゲーム・アナウンストレーラー_new_out.ivf" --width 1920 --height 1080 --frames 6271 --rc 0 --crf 56 --progress 3 --preset 4 --fast-decode 2 --recode-loop 3 --keyint -1 --irefresh-type 1 --scd 1 --startup-mg-size 3 --enable-dlf 2 --noise-norm-strength 4 --psy-rd 0.5 --spy-rd 1 --color-primaries 1 --transfer-characteristics 1 --matrix-coefficients 1 --enable-tf 2 Generally speaking, with SVT-AV1-PSY you need to rely on specific programs like those in the webm thread >>1072700, however, many of its features are set to be merged into mainline SVT-AV1. https://gitlab.com/AOMediaCodec/SVT-AV1/-/releases/v3.0.0 Literally just announced. So I think eventually you can do everything in FFMPEG when libsvtav1 is updated and don't have to hop through hoops with the SvtAv1EncApp binary accordingly. I just use Staxrip because it's very convenient and allows for frame-exact cutting and cropping, as seen with my 4:3 encode. Nonstandard settings I use: --irefresh-type 1 uses forward frames rather than keyframes for open GOP selection, however it tends to break seeking which users here don't like so feel free to use --irefresh-type 2 and a 300-600 GOP for standard use. I just use forward frames because from my testing it reduces file size. --noise-norm-strength 4 I cranked this up because the trailer seeks to replicate filmed cel-painted animation and noise needs to be retained, generally speaking for other use cases keep it at zero. Refer to these articles for reference as they can explain AV1-PSY encoding better than I can. https://wiki.x266.mov/docs/encoders/SVT-AV1-PSY https://wiki.x266.mov/blog/av1-for-dummies As a bonus, Illya and Miyu tush on the front page.

>>1073319 Big Cheese is a mouse, deal with it!

>>1073181 >the story is that the show was unpopular in Japan I've heard this kind of story before and I'm not sure if I buy it.
>>1073393 I remember that "Ghost Stories" history correcting to the show flopping in South Asia because of the Animax channels around Hong Kong, India and the Phillipines showing a dry English dub at an off time.
>>1073393 Yeah I'm very skeptical of that story too. It's the typical bullshit lie that a westoid lolcowizer would tell to justify their butchering of anime.
>>1073648 There's an infamous publisher and localization company from the 90s that did a lot of really shitty translations of obscure Japanese games, often radically changing the story and turning the dialogue into pure 1990s cheese. The justification behind their work was and still is that the games they ported were unknown and never would have gotten a Western release otherwise. That's not a great argument for doing bad work, but it's what people defend them with. Well, if you looked at the sales charts it turns out a lot of these games weren't that obscure at all, many were actually decently popular in Japan and this company were the first to snatch up the rights. I can't remember their name, maybe an anon will help.
>>1077329 Working Designs?
>>1077330 I think that's it, I remember there being "undesigned" fan retranslations of some of their ports.
>>1077331 It is Working Designs then, and the patches you're thinking of are often called "Unworking Designs"
>>1077365 Forgot to add. Most of those patches also undo those intentional difficulty changes WD put in (Because WD didn't want you to just beat the game in a weekend & return it back to rental as was commonplace back then), it's not just undoing the localization.
>>1077330 >>1077365 >>1077371 Funny how I thought Working Designs did a decent job with Dragon Force on the Saturn back in the day.
>>1073138 Yeah. Zoomers don't know about it.
>>1073138 It wasn't shitty, it made the show even better. Initially the dubbers didn't get the translation notes so they played it by ear and recorded dialogue based on what they could infer from the show. However their writing was excellent and really funny so they kept that irreverence throughout the show. They later got proper translation notes but still went half adlib half adapted. The dub is incredible and I will not hear any bullshit about it from you stoner weeb faggots or you will taste my magical ginzu sword.
>>1073227 I should probably make a thread for this, but what actually are the good Famicom/FDS games? There were hundreds of Japan-only games. I know of Goonies and Getsu Fūma Den. I believe Japan had a lot of RPGs, VNs, and shoot 'em ups that were never ported. While Princess Tomato in Salad Kingdom is a real oddity on the NES, there were dozens on games like that on the Famicom.
>>1079359 >oh but the retarded "self-aware" jokes and pop culture references are totally better than the shitty source material that was a failure anyway >said about every butchered lolcowized jap media, by every braindead mongoloid who never watched the original to begin with
>>1079359 This, also love Polly's English voice.

Is it bad that this is the only game I'm actually hyped for?
>>1097356 I'm excited for it since it has so much effort being put into it.
>>1079415 >Butchered Jap media Bitch 90% of the time the original show is never that interesting. Especially these days since most anime is just isekai wish fulfillment for virgins. I did watch the original Kyatto, thought it was decent, but I liked the dub better. I'm excited for this because this show's English dub, along with Mystical Ninja for SNES, are both important formative memories for me.
>>1079359 Those figures are expensive af now , specially pururun
>>1097356 Really says a lot about the industry that a 3 decade old dead IP can mog it so hard. I can't remember which direct they showed it off at, but it was the only thing that looked remotely interesting.
>>1110296 Yeah, the dub is quite funny.
I really like the parts where Kitsunezuka crossdresses.
>>1073123 I thought ko-on's japanese VA was dead but I guess not?
>>1073138 no, it was a victim of Tatsunoko not giving a fuck about it. To the point where they didn't save the script notes for the localizers to translate from. So they had to make it up as they went. It was better that way. >>1079318 >Zoomers >Samurai pizza cats They literally do not know about this.

this game got way more attention that i ever expected. Scary to think literal retards keep holding so many IPs hostage like this, sitting on piles of gold for decades while wondering why no one buys new product
I only clicked for the cute cat, I have no idea what pizza cats is. The game's art style is beautiful and platforming in the trailer looks fast and fun.
>>1110296 >>1181099 That's likely bullshit like it was here >>1073393 Westoid lolcowizers love to make shit up to justify their shitty gag dubs and they know retards like you will just parrot their bullshit.

>>1079415 >>1207291 Somehow these localizers always seem to go out of their way to license the "failed" shows for an English dub. Why would they spend money licensing a show that they think is unpopular or a failure? This is why 100% of the claims of "we salvaged a failure with our shitty dub" are going to be bullshit. If the show had actually been a failure, there wouldn't be any interest in licensing it.
>>1207291 The dub was unironically good and you're just another stupid annoying culture war faggot fighting a misguided battle against nobody because no one gives a shit, comb the fleas out of your beard and kill yourself. "It's not subbed therefore bad" is one of the most unwashed gorilla hoodnigger weeb opinions you can have.
(120.38 KB 1000x1000 Pink Guy.jpg)

Not even worth a (You)
On the whole issue of gag dubs, it's clear to me that western localizers just want to be Team Four Star and grab some anime to use it as a platform for their own comedy. Reading the comments on DB Abridged there is no shortage of retards saying that Abridged is better than the original. The problem is that Abridged is not Dragonball, it doesn't matter what your subjective opinion is, you cannot replace an original work with something that is completely different and has a different tone. Imagine if people started seriously considering Abridged as the real Dragonball, that's the situation with gag dubs like Kyatto or Ghost Stories. Gag dubs can be a fun side thing, companion pieces the original, but to say that they are replacements or better shows a fundamental philistine attitude towards art. It doesn't matter how much you like it, it was purposely made different, it wasn't translated, it was rewritten with a different vision, so it can never be a replacement. It's the same thing with remakes, it's full of retards out there who fool themselves into thinking they've played Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill 2 because they hopped on the FOTM remake bandwagon.
>>1286224 abridged is dependent on the original as a source to make fun of. it wouldn't exist if the latter hadn't been broadcast. also they started forcing le quirky dumblr zoomer humor towards the end. zoomerspeak and dumblr garbage like trigger warnings, commentary on 'societal beauty standards' and even a literal faggot (majin buu shorts), etc.
>>1079359 >>1110296 >>1283262 >I will do everything in my power to do damage control for people who are bad at their job, because I hate Japan and I didn't watch the original
>>1286922 I was surprised they had the balls to do the Android 18 gag, that was knee deep in the MeeToo bullshit.
>>1334153 But guys! Its okay when they did it! They're lefties, lol!
this thread keeps getting bumped but you fags don't post pururun
>>1110296 God I wish I could find more games that felt like mystical ninja. I hunted down and tried the n64 Goemon a while back and it was fun but the theme wasn't quite right, it felt too different.
>>1339126 Not really, plenty of leftyniggers were bullied into submission for even daring to find the opposite sex alluring.
