EA is releasing the Source Code of all Command and Conquer games Anonymous 02/27/2025 (Thu) 19:48:39 Id: 6cb900 No. 1074913
Holy fuck it even includes Renegade And they're still uploading, hopefully C&C3 next. >You will live to play SAGE C&C games at more than 30 FPS What a time to be alive! https://github.com/electronicarts/
>>1074913 >It's real What the fuck? Has hell frozen over?
Man that took them forever to the release the source code of those old ass games, I hope that means there will be a C&C Generals source port with a native linux build. Because for some retarded reason I cannot run C&C Generals at all due to this fucking fatal error bug I keep encountering
>>1074913 >EA just giving source codes What's next, sex robots entering the market?
>>1074934 Yes, but they will have mandatory always online DRM.
>>1074936 "Sex robot with Denuvo" sounds almost like "Girlfriend with AIDS".

>>1074913 >EA is releasing the Source Code of all Command and Conquer games What's the catch to this?
Could someone use it to fix 4?
The will of God-Emperor Trump strikes again.
>EA releases source code >Tim Cain still hasn't gotten OK from MS to release source code for Arcanum that he owns and just needs MS to agree to remove the "can't help bypass DRM it hasn't been sold with for well over a decade" clause of contract What? Also ESRB re-rated a 2012 browser game Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances today.
I just realized >EA actually has their source code from 2000s to release it >Console Nightfire is based on the PC native id Tech 3 >Nightfire did pretty decently on GoG Dreamlist >Bond IP is in complete paralysis right now with Amazon having no idea what the hell to do with it (so no new movie/show any time soon) and IO interactive's project is a no show There's a small, and I mean small, possibility of Nightfire (+AUF/EoN/FRwL?) on PC. I'm sure they'd fuck it up somehow, but it would be nice.

>Workshop suppport Neat
>>1074913 I hope the modding community goes even more bonkers than it already has with that, iirc a bunch of mods had to stop purely because you can't add more than 256 things to C&CG:ZH

I don't like it when companies I hate do things I like
WHERE IS RED ALERT 2
When i saw the news every single warning feelings i had started blaring inside my head, but i have yet to see the catch. It's impossible for EA to do something good, there must be a catch somewhere.
>>1074913 >Generals Does it mean it will finally run on modern hardware? Too bad I threw like 15 bucks for the whole collection a year ago.
>>1075158 Just get GenLauncher
>>1075101 Probably doing a remaster and don't want fan made competition for it.
>>1075200 And what about red alert 3 and cnc 3 and 4?
>>1075116 It's very likely a PR stunt to see if they can get away with butchering the franchise in a new game
>>1075201 Who knows. It could also just be that they lost the source code for some of the games or maybe EA only gave them the go ahead for some but not all of the games. Seeing them give out the code for most older games up to Gnerals but then skipping Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 makes me feel like they were possibly remastering/doing something with them at a later date. Though again, it is possible they just don't have that code anymore.
>>1074913 I have no attachment to this series at all, I never even played the games, but why would EA of all companies do this? This is one of the most anti-EA things they must have ever done.
>>1075216 After they restructured into EA Entertainment and EA Sports being 2 seperate divisions that gave some breathing room to smaller teams since not everything was centralized by executives that focused only on EA Sports shit.
Cautiously optimistic Since they're being so generous, maybe they'll actually let Dead Space 4 happen someday?
>>1076465 Do you really want to have Dead Space 4 with the shit they did with the remake?
>>1076465 >Optimistic about EA Anon it's a small team inside EA who pushed super hard for it, don't expect EA their development pipeline to get any better. >Dead Space 4 >After Dead Space 3 >After that pozzed to shit Dead Space Remake Nigger do you want to eat shit that badly?
>>1074913 >not bait Holy shit lol
(1.88 MB 720x480 EA Sucks.mp4)

>>1092658 Yeah it is one of those rare moments where EA didn't suck balls.
>>1092682 Gonna be cool to see what people make with this. I've had the RTS itch lately but OpenAOE seems to be dead now.
>>1092787 >Gonna be cool to see what people make with this Definitely. I hope they one day can release the code for Red Alert 2 as well. >I've had the RTS itch lately Yeah I've been trying out random command and conquer mods for all the games. Those have been pretty hit or miss. Not that many were terrible, just that the changes they include usually managed to really annoy me at some point.
>>1076465 That would only have happened if Dead Space 2 remake did, and then an alternate Dead Space 3.
>>1093096 RA2 Source Code was lost I believe so unless there's some luck with someone finding it on a garage sale/ thrift store, it ain't happening.
>EA releases source code >baits modders and autist to give new life to their IP >??? >profit?
I never got to play Renegade online as I didn't have broadband at that time, but I did play the multiplayer skirmishes with bots a bunch, I liked the RTS elements. Are there any other games that have you play as a unit on the ground of an RTS game?
>>1096370 >I never got to play Renegade online You still can either with the Tiberian Technologies patch or using the third party W3D launcher. There is usually a full or at least semi full server going on depending on when you decide to play. >Are there any other games that have you play as a unit on the ground of an RTS game? Some that I remember: >Natural Selection 1 and 2 >Nuclear Dawn >Executive Assault 1 and 2 >Empires (Mod) >Tremulous >Renegade X (fan remake of renegade) >Renegade X Firestorm (not released yet) >Renegade W3D (has several mods for Renegade (RA1 and TS for example) to play with and adding RA2 soon) >Savage XR >Silica (Early Access) >Battlezone 98 redux >Angels Fall First (Early Access) >Gates of Hell Ostfront (more of an rts but it let you take direct TPS style control of units) >>1093602 Yeah, an anon can dream though.
>>1103011 Oh and Attack on Toys if you want your plastic army men games.
Suspiciously generous of EA, what's the catch?
Have there been any news about projects starting up from the code release? I wanted to replay RA 1 & 2 on Linux but OpenRA is not really good for campaign play. >>1109512 It's been posted in the thread.
>>1110161 Back when they first posted the code, I wandered around looking at some modder communities and it seemed like it will be a while before they can unpack and understand everything enough to start fixing long standing issues and then making improvements/etc.
mental omega > shit > generals
>>1144762 Too much fanfictiony stuff
>>1074913 >GPL license absolutely based, another win for RMS
>>1223414 last rise of the reds update was 10 years ago
>>1074913 Developing AI for these RTS games is really complicated, they wouldn't be doing this if they didn't have some kind of next gen breakthrough with machine learning models for the AI which makes all the old manually programmed ones obsolete.
>>1231621 AoE2 has AI that will beat your fucking ass into the fucking shadow realm and it was developed before machine learning was a thing.
>>1075167 >Just crash every other game bro no, I don't think I will
>>1244755 You mean beyond actual cheats?
>>1075211 >but then skipping Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 makes me feel like they were possibly remastering/doing something with them at a later date. >Though again, it is possible they just don't have that code anymore. if they don't have the code anymore that makes it even more unlikely they remaster it >>1075216 EA hasn't been so bad in recent years. You could also say they don't really do anything at the moment. They gave the ok to the Skylords devs to revive Battleforge as a fan project. Wild Hearts currently gets ported to Switch2 without any association with EA (assuming they let them have the IP) Josef Fares defended EA (but to be fair all of his games were a success, maybe he changes his mind after he fails expectations)
>>1244755 That's just because it literally cheats resource gains and can see through fog of war.
>>1254187 Actual player data and base logic. It only reacts to found information from scouting and tries to raid/build compositions to counter what you make when it sees you having certain units. It doesn't blind counter you but it does pull underhanded tactics and tends to flank a lot. Very deadly in open maps with its infinite micro ability. Doesn't cheat any resources, it's just that good and you can check such a thing on replays.

The enemies of China will burn bright today
GET IN, ANONS!
>ubisoft deleting games >EA preserving them That sure was a curve ball but it's official, EA has redeemable qualities and now Ubislop is objectively one of the worst gAAAy companies.
>>1075101 In the balls.
>>1096370 spartan total warrior. made by total war team. Some levels has you get strategic scripted objectives from some general figure. Though its mostly historically inaccurate hack and slash. And a great one at that.

>>1290148 >Those masses of enemies >Those brutal as fuck sound effects >Thinning out those hordes >The enemy infighting >Charging with your fellow soldiers >That ominous as fuck Roman invasion setting >Singling out an annoying as fuck stronger enemy with your ultimate attack >That orchestral war choir soundtrack mixed with techno by Jeff Van Dyck Playing it emulated on my PC at 4K and a table 60FPS is a fucking dream. The amount of talent the industry had back then is unheard of today, totally squandered to sell absolute crap to retardes plebs, such a shame. I wantto give Viking Battle for Asgard a try, but the 30 FPS lock puts me off.
>>1096370 >Are there any other games that have you play as a unit on the ground of an RTS game? Almost the entire Musou series, R&F:C@W, Brutal Legend, the SpellForce series, and the Pikmin series to an extent.
>>1255564 they just shut down codemasters and delisted leisure suit larry games which codemasters had the rights to.
Kinda late when OpenRA is better in most cases.
>>1296090 >they just shut down codemasters Oh shit really? Thank God, no longer are they parading their corpse.
>>1296090 >delisted leisure suit larry games Bro just wanted to score. They didn't have to do him dirty like this

>>1096370 Does the Pro Evolution Soccer (on Wii) count? You technically play it more like an RTS than a classic divegrass sim, but you can also control an individual unit depending on the control schemes. Heck you can have two players co-op acting as the individual players for tactics and the team as a whole for strategies. Really underrated games, by the way, completely different from modern sportshit
