Licensed Games Anonymous 04/17/2025 (Thu) 05:46:15 Id: dbeba8 No. 1109109
Post licensed vidya that you like, for me it's the first The Darkness game. I wish there was another game with a similar tone and atmosphere and that Nightdive can escape the licensing nightmare over this game so we can get a PC port.

I don't think anyone would know about the darkness if not for the game. Same thing with Turok.

All of these for me
>>1109130 Thanks anon that's the highest rez version of this picture I've seen and the only clean one too.

>>1109130 Yeah, I've noticed that with a lot of comic books they have incompetent writers then when it comes to a video game adaptation its staff manages to adapt the setting into something actually worthwhile and the comic skyrockets into popularity.
>>1109109 Been wanting to play it, only ever touched the demo
>>1113542 I haven't played it in forever. I remember it fondly though.
The best game Platinum has yet made, and I truly believe that.
>>1122362 Vanquish and Bayonetta 1 were better
>>1109109 I thought 2nd game was shit but to be perfectly honest I'm not sure how else the story could have panned out better
>>1122362 I disagree my friend. Vanquish was fucking amazing, they just marketed it in the dumbest way imaginable.
>>1122369 >>1122410 I find Devastation to be the better evolution of Bayonetta's mechanics than its own sequel, on top of having new ideas that fit the IP like a glove and the most consistently good boss lineup in the entire genre. Vanquish has better shooting but Devastation fitting TPS mechanics into itself without them feeling awkward is great. Also Vanquish has real issues with its weapon upgrades and melee system, biggest issue with TFD is just a lack of budget leading to low asset variety and low polish on the itemization.

Obvious choice but the Batman Arkham series
(1.74 MB 320x240 Tron 2.0.mp4)

(3.92 MB 1920x1080 KOTOR.webm)

These two. Also isn't the Megaten franchise technically a licensed franchise based on a novel?
>>1109109 I have the darkness 2 and most of the single player achievements, I wanted to play multiplayer except there's nobody playing the game online on steam
>>1109109 Spider-Man's had it pretty good when it comes to licensed video games, at least compared to most IPs, most people think of all those open world titles, but even the level based ones, even the 2D titles, can be pretty good! It's even got a few MetroidVanias for whatever reason. I love the early 3D ones on PS1 aswell, especially the 1st, though the sequel is good too and I find it to be very underrated for what it was, I also found out about the 1st GBA title, which is pretty much a 3rd PS1 installment, and it was a blast to play through, same goes for all the GBC ones, and a few of the original GB ones. I wish modern Spider-Man wasn't slop.
There's an obscure, mediocre Charlie and the Chocolate Factory game from the 2000s that I only remember because Ratchet's voice actor plays Willy Wonka.

>>1109109 Gunnm Martian Memory is cool because it feels like a prototype action game before Rising Zan and DMC. It also had a lot of involvement of the author. The last part of the game is basically all the stuff he didn't get to do in the original manga, and then would later become the bases for Last Order. It's pretty cool. Also, is The Darkness Comic worth reading?
The EA Lord of the Rings games were pretty neat with The Third Age and Battle for Middle-Earth 1 and 2 standing out for me
>>1152038 Based choice, I'm surprised with how little this game gets brought up

>>1190319 the last legit steam key for Dark Athena goes for crazy money nowadays I feel like it's money laundering speculation at this point and it's been switching hands for years now because nobody is retarded enough to activate it on their acc if they can make a couple thousand bux of profit from it last year it was only at 3000 euros

>>1123798 Technically yeah, Megami Tensei was originally based on a series of light novels called Digital Devil Story. But even Megami Tensei 2 had barely anything to do with the books and the shift to Shin Megami Tensei wiped the slate clean. Aside from Cerberus' design (kinda... Kaneko took a few liberties with his version of it but kept the inaccurate concept of Cerberus being a white lion with a snake tail) and the very basic idea of using computer programs to summon demons (which half the games don't even use) the two series have nothing in common anymore.
Not sure how well it holds up, but I remember really liking the Shaman King Metroidvania on GBA. I didn't even remember it was actually made by Konami.
>>1203792 They still throw some callbacks in there. Like in P3 with the MMO, but yeah, nothing major and the two are practically two different series.
>>1203835 If I recall correctly it still holds up decently well. I remember most of the spirits not being all the useful as you progress through the game, however.
>>1109109 I didn't even know about the comic when I first played it.
A different thread made me remember this game. Didn't even realize it was based on a movie until much later.
>>1232973 Holy shit I vaguely remember seeing the movie on TV once or twice.

It had no right being as good as it was at the time. I completely expected something painfully generic, but instead its based on survival, ammo management and adds way more chapters and dinosaur/monster interactions than the movie.

Some of my faves that haven't been mentioned yet... >A Bug's Life and Toy Story 2 3D platformers, from the same devs, based on two consecutive Pixar movies, and they play alike. I know there are many 3D platformers from that era, but these ones are solid. I also like the puzzle platforming mechanics with the seeds in A Bug's Life. >The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King A GBA Metroidvania prequel to the movie. Not as good as the actual GBA Metroid or Castlevania games, but fun for fans. I was a bit disappointed that since it's a prequel it's all Halloween Town, but that's fine, I guess. It's just that spending that many hours in Halloween Town makes me want to fucking kill myself. It's a depressing environment on purpose. So I end up feeling like Jack. I guess the game succeeded at what it set out to do. >The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge A DMC clone sequel to the movie. It has lots of songs that aren't as good as the movie but pretty good for making you feel like you're playing a sequel to the movie. They got most of the original voice actors back, but not Danny Elfman, who wrote the music and was Jack's singing voice. Instead, Jack's speaking voice, Chris Sarandon, does the singing as well, and he's perfect. But Elfman not writing the music is clear due to the lesser quality. Still, good game though. I don't even like DMC, but I like this. >All the Dragon Ball games that haven't been mentioned in this thread yet My personal favorite is Budokai Tenkaichi 3. I know there is a new sequel out that people like, but 3 has Wii controls, and it's the most fun Wii controls game I've ever played. You do the motions to shoot a Kamehameha or charge a Genki Dama or all the other moves you'd want to do. I suppose there is a Kinect game that would theoretically do this better, if it works, but I'm not about to get a Kinect and the game to test it. If that game actually works, though, let me know. Do you ever do shit like pic related with Kinect controls? Because if so, that seems like fun.
(17.24 KB 255x360 bb.jpg)

I liked it. BB is a decent game.
>>1203835 The crazy thing is it was never released in Japan. It's not just a decent at worst licensed game, it's an anime game made for the western market that's not horrible.
>>1190410 The lengths people will go through to avoid piracy is insane.
(52.34 KB 700x533 nightfire.jpg)

There's other good Bond games but I'll always have a soft spot for Nightfire. The main campaign feels short, but the multiplayer is very fun.
>>1434987 Everything or Nothing was my favorite, and I wanted to like From Russia with Love, which was more of the same plus Connery, but I never got that much into it.
>>1434987 I'll just have you know i'm playing this on pc and it's absolute fucking ass, everything just feels off and there's bugs and the ai is retarded.
>>1435134 Genuinely can't tell if you're trolling or just don't know.
>>1435076 I never played either of those myself, how's Everything or Nothing? >>1435134 PC port was unfortunately done by Gearbox, who bungled it hard. Console versions are fine, though.
>>1436851 It's not a PC port, it's a completely different game running on Goldsource.
>>1436923 My bad, could've sworn it was a port.
