Dynasty warriors Anonymous 04/20/2025 (Sun) 05:44:48 Id: b462f9 No. 1168805
Which iteration of Dynasty warriors is the best? your personal favourite?
I AM COW PEE
I liked the one where there was a map that I had to conquer it was a map with nodes and some of them had special buildings or bosses
>>1168805 You posted it + XL. Man I hate KT. Motherfuckers ought to port all of these in a collection to Steam already. Pipe dream I know, they can't be fucked to fix DW8 port let alone care about older titles. DW6 has official PC version yet they can't even be fucked to put it on Steam - it's abandonware.
You posted it already. Zhang Liao and Zhou Yu peaked in this game
>>1178699 Zhang Liao was great in 6. 7 gave him a fanfic death scene but it also showed him effortlessly fighting off the 4 main Shuggots so it balances out. Unless you mean because of the weapon and not the overall appearance. In which case I agree. Axes are a downgrade.
>>1178815 Thing is, Zhang Liao in 5 to me felt like one of the main players, the special group of characters that get the most attention in the game. He was the top Wei guy besides the two Caos and Sima Yi, and that level of presence and importance is not something I saw from him in the other games. I guess his situation is comparable to that of Magaoichi Saika in SW2. I haven't played SW5 but from what I've see in the other games Magoichi peaked in SW2 and in this game he wasn't someone you could afford to mostly ignore unlike his appearance in, say SW1. ZLiao in DW5 feels the exact same way Mago in SW2 does to me. His Hefei pre-stage(?) cutscene is one of the most iconic cutscenes in the history of Musuo games. I also have other reasons, like the weapon change you mentioned, and also his DW4-5 voice actor which is the one I like the most between all of his VAs. DW7 is still a strong contender though I'll admit, Shufags getting humbled was amazing.
>>1168805 Definitely 5. All the characters had just the right amount of dev time compared to them feeling all samey in the later entries and i think Omega Force realised it too so they cut alot of them for DW:Origins.
>>1168805 Dynasty Warriors 5 I feel they got the gameplay just about perfect at this point. The characters all feel powerful in their own way but not to the point where its so easy that you slaughter 1-2 hundred of the peons with ease in one combo like with the later games. It also does not feel as stiff or combo lacking like many officers could feel from the prior games. I think Taishi Ci for example sucked in the first few DW games but at least becomes playable by 5. Contrast with Guan Yu who was always fun to use. So I had fun playing as pretty much all of the officers and they all felt unique enough. The difficulty isn't as balanced as it could have been but its still good enough here. The Xtreme Legends expansion is also very fun and definitely worth playing if you like DW5. The PS2 DW games are very underrated and are some of my favorite games.
I keep hearing that 7 had a really good story mode, and it pissess me off because i got a copy of 7 but never got around to playing it much and I distinctly remember packing it away in a separate box somewhere not with my other games, so now I cant find it
>>1168805 Really none of you guys liked DW8 XL? I thought was definitely the highpoint >origins Was pretty meh. A weird fusion of empires without the strategy
>>1168805 >>1168805 This one has the cutest Xincai, so DW5 is the best.
>>1168805 I had a real fun time with origins. What'd you guys think
>>1186374 I didn't particularly like everyone's max bond level pretty much them fucking you. I like having an OC that lets you experience the story from an outside PoV but it was a bit too OC donut steel. Gameplay was nice with weapons having different mechanics.
4 with XL, or 5. The former for collecting weapons and generally having fun. 5 for a Musou mode that actually educates you on the characters. I was lucky to pick up 5 as my first taste of the IP. >>1185392 8XL's Lu Bu campaign is quite a ride. I like it just fine for its gen.
jsus christ i just discovered after years that dw5 has a body guard type that can heal you holy shit that is an absolute game changer
also what is your favourite battle? Ive always liked Guandu even though im not a big wei guy. the sense of scale and the castle defense aspect always gets me, and one of my earliest memories with the series was playing DW2 Guandu and getting completely overwhelmed and literal fighting to the last man with just me and cao cao left on the entire map dw2 also had my favourite iteration of yellow turban rebellion. that giant hill with a million archers and the intense wind impeding your movement was kino . im sad my dw2 disk got scratched to chit and no longer reads
i recently replayed 5 because it's the one i had as a kid and it was epic. then i installed 8XL on anon recommendation and i haven't even played it a full hour. why do i have 2 weapons? seems gay. played the demo of the new one and it was fun/
>>1168805 I really liked 5 Extreme Legends because of the Destiny Mode
>>1187605 That and his music >>1187903 Chi BI >>1191258 Sorry anon, but I prefer 8XL to origins
I am barging in here to ask a Hyrule Warriors question since it's the only musou I've played. Apologies if it's long winded, there is a tdlr. I almost failed a new stage on Normal last night because there was so much shit happening and I only had one character to use, which was my level 12 Impa (for reference, Link and Cia are at 30 after I replayed some earlier stages with them to learn attack strings) The pace was near hectic at times without any companions. Allied Base is being attacked by two camps chucking boulders at it, three captains are sending bombs from the north and --oops you killed the bomb before the next dialog suggests killing the captains to control the bomb, oh well-- and now a friendly NPC is screaming for help in the opposite direction, from a camp I'm not sure is worth recapturing. Meanwhile, Darunia has run down the mountain and is attacking the Allied Base and I fail if he clears it out. So many things going on, and I wondered if aside from knowledge of the map my level was making it worse. The campaign explicitly does not list level requirements or recommendations for any of its stages so I don't know if it scales up or down. It's tough to tell when the keep bosses generally die in 5 hits regardless of who I bring. Should I be grinding XP on characters that I haven't used yet but will need for given campaign spots lest I have them vastly underpowered against things that are now tuned up to a theoretical suggested level? tldr do I, as a person with less than 15 hours of playtime, need to care about XP at all while advancing story or is that for the optional side modes
>>1199592 -is that for the optional side modes Thats optional. Obviously unless of course you level 1 in a level 30 dungeon. As long as you follow the main missions like not let your main commander die you should generally be fine.
>>1199682 Thanks for a quick response. I just needed someone to tell me that I don't need to level up all these characters first, I started the campaign on Easy but now I'm doing Normals for first clear to better educate myself on what the battlefield should look like. Getting weapons has been slow and steady since only the most recent story missions are giving good stuff, I don't really understand the Smithy set up yet but it costs too much rupees to take things out of slots and I only have 150k total right now. I've played games with weapon combining before and in all of those, it's not something to do right off the bat anyway. The difference between 104 attack and 150 attack hasn't yet made itself obvious when the mooks get cleared out with a single combo.

Hyrule Warriors
>>1168805 Haven't found good sources for pirating the more recent titles, and by recent I just mean 8 and 9 + their Xtreme and Empires versions, I've been fucking around in 7 Empires on rpcs3 with Wang Yuanji and I think I'm in love with her. On my first playthrough I made an evil woman tiger mom custom character and worked under Dong Zhuo and then right when we were about to conquer Yuan Shao's final regions I rebelled with my sworn brother and husband and took over the entirety of his territory so I could finish the game as a ruler and be super evil.
>>1187707 I don't remember it being particularly helpful over breaking jars or visiting bases to find food items. Tried it out for a little while but switched back to a bodyguard who can actually fight instead.
>>1168805 Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 When the fuck will it get another game? even a PC port of one would be great
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 The enemy AI would actually try to screw you over if enough mobs of the same type got together for a special attack Also agree with >>1206431 When is the next DWG?
>>1168805 It's probably due to the fact it's the only one I have a physical copy of (but not the only one I've played of course), so for me it's dynasty warriors 4. I put so much time into that game levelling up characters, custom characters, unlocking all the items and secret stuff, near maxing the levels of those. That game was a good time for me. >>1185392 >Really none of you guys liked DW8 XL? I bought it a few years ago on steam, and I guess I wasn't quite feeling it. The game just felt too much like what I already played on the ps2. I did have a recent resurgence with ps2 emulation and playing some older DW entries, so I have been meaning to try DW8 again.

Where is the Final Fantasy Atelier Xenoblade Super Robot Wars Warhammer Neptunia Touhou Tales of Star Wars Pokemon musou?
>>1206710 I'm more surprised there isn't a musou for all the popular Shonen Jump >Naruto >Dragon Ball Z >Bleach >My Hero Academia We already got multiple One Piss
>>1206710 2hu would be great, SRW is kinda gundam
>>1206710 Neptunia got action spinoffs that play like musous. I definitely would play a final fantasy one
>>1206762 The only thing running through anime game developers heads is muh fightan shit sucks
>>1206710 atelier gets to be guest characters in warriors orochi/all star/abyss i guess
>>1206762 DBZ musou wouldn't make much sense outside of a few scenes >Bardock vs Frieza Army >ESF vs Frieza Army (RoF) >Goku and Piccolo vs Cooler clones (Cooler's Revenge)
>>1168805 these games peaked in the ps2 era 4 is my favorite
>>1168805 >best That's a huge range, but I'd have to say hyrule warriors was the peak of the entire musou franchise, in dynasty warriors itself I'd probably argue either 8 or origins >personal favorite 6 and berserk musou. I'm sorry but i love those two. 6 was my first and I spent ages 100%ing it and that final what-if where you play as lu bu against every faction in hu Lao gate was pure kino.
Personally 8XL is the best. Also we need a new Warriors Orochi. I actually really liked 4's story where the main focus wasn't Orochi himself but introduced new pantheons.
>>1226715 I fucking hated it. I don't want another animu sloppy take on Loki or Zeus or what the fuck ever. It's a cross-over game. They should focus on interaction between characters we actually know and bought the fucking game for - like Warriors Orochi 1
>>1226715 >>1239839 I did find it funny how it is a direct spit in the face to every factions established religion and beliefs to just include all these random Greek and roman gods without much mention of the gook or jap gods
4 + expansions and warriors orochi 3 ultimate
Honestly? Samurai Warriors 5 was good. I like being able to use different weapons without switching to a character I dont really like. The new movesets themselves are nice too. The stronger aerial attacks and charge attacks that have you hold or mash buttons are a nice addition.
>>1240836 Too many clones killed it for me. And I even liked the art style. They could've remedied it with DLC or re-releases but didn't.

>>1168805 4 was my first DW game, and probably the only musou game that really stuck with me until now cause the voice acting was hype as fuck (to a 15 year old in 2004). The cast wasn't as strong in 5 imo and that made me tune out of the series for the most part. I played 3 like five years ago and had a great time, and it's obvious that the devs and the localization team had a lot of fun making the game too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTxRdTJRdHw
>>1168805 One of the Empire's games. Those are really the only ones I still play. XL games are ok too though. I haven't tried Origins yet. I have the demo downloaded, but I haven't got around to trying it. >>1329034 https://archive.is/6S78F
>>1168805 Oh, after DW Empire dropped, I never looked back, but for a mainline game, I really like DW5 as I had a crush on Xing Cai and it was good, er to what would befall her. But I do like DW 7 or 8 that had the Sima Zhou's wife, Wang Yuanji. It's DW Empire games that I go back to.though.

>>1168805 3 and 3 xtreme legends had the best retards 4 Had the most soulful voice acting. 5 had the best dating sim style introspective for the characters you played at. Samurai Warriors 2 was the best dubbed shonen Objective truth is that they're all dogshit kusoges because the engine is extremely awful and never got changed. It doesn't work a good 60% of the time. Died so many fucking times because the enemies could attack while unrendered or attacks would just go through them because their hitbox didn't exist that it get exhausting.
>>1329071 >I haven't tried Origins yet Its not that great after awhile. Especially not for that price >>1168805 DW8 XL >>1240836 They look too damn young
Multiple people in this thread have said Hyrule Warriors. It and Age of Calamity are the only ones I've played beyond demos, but I didn't like the demos I did play of some older ones. Maybe you just can't experience the depth of the series from a demo, though. What I like is the mild strategy elements mixed into the combat. So my question is if you guys who actually know about the series would say any compare well to Hyrule Warriors and Age of Calamity. I am mega autistic for Zelda, but I enjoy those two games so much that if others come close to matching them in terms of combat, strategy, level design, character variety, and sheer amount, I think I'd enjoy those games quite a bit. Are any others close to as good?
>>1676757 Dynasty warriors 8XL complete edition and Samurai Warriors 4 DX SW4 has better Combat/Strategy Dw8 has more level design and character variety and more emphasis on character stories Both games tend to interpret real life/fictional strategies as well as the overall history rather loosely given that its a game. But flanking/cutting off reinforcements/holding strategic locations and why you are being asked to do those things are discussed. SW4DX also has create a character with movesets that are tied to weapons from other characters. Regardless the answer would be to get this shit on sale, especially since koei is still selling it at full price with $22 dlc for old ps1 style costumes. Lol lmao kiss my ass koei. If you pirate you know what to do. I also recommend watching some videos and checking and asking again here which one you intend to get seeing how nonsensical some of these titles can get.

>>1168805 I like 5 for its Destiny mode. I unironically like 6 because I love the animations of Zhao Yun's moveset, renbu hate be damned. I like 7E because the fame system gave you more customizable, but 8E has the roster/weapons. Strike Force was interesting in that it felt like a wuxia game with the flying and aerial combos. But my actual favorite are the Gundam Musou and I like each one for different things and because of how suits change (for better or for worse) in each iteration.

>>1676917 <But my actual favorite are the Gundam Musou and I like each one for different things It's the writing, isn't it? (Gundam 1 was a bit very basic but 2 was pretty good at patching up the jank. 3 feels really nice from what I've played up to now.)
>>1677558 1 is definitely because of Domon/Milliardo/Puru and because God Gundam is my overall favorite. Gundam.
