Ship management games? Anonymous 04/22/2025 (Tue) 23:06:25 Id: e48b5b No. 1218391
As title suggests do any of you know of any games like FTL? I'd prefer it focus on ship to ship combat but I'll take what I can get.

starsector?
>>1218391 SPAZ and SPAZ 2
>>1218420 The artstyle is so shit you can insert any headcanon and be right. I choose to believe in mantis thighs

Would you consider Homeworld in that category? Considering you are basically just controlling one really big ship and everything else in the fleet is an extension of it.

I apologize profusely.
>>1218391 Starsector unless it has to be 3d. You manage a crew of ships which you outfit to your choice.
>>1219167 Kings do not need to apologize anon.
>>1218391 >As title suggests do any of you know of any games like FTL? Void War, available on itch.io RIGHT NOW as a playable alpha/beta for $15(USD), or very soon (TM) on Steam as a complete game with an increased price. The developers intend to let the pre-release purchase on itch.io be transferable to steam. Steam also has a playable demo right now, and i will summarize the game play as this: If you told Games Workshop to create WarHammer40k game in the style of FTL and actually do a competent job at it by 1:1 copy what works and then add more fun explosions and body-parts on top of it. Changes compared to FTL include: - a very large permanent crew on your ship (the UI includes a scroll bar and reorganization by click-and-drag icons) compared to what FTL allows - equipment! weapon, armor, tool, and spell slots for all permanent crew, depending on crew type (ex: the "machine slave" crew only use the tool slot, but the "legally-distinct-space-marines" can use the weapon and armor slots.) - spell casters that can produce utility or hostile effects on either your or the enemy ship, which meshes well with ship modules or equipment to create interesting concepts for ship builds - Shields are nerfed, and this works both ways for you and the enemy. and the developers know it, and have used it accordingly. - temporary summons, including special ship components (FTL's cloning bay) that can create infinite temporary crew of different types automatically, both defensively and offensively. - teleportation exists, as well as boarding sleds that shoots loaded crew at the enemy ship (that can have a ship module to create effects on impact) and summoner spellcasting that bypasses shields, and ship weapons that force abductions of enemy crew and basically the game wants you to drive closer so you can hit them with your fists. - the massively grindy and gamey proficiency/skill bonuses of FTL are gone; all crew are expendable except the captain (you) and you'll not need to exploit enemy ai to grind stats - the impetus to crew-kill EVERY enemy ship is gone! the ships that have actual bonus resources have moved that bonus into a locked vault object on board, which means IF you can board the ship, you can loot the vault for treasure and then either continue the fight for the full benefit or evac and leave with partial gains. - developers have promised actual modding capability so expect a lot of crazy shit from the community, assuming you want to deal with potential discord trannies until the steam workshop is setup.
>>1221592 Looked it up and it looks like such a shameless ripoff its putting me off. Even if it is good I can't imagine getting past that.
>>1222101 terrible mentality. > this MMO hotbar UI design is putting me off because it looks too much like the WoW hotbar UI design when a game uses what works, you fucking steal it and adapt it for your own. now if the game had a major problem it decided to leave unchanged from FTL, then that would be a valid complaint. which, in fairness for following my own example, is also how limited the dialogue boxes are. there are definite stat-checks and RNG dogshit dialogue boxes in Void War just like there is in FTL. including that god awful "You lose one of your crew at random, beyond your control" event/dialogue box. empty sector? you do nothing at all beyond the default healing from rest. but then, there is the ability to mod that out.
Bomber Crew has a "Space Crew" version but I haven't checked it out. Didn't get too far in Bomber Crew either because of the lack of pause, and also the thick bong humor.
I'll post a list of games in this genre I found, I'm not including some of the F2P ones since they have been dead for years: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1176710/Space_Crew_Legendary_Edition/ (This one is very good.) https://store.steampowered.com/app/464920/Surviving_Mars/ (good game, but the AI is very poorly coded) https://store.steampowered.com/app/979110/Space_Haven/ (It's rimworld but in space) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1380910/Stardeus/ (Highly autistic rimworld) https://store.steampowered.com/app/335620/Star_Traders_Frontiers/ (Awful balancing.) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1857080/The_Last_Starship/ (This one is very high up there, still gets updates) https://store.steampowered.com/app/2530080/Cyber_Prison_Management/ (It's very flawed due to the duel experience, the dev said a while ago he wanted to make a sequel but 3D) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1218500/Galactic_Mining_Corp/ (The most not-FTL experience, but has many features of FTL and the successors to it.) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1252390/CyberHive/ (If you want Anime and a more VN experience) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1712110/Deep_Space_Outpost/ (Good game, but didn't get many people due to other games like it being released) https://store.steampowered.com/app/2187340/ExoColony_Planet_Survival/ (needs more time to fix some bugs and to ad new features) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1324270/Space_Station_Tycoon/ (Fits the most if you want to do a Star Trek DS9 type game) https://store.steampowered.com/app/799600/Cosmoteer_Starship_Architect__Commander/ (Insane amounts of depth) https://store.steampowered.com/app/320340/Cosmonautica/ (FTL with some improvements and many flaws) https://store.steampowered.com/app/280360/Interstellaria/ (released almost unfinished years ago, but is still enjoyable) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1062000/Starmancer/ (Still in EA but fairly decent)
>>1222949 There's a difference between "stealing what works" and plagiarism. Just changing up how the room layouts are presented would've been enough but they didn't do that which comes off as they didn't have an original thought in their head. Might as well just play FTL mods instead of paying for what looks like a glorified one. And again this is entirely on vibes. I'll check out the demo but I definitely wouldn't pay for this.
>>1225268 They've got a Mad Max crew now too
>>1218391 There is a massive mod for Rimworld called Save Our Ship 2 which adds actual shipbuilding, ship management, ship combat and boarding.
>>1218391 Starcom Nexus.
(6.69 MB 6926x5150 Slug.png)

>>1253492 Very fun mod but it's got some optimization issues that compound up until the save is unusable. You also lose pretty much all incentive to go planetside again after you have your ship entirely built out short of RP reasons or it getting blown out the sky.
Artemis Starship Bridge Simulator, but only if you have a friend to play with.
>>1375096 SoS is a post-endgame mod so it makes sense. You're suppose to build the ship on the ground and use it to escape the rimworld. Then you can load it up at another planet if you choose.
Starship Patrol is stuck as a DSiWare game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Lt20oI3gnY
>>1218391 For some non-space games, take a look at Barotrauma & Sunless Sea which has more of narrative focus. If you find Sunless Sea interesting, pirate it, because key devs were ousted from the company afterwards, and they went on to found Weather Factory (Cultist Simulator, Book of Hours). Sunless Skies goes to show that they were key devs because, apparently, that game's not very good.
You left this pretty open, so I'll suggest Pulsar: Lost Colony, which is basically FTL but (mostly)multiplayer and 3d. https://yewtu.be/watch?v=AENwIX76xvM&t=93

reviving this thread to talk about Void War i like it but goddamn is it annoying to lose your boarding team to random bullshit or even bugs
