So, is it really good?
I dunno. Fitgirl repack is not out yet.
>>1249809 rutracker is your friend
>>1249675 Graphics are great and the beginning is very emotional, which is hard to pin down. The french did it well, in my opinion. Also, Maelle on Expert is raping my ass really hard. I think i have to go with Expeditioner difficulty considering mobs will have hit patterns you need to memorize and i dont want to get wiped every other random battle.
>>1249960 How well does it run on (You)r hardware?
>>1250102 i play on DLAA, high with Epic textures and get 60fps 1080p. But im playing with Lossless scaling since im fortunate enought that my 3060 12gb is not smearing and ghosting the game like lossless does for some others.
I just finished the prologue I can see why people are hooked. Then again, these games usually fucking collapse by act 3 so I'll see.

>find a hidden beach area >have to play an only up style platforming challenge to win a bikini outfit >comical steel-drum beach version of the depressing main theme plays in the background >doing this right after one of the main characters just died game's great
It's a lot of fun so far. Play it.

I think I'm finally getting bottlenecked by my 10 year old CPU. Game's pretty good but I have random sound desync and framerate drops when I'm trying to time an attack or dodge can wreck a boss fight.

I can finally play it today but I'm playing thl too...
>>1251310 That's what Asians look like to most of us, you're never going to see a Kanna Hashimoto looking Asian character in a western game.

I'm just 2 hours in and I like it. I saw a few references to other JRPGs in the prologue (Estelle, the trash can guy, probably a bunch of others I'm missing too) so looks like the devs are actual JRPG nerds. Combat is like HSR but you have actually more than 2 buttons this time, and the parry/dodge makes each encounter engaging. Although for JRPG standards the dodge/parry window is a bit unforgiving.
>>1250429 looks like it has vaseline smeered all over it. Do you have chromatic aberration on?

The Paintress was just holding off an even more destructive entity, the true cause of the Gommages. She paints life, he paints death. The numbers were just those she could save from him That entity? The Curator, and the original version of Alicia's father. He played you like a DAMN fiddle Also the entire goddamn setting you interact with for most of the game is a magical painting world created by Painters in some kind of war with Writers in another dimension, and both Maelle and the game's Verso are creations based on the real Verso who died saving the real Alicia from a fire after the Writers somehow used her against the family We're reaching levels of Being Final Fantasy that shouldn't even be possible
>>1252043 That sounds retarded. I don’t know if I want to keep playing now.
>>1252059 It's fucking weird, but I sure as hell am still going just to see everything through to the end. At least the game isn't telling me to go back to living in a wheelchair because escapism is unhealthy. Granted it is kind of frustrating to know that any mysterius about old Lumiere and the mysterious catastrophe in the distant past are just mommy and daddy coping about a vague tragedy in their past

Watching some of the footage it looks like either the lip syncing in general is garbage or they used the french dub to sync it for some reason. All the english dialogues look off. So which is it?
(24.59 KB 680x615 1742834318909126.png)

Is Gustave supposed to be a shitty buff bot? His parry damage does like 4x everything else lol

I'm enjoying it, exploration and fighting the optional enemies has been consistently rewarding. But the parry window seems so tight it's pissing me off, and I think the plain cutscene direction (camera, editing) undermines the good English dub
>>1252461 I said it before, but unironically most of the difficulty comes from the enemies doing fancy twirls and lightshows instead of having consistent telegraphing.

(3.53 MB 1920x1080 Demineuuuuuoooooooh.png)

The Demineur is a man of taste.
>Final boss after the Curator, when you decide the fate of the painting by playing as Verso or Maelle and fighting the other. Yes that's right, the tutorial fight with Maelle at the beginning of the game is also the final duel you have in a sense because Gustave/Verso is the same kind of idealised oniichan archetype. And all this is even possible because Verso has found out he can interact with the vestige of the real Verso's soul, who is the actual reason why the Painting is sustained and the cause of Alina and Renoir fighting over whether the painting should stay/go. Verso wants Alicia to leave and start healing from grief, and Alicia wants to stay in a world where her face and throat aren't mangled, to keep the painting alive and to be with onii-chan. And Verso knows after their fight, Alicia was bullshitting to her dad about being able to quit the painting any time she likes >Choose to play as the gruff untrustworthy traitor and the Painting ends, all your friends forgive or at least extend understanding to you except Lune who just kind of sulks outside the room. But the painter family finally mends bridges, and even with her scars Alicia has the chance to move on and make a life of her own with the memory of her Painting friends cheering her on >Choose to play as the idealistic imouto with anime white hair and a last minute asspull powerup that literally lets her do more than 9999 damage and who just led an army of resurrected expedition members to glorious victory that is constantly pleading with said traitor to stand down and talk things through during the fight, and Verso dies first begging Alicia to end the painting for her own sake, and then begging for death because the last thing he as a vestige of the real Verso wants is for his little sister to waste her life away in the painting forever as a living lie tying her to it. But instead, Alicia is so mindbroken by lack of onii-chan that she resets the painting's reality so Verso as Gustav gets to live a full life. Verso/Gustav senses this is fucking wrong but sees a vision of Alicia's mangled eyes from sustaining the painting, and ultimately just goes along with it in utter defeat Absolute kino. This game made the point FFTA tried to a thousand times better than the original.
How is the gameplay? Is it completely balanced around parrying or can you unga your way through with good teambuilding and equipment preparation?
>>1252579 I'll be honest with you: In my experience you can unga bunga the first third of the game, but once you get to the turtle you MUST parry 'n punish. Everything hits too hard and has too big a healthbar to just tank, and Defense/Vitality just doesn't ramp quickly enough.
>>1252594 Damn, that's what I was worried about. I think new Yakuza games have it right, where the perfect blocks reduce the damage by ~30%, instead of fully negating it.
what's with these attack animations?
just realised I'm cooking french for dinner yummy coincidence
Lune my lawfully wedded wife
>>1252636 Lune is based for raging against hypocrisy, lies of omission, betrayal and ultimately the destruction of her world even though it was the objectively correct outcome.
Is the deluxe edition worth it? it's just 1 costume for each person?
>>1252677 I wasn't blown away by any of the costumes, so I'd say only if you really want to give away your money to the developers.
>>1252273 He's a decoy protag. He gets killed so they never bothered making him actually good.

So is this telling me what attributes to boost or what? It looks a lot like dark souls weapon scaling
>>1249675 It has good presentation and makes an effort to deliver an emotional story. Everything else about it is mid. The design is bad, the combat is unbalanced between rpg mechanics and trivializing everything with parries.
>>1252945 Maelle is supposed to be a red haired white female but they had to make her an weird fake tan orange goblin with black eyebrows and the shade of auburn old women have to dye their hair Call me crazy but that's what's happening here. White humans being censored from media
>>1252945 How fucking sad is your life
>>1253012 Faggots will get baited into the bad ending though.
>>1253660 >get baited into the bad ending Literally how? You have to take Maelle's side at a point where she is clearly having a codependency melty instead of honouring the strong selfless white man simulacrum Verso's wishes and incidentally beating her up in a fight while her Painter powers are presumably exhausted from fighting her daddy and reanimating all those expedition guys as smoke zombies
>>1253660 Nevermind, I mistook your use of "faggots" as colloquial. Actually yeah if you're a fucking idiot who doesn't pay enough attention to the plot, you will in fact be tricked into Maelle's lotus eater trap that fucks her over the hardest out of anyone.

500k copies sold. Massive success!
Probably a really dumb question but what is character customisation in cutscenes? If I disable it I get the intended vanilla story right? I only ask because Maelle is wearing what looks like her DLC outfit, the mime top and pants (I'm barely into the prologue though).

It's not a matter of me pressing the key too early or late and eating the hit, I press the key and there's no animation or anything and the party just stands there and takes the hit. >>1254467 >dev's debut sells half a mil in a day Love to see it.
>>1254516 Out of 10. Also damn she cleans up well, she must be rolling around in dirt or something in Lumiere. I find it funny how the game never actually explains how the fuck Painter powers work, they're godlike JRPG endbosses in the painting but just guys with a weird astral projection trick outside it. Also they just casually drop that there is some kind of civil(?) war going on betwen Painters and Writers, and that her nee-san thinks she can win it solo if she has to
>>1254467 Oh fuck, the fucking ex is the painting's version of the older sister isn't she?

While the game is intentionally a melodrama and presents more overt bits of drama and theming too, I think these small details nail a non-idealized approach to grief and a known end of life, as well as piercing the coping strategy of turning the Gommage into a celebration of the people disappearing rather than a dour affair, which on some level everyone knows is a farce, but it's still necessary for those still here afterward.

I will buy the game if it isnt pozzed since I recently finished Romancing SaGa 2 and saw the trailer for this game, the visuals look suprisingly nice, its kinda weird. Like sorta realistic but also stylistic and cool, dunno how to describe it, kinda gives me jrpg vibes.I have a few questions to any anons who are playing. 1.Does this game have hot women and men? I didn't like playing as a twink gay boy in Lies of P for example 2. Is this like left leaning frenchie propaganda? Am I going to be told by the Frenchie's that immigrants are good and diversity will save humanity? Old way bad, new way good, post modernism le good. 3. Ive only played traditional jrpgs, SaGa 2 was my favorite this year so far. How does the real time parries work? It seems odd to me to have reall time parries in a turn based game. 4. Is there any jiggle for the tiddies and is there any sexy skins to unlock? 5. I see people calling this game a jrpg (its western though not Japanese?) I'm confused why.
>>1258104 >1.Does this game have hot women and men? Is this like left leaning frenchie propaganda? Am I going to be told by the Frenchie's that immigrants are good and diversity will save humanity? Old way bad, new way good, post modernism le good. No. Actually its the opposite: themes and atmosphere seem to be fairly anti-modernity. At last so far. >3. Ive only played traditional jrpgs, SaGa 2 was my favorite this year so far. How does the real time parries work? It seems odd to me to have reall time parries in a turn based game. Yeah the parries are kind of tough to get used to. Start out with dodging until you know the attack patterns. It absolutely keeps you engaged though, because on the tougher enemies you will wipe in like 2 or 3 hits if you fuck up your dodges/parry. >4. Is there any jiggle for the tiddies and is there any sexy skins to unlock? Not none but not as many as I'd like. We'll see what updates we get. >5. I see people calling this game a jrpg (its western though not Japanese?) I'm confused why. It's a jrpg but made by frogs because the Japanese mostly want to make DMC knockoffs now. Someone had to do it.

the difficulty is fucking bullshit normal is way to fucking easy and hard is completely unforgiveable where you can one shot by normal mobs which would be ok for me if you could reset fights in an instant but all the animations and walking is getting tedious for anyone who is past arc 1, does it get harder or should I ramp up the difficulty?

>>1258252 I've had trouble with some games in the past but I guess I'll try this time and see if it works out

>>1253854 The niggers are only in the prologue. The one nigger who goes with you is immediately killed. All the women in your party are attractive white women. Compared to much of what I've seen from France it's outright problematic in the eyes of leftyfags. Zero niggers at all would have been preferable but zero major nigger characters is a noticeable cultural shift what what we've been getting. Plus the women being conventionally attractive. I'd definitely consider it a shift in the right direction. It's worth a pirate, I'd say.

My Maelle has an assload of crit and uses the weapon that applies burn on crit so the target is always burning, giving her even more crit and ensuring that she can constantly get right back into Virtuoso stance. If anyone has trouble fighting the chromatic hexga being fucking invincible you basically need to spam as many shots on his left crystal when it says strange power emanates from it. I had to google to find out the mechanics since the game doesnt tell you anything from hitting it once, once you shoot more than 3 times it actually says its weakening. >>1264253 Her damage seems to fall off compared to the new guy which can get good crit and damage at low health, which you can easily get to with a powerful mark attack that uses up health. The piercing skill is good but since its capped at 9999 it depends on how lucky you are with shooting+ 20% mark to get max damage out of it. I just unlocked sword ballet but it takes 9 ap to use, I might reset the skill tree for the fire skills instead since I dont want to turn the new guy into an AP vending machine.

I'm on expert, and I pumped nearly everything into Agility that I take multiple turns in a row. I should probably start putting stats into something else...maybe defense? But for right now, I need to force myself to stop and eat something. And I thought Sciel was fucking dead by the tree just before Lune found Gustave.
>>1269979 there seems to be some nice tummy shots in this game
>>1269871 It had that for one day and it fell VERY rapidly as people realized it was shit. Dragon Age was a huge IP for years, anon.
>>1269897 I legitimately thought people who can't parry would be gatekept by the later half of the game even on normal because of healthbar bloat, but it sounds like you've found a way to make Def and Vitality work even though in my experience you WANT to parry if you can just because of how much easier it makes carving through bosses. But yeah, once you learn to parry you're feel like a god.
I'm assuming there's some people rushing the game who also made it to Act 3, what do you need to do to make damage stop capping at 9,999? There was a popup right at the start but I thought it was automatic and I can't beat any of the new enemies.
>>1269979 >maybe defense Probably want a little at least, but my advice is Luck for most party members. >>1270018 I thought it said that I unlocked it, but I'm still hitting the cap. Do I need to progress the story further? I kind of wanted to do more side content.
this is so true, as discussed in depth in that one Mads Mikkelsen movie where the whole movie was about this concept, great movie >>1269948 holy shit it's beautiful, can't wait
>>1269979 nah Agility is great man, speed is always the God stat in turn based games. my Sciel uses her default weapon and it's all pumped into Agility + Luck and she does BUKU damage I also thought that was Sciel dead on the ground in the pile so seeing her for the first time was great cause I fell for her in the prologue lol
>>1270061 nvm I'm an idiot it's a Pictos
I may be too retarded for these paint prisons. Also people were having trouble with the parry system but I think they should just dodge more the game even suggests it. The timing of the parry/dodge is kinda hard. Turning down the music a little helped, going by sound cue seems better than relying on visual because some of the attack animations are crazy weird.
>>1274640 It definitely feels like Elden Ring or one of the newer soulslike games with how much parry-baiting the animations have.

>>1274987 just keep at it you'll get the hang of it soon. what's probably throwing you off is delay on some attacks to parry bait you
>>1275010 It's just weird because I don't usually get filtered by games that require fast reaction time. I just don't see/understand when I'm supposed to hit the button. I might just change to easy.

The UNIVERSE in which the TOURNAMENT will take place, will be *GULP* LOCALISED ENTIRELY ON TOP OF MY STUDMUFFIN BROTHER'S COCK?!?! And FURTHERMORE you are going to MINDBREAK me into creating additional EXPIES of the three of us to GET BRED by him?!?!? So what you are SAYING is, TOMORROW he COMES inside of YOUR CERVIXES instead of MINE??! And EACH these BLASTS will HIT your VAGINA WALLS and make you CONVULSE in PLEASURE?!! You REALLY mean that there will be HUNDREDS of STRONG GALS ALL riding my brother, AT THE SAME TIME!?!? And WHEN ONE FALLS, YOU'LL ALL CONTINUE, ENSURING that these EXPLORATIONS go on INDEFINITELY?!?! IF someone HAPPENS to get GOMMAGED, they will get RECREATED in front of my BROTHER and then he will be FORCED to inflict a critical COUNTERATTACK on her WOMB!? WHHAAA--??!? THERE'S EVEN MORE?!?! I'm NOT going to be ALLOWED to stay in the PAINTING?!? INSTEAD you are going to send me back to my FAMILY, SCARRED, MUTE, and telling my sister to ONLY allow my to view the CANVAS when you're all being IMPALED?!!? And THEN, you will rope in in the WRITERS into your conspiracy, FORCING me to not just watch my brother PAINTING you with his cum but also reading LOTS OF HIGH QUALITY FANFICTION ABOUT IT?!?! So I will be TRAPPED in my CRIPPLED BODY, GASPING for AIR to speak WORDS I can't even PRONOUNCE, while being TORMENTED by the GUILT of my true BROTHER'S SACRIFICE?!?! And I will be LEFT and ABANDONED there, LOCKED AND TRAPPED IN my hideous PRISON of a BODY for ALL ETERNITY?!?! But the ANGUISH will in fact AMPLIFY the PLEASURE RECEIVED to UNKNOWN HEIGHTS?!!?! GIRLCUM will be FLOWING OUT OF ME like a RIVER and EVENTUALLY I will PAINT my own CANVAS with my JUICES?!!? And THEN I'm going to be FORCED to DRINK it ALL, while forced to LEARN FROM THE ONES WHO CAME BEFORE on my brother's shining sword, only allowed to LAY THE TRAIL for THE ONES WHO COME AFTER on my brother's mighty blade?!? Does Dualiso stay good on Verso through endgame or does it end up turning into shit? Between that and the picto that causes you to attack twice I generate a shitload of AP to do that big 8 hit skill he has on turn one.

So, yeah. Also his combos are a bitch to parry.
>>1283370 Dualiso gives the 4 perfection too just at lvl 20. I like it because it generates AP insanely fast with the dual melee attacks and then you can push your rank way up with a multi hit skill. I suck at parrying anyway.

>>1289531 yeah she was at a table with like a dozen bottles of wine and said she'd drank all of it Lol. fell in love all over again, 10/10 knockout babe marriage material. there's good reason she was drinking that much too but don't want to spoil her Relationship quests >>1289537 so true. guess hanging around Alicia for so long accidentally rubbed on them. to be fair he might have taught some past expeditions too buuuuuut probably not since those expeditions didn't bring along you-know-who

>try exploring more of the map and challenging random chromatics after done with old lumiere boss >all of them take little damage >there's FLOATING chromatics which only take damage from aimed attacks Kinda pissed the game seems to want you to not fight these guys now until way later when you could easily kill them before in earlier acts. I tried the area with the chromatic ballet and the basic enemies were easy as fuck except the bullshit boss
>>1289816 All of the super hard bonus bosses the game warms you about are meant to fought once you can break the damage cap. Otherwise they're just slow slogs.
One of Maelle's outfits is literally cosplaying as Gustave's dead girlfriend. What did Alicia mean by this?
>>1289892 At this point we should be commending Alicia for exercising tremendous restraint by not just having Gustave be an ephebophile who was constantly pounding her tight teenage body and modifying his mechanical arm with customised dildos or something.
>>1249675 i'd expect more coomer designs considering it's french and they're making a jrpg. nonetheless it looks like Persona 5 without the style and im still glad they did well enough for themselves to prove that they don't need Tencent pumping numbers for Ubi to be successful

>>1290578 I'm using Jarum until Lithum unlocks. Yes it has def scaling but it also has crit scaling and it's real good. >>1290608 I used cheat engine. I'm not ashamed. It's simply jank and bad.
>>1292186 Probably something stupid as usual. They're review bomb games similar to Japs when they find out an idol isn't actually a pure virgin maiden.
>>1292186 I thought chinks were only allowed to play 2 hours of vidya a week. Who the fuck let them on the internet for people?
>>1292186 >>1292307 Looking at some of the reviews, it seems to be the plot they don't like? All the negative reviews I looked at brought it up. I don't know if the Chinese translation is bad or what. One of the funnier reviews loosely translates to >The story is very bold, very hip, very French, and very deserving of a bad review
>>1292186 It's their patriotic duty. That game is overshadowing chinkblivion. Or so they think.
>>1292584 Considering that the chinks love power fantasy self insert stories, something about tragedy and not having that would probably make them mad, yes.
>>1292606 Simply existing as a mainland chink is a tragedy so maybe they get enough of that irl.
>>1292186 Maelle is too old.
Can anyone give me some good Act 2 builds for the characters? No spoilers please. I've basically just been crutching on Maelle with that sword that starts her in Virtuose stance and that's worked so far honestly. I also have been using the Lune weapon that gives +20% damage while rotating through elements. That's pretty much all I've been doing.
>>1292924 get maelle's an aoe and single target skill. multiple hits are better. Then stack all the % damage pictos on her. Give her very high speed so she can go first or give her the first turn pictos. There now if the battle has multiple enemies use the aoe and they all die, if it has one use the single target abilty (multiple hits) and they die. Sciel also does great for single target multiple hits but it's harder to get her damage to damage cap but she can still do over 9k a single turn. For Lune use lightning dance and buff that, it hits often and crits deal double.
>>1290355 https:4chan.org may be more your speed
>>1292945 Yeah, that's pretty much what I've been doing. I have the +damage pictos on everyone and they all have at least 1 aoe, and I've been using the skills that give AP back when I feel it's necessary. I thought maybe there were secret super synergy builds I was missing.
i went and bought a copy from fanatical, 40 dollars sounded cheap enough
After a long time away I've resumed my French lessons on Duolingo so maybe my lovergirl Sciel will keep letting me be her sidepiece of fuckmeat >>1292924 use Verso in A2. his expensive skills are extremely good and overpowered at for that point in the game. >>1294360 I feel like Monoco is the only penis haver in the game worth having in the party.
>>1294382 lol hard to disagree. my party for going through NG+ is Maelle Sciel Monoco and it'll probably stay this way forever. kept trying to use Lune for a while in endgame normal but just couldn't get into her, felt too clunky, in a bad way. Monoco is clunky in a super fun way
>>1294429 I like Lune, she's usually in my party, but I'm still in late Act 2 so I'm not sure if she'd be any good for ng+. I've been taking the game really slow.
>>1294429 Is it just me or is it easier to parry with Lune than other characters?
>>1294558 no doubt you can make her really good, probably by using mainly the Lighting and Fire spells and that one AGI/LCK weapon with Lightning perks. I tend to just prefer swordplay type characters anyway, so Maelle is like my ideal combat char so she's my big hitter, and Sciel buffs her while looking sexy as shit >>1294570 did use her a lot in the beginning and do remember learning to do it really consistently with her, so hey maybe there's something to it. probably just mental though, something to do with her parry animation

>>1294602 >something to do with her parry animation I'm still early game because it turns out my gaming PC has been mysterious clogged up with dust so the game just fucking dies after a few fights, but I have noticed I reliably jump the gun with Gustave while Lune just does her little flip and kills whatever reliably. Honestly not sure if it is psychological, I do genuinely feel like she has a more generous parry window but I have put more agility points into Gustave so-eh.

Parrying in this game is more difficult than in Sekiro. The Paintress is unironically a more difficult fight on normal than fucking Isshin.
>>1298569 There's mods to increase parry windows if you want. They come in several flavors.
>>1298569 I just killed the 2nd axon yesterday and while I did it on normal I might just put it down to easy for the paintress. At this point I just want to lift the damage cap so I don'r feel like banging my head against the wall learning another boss moveset. I'll git gud at that fight in ng+
How the fuck do you get the Young Boy in Yellow Harvest to talk to you? I have talked to him with every character now and he just ignores me no matter who I am. Gustave, Verso, Maelle, Lune, Sciel, Monoco, no matter who I am he wont talk to me, and he's the only one in the game so far who refuses to talk to me. They normally say something before they stop having prompts, but this guy has never said anything. Will I have to come back, like, way later to get this guy to talk to me, or does he not talk to anyone?

>>1300495 It's gonna be a long, perilous climb to the peak from the floating sea huh? Damn putting Maelle in my party has me feeling like the game has finally begun, she's poking enemies death that the other two were struggling to kill with their skills. Gustave is such a shitter compared to the women.
>>1301305 yeah Maelle is amazing. don’t want to spoil but as the game goes on, it just sort of becomes quite clear that you’re supposed to be playing her. and man, that scream she lets rip when she counters, so exquisite
I wonder if the casinos will actually open later at some point in an update. Just kinda disappointed that there's 2 of them and none of it is accessible. Definitely not my gamba brainrot head talking btw. Also, very early act 3 question. Do i clean up all the map areas or can i go to Lumiere and then come back later?
>>1295794 Expedition 0 DLC sounds great. Their flags are always planted in weird areas. We already know at least 2 of the members and they're 4th wall breakers so i'm kinda curious about the rest of the members
>>1301756 Wait oh shit nvm i just found Simon, so that's at least 3. Just how roided is that group.
>>1302779 Wait, three..? I only know the last guy you mentioned.
>>1301721 not too deep into Lumiere you get Augmented Counter III which is another 75% dmg to stack on top the other two so that's crucial. but yeah once you get in there you just get overwhelmed with that feeling it's time to push to the end and see the one out of the two ending I pretty much rushed through normal mode to feel that narrative excitement and am now doing all the deep exploration in NG+. only did Relationships in normal. you take everything with you except records, journals, and quests so it just depends how you want to play the game out
Does Verso fuck both Lune and Sciel? Sciel is obvious because it says they "became more than friends" but there I didn't quite understand Lune's maxed out relationship part because I'm autistic.
>>1303568 apparently you can "romance" either one of them (only one per playthrough) but it seems most just end up naturally with Sciel because she's fucking fine and god damn that ass is worthy of walking down the aisle
>>1303649 Wait Lune's last scene changes if you choose to fuck Sciel in her fourth event? Is there proof of this? I mean, neither really matter since Sciel basically says she wants to get back with her husband since she thinks everyone is gonna get rezzed and anything with Lune will break as soon as the endings roll around because basically no one in the party but Verso wants his ending even though it's the lesser of two evils. Kind of hard to see that when the lesser of two evils means you and everyone and everything you ever knew will be erased.
>>1303680 yeah I haven't seen Maelle's ending yet but Verso's ending felt like the right choice and felt like the "real" ending, closure and moving on and such. but mentioned it earlier in the thread too, by playing NG+ you are basically becoming Maelle lol so maybe the best possible way to do it would be Maelle on first playthrough then Verso on the second while finishing and finally being done with the game.

Any recommended places/bosses to do first in act 3 to get mats for upgrading weapons to lvl 20?
>>1305899 oh yeah you definitely can. after you finish and watch an ending, it just drops you off at the last save flag right before the end. then you can either just choose to go back out and pretend nothing happened, or choose New Game+ on the flag. no pressure to do it, but honestly at that point it only feels natural lol >>1305974 not sure if there's really any dependable way to do it other than bosses and merchants in A3 normal, but I can tell you in NG+ that shit drops like rain in a monsoon
>>1306359 Did some of the endless tower and i got two of the third tier upgrade mat for beating the first two easy levels, though dualise stage is kicking my ass on expert because that stupid trumpet guy has weird attack timings and also oneshots. Also spent over an hour beating the boss in crimson forest, and this stupid asshole didnt even drop any upgrade mats other than a sword I wont use. Im definitely considering swapping to normal after beating the first two acts on expert as the fights are taking too long.

>>1309555 As an earlygame, I've lost so much Chroma by being retarded and not recognising any of the weapon names-or more importantly you have to actually switch between characters to have the Curator upgrade different shit. For fuck's sake I hate how I've wasted so many resources on that useless shit Gustave. Fortunately Maelle is still playing like a god purely through skill and Agilitymaxing.
>>1309090 It's her isekai self-insert fantasy, of course she is
I think I only have Simon left now besides some random achievements I probably won't do. I wonder if I should level up to max first.
>>1310888 Update: fought him once, I will literally never kill him, not even on easy. I'm giving up.
>>1311053 Learn Maelle cheese. You can kill him before he gets a turn.
>>1311221 I did that, but I kind of feel bad about oneshotting him with 70+ million damage. But I know I'm just not good enough to parry him otherwise.
>>1311771 This game is bizarrely unfair and fair at the same time. You're trained to fight as hard and dirty as possible early on when you can just randomly bump into encounters way above your party level, then as a result when you uncap damage you just stride around the place nuking everything with Maelle. It's so unfair both ways that it wraps around back to being fair, in the sense that other party members are a voluntary way to handicap yourself.
>>1310736 Lol, that's a good point. Games like these always has some sort of legal cheese one way or another. In any case, i just beat him with semi-cheese. I did parry all of his non-zoomzoom attacks (i give up trying to parry them, 2fast4me and not worth it) for what it's worth and got their pattern down. Stendhal kicked in so hard during the second phase, i didn't expect that lol. I fully expected to see the third phase but that's alright.
>>1311771 Remember anon, we're the 66th expedition. It's only natural that we fight without honor at this point. Except Expedition 60. God bless those glorious bastards.
>>1310745 Didn't his upgrades carry over? I didn't quite pay attention back then. At least, that's my assumption. Just feels like an oversight otherwise is all.
>>1312607 Having spoiled myself they do yeah, I'm still mildly pissed off because there is literally no reason not to run Maelle forever going first and oneshotting nearly everything (especially after you pick up the Pictos that literally lets her go first forever AND get an extra turn with high enough agility at the top of the ledge near the cliff entrances. That shit's like early access to Cheater) then using Sciel to whallop anything that dares survive (and occasionally Lune to proc Maelle's strongest stance with fire) is if you enjoy not exploiting enemy elemental weaknesses and having to add a mandatory turn or two to getting things done for some reason.

Me on Monday morning.
>>1316344 Even though they are very different games, I liken the experience to Kunitsu-Gami: Fantastic art direction, fantastic music direction, plot is simple but well-executed, gameplay has some issues but is tolerable if you enjoy the genre. In Clair Obscur's case, the genre is turn-based strategy with a sprinkling of QTEs and there is a much steeper difficulty curve than Kunitsu; whatever the tutorial says the game doesn't truly start until you've unlocked Sciel at the Gestral Tournament using Mael specifically, and until then you are basically crippled against lots of the enemies and forced to learn2dodge/parry. Dodging/parrying in this game is a complete crapshoot. Some enemies (but not all) have audio cues you need to time your active defence RIGHT AFTER they finish, and everything being so fancy means it's very unintuitive to figure out when the latest rock monster is actually about to hit you. Unlocking Sciel and Maelle is the equivalent of getting woodcutters in Kunitsu-Gami. You are now a real man who can park Gustave's useless ass out of the party forever and let the overprotective clingy women do all the fighting. Maelle will oneshot almost everything at the start of the battle (especially if you find the Pictos at the cliffs that always lets her go first), Scielle will kill nearly anything that survives. I know at least one guy on /v/ who invested in a meme 99 Agility/Luck build for Maelle, but in my experience on your first playthrough while you SHOULD prioritise those attributes, a balanced spread is preferable. And remember: Maelle is the main character, the focal point of your party's offence. One last tip: Game likes to have free-roaming high-power enemies. This is because if you're playing correctly i.e. powering up Maelle, Sciel or Monoco and Lune in that order (human men are for the bedroom) even before clearing Act 1 you will be able to rip and tear through many things that would have killed your whole party earlier. I cannot stress enough how important Agility is for simply going first and unleashing your strongest attacks/debuffs right out the gate to win momentum of the fight. Blatantly unwinnable shit like Golgra and that one big guy wandering the seas is meant to challenge you after you've cleared Act 2, whereupon Maelle gets a spoilers-heavy powerup that gives her godlike power both in and out of game.
>>1315686 Image quality looks rough because I play without AA and stream to my Steamdeck. There's a Volumetric Fog and Fog are separate ini settings, but disabling the Fog settings apparently breaks some environments in the game.

So what was the deal with Goblu? It felt like it was a setup for something but it went nowhere ...unless i'm missing something
>>1315986 You fucker! The twist is pretty god damn good. After bashing my head against the Paintress for 2 hours, I can finally get into the third act
>>1317343 I guess it's just a hint that some-not all, not even most, but some-Nevrons can be friendly/neutral questgiver NPCs. Since it's established Clea was helping her dad win by attrition through inventing Nevrons to murk people without releasing their Chroma for Aline to recoup and Aline is the one fighting to keep the Painting alive, I guess at some point either some Nevrons went off-mission just like how Verso eventually decided to end the painting for Alicia's sake. OR given what the first friendly one said, Aline eventually tried her hand at making some allied Nevrons who go around trying to pretty up the place
>>1317587 Ah i was under the impression that the whitevrons are just nevrons that gained their own will. I forgot which one but there's one in particular that after we helped them, their speech becomes retarded, despite being otherwise when we first met them. So the less of an anomaly they become, the less self awareness they have, but it's the only one i remember being like that. Might've be an isolated case Also on the latter theory, the white little bourgeon claimed that the one above is the creator, but is a regent (the regent being painted Clea), so real Clea is still the one who indirectly made the whitevrons. Maybe the Goblu was on the process of becoming white before our interruption. My memory is goldfish tier so cmiiw
>>1317913 Understandable. The worst part about trying to dissect lore in the game is everything is literally a painting co-created by a bickering family so ultimately there's no point in questions like "how does a Pictos actually work?" or "what was the Lampmaster's job?" or "what was civilisation like before the Shattering, in-universe?" because everything can be handwaved as a manifested fever dream and Clea shows that a sufficiently skilled Painter can literally paint over someone else's creations.. Everything is a whimsical French childlike fantasy you're supposed to let go of so to a certain extent, shit being whimsical but meaningless except insofar as it reflects the major family's emotional turmoil seems to be kind of the point.
Luna says "Let's spill some ink" during fights sometimes, is it a reference to writers? I mean they were painted with the writers as an imaginary enemy in mind? Just assuming because of the ink part, I think Maelle also says something similar.
>>1251182 >>1251199 Lune looks like Sandrine Holt to me.
what's up /v/ros. i'm finally starting the game. i plan to start at expeditioner difficulty(fitting name). can i increase the difficulty at a later time in case i do not find it challenging enough eventually or it sticks through the whole playthrough once i select it? & maybe drop some quick tips while you're at it?
>>1319839 You can change the difficulty whenever you want. It doesn't even affect achievements it's just about personal taste. As for tips I'd say use dodges to figure out enemy timing before trying with parries.
>>1319839 I think expedition is pretty difficult at the beginning, while lategame entirely depends on your build. Personally, I couldn't figure out dodge timings at all and felt like parrying is more telegraphed so I did that, but maybe that's why I struggled.
>>1316738 Doesn't look too bad but I think I prefer the fog for what it adds to the atmosphere of the environments

>>1317929 True. I still feel a bit sad
the canvas' world has ended. But now that we have some established rules of what an Artist can and cannot do, and their limitations, I'm kinda curious if we're going to a different canvas for the next story installment, or if Alicia is gonna paint a Verso-less copy of the canvas. But a part of me also feels like they're going to turn the steering wheel really hard and give us a whole new story and cast barely or unrelated to the Dessendres, since they're also done aside from Clea's war.
Also, i liked that the theme of letting go is also directed to the players. Sort of reminds me of FNV's Dead Money.

>>1315597 >No idea where to get the actual mod I posted about this in the gg thread >>1329575, but posting this here too if anyone wants to know. According to the Maelle thread on ATF, it seems that there are two patreon modders modding Maelle at this time, FrancisLouis and Irastris. Both have their own patreon and paywall their mods, they don't release them for free. The first guy already released their mod, but it's supposedly a little off and seems like a rush job, the second guy is still working on theirs. One of these modders supposedly reached out to ATF moderation and asked them to forbid users from sharing their mod in the ATF thread, the moderation complied and forbade sharing the files there. Someone in there posted about a russian gaming/filesharing site called playground.ru having the files for the first mod, I looked it up: https://www.playground.ru/clair_obscur_expedition_33/file/clair_obscur_expedition_33_golaya_lune_siel_mael-1767034 >I would much rather have a mod making her swimsuit lewder than actually nude. >>1330011 I used Maelle cheese so he never got a turn. Up to you if you think that's cheating or not.
hey /v/ros i'm at the "ouh" nevron. due to being slightly spoiled i know if you let all the white domineurs live you get either a lot of character upgrade points or a special weapon near endgame. however upon reading ign it said i can still get the endgame reward if i give the mine to the demineur then kill it. can any anon confirm? or maybe i should let it live to play safe?
>>1330064 Not sure what the cheese strat would be. I haven't looked up any guides at all so I'm unsure what pictos beside cheater would cheese him out.
>>1330192 >>1330192 Stack every possible damage buff on her. All the pictos that will buff her damage at start, virtuoso stance, mark, roulette, everything. Then use Stendhal. That will kill Simon in one hit as long as you've stat'ed Maelle and have her weapon maxxed. And win your coinflip with Roulette.
>>1330237 >and have her weapon Nta and just curious, you using the one she can earn from the Gestral tournament? I'm at Sirene and I've never had a reason to swap. Starting in Virtuoso >>> anything any other weapon can provide, so far.
>>1330532 No I use Lithum. Changing to virtuoso on counter is even more free than starting with it most of the time. It doesn't have shitty defense scaling. It has an element nothing is resistant to and some things are weak to. It doesn't remove mark in virtuoso stance. There are a ton of ways to get her to virtuoso stance easily. For instance using cheater and last chance. That's only if you want the immediate nuke, though, for a fight you absolutely want to be over in one turn. For normal fights I usually stack energy and open with Gustave's homage since that also switches to Virtuoso, usually firing a shot first to see if I get a lucky mark.
>>1330237 thanks for the tip. I can't seem to get Sciel to start first to get the mark on, but maybe its an issue with their agility
>>1330656 You can always give her "start first." Otherwise you can try and apply the mark with "marking shot." If the first turn is setup with last chance anyway then you can use all your starting AP to try and get a mark.
>>1330656 To piggyback off what that other anon said, the 'start first' picto (forgot the actual name) doesn't seem to take the speed stat into account. If your entire party has it equipped, the person who has been in the active party the longest gets to go first, so you can choose who goes first if you just edit your party a bit.

Anyone else ever feel like a game is made just for you? I've wanted genuine attempt at adapting the classic style of overworld RPGs at a modern scale for years and didn't think I'd ever see it. Adding dodging to turn based is also something I've wanted too, but it's only been done in a handful of games before. Last games that made me feel like this were Dragon's Dogma and Mirror's Edge.
I'm curious what people think about how influential this game is going to be. I genuinely can see a wave of "pseudo-turn based" combat like in this one, similarly how this game adopted a lot of things from From games, inserting those things into a different genre. It's a huge success with an innovative combat system enjoyed by both turn based fans and haters so I can see it becoming more widespread in the upcoming years.
>>1333570 More than anything I want it's dev size and scope to be influential. The gameplay is fine but I don't want a million dodge and parry turn based RPGs. There's nothing wrong with turn-based games without timing mechanics.
>>1333570 I hope the main takeaway is that there's a market for short RPGs and pricing your game reasonably instead of charging $80 for it. Don't think I can play any more games with a similar system. I was already getting tired of the combat in act 3 when I was doing all the optional stuff.
>>1333570 More than the battle system, I hope devs understand at least the benefit of focused pacing (which I think is the game's biggest quality) and how you can in fact transcribe the structure of older games in a modern format Most likely though they'll learn the wrong lessons and just try to out-From everyone but it is what it is (tm)
>>1333570 I feel like the bigger reason it's so popular isn't the combat, but that fact the it's a AAA-tier classic RPG. For a lot of people, it's the first time they're experiencing this kind of game in a form that isn't retro. This is like what Final Fantasy games were for people 20 years ago.
>>1333383 >Last games that made me feel like this were Dragon's Dogma The lack of a new dragon's dogma was why the lead dev decided to make this game
(2.03 MB 1920x1080 Screenshot (725).png)

Gustavebros I don't like the way she looks at Verso
>>1333383 Funnily I feel the opposite about this game. It's very much not the usual sort of thing I play, I typically prefer something that tests my reflexes, minimises exploration, and has more of an element of risk over strategy. Armored Core 6 is closer to the platonic ideal of a game made for me. Instead, this game managed to be so damn charming and compelling that it hooked me straight out of my comfort zone into trying something I am frankly shit at. I'm about to challenge Visages and I still suck at parrying, but I'm definitely seeing at least one playthrough to the end.
Finally beat the game. Best JRPG since Chrono Trigger and FF7. I would have said that it's a better JRPG than FF7 if it hadn't been for Expedition's third act and absolutely awful last dungeon. The third act has a lot to do and is reminiscent of FF6's second half, but it just doesn't feel as good as FF6's. And I think it's mostly due to FF6's larger cast and getting to know them better, whilst CE has very little to do with the story or characters besides Maelle's tower and maxing out the character's friendships. >story and characters are the best >writing humiliates every other JRPG out there >combat is the best >OST is tied with FF6 >art direction is sublime, I'd say it beats out Toriyama and Amana's artwork >pacing is great in act 1 and 2, but falls off of a cliff in act 3, way worse than CT, and worse than anything FF7 or FF6 have to offer It was still an amazing journey, and it will hopefully lead to game studios hiring competent writers. Who am I kidding? Of course we'll just keep getting woke shit and garbage writing. Verso ending > Maelle ending. That's escapism, it's not healthy! My party setup was gun/basic attack Verso. Started him out with the double attack lightning sword, swapped him to the burn sword in act 3. I used Lune as a support bitch with Typhoon and giving out Powerful/Shell/Rush and a bunch of +AP on heal. Used Monoco as the party's bitch due to the fact that I stacked all my lumina on Verso and Lune. He started pulling his weight once he got the Endless Tower boss skills and the weapon that gives a stacking dmg buff on using bonus skills. My strategy for Simon was to put break on death on Lune, stack speed on everyone, and abuse Monoco's full break gradient skill + double burn on activating stun + powerful slow. Even if someone died, my team was fast enough that Simon couldn't remove the corpse. Took less than 10 pulls on Expert.
>>1335981 >art direction is sublime, I'd say it beats out Toriyama and Amana's artwork When playing I thought that this is the closest we've ever been to getting a Final Fantasy that's actually in Amano's artstyle.
(58.67 KB 286x323 d86.jpg)

>>1336094 Act 1 was just *chef's kiss* mwah. Delving into the unknown, barely any information, the surreal yet beautiful landscape complimented by the soundtrack while also juxtaposed by the fact that death comes quick and easy, the corpses of previous expeditions (and some of yours) was proof of that. Everything out there was out to kill you, even the Gestrals can beat the shit out of you and cave your skull in out of ignorance. Plus, even Esquie indirectly offed an entire expedition too. I was getting heavy Made in Abyss atmosphere, like fuck me man i haven't been so immersed in a game's setting for quite a while. And boy did i make sure that i took my sweet time during Act 1 I mean, i liked the rest of the Acts, but Act 1 has a special place in my heart. Just pure adventure kino. I love Spring Meadows and Flying Waters in particular.
>>1335981 >but falls off of a cliff in act 3 I also thought it was a bit weird that when Act 2 ended we can just immediately turn back, progress the dungeon and end the game . I mean yeah the rest of the map opens up but they felt more like post-game stuff. If i didn't stumble upon and gained access to the Reacher first i would've got my shit kicked in, that place feels like it should've been included into the main story. I don't know, maybe they had to cut some stuff from Act 3, but it was servicable enough imo. Could've been worse.
>>1337631 >>1335981 It was weird how Act 3 was just a cutscene and then the final dungeon (plus a LOT of optional areas). It definitely felt like you should have had to go to a few places for plot MacGuffins before being able to go to the finale. Places like Reacher probably should have been required. Maybe Flying Manor too.

Zanzibart... Forgive Me.
>Devs release a patch today >Only thing is does is nerf Stendahl and Medalum (admittedly the second was a genuine bug it applied the double damage to everything not just burn) Why are they balancing this like a multiplayer game and not a single player game? If something is broken let it stay broken. Anyone whining about it can simply just choose not to use it.
Having beat the game, all it makes me think about are other stories you could create in this world. The premise is so fucking good its insane. I want to learn about Expedition 60, about the Forgotten Battlefield, about Esquie's and Francois' adventures with Clea, I want an Expedition RTS. I don't usually feel so strongly about lore and having to explain everything to players, but just the snippets the game delivers are good enough to warrant at least a graphic novel or something. A Expedition 33-2 if you will
>>1339270 >Esquie's and Francois' adventures with Clea You have to remember that this canvas was basically something Verso painted as a kid. So those adventures happened then they were children and the canvas was much more innocent before the shattering or Nevrons or any of that. I'm more curious about which version of Clea became involved with Simon. I'm guessing it must have been the painted one? I don't see Real!Clea giving a shit or ever in a position where she would have needed to be rescued. Not sure who painted him to make him strong though. Could painted Clea do that? So really if they were ever going to do anything Expedition 0 makes the most sense. The only downside is, of course, we know all the major plot-twists already. So it would just be context. That's why I'd rather it be DLC rather than a sequel. A sequel should probably be in a different created world. Either a painting or something by the writers.
>>1339231 Stendahl was pretty broken. I didn't use the cheese until the mid 80s, but when the highest health enemies in the post-game (Clea, Simon, Flying Manor Bosses) can get one-shotted by mark, double damage, virtuoso stance, plus all the other offensive pictos by a factor of at least 8, it might need some adjusting. Players are always going to attempt to optimize their play, and by the end, it likely this monotonous task severely hampers how much fun they are having. Its clear the game wants you to break it with how many tools they give you, but I would imagine the breakaway happens too early or too easily with Stendahl, which is why they wanted to nerf it.
>>1339270 >>1339341 The intended game breaking mechanism is obviously the Gommage, but Stendahl does 20x more damage and much easier to hit. Stendahl wasn't really an ability you used in combat, but an ability that lets you skip the gameplay parts altogether and watch the last third as a movie. Simon, for instance, should be challenging but they accidentally just give the achievement away for free.
>>1339231 It's about players optimizing the fun out of games. Your asking of the question means that you underestimate how often and how hard normalfags are drawn to looking up cheese/optimal strats at the expense of figuring things out on their own and having fun. Hell, that kind of mentality is (partially) why story mode difficulty exists.
Fuck, i just found out in NG+ not only did i miss half of the area in Old Lumiere and considerable amount of loot, i also completely missed a damn chromatic nevron AND two weapons back in NG. Oh well, at least they're now more level appropriate? In hindsight, it should've been obvious to backtrack since there's a lot of cutscene jumps in that map (which i did in NG, but i underestimated how much of the area was jumped)
the field attack doesn't even feel good normally so i don't know how the fuck they thought it was a good idea to use it for a rhythm minigame

how's the combat in this game? It looks like Legend of Dragoon with the button prompts on attack but it could be totally different idk. either way, it looks nice
>>1350771 Extremely good. There are a lot of combinations you can set up either through multiple turns or between different characters. Absolute ton of different passive customizations you can add to characters too. Obviously there's the 'classic Final Fantasy + Dark Souls' aspect to it, but there's a lot more going on. >Character that stacks build ups on enemies, then cashes them in for damage, heals, buffs ect >Character that gains elemental charges when they use moves that can be used to power other moves >Character that's essentially a Blue Mage (can transform into previously defeated enemies as moves) >Character that start's battles weak and ramps up in power depending on your actions >Character that's broken as fuck with multiple Gold Experience Requiem 'I win' moves
>>1350771 Whenever you try it, try it on the expert difficulty to really get a handle of how the game should be played. Its a little rough the first couple of hours since you don't have the health / defenses necessary for the game at that point, but it teaches you early on what you need to do in order to be good at the game. I t has that same sort of loop (at least for bosses), where you try iteratively so you can get an understanding of how each phase plays and how to counter it that actually speeds up the time to get to that point on future attempts with how much damage the parry system can deliver.
>>1350771 To add to >>1353543's point, a 'perfect' dodge has the same window as parries. So if you're having trouble with parries you can try dodging until you get better at getting perfects.

>>1369059 It's really bad in the Mansion location because of all the shimmering detail in the walls, and you can see it in the hair when against certain types of background. I don't really notice it too much anymore; maybe I just got used to it and accepted it, but when it happens, it's obvious. Unfortunately, my computer is too shit to try and alleviate it. There's a universal mod out there that can inject your own DLSS or whatever instead of the in game one, which might help, or turn it off maybe. I can't even attempt that or my laptop will melt. It's like the character is moving like they're in Symphony of the Night with the little afterimage.
>>1369059 Doesn't have an issue in most areas at all, the only place that reminds you that you're playing an UE5 game is the Manor since it's filled with Lumen. There are dozens upon dozens upon dozens upon dozens of talented people out there on Soundcloud/Bandcamp/YouTube capable of writing kickass music but most of them never get their lucky break like Lorien Testard did, or they simply do it for the fun factor and aren't interested in music career.
>>1380577 It's a shame how now most big games just use bland 'epic' music for everything. Last game I played before this with a genuinely good OST was Helldivers 2.

It's nice that you can run around the world after beating the final boss. I wasn't aware that would happen. I didn't experience any challenge since I went for the superboss first and got all geared up for it. I also entirely missed the Flying Manor, so GUESS I'll go do that now, but I'm ridiculously overpowered. The only thing I don't understand is do the painters not age while in the canvas? 67 years is a long time.

>Go in expecting an Expedition game. >Start was okay. Sophie disappearing was ehhh, they didn't build up her character. >Get to the beach, man in suit kills everyone. >WTF. Stuck with Gustave now. He's okay, just kinda mopey. >Tries to kill self. In comes best girl Lune. >Her stains remind me so much of a Kineticist from Pathfinder, easily able to clear mobs with Wildfire and Elemental Genesis. >Find Maelle. He's okay, just kinda there as a character. Fire and VIrtuoso stance are the way to go. >Find Sciel with the Gestrals. Her dark abilities are great but her character is so-so. >Fight the Lampmaster. At this point I've been grinding a bit so I'm 5 levels ahead of a mod that ads LV to place names. >Man in suit, Renoir shows up again. >"I'm doing this for your sake." He says to Maelle before killing Gustave in front of her for some reason. >Okay.. plot is going downhill fast. >Meet with Verso. He seems... shady. Don't care for his fighting style, it's just Gustave+ >Go through the battlefield. And then the snow area. >He recruits Monoco by saying there will be lots of fighting. Marvel tier dialog. Monoco's fighting style by copying monsters I really like. Jar area attacks and dark arm bonks forever stay in the wheel. >At this point I have alot of questions. Go through old Lumiere and Renoir comes again. >Verso acting strange. Get this strange feeling that's going to make me laugh. >"Blah, blah blah. Son." >Houston, Sides have launched into orbit. Have to pause game and come back. >This was the moment the game jumped the shark. >Notice the Frozen Heart, a LV-60 area. >After a few tries, parry my way to victory against the first mob of Danseuse. Get 500k XP and 5 levels. An hour later I have half a million Chroma I by all the Lumina from a mod that gives 999 in a store and am LV 60. >During the Old Lumiere part, Lune comes across Expedition 58's log, mentions an Axom but the game doesn't actually say what the expedition log was nor what an Axom is. >Kill two of those I suppose. >Then goto the Monolith. Keep going up. >Get to the second stage boss fight with the Paintress. >VERSO PULLS OUT THE FLYING ROCK TO GIVE TO ESQUIRE. >"Hey look what I found, lol". >Beat Paintress, game over, now Maelle is Alicia or some shit. Writers and Painters mentioned but what they are hasn't been mentioned in the context of the game yet. And that's where I am. I was expecting a good RPG adventure. What I got was, excellent music, art directions, monster design and even the combat I grew to kiling once I can steamroll people (Golgra will get what's coming to her). The story and characters however, are a millstone around the game's neck that drags everything down. How does this have an overwhelming positive review on steam is beyond me. >Pic 1 is me in Act 1 wanting to kill the Paintress. >Pic 2 - 5 is me becoming more confused as the story went on. To eventually the start of Act 3 and I have no idea what's going on anymore. Also, why can't I kill Verso. >The writers for this game were the game's director and some unknown female writer who has only 5k followers on instagram. https://www.mobygames.com/game/241065/clair-obscur-expedition-33/

>>1472993 >Last conversation with Maelle Verso has is that yes, he did let Gustave die because he feared that Maelle would not want want to leave the painting. >After his 5th conversation where he was angry that Maelle didn't give him time to say goodbye to painted Alicia after Maelle turned her into flower petals. See what I mean by the writing. It really is that bad. >Renoir, we've both lost so much. Yeah, with you killing Gustave for no reason. Notice how Verso is silent during this cutscene. >Verso jumps through the portal. "I'm sorry." Worst. Fucking. Character. Seriously, how can anyone like him. >Lune sits at the portal, not wanting to go over to Verso. If anyone could make it out of the Canvas somehow, it'd be her. And he kicks everyone out of the Canvas. Shit ending. I need a drink. This has been one of the worst stories in an "RPG" I've experienced in awhile. Having come off Lost Odyssey before this, that game is 17 years old and has a much more compelling narrative about family and grief. Even the most basic story in Thousand Years of Dreams wipes the floor with this. Yet, E33 sold well because it attracted another class of gamers, those that unironically love Baldur's Gate 3. And mediocrity gets praised. There was another review that said it was a girl power game and thinking about it, Gustave has no personality, Verso is a whipped little bitch, Sciel uses him for relief and the big bad is the Patriarch of the family that has schizophrenic motives. Yeah, it is. Personal review, don't play it. I spent a week or two on it and it wasn't worth it.

>>1480466 Painted Renoir killed Gustave, not the actual Renoir. Renoir didn't have anything to do with it. Maelle also lost a lot during her 16 years in the canvas as everyone around her would die each year from Gommage, and also losing actual Verso. The Verso and Painted Alicia thing, I don't know why you think that's bad. Verso's motives have been the same forever, which is get Renoir and Aline out of the canvas by whatever means necessary and having them destroy it if possible. Being angry when you lose someone close is normal, but Maelle points out his hypocrisy during that conversation and he comes to terms with it.
