Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 2: Remaster Boogaloo Anonymous 04/25/2025 (Fri) 09:35:59 Id: d751c8 No. 1252570
Dar-Ma on the front page.
Getting a fresh install ready so I can try one final time to get it properly and consistently working for myself with a couple different tweaks + tips I've seen I know it can, there's just something bungling it in the background as I play
>Be me >Hate OneDrive >Uninstall OneDrive as the first action I take upon installing Windows >That was years ago >Be today >Oblivion Remaster is eating my life and I love it >Microsoft is angry with me for uninstalling OneDrive and hiding their pop-ups >They reinstall OneDrive through Windows Update >My 10 hour save of Oblivion Remaster is gone Fuck this. I'm going to either Linux or Playstation. How does the PS5 Pro run Oblivion? Is it at least upscaled 4K at stable 60 FPS?
We won
Disintegrating enemy weapons doesn't work properly. Instead of dropping broken weapons, enemies lose the ability to attack.
>>1252935 >playing the nublivion You lost
>>1252935 Nice. >>1253057 Also true. Also, did they fix conjuration? And does Mannimarco's new design look cool?
I see anyone playing on master difficulty using a one-handed sword + shield. Is everything else that much worse?
>>1253068 Blunt gives you a weak shield upon heavy attacking. Blade gives your enemy weakness upon power attacking. It's really just a choice between being more tanky VS killing faster.
They keep trying to say all the original gamebyro systems are there and still working but I'm absolutely confident they are not. In the original game I never once walked into a room and saw every single character spawn out of the same corner all at once, knocking props everywhere as they all scrambled to find their intended positions. And the NPCs just freeze up entire after saying rumors to each other instead of walking away and obeying their normal schedule. There's a very real possibility that radiant AI might have been gutted entirely.
>>1253174 >radiant AI might have been gutted entirely Oh gods no. What am I suppossed to do when John Oblivion doesn't eat his carrots at 9pm?
(136.40 KB 900x1282 Xena and Gabrielle.jpg)

i found the console key on AZERTY keyboards, it's the bottom left key near "Maj" ,it's the > < key, the one with the two arrows going in the opposite directions.
(440.19 KB 1920x1080 20250425112016_1.jpg)

What did they mean by this?
also conjuration seems to be the play early game in Master difficulty, the basic skeleton can rekt the enemy in like two or three hits and bring the aggro on him.
>>1253274 after the horse balls in R2D2, Todd added the horse pussy in Oblivion. next, the horse dick in TES 6, we are progressing slowly but surely towards radiant AI having horse mating scripts in the wild.
>>1253245 Well if it's they case of them not eating then you couldn't assassinate that one dude stealthfully with the poisoned apple, which would be a pretty huge issue if your characters built for an assassin
>>1253294 *It's the*
>>1253276 That was the way things were in original Oblivion as well. The difficulty slider made your personal damage lower and the mob health/damage higher. Summons were counted as mobs. Effectively, a summon will perform the same across all difficulties because they scale the same way the enemies do. I question the point of playing on higher difficulties at that point, but you do you.
(169.68 KB 276x600 276px-10-full_promo.png)

>>1252930 Shouldn't have uninstalled OneDrive, silly anon. Next you will tell me you accidentally uninstalled Cortana. How could you be so careless? Don't worry I will put it back on. Oh, and I saw someone put a malware on your computer, called "Grub', don't worry I removed it for you, now your computer will start Windows much faster. Don't need to thank me, all I ask is for you to never leave me.
So what's the verdict on the remaster? Is it worth the asking price or just more of the same with a new coat of paint?
>>1253316 I would unironically be more attached to Windows if they added an AI anime girl to talk to. As it is, I'm looking for alternatives because of Onedrive.
>>1253276 Poisons, summons and making enemies fight each other with illusion spells are uneffected by difficulty.
>>1253320 This is unironically my GOTY 2025. Completely worth t to me, but it's completely determined by your attachment to Oblivion as a title.
(2.09 KB 66x72 Read!.png)

>>1253328 Sorry, best we can do is either a paperclip or a dog.
>>1253320 it's more than a coat of paint, people talk about the poor performances but you just need to lower the settings and possibly use DLSS and you're good to go, lowering most settings doesn't even lower the quality that much. people always forget how poorly the OG game runs, and personally i have more performances on the remaster with an I5 13600K + RTX 3070 + Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD + a 3440x1440p monitor than i ever did on 1080p lmao. i use a mix of high/medium/low settings with DLSS on quality and i run at 60+ FPS outdoors.
>>1252930 Deserved for playing this garbage instead of modding the original.
>>1253245 You do realize those systems were the only thing that gave these games their niche and level of success, right? You're going to seriously disregard the biggest reason I'd ever even touch a Bethesda game over countless other games that satisfy that same niche. You're fucking retarded.
>>1253356 Running the game on a system with an i 7 11700kf and RTX 4080. Everything on Ultra, Lumen Hardware off, Lumen software High. DLSS Quality. Locked 60 FPS.
>>1252930 How can a person be so bad at computers? Seriously consider jumping in front of a train, retard.
>>1253462 Should mention I have a 4K monitor.
>>1253471 next time just mention the resolution you run the game in instead
>>1253476 Yeah, but if I do that people will say that running DLSS isn't running 4K native. If I say I have a 4K monitor while running DLSS, it's understood that it's upscaled.
>>1253496 What are you so afraid of? What happened to you?
>>1253514 Half-chan /v/ happened to me, anon. Half-chan /v/ happened.
>>1253548 don't go back when it eventually comes back, none of you have to go back
>>1253320 It might be worth the price fully optimized. I can tolerate the Unreal frankenstein's monster of an engine if it was half the size and didn't run like frozen shit on everything but the absolute newest hardware.
>>1253567 I might not, if I'm being honest. The hack showed me that other outlets exist, and with how botted half-chan was, I kinda don't see the point of returning. I'll poke my head in to see if they make changes. I know that for a fact. I don't think I'll stay there, though. This place is less botted and more social.
>>1253597 This place had far more traffic during the beginning of gamergate, it was great for years.
>>1252570 My computer can't run the remake, but I pirated the GoG version just to try it for the first time, seeming that the game became popular now. I try for a vanilla playthrough, went straight for main quest objectives, but one of the add-ons was close to the main objective, and it basicly gave me a free castle (Battlehorn) for "killing" a few maraduers, most of whom wiped off each other with spells and arrows, and by the castle man at arms (one of those died though). It's kind of retarded, or the game have extremely low value for real estate. Also havent seen any oblivion gate (know of the existence of those from Skyrim), is there a quest trigger before those start appearing, and is there any point to delay with that (without too much spoilers)?
>>1253631 >is there a quest trigger before those start appearing Do the main quest. The trigger is one of the early main quests. You'll know when.
>>1252930 get a console retard, you're in over your head
>>1253631 First, if you're running a character with swords (Blade skill) you should go back and search Battleborn Castle. There's a candle on the wall that you can activate to open the basement area and there's a secret sword there. Second, yeah. Oblivion gates don't start showing up until after you get through Kvatch (Main Quest)
>>1253646 I found my save. It was in the non-OneDrive documents folder. When OneDrive reinstalled, it changed the symlink to the OneDrive folder, which wiped the Steam Cloud save. I have it. I just don't want to have to make physical backups.
>>1253316 At least you'll go down with me October this year, cunt
>>1253328 You can ask Copilot to address you in a tsundere manner, though sometimes you might need to butter it up a bit before the lobotomy stops making it think that's unhelpful and unprofessional.
>>1253274 When will there be a centaur girls mod?
>>1253721 I have ChatGPT Plus, so I can just load it up if I want to actually talk to an AI. Right now I'm using it to draw broken ass images of My spouse's character hugging my Orc.
>>1253338 Ok, but can it be a *sexy* paperclip?
>>1253067 >And does Mannimarco's new design look cool? He does look like a legendary necromancer now, yes.
What will come first? A proper non-Reshade color correction mod. Or sex?
>>1253779 Lover's Lab is already hard at work porting the old mods now that we know old mods can get ported to the Remaster.
>>1253787 It's really strange how the game doesn't support mods, but it does support mods under the hood.
(1002.99 KB 1024x1024 003_001.jpg)

>>1253787 ???? How would that work? I mean, the sex mods for oblivion were meant to look "good" on the original gamebryo models, they want to slap old gamebryo models onto UE5? Uh? I'm very confused.
>version 0.4 on the pause screen ???

is there a patch yet to fix this awful ghosting?
>>1254371 this https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/35 plus switching to the latest dlss version + preset K in nvidia inspector sorta kinda made it better
>>1254439 nice, gotta try that. thanks
Why has no one posted what they look like yet
Probably been asked a ton already, but is it genuinely worth playing? I keep thinking about buying it but it just feels a bit like fomo what with all the hype. I'd be playing on ps5 if I did

I just wanna know if you guys use dlss sharpening because at 100 the grass looks really weird. It also tanks the fps a bit but that’s not an issue for me. I’ve been tweaking with the setting for a while now and I think I prefer the sharpening being at 0 after all

(reply to previous thread's posts, sowwy) >>1245139 >>1245163 I still don't understand how two engines at once are supposed to be running, or that Unreal is a "graphical wrapper" around Gamebryo. My first instinct is that they ported the OBScript interpreter into Unreal and maybe various definition files (items, NPCs) are also parsed directly - that would make more sense to me and would seem both like a good alternative to converting every script/config/text data into something else (which would be a custom format anyway) AND it would be easy for outside people to conflate that with "oh it's really two engines at once".

god im hungry
>>1254703 as a noncoomer i'd still like a Better Bodies. there's zero notion of tits in this remaster and every female has those tiny manboob mounds that modern audiences love.
>best melee race is redguard >can only get them to look like a jeet at most now Anyone managed to make a good looking redguard yet? Or are folk just playing what they like?
seems someone finally ported a mod with a new building and new interior cells, now someone needs to modify existing NPCs and add new NPCs and new NPCs with new dialog and quests https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/640
Which era was the best?
There are times when it looks generally very high end. In certain caves, in the Oblivion gates, or nighttime vistas in the northern area. Those will just look very good to most players, even if it's just normal features of UE5 being used.
>>1255017 with r.fog 0 it generally looks pretty good, but it makes water reflections wonky
>>1254978 Damn, we're getting the interregnum in real life ???
>>1255029 Francis may have been the reason this franchise was stalling for a decade. Let's wait and find out.

(173.11 KB 1169x1021 gold.jpg)

This game is insanely foggy
>>1255126 I still remember the first big mod I played was this weird dungeon/questline where you had to fight through this massive chapel style dungeon filled with pretty anime girls, and it was barely translated and you were trying to get to some “white wing” little anime girl. I did the whole thing in the berserk armor. Oblivion really shaped a lot of my tastes now that I think about it….
>>1255144 Four arms
>>1254918 Yeah I agree, we need Better Bodies and an overhaul for character and NPC heads/faces, mostly Khajiits and Argonians plus some elf NPCs. Basically the same shit you needed for the 2006 original, kek.
the lake rumare ring quest is still bugged
It took a good few hours for it to "click", but I'm having a very good time now at level 15. ReShades are practically essential because default lighting is kinda ass May install a mod to change difficulty of Expert mode - Adept is too easy and Expert is too tanky Gonna complete Mage's Guild and a few Daedric Artifact quests tonight i think Anyone know a good method of hiding the HUD for screenshots?
(957.92 KB 320x240 1733330803185068.gif)

>>1254538 I'd say yeah since I've been having fun, but do you like Bethesda games/OG Oblivion?
>>1255236 The Ayleid reshade sucks, it's too blue.
>>1255159 I feel like a mod that tweaks the fog to be much more subdued would work better than just flat out disabling it. Some aerial perspective is good, the original had it too, but the remaster looks like permanent England or dreamy haze.
>>1255236 I can't fucking stand Reshade and I hate that using it as a crutch is normal for so many people. It never works. I don't understand how people tolerate it. You can do the same thing by jacking the hue and saturation on your monitor but you get better framerates from that. It looks good in the ONE scene you set it up for and everywhere else it will look off. Go in the sewers and take a screenshot. I want a proper color correction mod.
>>1255261 LOW ENERGY AS FUCK, IT'S OVER
I feel like this is the only game I'll make an exception to using frame generation with since it's slow paced enough for me not to notice all the bad things about FG
well after about 15 hours i'm turning the difficulty down. I like enemies being tankier but I am so sick of being one-shot by some spell or arrow fired at me from a distance. It was fun for a while, I suppose.
>>1255262 Well I like it, so checkmate. They did an update that's less blue and looks a bit better in interiors >>1255271 Does ReShade fuck with frames? Havent noticed any hits but I only played for like an hour before putting it on. Personally I prefer reshade over sticking with the dry-ass color tone of vanilla - though a color correction mod is definitely ideal
>>1255210 Works on my machine (I spent an hour looking for those SHIT fish)
how do you see spell required skill lvl? how do you unequip/unsummon bound weapon to grind conj faster?
>>1255271 >I want a proper color correction mod. same, i refuse to use reshade, it's just ass
>>1255338 You see a warning if you are trying to craft a spell that you can't cast yet. Note that the game is retarded and will fail to do this if you have multiple effects on the same spell. Spell exp now scales with mana cost, you no longer need to powerlevel by spamming weak shit. You also level up from all skills, so feel free to restart with a more sane class choice if you where planning to summon storm astronachs at level 1. The the game still has a wait function, take wild guess how it interacts with a conjure dagger spell.
>>1254563 In most game sI use it at 66% but at this one I like it better at lower levels. Try 30-40%.
is it now 64 bit instead of 32?
>>1253647 They definitely show up before Kvatch or even Weynon Priory. Unfortunately.
>>1255240 Yeah I've always had a soft spot for Oblivion, from what I gather though it seems pretty true to the original, whereas there was a lot of criticism for remasters such as Demon Souls or SotC. My main concern was how similar it is to remasters such as those but I've not seen people complain nearly as much as those remasters
>>1255528 It's oblivion with better graphics and more sensible leveling, by which i mean leveling your skills and attributes, level scaling is just as silly as it was in the original. Melee also feels much better with the added hit reactions.
Do I want to give Microsoft and Todd my money, which they totally deserve in this day and age for all of the things they do that definitely don't piss me off constantly, or get the new Frog RPG Claire Obscure Expedition 33 or whatever its called?

>>1255236 >Anyone know a good method of hiding the HUD for screenshots? I use Unreal Engine Unlocker. Basically a photomode mod with freecam, hud hider and a bunch of other features. Also works as a surrogate reshade since reshade gives me insane mouse drag/stutters/whateverthefuck.

>>1257257 do you have one that doesn't limit the game to 32-bit? if not, i guess i'll pirate the unreal slopgine version then, no sex mod kind of sucks but it's better than crashing after a few hours playing.
Is there something wrong with durability? I'm having gear breaking from fighting a single enemy here.
>>1257314 You have an AMD GPU Just load up Linux and play the original through Proton-GE. You won't crash. Ever.
>>1257321 Armorer is a VERY needed skill early-game. As you level your armor skill (Light or Heavy) your gear will start breaking slower.
>>1257366 It's intentional? I basically need to repair my entire kit after each enemy.
The vendors gold balance doesn't go down when I sell them stuff. Is this a bug or did they change this? I don't mind just curious
>>1257406 That's normal
>>1257393 What difficulty are you playing on? >>1257406 That's normal. Vender gold is static and only controls the max price they can buy items at. With a high enough mercantile skill you can "Invest" money into their shop to make it go up. Late game items will easily murder the base 500g shop sell max once you get into spell crafting/enchanting/late-game alchemy where you can make potions from single ingredients.
>>1257473 I haven't touched difficulty, so just whatever normal is.
>>1257516 You'd be on adept, then. Are you still using the "Rusty" gear from the tutorial area?
Although the way he runs makes it seem like he's running like Naruto, the third-person animations are better than the originals.
>>1257521 Nope, set of iron/steel
>>1257550 The dagger animations have me wanting to scrap my Orc Two-Handed Warrior character and play an assassin Argonian.
>>1257553 They shouldn't be breaking THAT fast. Are you only hitting them once with a repair hammer when you repair them? It takes multiple hits to fill the durability bar.
(112.71 KB 722x700 751.jpg)

>>1257257 i alreasdy have the OG Oblivion though so no mods can help atm?
>>1257582 I am fixing them to 100% and they are getting shattered in the next combat.
>>1257597 No. It's far too early for performance mods like SMIM and Insignificant Object Remover to exist for the new game.
>>1257632 That shouldn't be happening unless your armor skill is at like 5 or less.
>>1252930 >updating windows You get what you deserve, retard. I bet you're on Win11 too.
>>1257642 Alright well fuck me, I guess. I downloaded a mod that triples the amount of repair hammers on the loot tables maybe that'll be enough.
>>1253320 It's Oblivion, but with a UE5 coat of paint. It depends entirely on your nostalgia for Oblivion and you feelings about UE5. I have no nostalgia for Oblivion and dislike UE5 because of its poor performance and tendency toward the generic "UE5 stock asset" aesthetic, so I personally consider it a novelty that's not worth the full price. hey guys. so, shame on me, but i haven't played the original oblivion yet, i was thinking about finally starting a playthrough and the remaster came out, so for the ones that already played it, how is it? does it lack the soul of the original or would you say its a good enough replacement for someone that never played the og?
>>1258119 If you have a machine capable of running it, play the remaster. It's like playing the original pre-modded to an acceptable degree. Even if you have to buy the damn thing on a console, play the remaster.
>>1258119 It has all the same jank soul as the original.

Could the remake Morrowind in the exact same way as this?
>>1258290 maybe yes maybe no stay tuned.
>>1258290 I highly doubt they'll bother. Morrowind would get a full-re imagining instead with cut-down dialogue, completely different UI, and hampered magic mechanics. Games like Oblivion and Fallout 3 are probably a lot easier to take this layered remaster/remake approach with since they were already predominantly designed for console audiences in comparison. The closest you'll get is downloading openmw and dumping a bunch of mods on top that smooth out combat, animations, and character models.
don't use Vortex to manage your Oblivion Remastered mods yet, because Vortex changes the plugin.txt order to alphabetically so you'll always crash on launch, to fix this (if you're crashing) there's a button on the "load order" page of vortex and hit the top button on the yellow banner "reset plugins file" and it will repair it back to default.

>>1259203 If we are min-maxing on raw stats, sure, but luck has always been kind of a tough thing to analyze, each point of luck is roughly 0.4 points to all your skills, so the thief basically gives you +4 to all skills. But individual points of a skill don't matter as much as the thresholds for the ranks and luck doesn't help there. Also that's assuming they didn't fuck with the damage calculation at all, which they could easily have shuffled some numbers around. Even a toddler can push strenght to 100 pretty soon if he makes a character that wields a sword. The only attribute you need to rush is endurance. Anything else reaches level 100 passively. To stuggle with it you need to be braindead. It's impossible not to max out your build's attributes passively. Unless you do something retarded like making a build around skills you do not intend to use, which might very well be the case since there's retards going around saying "you should level your character backwards for level scaling!". >>1259203 ehh i'd argue probably one of the magika boosters or The Lord. I'm not sure if there is a level cap, but for the most part attribute oosters seem replaceable by leveling up once or twice. The ones that provide greater powers are kinda bad. Lord provides a passive 15 armor rating and magic shield.
>>1252930 >They reinstall OneDrive through Windows Update Sounds like a you problem. I installed Tiny11 last year, updated via WU once, disabled it and haven't had a problem with anything ever since at all.
>>1259431 It's annoying only if you go OCD on it. You don't need to get +5 at every level. There's an excess of skills under any attributes, you are still going to reach 100, only slower. The only exception is endurance, you need to rise that to 100 as soon as possible. That was clearly an oversight, endurance should work like intelligence.

What exactly is the difference between Drain, Absorb, and Damage on skills and attributes?
>>1262402 iMinGrassSize controls the amount of grass that spawns. in the ini, the higher the number the less. I think the default is 80. I run at 190 and you cant really tell the difference. grasswindmagnitude set to 0.00 will make it so that grass doesnt sway in the wind. lowering shadowmapresolution will give a bit of boost with no real difference Itreeclonesallowed allows more trees to be copy/pasted so theres less unique trees being spawned and simulated Theres a lot of shit in the oblivion.ini that can be turned down that most people wouldnt notice unless grass swaying is something you reaaaaaally need immersion for. A lot of it i dont know or remember exactly what it does. Just following guides from 15 years ago to increase performance. Everyone is stuck on the engine.ini for shit right now when the oblivion.ini is pretty much 1:1 and the same tweaks are still relevant.
>>1262753 Drain is a temporary debuff, it has a set duration, then the stat is returned, Drain health/fatigue/magicka drains Max health/fatigue/magicka. Absorb is like drain, except the stat stolen is also given to the caster. Absorb health deals normal damage and heals the caster. Damage to skills/attributes permanently reduces the stat until it is healed. Its pretty rare to encounter, but also not very useful to use on enemies.
>>1262794 damage health is the best enchantment you can have on a weapon because nothing in the game is immune to it

>>1252570 >that pic >argonians again look different from every previous depiction I know it's a rule at this point but can they try to keep the design of the race consistent in more ways then them being "the lizard people"?
>>1262753 >>1262794 Oh yeah, I should also clarify that 'damage' applies the value every second that it is active, while drain and absorb will apply their full value while the spell is active. This is why when you get access to the spell maker, you can make a bootleg Power Word Kill by having a spell drain 100 Health for 1 second. If a character has less then 100 max health, they die instantly. If they have more then 100, the drain effect will wear off almost instantly and they will be back to full. Absorb works like damage when acting on health magicka or fatigue, and like drain when acting on anything else.

>>1258790 this. the only thing that could be argued to require dynamic scaling is quest related enemies. you want quests to be challenging, yet doable, so when you start the quest it should scale the enemies within that quest. yes, this can be cheesed by starting a bunch of quests, then leveling a lot, then actually doing the quests overleveled. but so what, if a player feels like he needs that kind of advantage let him have it. it's like setting the difficulty to Easy with more steps. not a real problem. in the game world there should be (non-quest) entities that far outlevel you and those that you already shit on at the start. there should be some stable hierarchy to the world's NPCs. you should be genuinely worried about going to some places earlier in the game, and you should feel really powerful in the late game. Oblivion and Skyrim's scaling completely rob you of any payoff to the RPG progression mechanics. even a Diablo / Titan Quest game lets you go back to early content with your late game character and stomp, right? why the fuck does Todd think his games don't need a feeling of genuine power increase? so much about them is set up to be a power fantasy, it feels totally out of place that the enemies always level up with the player.
>>1268397 I think the scaling of oblivion is a bit overrated. Monsters don't scale as strongly as people think, and I think most of the perception actually comes from the difficulty slider and the really weird way low level enemy health scaling works. Right out of the gate Oblivion, even without endurance as a major stat, the player is a fucking tank, with a minimum of 60 health if you make your character as weak as possible. the average NPC is dealing single digit damage, and rocking a meager 20-40 hp on the high end. the natural reaction is to crank the difficulty up, and (assuming the scaling is the same as Skyrim) fucking the natural level curve because now your taking 2x-3x damage and dealing 1/4x damage. once you get above level 5 you start encountering enemies with health more on par with the player. suddenly you hit a brick wall because the difficulty slider is a lazy damage modifier.

In fact, a spell costing more mana is usually counter productive because of the scaling cost of mana related to magnitude (M^1.28 is not linear, but luckily not expontential), you'd always be spending your mana better by just casting multiple times a smaller spell instead of a single big one. The fun factors doesn't compensate the weakness it confers at all, which just sours the fun entirely. If you want a game that treats mana as an actual resource and rewards you for using it and regenerating it, try Outward. Or just play an alchemist poisoner in Oblivion, but enjoy wasting 5 hours running between hotspots to get poisons, and another 5 hours clicking stuff to actually make the poisons.
hey, i noticed the enemy corpses now appear on the local map, at least it does in the oblivion gates, and you can even see what type of enemy it is by the look of the corpse icon !
>>1272211 Your right, but at the same time, you can just put magicka potions and welkyend stones in the hotwheel and dump your entire magicka reserve into the most powerful spell you can cast. especially since you can raise this limit by casting things like fortify magicka, Don't get caught up in magicka efficiancy debates. It isn't gasoline.

>>1268397 Hard agree. Enemy scaling is the single worst thing about Oblivion and the number one reason why I never went back to it despite countless hours on Skyrim and Morrowind. Fake difficulty aside it is completely immersion breaking to have bandits equipped with Daedric gear, when in Morrowind you had to scour the game world and/or defeat one of the most powerful (and main quest essential) NPCs in the game to acquire it. Skyrim's approach wasn't brilliant but they did improve it slightly where different areas would be assigned different zones where a range of equipment could appear. Still massively better than the godawful system in Oblivion though.
>>1274731 [doom]He said no onion in his Restore Fatigue Potion[doom]
>>1274989 KILL ME
>>1274916 Level scaling is ok as long as it doesn't apply to literally everything. Some spawns need to stay at low level and there need to be at least some spawns that are high level from the beginning. No level scaling what so ever would result in you overleveling most of the content, which would be rather dull, but the optimal solution is not to have everything be your level at all times.
>>1274989 [doom] >>1275034 this. the combat didn't age well and level scaling just turns it into whacking bandits a hundred times. i wanted them to mostly leave it alone but that's the one thing i wouldn't have been upset about them changing. It's what ruined fo76 too, they can't seem to dial it in
This missing tails thing kinda irks me I hope they patch that shit.
>>1275620 Has anyone actually confirmed that the NPC scaling hasn't changed? There has already been plenty of examples of the numbers on weapons and stats being shuffled around. I wouldn't be surprised if they fooled around with the calculations some.
>>1252930 The downside of gnu/linux is deploying mods. I got oldrim to work but could never get newrim to load right.
>>1275034 I think that's why I love New Vegas and Skyrim so much. Certain enemies are always terrifying-- cazadores and dragons in particular, though in Skyrim the type of dragon depends on if they're actually a worthy battle. Named ones are always hard from what I remember.
>>1275933 I'm doing basic ass get in the mage guild quest and random ass bandits are all geared in ebony. Nothing's changed.
>>1275933 I don't have numbers to back it up but anecdotally it feels exactly the same. Worse even now that we're not in 2007 and it's more noticeable
>>1276209 Im going to wait for numbers because honestly i looked at the og damage formulas and crunched the numbers and it didnt add up. Like most monsters dont actually scale. The spawning level change but a dire wolf is always a direwolf. The only ones that scale infinitely are top level like goblin bosses. Npc scaling is a bit different but because of hidden modifiers should drop off pretty hard at around level 5. Im not saying the bad scaling is a collective hallucination. They shouldnt have hyped up ebony as a mysterious super metal if it was going to be handed out like candy in the mid/late game. But the player anecdotes dont match my experiance and the numbers dont mesh to me.

>>1264739 It's an evolution of technology. This is more-so how they're suppose to look, a lot more like Morrowind where they all had pre-set head meshes. Oblivion was the first time they had face molding tech, Skyrim improved upon it by making the head mesh much more like Morrowind, and finally with technology as good as it is now it's was possible for Oblivion R to have the most detailed head meshes yet. Maybe in the next game we'll even have multiple head meshes to choose from, widening the range of their looks.
>>1277255 I'd suspect that people with diagnosable GID (like 0.02% of the population) probably don't care by and large, with the people who tend to make the most stink being "gender queer" types who went all in on the tranny fashion trend and now require constant validation for their fucked up decisions or else have to face the reality that they've done nothing but self-implode their life at every conceivable opportunity they had to turn it around, leaving themselves permanently scarred, sterilized, twisted mockeries of nature. It is the ultimate sunk-cost fallacy. Some of them find meaning in the bullshit "fight" for some civil rights victory, some of the seek validation from society, some of them seeking a new identity to escape some past trauma or to predate on others from a protected position of victimhood, and some of them soothe their despair by corrupting and converting others - but all of them are hanging by a thread above an existential void and looking for something, anything, to reassure them that they did actually make the right choice all along. Else there's nothing left for them but to tie that thread into a noose and hang themselves. They don't really want to be a woman or a man, and have no interest in finishing the transition if such a thing were even possible. They want to be "transgender" - always a grotesque twisted gender goblin - because that gives them some form of identity and purpose in a pill without the pain and effort of developing their own or the dread of being just another inconsequential and disposable face in the crowd of billions. It really says something when even the faggots who unleased the AIDS epidemic on the world are wanting to distance themselves from trannies, because it makes them look bad by association.

I'm still confused as to what are the EXACT level scaling changes from the original Oblivion to the Remastered. I've been playing and it's not exaclty the same but bandit and some NPC gear still scales. The mercenaries and their gear at Roxey's Inn still scale like the original like 1:1

To make Morrowind work for that demographic, you'd have to voice every line (almost certainly killing the ability to talk to random npcs and read entire encyclopedias from their dialog choices, like talking to a hunter and getting info on every single species in the game), make health and magicka autoregenerate, and change the combat system into Oblivion's because they'd get filtered by the dice rolls. >>1281949 yeah coz dice rolls make no sense in a 3D game where you can see your sword physically slicing through the enemy and it's only a "miss". it's fun in Baldur's gate but not really in an RPG with freedom of movement and no wait time for combat turns.

>>1252570 I hate how unoptimized it is, but to be fair, this is exactly what I expected from Unreal Engine
Only thing I've noticed is that if you set a FPS cap and then reboot the game, the cap won't apply until you open the settings screen once, I'm on a 4060 laptop, and it doesn't even run the fan all the time. Running on Ultra fairly stable 60 FPS as long as it isn't raining, I think there are some graphical effects and spell effects that might be more performance intensive then others. >>1283180 a pc can't "kill itself", the GPU itself is a small chip inside that's able to handle more than 100 degrees celsius easily and it has a built in security that downclocks your GPU if it reaches 80 degrees. the CPU (at least Intel ones) can reach like 110 degrees+ without dying but are capped at 100 degrees then it downclocks just to be safe. so don't worry, a PC cannot kill itself unless it's a shitty laptop with subpar welding inside (and even then it's usually repairable if you weld the trace back). what CAN kill a PC is messing up with overclocking and sending too much voltage in a part, then it might damage it if you go too far unless you push 1.72V in an Intel CPU then it will shit the bed in a matter of minutes. but unless you're going into the BIOS to do that, you won't kill your PC. if your PC is always at max temp, then it means your thermal solution is lacking and subpar.
>>1283392 turn off Lumen with a mod, it improves performances significantly. otherwise as a reminder, even if you GPU tells you you're running Oblivion above 80 FPS, know that the game itself is capped at 60FPS like every TES and Fallout games, because the gameworld and character speeds are tied to the number of FPS, meaning that if you go above 60FPS (at say 144FPS) and it's uncapped (like in Fallout New Vegas) the whole world including you will start moving like Sonic at incredible speed lol, that engine "bug" was also present at the launch of Fallout 76 and could be abused in multiplayer (some players running super fast) until they capped it to 60FPS.
>>1283580 73c isn't unusual for a laptop, if you don't have a cooling pad buy a cheap one, and contrary to popular belief the high end expensive cooling pad are barely 1 or 2 degrees less compared to a cooling pad with no fans at all and with a fanless cooling pad you won't get the annoying high RPM fan noise. GPU's can go up to 80c before throttling and downclocking.
>>1285196 I'm just hoping my laptop won't explode because I won't be able to clean it properly after 4 years of owning it until I find out exactly what putty and paste to use for my legion pro 5 since I need to repaste it if I open it up Idling at 39-41c after a quick air dusting of the vents and the cooling pad
>>1286205 any termal paste that isn't metallic is decent enough for a PC. metallic pastes are for overclockers and people who know how to apply it properly because you can short your PC if the metallic paste touches any eletrical circuits. and if you repaste don't forget to buy something to clean the old paste. and use Hwinfo64 (it's free and non invasive), it's a program that shows precise temps (more precise than other programs) and shows whatever your PC parts are doing right now.

Especially that last part. Real time dynamic rendering of lighting, light bounces, shadows, shading, and full-bore reflections is expensive. And before it's brought up: the reflections used in very old games and Hitman and such are super fucking expensive too, that's why 99% of the time they're in isolated bathrooms and not all over the place. Even the reflective floors in Deus Ex and Unreal were hella expensive to run on hardware of the time.

>>1288011 >Nope. The fact you're throwing such ancient shitware at the game and able to run it at all is a miracle of its own Check the id of the post you replied to before carrying on with strawmen, retard. I didn't say anything about "ancient" hardware. Chill your sperging out wildly in all directions and be reasonable. It used to be common for enthusiasts who couldn't justify buying the best hardware to play around with settings and in-game benchmarks to get a good balance of graphics and performance on their midrange build, knowing that the absolute top end settings for the game were out of reach (and sometimes out of anyone's reach because they were designed for the hardware market to grow into - which is exactly the case with raytracing). Changing settings has done barely anything for over a decade now - with the exception of turning raytracing on and off.
>>1287951 games don't need reflections everywhere. why spend all the budget on graphics if it gets poor performances on mid/high tier GPU's instead of spending the money on better gameplay/story. ten billion polygons on the tip of my tits aren't necessary for a good gaming experience. i DON'T want to see your skin pores i DON'T want to see the wrinkles on your asshole i DON'T want to see FORCED Lumen in my games (that is just a flashlight effect turned on and off repeatedly) GPU's average life time should be at least 6 years (3 generations of GPU's) until you need to change it. games settings on low SHOULD turn off Gaytracing and shitty GAY effects to allow older GPU's to play the game (more people can play the game= more money perhaps ?) and no, i own a good GPU but the FAKE and GAY argument of GAYTRACING and SHIT optimisation with BILLIONS of GAY polygons on the TOE NAIL of my character being normal is RIDICULOUS (AND FUCKING GAY). what ? too poor for a 5090, breton trash ?

It feels like fucking prerenders in a renpy porno made by a russian to leech patreon bux. I have to mostly disagree with this notion, I've been playing it maxed out without ray tracing and everything in the remaster is a plus aesthetically except from the abuse of fog and piss-filter, they did a really good job considering 90% of UE5 projects look like plastic as you said. The ONLY exception material-wise is the Mithril armor which looks like ass in the Remaster since it adds useless ESO-tier details and is not carried by the giga-bloom og Oblivion had, which I loved btw. I'm a massive bloomfag. Unfortunately though, the performance is not part of this good job. Slow downs and dips galore with a 9070 XT.

You get that effect on absolutely drenched pavement/pavers, not on natural stone/cobble that has rain running over it. That same ridiculous specularity can be seen elsewhere. OG oblivion doesn't even look bad if you don't focus on or apply a fix for: bad terrain LOD, low texture resolution, the occasional actually bad potato face (and "character overhauls" generally look even worse in their own off-model way).

Bethesda just released a before/after video of the team working on Oblivion in 2006 and them now : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A9oMOem2t4 so the people at Bethesda during the Oblivion remastered release video were the ones that worked on the old game.

That arrow trap in Fort Ash is constantly active now, noisy as fuck down here
>>1290438 It was plugged. I don't think it could be the Windows install, if only because there was no BSOD and it rebooted normally. I could be very wrong, however! >>1290021 Setting it to anything other than Low does look terrible and is very resource intensive, yeah.
I never played the original Oblivion. Is the Remaster any good, or is most of the fun derived from nostalgia and seeing a new spin on something you're already familiar with? I've been in the mood for a new Bethesda RPG recently. Also, is there any update on modding potential? I heard that the UE stuff was just graphics related.
>>1291503 >I don't think it could be the Windows install, if only because there was no BSOD and it rebooted normally. I could be very wrong, however! you can check what's going on with Windows and your PC by using the Event viewer : press Win + R (Win key is the Windows icon key) , a little box with a field is going to pop up, write : eventvwr and then press Enter, a new window will appear, on the left panel click on Windows Logs then System, then every event will appear with the date it happened and the details when you click on it, you can copy paste the type of error on google to know what's going on, you want to search for the "Critical" and "Error" types of events, you can also filter the events types but i forgot how, in any case if you remember the date it happened you can easily check what the fuck happened, it might not tell you what precisely happened (especially if it's hardware related) but there's still a possibility it can tell you.
>>1291598 it's better than the original because it's almost the same as the original but with better graphics, some sounds were upgraded (way better), they also fixed some bugs related to the engine and added some new things (but not a lot), it's a good game in any case. and there's no new spin on anything, the game still has the same locations, voice actors and whatnot. as for modding there's already mods on the Nexus and people are already importing their old Oblivion mods to the new one en masse (because most work without needing to rework them). and yeah the UE5 thing is just graphics, they slapped Unreal 5 graphics on the old GameBryo engine and it just works. if you liked Fallout or Skyrim, i'm sure you'll love it, especially if you've never played it before.
>>1291619 did they at least update the esp system to the one skyrim SE/LE use so there isn't a small mod limit?
>>1291598 It's a pretty good game if you like questing and light roleplay. Melee combat is kind of shit so you should use at least some magic. I would recommend the ascension remastered mod and 0.5 leveling speed mod. Ascension makes the level scaling less retarded without changing too much about the game and 0.5 leveling is good for compensating for the fact that you level way too fast in the remaster.
>>1291625 >LE meant to say AE
>>1291603 >critical: none >error: 400 in 7 days >grand majority GameInput being shut off >few failed "windows updates," all but 3 for drivers with broken hardware (bluetooth, camera) >nothing else really major except for me booting into safe mode a couple times to solve driver issues Thanks, I know it's serious but I found it amusing seeing it ree about vidya.
>>1291681 windows update fails aren't that important, sometimes windows shits itself while updating, it happens to me to (but my PC doesn't shut down randomly obviously). also it seems related to GameInput yeah, there's a bunch of threads on the internet about GameInput making their PC crash for no reason, so i guess you found why. i'm sure people have found ways to fix this on the internet.
>>1291625 >>1291673 no idea sorry.

Sorry you're too young to understand the scenario being presented, but it's one that factually happened, and here you and esl jose are repeating it because you're stupid. >>1288622 RDR2 looks good in cutscenes and the people, while looking quite shitty elsewhere. Trees look lower resolution than Oblivion trees, especially in first person. In fact, nearly every non-human texture has an abysmal resolution that you can really notice in first person. If you're a mile a way in third person, you can still notice them if the camera is very close to a tree or the ground.
>>1291709 Glad to know it's just Bethesda jank being taken to final boss level. I wonder what specifically is causing the error, because this is impressive and something I'd expect from jeets, not SEAmonkeys and hohols.
>>1291598 The remaster is largely the same game, seriously. If you like one you'll like the other. My opinion on TES4, as somebody who has played all five main games, is that it has some of the best exploration of the series and easily the best quests. The magic system is also phenomenal, almost everybody who plays the game loves the spellcrafting. On the other hand, it has by far the worst level scaling in the series and many fans are rightfully annoyed how much it messes with the lore. I don't usually recommend playing games with mods on your first playthrough, but if you pick up either version of Oblivion you should definitely get a rebalance mod to unfuck the scaling.
>>1291724 it's not coming from the game but from Windows i think, try doing this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7_wfefdv6E i think it's related to windows updating this service wrong, i'm not sure. either way there's people with the same problem as you in the video comments and it's fixable.

>>1292919 Oblivion has no radiant quests; only Arena, Daggerfall and Skyrim do. Unless I'm forgetting something You're going to find the TES4 Dark Brotherhood is one of the best questlines in all of Elder Scrolls. Skyrim's Dark Brotherhood is extremely tame by comparison, and actually one of the weaker questlines of that game. Skyrim's quests are much weaker in general.
>>1293049 Thank you, I'll push through the end of the questline, since Whodunnit is my favorite quest in any TES game on its own.
>>1293049 Don't you get repeatable listener quests at the the end of DB questline?

>>1293049 >actually one of the weaker questlines of that game. You're kidding. I haven't done it, since I decided to just kill the bitch that kidnapped me, but you're telling me the dork brotherhood in skyrim is even WORSE than the "thieves" guild, furrypanions, and mages college questlines? Between "become a werewolf or forever halt the questline", thieves being less about thieving and more about becoming soul selling black leather wearing douchefags to fight one guy, and the college being about instantly becoming the chosen one and still sucking at magic because it's impossible for magic to not be shit in skyrim because you found something related to a staff, the dork brotherhood is even worse? That's a high bar of fecal matter to pass.
>>1293090 There might be? If so I never did them, but that's not quite the same thing as radiant quests a la Skyrim. >>1293103 There are two endings to Skyrim's DB questline. One is you kill the Emperor. It's genuinely not as interesting as it sounds somehow, it's mostly remembered because it's the only time you get to see Medes The other ending is destroying the Brotherhood, to which Commander Maro says "good job buddy" and walks away. It's famously bad, even among Skyrim fans. Go look it up, the whole thing is around eight minutes from start to finish
>>1293103 He probably meant in context to Oblivion. Yeah Skyrim Dark Brotherhood is better than the snorefest of Mages College at least and arguably the thieves guild. But basically every guild quest in Oblivion is better than it's Skyrim counterpart.
>>1293103 I never completed the Mage's Guild because the wraiths would CTD me every fucking time but the furrypanions were much worse than the DB. The Thieves Guild were better than DB The best Skyrim questline is the Vampirism line in Dawnguard. Nothing else comes close, in my opinion, and even then the Vale was rarely fun. I'll give Vyrthur this, he's probably the hardest boss in the game I've come across.
>>1293103 You do actual thieving in the Skyrim Thieves Guild & build up a supply of treasures. Tying Nocturnal into it rather than being a quick one & done artifact quest is lore friendly. The Companions & College of Winterhold are genuinely lazy. The worst part about the Skyrim Dark Brotherhood is the end result is just lazy radiant quests instead of actual targets.
>>1293233 I mean, both Dark Brotherhood questlines have been absolutely mogged by the new Hitman trilogy now anyway.
>>1293376 That's completely irrelevant. An entire game series about assassinations versus faction side quests in rpgs.
>>1293400 Oblivion's assassination question was noteworthy because it had targets in an open world with funny ways of going about dispatching them. It was novel at the time, it isn't anymore. There's really no particular reason to engage with it over any other questline.
>>1293432 You get a jester companion & Lucien Lachance summon. That's pretty much the only incentive.
>>1293432 Hitman came out in 2000, baiting retard. It still has nothing to do with assassination missions and guilds in TES.

>>1295197 I so much wish they had put the effort of linking in Unreal instead into porting to a more modern version of Gamebryo with a faithful update of textures and lighting. I simply won't touch the Unreal trash but I do so wish the alternative wasn't an unstable single core engine.

Why is Chuna in Vitharn?
hey, full Mithril armor is pretty cool, the only thing that isn't mithril in the screenshots is the dwemer bow (with elven arrows).
I just finished the Knights of the Nine, never did it before. Fun little quest. I like how people you quested for showed up in the little church asking to become knights later. Now that it's done, do the nameless redshirt Knights respawn? Or are they finite if I keep killing them? I just took one into an oblivion gate and he didn't last too long.
