vrgames thread Anonymous 04/25/2025 (Fri) 13:24:08 Id: 917d7f No. 1253852
VR games thread, I guess? ITR 2 new update with new map is out. Vertigo 2 DLC releases in 1 hour.
Shilling the game because I'm going to pirate it.
>>1253928 does vertigo 2 get better after the early parts? I bounched off vertigo 1 but finished the demo of 2 and it's kind of borderline
>>1254065 After the tree area it kinda goes downhill, the civil war town was sort of memorable too, I don't remember if it's before or after though. The game is pretty long.
>>1253928 The voice acting sounds somehow terrible. Is that AI slop?
Eleven Table Tennis is all a man needs
>>1256493 You are tripping. The japanese sounds good.
>>1253852 Into The Darkness VR has a playtest available that you can request access for. It looks like it's still far off from a ready to release state. It's the next Boneworks sort of game i suppose. Not looking as polished as it should be just yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr3SbywPfUE https://store.steampowered.com/app/1529530/Into_The_Darkness_VR/ And Gunman Contracts Standalone releases some time this year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di8HBAR_7Z0 https://store.steampowered.com/app/2421750/Gunman_Contracts__Stand_Alone/

This is what I got in my VR collection, and honestly I barely play any of them anymore. Most of what I play in VR are either simulators like ATS/MSFS2020, or modded flatscreen games, like REmake 2/3 and Left 4 Dead 2. Compound is still pretty good though. Wouldn't mind starting up a new run of Skyrim VR too, but my mod stack is fucked and I have zero desire to deal with Nexus's bullshit to update/fix it.
>>1268996 There's more VR mods coming out than I've got time to play them ;_;
>>1268798 Into the darkness is basically insta accept into playtest. Will check it out a bit later. Almost got to the new map in ITR2
The guys behind The Room VR just released a new game recently called Ghost Town. It's pretty much a light puzzle, atmospheric adventure game. It's quest only right now but they plan a release on PC in fall I believe. I pirated it on quest because I was intrigued by the bullshots in the storefront that looked really impressive for a headset that's pretty much as powerful as a 1050ti. The good and the bad: -Resolution is pretty damn high for a quest game. I believe they use dynamic resolution scaling OR use preset resolution settings per maps. The lobby intro and the first map (lighthouse) renders at around 2500x2200 per eye, the fixed foveated rendering is light and you can barely tell the foveation levels on the edge of your vision. -They use static lighting with light probes, there's very few actual dynamic lights but it's not much of an issue since all the levels are handcrafted. -Unfortunately Spacewarp is forced on at 45fps > 90hz. Fortunately it's silky smooth and this is the best async spacewarp tech I've ever experienced. Nothing on PC even compares. -I'm not sure what antialiasing tech they use but it doesn't seem to be TAA but the image is still fuzzy and there's quite a lot of specular aliasing. -I'm not happy with the texture filtering that they use as you can obviously tell the mipmap transition when moving back and forth or looking at a wall from an angle, which is odd since Aniso X8 is pretty much free on modern hardware. Overall the game looks really damn good for running on a glorified phone and I'm enjoying the gameplay quite a bit. I toyed with QGO and bumped the cpu and gpu clock speed to max and the game can easily render at 60fps > 120hz with spacewarp but I went with a slight resolution increase instead. I think we're finally getting there with experiences that looks like 2010ish PC gaming. I believe that once most studios will be capable of using the proper optimization tech for VR we'll easily get Alyx tier visuals.
>>1272743 They should have baked in ambient occlusion and a couple of light bounces for the environment.
whats your guys settings for recording? ive never been able to find the right balance between using the game view, or the headset view and cropped as much border as possible
>>1273904 If you are recording steamvr with obs addon, cropping it manually is more consistent, because sometimes the devs are retarded and place the camera weirdly or use incorrect eye (left, then most people are right eye dominant). Oculus mirror allows you select the eye and they placed the camera well, so you can just use it as it.
(56.35 KB 637x630 VYn5RxV.jpg)

>>1273904 I can't figure out how to get OBS to record SteamVR View without it being a slideshow. It's smooth in the helmet, but both recordings and streaming shit the bed seemingly no matter what settings I use. Just as well, not like I stream to Twitch often, and when I do - all my VODs get deleted immediately because I won't stop playing copyrighted music. Fuck em.
>>1274183 Maybe hardware accelleration, maybe need to raise bitrate. No headset yet so can't elp.
>>1273980 there's an addon? i've just been using OBS normally and either selecting the game window, or selecting the headset view and cropping to some ratio of as little black border but as much FOV as possible with varying results between my QPro and Index
>>1274211 My bitrate floats between 6000 and 10,000 depending on what I try to test. Used both Nvenc h.264 and x264. Doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm just going to blame it on Windows Mixed Reality being dogshit.
>>1274272 yeah it allows you do grab the full resolution framebuffer directly, independently of your monitor res. https://github.com/baffler/OBS-OpenVR-Input-Plugin
>Already have it since over a year ago >Just never finished installing it because I forgot or got distracted I am peeved at myself.

>>1274553 Take the time to set it up because its only good way to record vr gameplay
>>1278016 why are you on /trash to begin with
>>1278098 he likes gay sex
What are your favorite vrchat worlds?
>>1282447 Ah, I've found that one before. I had expected a little more out of it, personally.
>>1282857 (the gravity rush one not the anime girl one lol)
What are some good PCVR arena shooters
What is the best fps game for vr? I want it to be single player, fun, and for it to have a long campaign. I also think it would be cool if it was open world as well
So I'm downloading Into the Radius right now, I'm going to pick up my headset today when the local supermarket is open, I am stoked
>>1285184 is there an extension thatll let me block this or something
>>1284960 After the years, the first one is fixed pretty much. I'm playing the second one right now, and damn it's a buggy mess. Getting fps drops with 4090 at 90hz.
(42.57 KB 612x605 1535499003614.jpg)

The only good thing going on in Ghosts of Tabor is the PVE mode. If Exfil Zone decides to get one this game is done for.
>>1284582 I really liked AMID EVIL VR. Got an update recently as well. Otherwise I'm waiting for Team Beef stuff to release to replay RTCW, Doom 3, Quake 4 etc. There's the serious games as well that I bought but only managed to get one game with a friend before he gave up.
>>1285601 I wish it had The Black Labyrinth. That DLC improves the entire game dramatically. For whatever reason the dev of the VR version won't include it.
>>1286226 The port was probably a money sink.
>>1286490 That's too bad. Too many VR games are abandoned and unfinished, the DLC improves the game a ton too with the new weapons and content. At least the original game+dlc work great with UEVR.
Amid Evil didn't do it for me at all. I completed 3 levels on hard without any effort and after that I completely lost all interest.
>>1287719 The VR version nerfs the difficulty a lot. I had to play the secret extra hard difficulty to get much out of it. I wish that it had an original game difficulty at least.
>>1256493 no, because AI is kino.
>>1284860 >>1284960 I chickened out on it. I was worried whether or not I could pirate games on it and also didn't like that the meta quest 3 is limited to 512 gbs. I also left my phone at home so I couldn't look it up while I was there
>>1289313 you can pirate games for the quest, easily as much as i want to help you find out how though, if you lead a pirate to treasure then surely the navy will follow
>>1290327 >Chris Snorlax Bacon Lmfao. Do any local pizza places still do pay on delivery?
95% of VR games are undercooked/unfinished products, poorly optimized and not originally designed for the game, and games that wouldn't look out of place on the jewgle app store
>>1284860 halo with the vr mod
>>1292397 halo doesn't even have manual reload hl2vr mod fits though
>>1294853 Ctfu this nigga too scared to do something himself
>thinks he knows the best vr has to offer >he's never had vr sex before
>>1289743 It's done. God I can't wait to get home and play it. I'm gonna play some fps games and become a degenerate VR sex addict
Is vr chat sex any good?
>>1295672 Not with most of the "people" from this or the normal place for VRG.
{smiley_face} {rocket} {rocket} {rocket}
I unironically have 0 idea what they spend those billions of dollars every year on at reality labs. It's money laundering by pajeets. There is no other explanation.
(1.24 MB 2858x2858 20250428204606_1.jpg)

>>1291717 At least we have flat game mods
>>1296889 All those silicon carbide lenses for the AR glasses. They honestly do publish a lot of interesting hardware and software research, so I don't entirely hate that they're burning zucc's money to do it.
>>1298463 >They honestly do publish a lot of interesting hardware and software research It's true, but that shit doesn't cost 4billion per quarter. And it's "a lot".
>>1298763 It's pocket money for zuck when the whole company makes 60 billions a year. Dude is stuck up on his dream of getting his iphone moment with AR glasses in a few years and be the first to market and I'm thankful for it. You know what I think he should go all in and dump 10billies a year in his errand and slap more facebook ads to those retarded boomers and soccermoms on his platforms.
>>1298770 it's literally just ads 100% cancer
>>1298770 > dump 10billies a year he dumps 16+ already he can 30+ and they will still produce nothing of value it's money laundering, i'm telling you
what the fuck those 15k+ people are even doing there? pretending to be meta horizon users like some kind of very expensive bots?
>>1298798 I'd guess a mix of R&D, software development, and firmware updates for the Quest itself
>>1298893 how many employees valve has again?
>>1298798 Facebook has had heavy layoffs so I imagine the number isn't that high now. >>1298934 Valve is also possibly the most productive company on the entire planet per capita. Seriously, the average employee earns the company over 20 million dollars per annum. What Valve does with how few people they have is a phenomenon, there have been studies attempting to understand how Valve functions so efficiently.
>>1299051 It's not a phenomenon though fucking kek. All they do is sit back and collect royalties
It's blurry as fuck, massive lumen artifacting out of the ass, runs like dogshit where I'm barely hitting 50fps with dlss Q (basically 1440p rendering) but holy fuck if it isn't fun to play.
>>1302786 >It's blurry as fuck, massive lumen artifacting out of the ass, runs like dogshit That was already my experience when I tried the flat demo.
>>1307487 >guy uses video game with prominent lowlife sex chat rackets to run his own sex racket Im just surprised he's not a tranny himself. 50% of VRchat "power users" just use it wear a woman's VR skin, roleplay as a basic bitch slut complete with online donations and spend upto 6 hours daily inside them with other sex pests roleplayers
>>1298463 I don't have much hope that we get varifocal any time soon, but to me that's still the last big innovation I want out of vr headsets wonder what the pro 2 equivalent is going to be like
>>1307622 neck yourself, eruotrash
Nice to see that even 599 days later (the day of previous save), the dev is still an absolute retard with shit taste. I almost rage quit at the first boss at the moon base entrance. Doesn't that idiot understand that braindead bullet sponge enemies, wobbly weapons, chronic lack of ammo is just not fun? How can you unironically ship that kind of shit.
The gameplay is so ass, that I even completely forgot about the reddit "humor."
>>1309881 Why did you buy the dlc if you didn't enjoy the game?

Anyway, I just wanted to see if he learnt anything from vertigo 2. He did not. The gameplay is still ass. Hard mode is just self-inflicted torture.

>>1319954 Buying games? MORE LIKE GAY AND BI! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!
(79.50 KB 1385x946 columbo.jpg)

>>1320551 >>1320564 >>1320583 Just one more thing Mr. Anon, why is VR dying? >Why is VR dying? Because lazy developers are only making low effort slop. We need AAA production quality slop for VR to succeed and people should start buying 5090s instead of under powered quests. Just one last thing Sir... I almost forgot to ask you this. When was the last time you bought a VR game? >Who do you think I am?! I'm not a retard goy paying for games!
(253.17 KB 113x113 veduhl.gif)

(29.13 KB 400x465 ANGER.jpg)

>>1320551 >>1320564 >>1320583 >>1322197 Not to mention, Vertigo 2 is as indi as a game can get. It's mostly made by one guy. He even almost voiced Brian in the DLC because he couldn't get the voice actor: https://youtu.be/cSn_a2-2TXk You can even hear this in the trailer, second video of >>1253928 is the dev voicing Brian in the trailer because that was released earlier than the game. I can understand not wanting to support EA or € 90 Mario kart. But when you pirate from a single guy creating a game for a niche platform without the backing of a pre-existing franchise, then YOU are the reason VR doesn't get games. It's even PC only, so you don't get to claim quest holding back VR either.
(11.02 MB 854x480 Compound.webm)

>>1324317 I wouldn't even bother pirating it, the game looks like shit and stuffed to the gills with cancerous Rick & Morty "humor". Ended up getting the first game as part of a bundle, and I could barely make it through a half hour before wanting to strangle myself with my headsets cord. What a shitshow. If you want a decent indie VR shooter, go with Compound. The game was developed over the Covid lockdowns, and it shows. It's about taking down a mad scientist/pharmaboss who is creating viruses so they can force you buy the vaccines they made for it.
>>1322197 >>1324317 I'm not paying for bad games, it's just not going to happed. >b-but the dev tried! Don't care. Make a good game, then you will get my money.
>>1302786 More robocock.
>>1324317 Hey there Brian.
(32.63 KB 640x480 you like it.jpg)

>>1325877 You enjoyed it enough to play the DLC. You decided that was worth your time.
>>1328448 Only played it on an off-chance that it gets better and to be able to confidently say that the game is bad. Because you niggers would just say "i-it's gets better after 5 hours!", it doesn't. The dev made so many retarded decisions which literally ruin the game. Pic related: the game pushes you in space instead of letting you lean a little bit, because I guess representing the player as a straight standing capsule is the best we can do these days.
>>1328337 what is this? >>1328763 which vr game solves leaning over tables best?
>>1329056 >what is this? A person hiking in the woods with vispro. Imagine a large scale augmented reality game like that. Could be cool. >which vr game solves leaning over tables best? Can't think of anything from the top my head. A lot of devs don't even try and just allow collision with the geometry with fade to black/orange (alyx) screen, others use the barebones capsule and push the player. Unsatisfactory overall. Maybe bonelab does it a little bit. I remember them talking about simulating the avatar properly, but I don't remember testing in-game. Need to check later.

>>1350250 >tell everyone it "Ships in May" >May arrives >this is the fucking state of it >reviewers have nothing to show except lens & display since nothing else is finalized or complete >jack the price up >announce a separate cheaper SKU with worse displays & lenses The one thing Pimax can always deliver to customers is a fake release date. Pimax is the Todd Howard of VR.
>>1350250 No one actually buys from this company, right?
>>1380469 Was kind of considering the Crystal Light as a replacement for my Reverb G2 since Microsoft is bricking it and nobody cares enough to make Linux drivers. Wouldn't mind a Big Screen Beyond, but I don't have an iPhone like a faggot would, so I can't get my face scanned for a fitting. I want to share it with friends and family, anyhow, so a custom VR headset wouldn't really work. Don't trust some of the new stuff coming from literally who brands out of China, and I'm not looking to downgrade to Zuck's Meta garbage or PSVR2PC. Was hoping to hold out to see what Valve had in store with Deckard, but holding your breath for Valve to release anything is foolish. It's not my ideal solution, but the clock's ticking. What do you fags recommend?
>>1380469 Nobody buys from that company a second time. Let's leave it at that.
>>1381306 the bigshit begone 2 has a generic gasket option now. Wait for reviews in a month I guess, but I've been pretty happy with the 1st edition, despite its flaws.
>>1381390 >$1,000 headset >No tracking solution >No audio solution >No controllers Jesus, the whole face scan thing automatically put it outside of my consideration - I didn't realize just how bare bones the fucking thing was. I'm not spending more money than my entire fucking computer cost on a VR headset that I'm going to get such limited use out of. Got anything that's in the sub-$999 range that is a complete package out of the box? Annoying tracking issues aside, my Reverb G2 has been a good workhorse that still keeps pace with or outclasses most mass market headsets out there, and it only cost me $399 new. Is there nothing in the mid-range market?
>>1381687 > I'm not spending more money than my entire fucking computer cost on a VR headset If you think that's expensive, just get a Q3. Not even to disparage you or anything, poverty is not a sin. It's a perfectly fine headset and a massive upgrade over index. Spend everything else you have on upgrading your PC. In a year, you will have a lot more to chose from HMD wise.
>>1381695 It's not even a matter of poverty, but in value for the dollar. I'm not going to get the mileage out of those VR headsets to justify spending over a grand a half on a headset - especially when the VR game industry is relying on shovelware just to maintain life support. I'll mostly be using it for sims. At any rate, a Quest 3 would be a downgrade from the Reverb G2, so I don't want to go that route.
>>1381721 >a Quest 3 would be a downgrade from the Reverb G2 Not really. G2 is the worst headset. Even for simmers running quest 3 wired would a massive upgrade over g2. For everyone who actually uses the controllers, you don't even need to say anything. G2 just can't compete, objectively. It's just worse at everything.
So I just got my quest 3 headset and the image quality is pretty subpar (the horizon app probably has the best quality) and some games only pop up on my monitor with vr black screening (whether it's through steam or the link app). If I can't fix this shit, I'm pretty much out of $500. What do I need to do to clear this shit up? Also unless it's star trek tier, I'm never buying vr shit ever again. Shit should be optimized out of the box (especially with the development cycle it has had) and I shouldn't have to fix anything
>>1298798 >what the fuck those 15k+ people are even doing there? not working for a competitor maybe
>>1284860 >singleplayer unironically HL2 with VR mod. Alyx is great, but it's more of a survival horror than an action game. HL2VR is good old vidya design with at least 10-20 enemies going at you in every single encounter, plus mod handles gun interactions just like Alyx does, so it's not a shitty half-assed VR port either. Very much recommended. And Into the Radius is a must play as well, it's bit of a jank side but it really comes to live once you'll enable hardcore mode (that does NOT take away your equipment on death, it merely respawns you to the base and then allows you to retrieve it from your own corpse). Planning your approach, sneaking around, being fully aware that you cannot survive most encounters head-on, this game absolutely nails stalker-like gameplay loop of preparation and exploration.
has anyone tried Peak in VR yet?

>>1572422 >I bought a VR set from Faceberg <Why is it so shit?????????? lol. lmao, even. Next time get a Valve Index kit. >>1635750 Good recommendations. >Alyx is great, but it's more of a survival horror than an action game It's more of a tech demo than a game imo. Alyx is great, but it has its flaws >only 3 guns, when they coulda done more: pistol, shotgun, smg >no melee weapons or CQC system; if you run out of ammo, you're fucked >shotgun and smg are weird, small, 'one-handed-type-looking' guns; why can't we just pickup and use the combine's guns like in HL2? >even on hard, game is easily broken by setting movement to teleport and speedrunning past everything >no limits on ammo, even on hard I was able to accumulate 300+ rounds of pistol ammo at endgame >too many puzzles, not enough enemies; all that ammo is going to waste >gun mods are few and uninspired: increased magazine capacity & grenade launcher are the only ones I really used >the really fucking weird 'pounce-and-ragdoll' animation used by headcrabs when they attack you >grenades and other objects are stored inside your wrists, instead of on your clothing. what? >no final boss; your endgame is throwing super-grenades at combine grunts in a corridor It's a great game, don't get me wrong, but there's valid criticism of it that needs our attention.
