Monsterous, Dark, & Evil Modes/Forms. Anonymous 05/03/2025 (Sat) 05:24:06 Id: ab66bf No. 1306617
Alternative form in Vidya Games that allow you to assume power with a sinister take and appearance to match. I've been thinking about games that allow you to turn into a monster since I enjoyed playing PSP2I's beast and loved using nanoblast to turn into a werewolf and the rare occasion I managed to use dark nanoblast to extend and become even more vicious. I'm looking for games that give you the feeling of turning into something more feral and vicious. Even better if it's something non human. I guess alternative versions of characters also count as well if the fifth image is anything to go by.
>>1306617 Does Heartless Sora count?
Not an evil form but Devil triggers from Devil may cry are cool.

>>1306617 KHII anti form was sorta cool, however you were just winging it since there was no real way for you to LEARN how to use it properly. I remember reading it on Gamefaqs back then that activating it gave you some permanent debuffs or something. The Dark chips on MMBN4 and onward, while not a form it was a forbidden power thingy. Thing is you were never backed against the wall in this game to actually use and lose a permanent HP point if you were to use them.
>>1309258 Yeah, that's what I was thinking of.

There's Ripper Mode in MGR.
>>1306617 Since you posted Gregar then surely Dark Mega and the Chaos Unisons in 4/5 fit, even though most people don't use them and they're mostly colorswaps unless you really use Dark Chips. I don't think there are many other ones in Megaman; maybe playing as Omega in ZX but he's just a reused sprite with some different attacks. Dark Trigger's not really a transformation. Pokemon has Shadow Pokemon, but you don't control those transformations and only Lugia looks different. You could say Mega Evolutions since they tap into the more ""vicious"" nature of them to give them power. The Doom Powers in Sonic x Shadow Generations? Intoner Mode in Drakengard 3 sure feels like it but it doesn't look like it. I think I would have expected something like this to show up in SMT in some way by now, even if it's not really evil since they do Law/Chaos and everyone's an asshole. DDS counts in story flavor, but you spend way more time transformed than in Human mode in gameplay. >>1308870 Heartless Sora is more like a consequence of the laws of nature since he doesn't really do anything while Heartless in 1, but it's probably as close as he gets given how they style Rage Form in 2 and 3.

>>1306617 Kyuubi is pretty damn cool in every game he appears in. Generally speaking Shonen games tend to have Berserk forms for characters.
>>1306617 Does BoF3 Kaiser dragon count, since you can't control it also always annoyed me you don't get to have the actual dragon form, dark/evil forms with monstrous form aren't coming to my head right now so i'm adding Id at least
>>1308870 >Does Heartless Sora count? He's a transformation/Form change so yes. >>1309428 If it's malevolent or edgy I guess it could count.
>>1309440 It's the "berserk" powerup that attack everyone indiscriminately
>>1309473 Yeah, I think it counts.
>>1306617 This is cheating but SC1&2 Nightmare.

>>1306617 Jak 2 and 3 have Dark Jak to transform into. The moveset feels a lot more feral compared to his normal attacks.

>>1310633 It's unfortunate Dark Jak isn't all that useful, all of Jak 2 was kind of thrown together out of games Naughty Dog liked at the time and you can feel that in its messy design.
Bump, Would you consider the first two images to count? It's a bit of a stretch considering they're based on antagonist that (rarely) help the protagonist but are largely out for themselves.
Sanic had a couple of dark forms, funny how a Dark Sonic's a pretty popular concept , yet SEGA never really capitalized on the idea much. >Dark Sonic/Dark Super Sonic This form only exist for a single minute in the Sonic X anime, powered by rage and fake Chaos Emeralds, yet fans never forgot about his existence and still make fan content about him to this day, including a pretty kick-ass mod for SRB2. >Darkspine Sonic Only appears in Secret Rings' final boss, also powered by rage from Shahra's death and three of the World Rings. Gameplay's pretty much unchanged from how it was in the main game except you have to waggle the Wiimote if you want to deal damage when the opportunity appears. >Sonic the Warehog Cursed by Dark Gaia at the start of Unleashed and the only form that lasts most of the game. Sonic switches between his normal form at day and Warehog at night. A pretty hated transformation considering it changes the game's genre from quick platforming to a slow beat 'em up that isn't even as good as some of the games it's copying like GoW or DMC. It's not that bad once you learn how to play it properly, you don't even need to fight most enemies.
>>1375860 The first instance of Dark Sonic never appeared in the comics either? It was just a one and done form that never gets mentioned again at any point as if it's not canon?

>>1376531 >The first instance of Dark Sonic never appeared in the comics either? Technically, the comics did one first. The UK comics, simply titled "Sonic The Comic" had its own version of Super Sonic, named "Fleetaway Super Sonic" because Fleetaway Editions was the name of the publisher, that appeared when Sonic got too stressed or exposed to Chaos Energy. I'm not sure on either of those conditions cause I never read it. That version of Super Sonic was batshit crazy and wanted to destroy everything. He became separated from Sonic for a while, but his story ended with him being fused back into the real Sonic. I don't know if Archie did a Dark Sonic, there was a robotized Sonic brainwashed by Robotnik and an evil clone of Super Sonic that might have been a reference to Fleetaway, but no Dark transformation that comes to mind aside from the Warehog in the Unleashed adaptation near the end of its run. >It was just a one and done form that never gets mentioned again at any point as if it's not canon? Pretty much, there's some fans thinking that Sonic X, or at least some version of the Metarex Arc where Dark Sonic is from, is turning canon due to Sonic X references in recent official material, including the flower pot where Tails plants Cosmo's remains being seen. Also, I just remembered Shadow has some dark transformations. >Dark Shadow Appears in Shadow '05 I'm glad I live in a timeline where I can call the game by that name since Shadow has TWO games now has a similar form in Sonic 06 called Chaos Boost. When Shadow does enough villainous acts in a stage, he temporarily becomes invincible, gets unlimited ammo, and can perform a giant explosion attack called Chaos Blast. He can also access this state even in Super Form during the final boss. The Sonic 06 transformation isn't really a dark transformation and isn't as powerful, so I won't talk about here. >Doom Shadow Appears in Shadow Generations, Shadow gains different abilities throughout the game as a plan by Black Doom to turn Shadow into either his new vessel or a perfect soldier for the Black Arms. Doom Morph in particular makes Shadow unrecognizable. Doom Wing also lets Shadow fly and become invincible at the cost of rings, just like a traditional Super Form. Of course, he loses all these once he beats Black Doom at the end.
>>1376694 Thanks for the info, Fleetaway Super Sonic's an interesting take on super sonic. I always liked the idea of overclocked transformation caused by over exposure or overuse via factors. Makes them more meaningful since they could be a bane or a boon depending on the usage. The duality of outcomes is the best part.
>>1376694 >(Fleetway Super Sonic) appeared when Sonic got too stressed or exposed to Chaos Energy. I'm not sure on either of those conditions cause I never read it. Yes, it was both. >He became separated from Sonic for a while, but his story ended with him being fused back into the real Sonic. While he was separated from Sonic, he got amnesia and actually became a good guy, but upon being exposed to the Chaos Emeralds again, he went berserk again, and Sonic had to fuse back with him to stop him. Then Sonic was afraid of becoming Super Sonic again, but is forced to to fight Chaos, and Super Sonic's friends (from when he was a good guy) hope that now if Sonic transforms he'll remain good. But he doesn't. But he does beat Chaos and then turns back to normal anyway. Sonic the Comic also had a character called Turbo, who was an antagonist version of Sonic and also an orange alien who looked like Sonic and was fast. He was from outer space, but the outer space of the micro-world of Shanazar (which actually wasn't an alternate world at all, but a world that existed on an atom or something in the regular world). Later Shanazar gets blown up to normal size and merged with the main world. Anyway Sonic has to race Turbo and whoever loses will have their loved ones killed by some other aliens. Maybe Turbo is more like Knuckles or Shadow but I want to talk about him anyway. One time Sonic also fought a version of himself from another dimension where he was evil so he took over and became King. Sonic beats him by turning him Super, reasoning that if he is normally good but becomes an evil Super Sonic, maybe it will work in reverse for King Sonic. It does. Sonic also becomes king in the original future of the Archie comics, but eventually he has to go back in time and erase himself from the timeline or something, but actually he survives and lives to witness the new future where Shadow is fucking his wife and is now King Shadow, who is evil. Sonic dethrones King Shadow and gets his wife back but doesn't actually restore the timeline. He just has to deal with the fact that now his wife fucked Shadow for 30 years. Luckily, this future is never referenced again and is later erased from continuity. >I don't know if Archie did a Dark Sonic There was an issue where Sonic went to a planet with Red Chaos Emeralds (in Archie continuity up to that point, there were basically infinite Chaos Emeralds on Mobius, but they were all green) that turned him into an evil Super Sonic that really seemed like a reference to Sonic the Comic. All the Chaos Emeralds (including five new colors) get merged into just seven, based on color, and then all seven are needed to become Super Sonic, but despite the presence of the red Chaos Emerald, Super Sonic isn't evil anymore. And oh yeah there is also Scourge who is literally Evil Sonic, and was named such for most of his existence. He has a Super Form called Super Scourge who looks just like Coldsteel the Hedgehog but actually predates that meme by a few years.
Link in Majora's Mask has the Fierce Deity, a super mode he can only access during the final boss fight. It's never made clear what the Fierce Deity is supposed to be; theories range from it being another forgotten god like Majora to what Link could theoretically become if he were to let the Triforce of Courage corrupt him like the Triforce of Power corrupted Ganondorf into Ganon. TP Link turns into a direwolf as an integral gameplay mechanic. Not the meanest or most monstrous looking, particularly compared to the Twilight creatures he battles, but it's a pretty traditional take on old werewolf legends. He also scares friendly NPCs when approaching them and his moveset includes biting enemies' throats out.
The cringiest example. The edgy tonal whiplash in Jak II ruined this series forever
>>1382593 Some people really like the Jak sequels, but I quite dislike them. For more reasons than just their tone, the gunplay is dogshit as is the driving and city design. In some good news, there's a Jak fan game coming out in the style of the first.
>>1382677 >Some people really like the Jak sequels Yeah. Retards, you mean. They turned a comfy lighthearted platformer (Jak 1) into an edgy GTA clone. I'll never forgive them.
>>1382725 Jak 1 was probably the best platformer on the platform, so it especially stings.
>>1382725 Jak 1 is excellent but I'd argue it's much too easy. I wish it had difficulty comparable to Crash 3. Jak II and 3 are totally different things, and I think I agree that I wish that they did the original sequel they had planned before they caved to focus groups. However, I still like Jak II and 3. They tried to do a zillion different things, and I don't think they were the best at any of those things, but they were good enough at all those things to make the overall games still quite enjoyable. And while I might say Jak II gets a bit too difficult in some places, I think I overall like the difficulty better in the sequels than in the original, which you can basically sleepwalk through. But yes, they're clearly less polished, and there are things that bug me quite a bit about them. But I still think they're pretty good. Daxter does an alright job at being a middle ground between the first and second games. It's a bit more focused on platforming rather than all the other bullshit. Also too short and easy, but for one of the first 3D games released on a handheld, that was acceptable. It's fun while it lasts. Jak X is awesome and the true sequel to CTR.
metroid prime 3 maybe. you can enter super mode at will. shooting costs hp, though, and if you linger in it for more than 10 seconds you enter a corrupt version in which HP bar starts filling up. if you let it sit full for a few seconds, you die. of course, using super mode is basically cheating >>1309428 >Does BoF3 Kaiser dragon count, since you can't control it you can, dummy. sort of. lrn2influence. or input one of the two correct gene combinations and it will let you input orders you also forgot to include rei's weretiger form which is ai-controlled and starts attacking your party too after a few turns
