Seeking for some geimu suggestion and small review of it Anonymous 05/28/2025 (Wed) 03:46:45 Id: 85767d No. 1410369
I'm trying to find some geimus on my own through using Google and the Steam store page and then downloading it afterwards with QBittorrent and then setting it all up with Lutris and Proton wine, and praying to Gayben that it doesn't run like shit. I'm primarily interested in FPS and RPG games. For RPG games I'd would like to have the ability to use a bow and a sword basically and not being limited to only 1 weapon type like how it is common with other RPG games. I am a casual pleb player, so I am not exactly seeking for a challenge. I just want to kill shit and seeing numbers go up. I don't except from anons to make KC tier review post but at least give me some short description of a geimu if its at least fun to play or not. By fun I mean it doesn't contain bullshit mechanic that would piss me off, I don't have patience anymore for games that punishes the player too hard for not gitting gud enough, I'm too old for this shit. So far one of the pirated games I played a lot recently is "My Times at Sandrock" I don't know how to exactly describe it but its well a open world game with crafting system and it's made in piece of shit unity engine but at least it is performant and doesn't lag too much apart from that sometimes it takes ages for assets and menu to load because god knows why. I am not really happy with this game because despite there is combat in this game the only weapons I can access right now are melee weapons which are like at least 4 base variants available as well a upgraded form of it, there is not even at least a fucking bow or crossbows weapon available, there are ranged weapons in this game like pistols and even a assault rifle but they are locked behind some fucking quests which is not open to me yet so I am stuck with this sword and shield combo which pisses me off. I have almost 60 hours in it already in this game according to Lutris. I installed some mods for this game to make it slightly less annoying to play such as extended day time, machine production speed, because those coders had the brilliant idea to tie machine speed to the day time speed and no commission limit so that I can do more than one commissions in this game. <Wigmund I pirated this game but didn't played it for long, I fiddled around with the settings of this game because I'm left handed I always need to change the key binding of games. Anyway so far the performance is not so bad but the way the gameplay works in this game is kinda ass, for example it is not exactly obvious what is interactable or lootable due to lack of any visible hints and clicking on interactable objects feels like it suffers pixel hunting issue, so this game is already a big minus for me. Then I got into combat against a few wolves and died, I noticed too late I didn't made any recent save and then quit because I'm not even told that I need to do regular saves because I cannot be resurrected in this game at all. So far the game doesn't look fun to play. <Ancient Kingdom I played it for only over 1 hour on it and not more. It's a 2D RPG game with a few classes to play as, so I picked the ranger class because it can use bows and swords, just what I wanted. There isn't that many ability to grind for which is a let down, I can't really tell how this games fares in later stage because I didn't leveled up much. I once got my ass kicked by the skeleton boss because I was doing a quest for gathering some flowers and since the skeletons where slightly higher level then me but I could kite them more or less easy I thought I could defeat the first boss but nope I couldn't do it. For some reason the sword weapon does barely any damage compared to the bow I have, yes there is a ability that lets me use a powerful sword attack but it comes with a long 5 second cool down timer which is not really ideal. I may play this game more but if it turns out that its not fun to play I will gladly drop it. <Oblivion remastered Honestly I didn't had much hope for this UE 5 engine shit slop to run well on my machine, I have to turn down the graphics settings to medium and lowering other settings so that I sort of get at least 50-60 FPS frames, I don't even get a stable 60 FPS from this game. I am not really impressed by this remaster, the main reason its just more of the same exact shit like OG Oblivion just slapped down with the piece of shit UE 5 engine. I played of this game for about 31 hours but I ended up playing the OG oblivion for at least over 88 hours instead because it runs well and it has tons of mods for me to install. So the verdict is that I don't want to play this remaster any more and I'd just play OG oblivion instead. <Unreal Tournament 1999 and 2004 Classic Arena Shooter games, I own for the 2004 version a legit german copy which I installed a Blood patch for it already long time ago. I play those games from time to time against bots because its just a simple shooting fun with no dumb shit in it. I play both of those release but I have no preferences for either of these, I like them both. I don't mind having to play against bots as long the bots are not dumb as a brick and they do give me some challenge. But i always end up winning like 100% of the matches because I didn't set the difficulty to any higher. I would love to make some weapon mods for those games but I have no idea how the fuck I am supposed to learn Unreal Script. Man that was back in the time when Epic Games was based and not full of shit. <Gedonia I didn't played much of this game because I got stuck with having to fuck around with Lutris settings because as soon the game loads the main menu it runs like shit and even ingame it runs like shit for me. I can't really give a more elaborate explanation of this game because of the performance issue. I will give it a try again later and see if I can get the performance issue resolved and then write more about this game and then make a post if its fun or just another unity engine slop. <Erenshor Another unity engine slop shit with untextured low poly hipster shit style. So right within the first 5 minutes I had issues with the camera control turning so god awful slow and for some stupid reason the player movement is as fast as sonic which is not what I'd except out of a RPG game. Just alone the art style of this game is fucking terrible. And the way quest interaction works with this game is a big no for me, like instead of just giving me a list of options of what I can do with a NPC the game excepts me to write down the keywords to interact with the NPC, so that means I would have no fucking clue what the fuck I am supposed to write just to progress further in the dialog. This is complete bullshit. <Hammerwatch II A 2D RPG game. I played this game for almost 2 hours and it looks alright. The combat system is pretty nice, I can use both bows and swords and there are quite a lot of enemies for a RPG game to kill. But I have some issues with navigation. The game doesn't provide any means for me to figure out where the fuck I am supposed to go, yes I know I am supposed to read the quest log and find my way that way but it doesn't even come with a proper radar/map system which means it is going for me to be hard to figure out where I am supposed to haul my ass at and then going to the next destination point. On Morrowind I often could finish quests more or less because Morrowind does this no quest tracker at least properly, but this game? Man I am getting lost. For example I have a quest where I am supposed to use a red dye to mark down signs because of wolves and so far I managed to mark down only 2 or 3 sign posts and I couldn't find the other signs that I need to interact with for this quest, because I am not given any fucking map so that I have some clues where I am supposed to go next. <Coromon I played this game for 4 hours. It plays like a classic Pokemon clone game despite instead of pokeballs you have a disc with retractable poles or however they are called. It offers some few game play options which lets me fine tune the game more so thats already a plus for me. Though the game does feels a little bit too grindy for my taste, I'm trying to level up my fire monster which is around level 12 or 14 I forget to at least level 20 so that my fire monster can 1-2 shot other low level shitters. Though for being a turn based 2D monster collection game, it comes also with the annoying random encounters shit. I don't mind random encounters but I fucking hate it when it comes in the form of "move around in a spot and you get a encounter" that tends to plague RPG games like these because those fucking game developer couldn't program in a much smoother random encounter system.

<Wigmund Just going off of the google images, it looks a little like Torchlight and Torchlight 2. They're both top-down RPGs that are isometric dungeon looters which you might enjoy since neither are incredibly difficult and (at least for T2) allow you to experiment with any kind of weapons you pick up, although combat is mostly through using abilities and spells you unlock. Feels very nice constantly picking up new weapons and armor and watching your health and damage continue to climb progressively. Not too story-heavy and easy to drop in and out of too, so it's easy to just pick up and play. <Unreal Tournament 1999 and 2004 >Devil Daggers Purely combat based game where you run around an arena shooting progressively more difficult waves of enemies. Addictive and easy to get into but by extension very little depth beyond the basic gameplay loop. >DUSK Another retro-style FPS but more level and campaign based than an arena shooter. Still think this might be a good match if you like UT since it's very fast-paced and kept reminding me of UT when I played it a few years back. Lot of variety in weapons and some very striking and unique level designs. Also, it doesn't really compare to a lot of the games you listed but have you tried Borderlands or Borderlands 2? They're probably the most famous looter shooters out there and if you really want to just kill shit and see numbers go up they'd be a perfect match.
>>1415811 >Wigmund is a action RPG game huh then I wondered why I don't respawn then if its supposed to play similar to Torchlight 1 and 2 both games which have finished long time ago. I haven't gotten around playing the newer Torchlight games yet. I guess it's a good excuse to give it another try then. >Devil Daggers I've heard of this game but I'm not really fond of the idea that you have only one weapon available, kinda goes contrary to a FPS/TPS games where you have at least a small arsenal of weapons. >Dusk I'm gonna give it a try then, even though one of my friends said that Dusk sucks because it tries to use PS1/Quake 1 aesthetic. I also played before Strafe but didn't liked it, the movement of the player speed is too slow for me which makes it almost impossible to dodge the mobs projectiles. The intro at first confused me, I thought I could pick up all 3 weapons from the beginning but I ended up getting the sniper rifle so I had to restart the game and pick another gun instead, I think I picked the shotgun for the next run. >Borderlands 1 I played that long time ago, but I can't remember it anymore which part I stopped at. >Borderlands 2 Yeah I own a legit copy of this game, but I got annoyed I couldn't install mods for it and the assault rifle which is my main weapon is heavily scuffed, like it really sucks ass to fire assault rifle weapons. If I could install somehow a mod for it which unfucks the assault rifle then I would play that game again. I forget to mention I'd like to read also some bit of story background of the games, I do pay attention to the cutscenes from games i.e I don't skip it assuming its the first time I see it, despite I may have alzheimer condition where I can't remember for shit what stroy has been told so far. >Valheim I played this game for a bit of time. It is a open world procedural viking game. I played I think at least 1 or 2 week of it, but then a new Valheim update got dropped and my shit got fucked up, I couldn't load my old world anymore since the button to start the game got broken somehow. Now I tried setting up a new game with R2 Mod Manager and this time a different run with other sets of mods but for some stupid reason this fucking program keeps throwing a error with starting modded version of Valheim.

>>1425896 ty I noted it down. I will fiddle around with UT later, right now I am trying to mod GZDoom instead which is for me much easier. >>1426863 Madison Fletcher. It's the owl girl.
>>1410369 Are you okay with RPGs which have characters that are predefined? Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5 both have an archer and a swordsman, but the games are more shitposty and lighthearted even with some fucked up shit, rather than serious like Oblivion. EBF3 and on has a gunner. The classic collection only have a mage and swordsman, but the dev was only 19 at the time so it wasn't as defined. Keep in mind, these games were coded in Flash, and 3+ is very impressive with what it does with the engine.
>>1428568 >Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5 hmmm I guess I could give it a shot at least, but since its made in flash how I am supposed to play it under Linux? I have raffle installed but raffle doesn't support the latest version of flash yet, only older versions of it. >the devs were 19 when they made a game Not bad, I think at that age I didn't made any mods yet, only fucked around with Wings3D.
>>1428589 You don't need the latest Ruffle install, because EBF4 was made in 2014 and EBF5 in 2018 (The first ones were made in 2009), there's also an .exe version included with Steam, and I've heard it's functional so long as you play in windowed mode. I don't know if fullscreen was patched on Linux yet, or if it's all distros.
> For RPG games I'd would like to have the ability to use a bow and a sword basically and not being limited to only 1 weapon type like how it is common with other RPG games. That's AstLibra. A 2D RPG made by one guy over 15 years, it really is worth the hype. I've played and cleared it fully twice now. What about a Musou? You can usually use different weapons types associated with different characters to find one you like. One Piece, Berserk, Dynasty Warriors for example. There's also classic Mount and Blade. A few of the mods for Warband might be time to sink into. You could also try the Owlcat Pathfinder games but that system is hard to get into if you don't know what you're doing. Fable Anniversary has swords and bows. >I'm primarily interested in FPS and RPG games Valkyria? 1 and 4 are on steam. Automata is this strange hybrid too. For shooters, Ghost Recon Future Soldier is underrated. Binary Domain is a Sega third person shooter that's amazing >>1419282
>>1428595 Oh okay looks like I may be able to run it via Proton/Lutris then. >>1428797 Hmmm, doesn't valkriya have bullshit balance like you only need to use scouts in order to win a battle because of how fucking OP they are? I may be misremembering but that's what I have read about this game. As for the rest of the games I guess I can look up some videos of it and pirate it later. >AstLibra Well I hope it has a lot of content then if its developed for about 15 years >Classic Mount and Blade Is it the game where you lead a army and have to manage them? >Fable Anniversary has swords and bows I often hear about this game from anons that they say its shit. >Ghost Recon Future Soldier A tactical shooter game huh? I can't remember the last time I played one. Well I played hideous destructor for doom before but that mod is awfully brutal. >Musou Hmmm, never played those games. I watched a stream of it though where Vextra was playing one piece game of it.

>>1410369 <Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. It's a linear (afaik, I've only played the first few levels) first person RPG hybrid on the source engine. The working title was The Adventures of Sir Kicksaloot Deathboot. It's HL2 meets Swords and Sorcery. Kill orcs with physics traps. You'll probably have to fuck with the bink video player dll and/or console variables to get it working but there are plenty of solutions with a quick search.
>>1433182 Thanks for the links anon, I noted it down again. I did managed to make a few custom weapons using default weapon models of UT2004 and changed their stats so that they are stronger and play better on rat maps but I also disabled the altfire mode because I couldn't figure out how to make the alt fire part become better too for big maps since it used a more complicated scripting that I don't understand. And I couldn't figure out either how to make a custom mutator where the player spawns with new sets of weapons and replacing existing items. >>1433208 I've seen a video of it where the player was just kicking everything down with the foot

OP, please tell us what games you've already played and what you liked so that we can give proper recommendations. I'm just going to assume you're already familiar with the most popular ones and like RPGs with sandbox elements. I recommend the following games based on information you've provided so far. >Terraria It's one of the best games I ever played. While it's not technically an RPG it has that satisfying progression, immersion and tons of mods. I say that as someone who doesn't like 2D platformers. >Ashes 2063 This is a very good FPS series set in a Fallout-like world with awesome atmosphere and music. >Pokemon Gaia I don't know how familiar you are with romhacks and fan games but there are a lot of them. >F.E.A.R. >Deus Ex >VTM Bloodlines I'm just mentioning these in case you haven't played them yet which seems to get more common. >Dishonored I think it's a decent game that allows a lot of innovation. >>1435852 >Dark Messiah This game should be right up your alley. >>1428797 Is there a good way to search for these type of games?
>>1445401 Well here is the games I finished so far: Done: RA2 + YR expansion Soviet Campaign Total Annihilation: Arm, Core + Core Contigency Empires Battle for Dune, Harkonenn Red Faction 1 Serious Sam 1 TSE Max Payne 1 Stalker: SHoC, CoP UFO Aftershock, Aftermath Recoil Earth 2140, ED Earth 2160, ED Sudden Strike 2, Germany Torchlight 1 Torchlight 2 -Call of Pripyat: -Winds of Time Yeah it's not a lot of games since I noted that down a few years ago, despite I've been gaming since I was a kid. >OP, please tell us what games you've already played and what you liked so that we can give proper recommendations. I will still be spending time with GZDoom first, because I want to work on my doom weapon mod, I have a lot of shit to go through which I regularly post on the agdg thread here. Geh I don't feel like doing more coding work and trying to add more complicated features because coding in GZDoom is fucking ass, especially when it comes to GUI coding. But working on Godot will take even more time because I need to do everything from scratch instead of using Doom as a modding platform. Hmm, I guess I look through those UT resources instead once I made enough progress with my GZDoom mods and make some UT content instead, uhhh now If i could only figure out if I can use Blender to export the models into UT, I used a pirated version of 3DS max before to add in some janky tanks, but I don't have 3DS max installed anymore.

>>1463899 >So this AI knows more about Unreal Script than Gemini and ChatGPT I got it to write a tutorial on making custom species so that the modded characters would use those jump, pain, & death sounds instead of the default voices because most modders didn't bother to implement them as a little detail. From what it explained to me, the process sounded right to what I remembered doing. You can also see the places it sources its info from in the source tab. >uhhh now If i could only figure out if I can use Blender to export the models into UT It should be doable because there's a plugin for it now that imports & exports the meshes & animations from, as the description claims, many versions of the Unreal Engine. >>1463997 >I got it to write a tutorial on making custom species Sounds good. I hope this AI will be useful for me in making mutators and weapon code. I wonder if it could also do a system for persistent inventory and shop system too, that would be awesome, and some code to make the custom weapons work with bots too since it would be kinda pointless to make a custom weapon mod and it doesn't work for botmatches. Happened to me with a few weapon mods where it goes absolutely bonkers when used by the bots. >It should be doable because there's a plugin for it now that imports & exports the meshes & animations from, as the description claims, many versions of the Unreal Engine. Link: https://extensions.blender.org/add-ons/io-scene-psk-psa/ Also good, if the plugin works with UT2004 then I should have little trouble. Well I do have this problem that the UT2004 editor is terrible glitchy on my end, no matter what Wine or Proton version I'm using, for example the texture window won't let me select the textures at all and instead selects different textures which is not what I'm clicking on. I don't understand why the editor is awfully buggy. And the other bug I have with UT2004 that its resolution gets fucked up everytime I alt tab so I have to change the resolution on the options menu every time I alt tab which is fucking annoying. I did managed to add a single custom model weapon on UT99 with a old plugin with Blender and using only UMake, I didn't used the UT99 editor to make packages for the models and scripts. Since UMake packages everything into the compiled .u file, which means sounds and models gets added into it too and I think other stuff too, haven't tested it at all. >>1463966 And Gamebyro is a god awfull terrible engine. Fucking Oblivion Remaster went full retard, they used both Unreal Engine and Gamebryo to make this remaster, like why. So it means even Oblivion Remaster will be stuck with 255 plugin limit due to this bullshit.

I don't understand why the editor is awfully buggy. Think it's a known problem & there's probably not a fix to make it less buggy because Epic never bothered to make a Linux binary for the Editor or update it like they did for the game. So you're probably stuck with having to make a little Windows VM for just the Editor. >And the other bug I have with UT2004 that its resolution gets fucked up everytime I alt tab so I have to change the resolution on the options menu every time I alt tab which is fucking annoying. You should be able to set a fixed resolution in the UT2004.ini file. Otherwise, you'll have to play in borderless windowed mode. Another suggestion if UE2 is too much of a headache to work with, and game recommendations too: The Serious Sam games, powered by Serious Engine. The source code for Serious Engine 1 was released 10 years ago by Croteam under the GNU GPL v2 license, so there's been efforts to get the old games ported to Linux. https://github.com/tx00100xt/SeriousSamClassic https://github.com/tx00100xt/SeriousSamClassic-VK Only messed around with Serious Engine 3 though so I can't vouch for how good the original engine is, especially as the newer games don't have Linux ports & instead have to run on Wine/Proton. A quick glance at the Wine site claims they're playable. I'm not sure how well documented the Serious Engine is now, but there have been character & weapon mods made for the games so I don't see why you couldn't also try to make some there too.
>>1464158 >UT2004 Editor Yeah figured out as much. Last time I checked about open source version of old UT games their support was only like "dude just use UE3/4 lmao". Yeah what a great help from them, assholes. Well for UT99 there is surreal engine on the works, not really on a playable state yet but it does give me hope that at the very least I could make mods for UT99 instead. UT99 maps looks just as nice if not nicer just because of the lightning system they used back then. Link: https://github.com/dpjudas/SurrealEngine >Serious Sam Man I played that shit a lot back when I was kid, mostly on coop servers and I think sometimes single player mode too. But now with my current age I don't have the patience anymore for the difficult fight that Serious Sam has, like there a bunch of laser/rocket mechs being spawned and then kleers and bulls who charge at you and it's just too much for me. I don't have any issue with running this game in Proton and I own the whole classic Serious Sam collection + Classic Revolution and HD Fusion versions on Steam. Hmmm I am not too sure if I want to make mods for Serious Engine series, I mean it uses Lua which may be much easier to work with then figuring out Unreal Script which is loosely based upon Java/Javascript (don't know which one exactly). I think I still can make mods for UT2004 and I just need the Umake tool and the Blender export plugin for that which you gave me already for it. So no need to fuck around with the buggy UT editor. I would rather prefer making mods for UT because it has more of a replay value than Serious Sam. I mean Serious Sam does offer a bit of replayable value too but well a linear monster shooter and a arena shooter are 2 different things. For classic Serious Sam there is a active small Russian community going on who are still making maps, dunno about if they do mods too. But I don't speak Russian so it would be a language barrier for me to try understand all the Russian languages being used in their custom maps. I have no idea if I have to use Milkshape 3D in order to export to old model formats, last time I used Milkshape 3D it did not worked for me, maybe things changed. I will try to download Milkshape 3D again later and see if I can get it to work this time with Proton. I have also the Noesis tool program which can export to a bunch of different model formats for old-ish games, including even GLTF model format.

If the Blender plugin linked earlier works as intended for importing & exporting Unreal Engine formats, then it could eliminate the need for using Milkshape 3D. That program hasn't seen an updated release since 2013. Should be ok to run the last verison (1.8.5 Beta 2) of it on Wine as they gave it a 'gold' rating, but they were using Wine 2.12. Milkshape 3D 1.8.4 was given a 'platinum' rating with them using Wine 5.7 >Krystal picrel There's a mod of her for UT2004 that has her models ripped from Adventures & Assault.
>>1464209 >Milkshape/Blender Well Milkshape could serve as a fallback program in case the Blender unreal plugin doesn't work for me. >Krystal Yeah I have download the first model I think but not the one where she wears a suit. There is even one Krystal model available for UT99 too but it doesn't feature custom sounds which sucks.
>>1464209 >>1464158 >>1463997 Do you happen to have a Download link for Milkshape 3D please? I wanna give my go with UT99 modding first, since UT99 linux version runs better than UT2004 linux version.
>>1490053 Latest version (1.8.5 Beta 2) http://www.milkshape3d.com/ You'll need a serial number to remove the free trial nagware. Don't know if they exist for that version, but they do for Beta 1 & 1.8.4. I am not sure if the keys are shared between versions.
>>1490656 I found it a cracked version here: https://kippykip.com/threads/milkshape-3d-1-8-4-serials-keygen.213/ wew wtf kek I thought I wouldn't be able to find a cracked version of this program on duckduckgo.
