I'd suggest going through Ross's (accursed farns) big game list. I think you guys will like a lot of the stuff there: https://www.accursedfarms.com/games/ One of the games is Ultracop, made by a south african developer. It emulates the aesthetic of late 90s-early 2000s small to mid budget 3D games pretty well I think.

This is only tangentially related to this thread's topic, but are there any modern RPGs that are on the shorter side? I can't stand how much padding most modern RPGs have, both Eastern and Western. It makes them painful to play after a while. I don't trust any RPG that's longer than 20 or 30 hours to not be 90% busywork.

It's a short and sweet enough story about a cute little witch girl and her adventures in search for her mother. As for games more fitting to the thread name. There's always the classic FNAF games, which shouldn't take you more than a few hours to beat night 5 of. Very trial-and-error learn as you go kind of games though. Most shorter horror games you can find all over the place will fit the bill though, the trick is finding good ones.
