RTS but Chill City Town builders Anonymous 07/20/2025 (Sun) 00:15:20 Id: af9215 No. 1583395
When I was a kid I loved spending hours building things in rts games but the problem is that these were always focused on war and not on economics or aesthetics. there were not many options focused on decorating or a sandbox, it was limited by rounds, time or the campaigns or resources that are limited and not infinite. I used to create beatiful cities in AoE singleplayer play and editor mode I don't like Simcity bacause is too modern and less fantasy or medieval. I still remember the era of flash games like this that were on facebook. >Also Is there any game that's a partially rts and city or town builder with fantasy or medieval features that is chill to play? something to see activity in the city or town or inside houses-craft-shops as if they were peasents from the settlers. The closest games doing something like this I found was >The Settlers >Spellforce >Cultures: The Discovery of Vinland >Rise and Fall: Civilizations at war >Stronghold >Beasts and Bumpkins >Black and white >Knights and Merchants >Heroes of Might and Magic >Anno >Aoe >Spore >AoE: Mythologies >0 A.D. >World Box I listen to suggestions about other videogames or mods.
>>1583395 I'll post the only two I know by heart that haven't been mentioned, this was my mother's favorite genre when I was growing up, I personally never *got* it outside of screwing around with custom maps for 20 minutes at a time back then.
>>1583639 Tropico series is still going strong. If you want a management, Evil Genius might be a good pick. Majesty and Gold. gold, adventure gold also play like a simulation. The Anno series is another good one. First mission in 1404 is about building a cathedral. Give Banished a try too, that game made it cool again to make city builders. The genre kinda died in the late 2000s but in 2013 that game came out and was such a marvelously simple game that I'm sure (trust me bro) it inspired Frostpunk.

>>1583639 >Tropico Reminds me I had a copy of Sim Isle as a kid but I never could seem to get it to work half the time and then when I could I just didn't understand how to progress with it. I was expecting SC 2000 but tropical and I have an inkling that's not what the game is.
Literally the best genre. Dead. Curse the stupidity of modern gaymers. I know the setting isn't as epic as the others, but my go to is OpenRCT2.

I loved the building phase at the start of a Warcraft III game, but I hate the actual gameplay of Warcraft III. Around 14 years later Frostpunk came out, which is basically the resource gathering and building phase of a War3, but for the whole game. The issue here is that it has no RTS element and has a Victorian England aesthetic. It's also more of a survival game than a genuine city builder.
>>1584651 There are some custom survival maps for WC3 where you build up a town and try to survive against waves.
Frostpunk is too rushed, because it has a story which is forced to advance according to a clock. That's not chill. I'll win when I want to win. Bitch.
>>1584748 Did you play the launch version? It had multiple expansions and a lot of post-launch support. If you get the GOTY Edition, the game has an endless mode with multiple maps. GOTY Edition is 8 bucks at the moment, if you're a buyfag
>>1584897 Endless mode is just cyclical cold storms and randomized exploration phases. It can't change the fundamental on-rails nature of the game. Not to rag too hard on frostpunk. All us RTS/sim fans are eating alternative food source lately. The problem is the genre died and fragmented in a bunch of directions. The main lineage became MOBA which ... FUCK MOBA. Then you have your nostalgia remakes, where you can relive command & conquer, Dune, AoE, Startopia, or Sierra's city builders, but I'm not really looking for nostalgia. Something new or evolutionary would be nice. Minecraft. Strong on the building aspect, but it's digital Lego. The underlying simulation is extremely shallow. Finally you have your autism maximizers like Factorio/Satisfactory/modded Minecraft. I'd have to be literally 12yo with infinite time and infinite autism, and nothing better to do to enjoy this. They're just too much like work. know exactly what OP means, but it's like we lost the sauce to make this type of game.

>>1585010 >know exactly what OP means, but it's like we lost the sauce to make this type of game. Hi, OP here Thanks to all for the help anons well, maybe the chill city builder just... no longer exists anymore. >>1584651 >I loved the building phase at the start of a Warcraft III game same, but i I did not mention it because it is very rts focused but I admit that I really liked the constructions. other i dont mentioned are Rise of Nations and Rise of legend Well, actually i enjoyed every rts with beautiful with fantasy or historical constructions like even empire earth. Other game not related to rts/city build that i enjoyed was King Arthur's Gold 1 and 2 but it's more a medieval battefield online sandbox with some team fortress 2 or gang garrinson vibe.
>>1583639 From the same devs of Pharaoh there's <<Zeus: Master of Olympus>> with expansion packs. The mechanics are very similar afaik, but the art, music, missions, and mythology are really good. Along with Stronghold2 it's my top pick. Dwarf Fortress might also count, they did a UI overhaul recently to make it more accessible.

>>1583395 >no mention of Seven Kingdoms Come on now. Sure, it's lacking detail (it's more of Civilization in real time, so it's about settlements and forts), but damn it's comfy to just build and do politics or observe AI fights each other. Btw. the first game is totally free to download and still has a small community that makes updates/fixes to it. https://7kfans.com/
>>1620564 Unless you specifically wanted TOWN builders, then excuse my retardation.
