Today I want to talk about Kayoko's hair. Kayoko has short, two-tone hair. Her frontmost and backmost parts are black, while her center is white. Assuming that this is dyed, it's possible that Kayoko's natural hair color is white and she dyes the ends black. I believe it's the other way around, though- black is her natural hair color, and white is dyed. It could also simply be how her hair is, another example of the Mystic forming the student's appearance. Kayoko's ponytail is unique in that she "tied" her hair up with her horns. This does provide Kayoko a unique layer of intimidation, because her black hair points to her intimidating face, or to her horns, potentially further intimidating students from outside the academy. Her hair is wavy yet straight, likely because she takes care of her hair- I wouldn't put it past Kayoko to know good ways to take care of her hair while on the lam. She exudes an air of veterancy, probably because of her being very relaxed in how she holds herself normally, but that relaxed posture can surprise when she's ready to fight. The metal jacket definitely helps further the intimidation factor, and is likely also practical, as I'm pretty sure that's where she puts her gun's suppressor when she has it holstered.
Her New Year's outfit has her hair being familiar yet quite different. It's familiar in that the frontmost part is still black, as is the backmost part. However, her two-tone hair is now a gradient for her backmost hair, implying that this is how Kayoko's hair looks when she puts it down. Her bangs are also quite different- instead of a line in the center pointing at her face, it's now a more conventional right-swept style, with her left bangs being held together by hairclips. She also has a flower accessory in her hair, a unique softness to her outfit. Her face is still relaxed and neutral, providing her a pokerface which likely intimidates her adversaries because she doesn't give much of anything away. Her kimono is surprisingly bold- most kivotos kimonos have floral patterns on them, but hers are more geometric. That's not to say she has no flowers whatsoever, though- they're on heer yellow sash. Perhaps it's a subtle softness that she's showing, or a clever way to indicate that she has a soft side past her thorny exterior? It's certainly an outfit that lends itself better to petting cats than her base outfit- at least, if someone were to see both outfits.
Kayoko's dress outfit takes inspiration from both her normal attire and her new year's attire. Once again, her frontmost hair has an almost helmet-like appearance to it, but her back is a gradient of white to black, tied in the back with a hairbow, and her front has her using hairclips to keep her bangs from potentially getting in her eyes. It's possible that Kayoko's front hair has some comfort factor in it, or maybe she has her hair two-tone and tied up so that way she can more effectively headbang? It's not like she can headbang now, she is on a mission. Her hair also seems to be back-length going by the hair styles she's worn. Once again, she has a relaxed posture, but she also only reveals what's necessary- even her posture has her looking away. It's a very mysterious air, much like how her right sleeve hides something, and her left is baggy enough that she could similarly hide something in it. It's very dangerous, but clever- I hope she cleans up after herself if she does any dirty work! She also has a uniquely alluring design this time around, with her upper part of her dress providing just enough to potentially see a cleavage, as well as her mole and collarbone. Her bottom half is similarly deceptive, as the dress has a gap that points up to a diamond gap, implying that she's showing her underwear- it's very scandalous for a dress, yet somehow it's the bold statement that only Kayoko would be willing to make.
Her operator uniform is pretty similar to her normal outfit- tied ponytail with horns, helmet hair with her black central bangs. The tie she wears feels much like the rest of her design- a piercing darkness in defiance of the light's all-encompassing reach. She's not a bad girl, but she's definitely not the type who would take shit from people.
Kayoko is an intriguing character- she's as calm as the dead, with a gun that can wake the dead. Even then, she has a surprising soft side for her fellow clubmates, cats, and Sensei. Her being one of the few adults in Kivotos, along with how she seems to wear any outfit she puts on naturally, gives her that air of being a veteran like she's done things before. She is a student who I would never want to deal with in a card game- she gives away nothing, but can probably turn on just a bit of a mean face and intimidate into folding. Despite being in PS68, she definitely keeps good care of her hair, probably to help her better manipulate her hair if she's ever needed to go on a stealth mission. As for how her hair smells, she might be one of the few students who'd have multiple scents to more accurately match the situation, but they'd all be mature. She does seem like she'd have a rosey smell to her hair, but I can't help but feel like there's something else with it that I can't put my finger on...
