Today I want to talk about Tomoe's hair. To try and make this more interesting, I will refrain from naming certain characters- this is about the public speaker, not the topic of her speeches.
Tomoe has long mauve hair that, when it's untied, appears to go down to her calves, mainly on account of her hair being tied really low and thus not being altered by her hair being tied as much as other students who put their hair up in such a way to artificially shorten it. Her hair is in a twin braid that's very large and loose compared to other braids, likely done to be stylish, practical and relatively easy to do, as is her hair's ends holding the braids with two furry balls as opposed to making another level of braid. This actually gives Tomoe a unique balance that most other students don't have- the upper third of her hair is her head region, and it's the part that shines the most of all three, while also being arguably the straightest of all three. Sure, there's some subtle disorder here and there if you really look, but that's easily explained with her hair generally being loose and able to breathe, a marked juxtaposition to her clothes, which are a lot closer to her. Her loose hair and close clothes gives her a specific stance that conveys confidence in her ability to look natural and loose, easy like honey, yet her clothes being close to her with a book and miniature tie having Red Winter's emblem on it gives her the appearance of someone who knows her subject well. Even the rifle being carried offers a calm confidence from her wielding it with one hand, yet able to quickly quell dissenters, before appearing like nothing is amiss. I would go so far as to make the audacious assertion that Tomoe may be one of the most successful students with her speeches- a good orator can charismatically convey a countless quantity of information, but a great orator will have their speeches be remembered through technique- Tomoe's typical technique is repetition, yes, but it would be unsurprising for her to have other methods she uses in her speeches, like limerick or cadence. Additionally, her hat and its ribbon is once again meant to not only be practical to handle the cold, but also to be fasionable- in this case, it also lets her appear to be both less important in the federal office, but also let her attract attention on the podium- like Kotori's glasses, but more subtle. Finally going back to her oratory prowess, this might not seem like much but seeing both her ears gives her a clear appearance that she is not just a good speaker, but also a good listener, which is important considering the adage that a good communicator listens more than speaks.
Tomoe's qipao does a few things. First, it shows that halos will actually move out of the way if a hat would occupy its space, which is important to remember if we ever get a student who has a really big hat, doubly so if it seems weird that it's so far on the side. The second thing it shows is that her hair's color is surprisingly enigmatic. Some would claim that it's more purple, while others will swear until they themselves are purple that it's pink. Mauve is the best answer to satisfy both parties, but looking at it more closely, there's a possible explanation for this. When someone looks at Tomoe and her normal outfit, she typically wears a hat. Not only that, but it's very clear that her hair shines a lot more in her normal sprite than her qipao outfit. But that's not to say that Tomoe is indoors in her qipao all the time- far from it, in fact. Instead, she's wearing hairbuns as opposed to her hat- that's what's doing it. Because her hair normally interacts with the white of her clothes more often, the brain is actually making her hair appear more like a purple, but if she's not wearing as much on her head, then her hair can appear closer to a pink. Of course, this rule isn't universal- there are times a pink haired tomoe can appear, just like how a purple haired Qipao Tomoe can appear. At the end of the day, meeting in the middle and saying it's mauve is the most efficient.
Onto Qipao Tomoe's hair- her hair is tied up behind her head, which is quite impressive and shows a dexterity to her hands that would otherwise be unknown. On top of that, her hairbuns provide her a look that would fit in Shanhaijing naturally, showing her to be quite adaptable, while also heeding the proverb that "when in Rome, do as the Romans do".
Tomoe's hair is one of the few hairs in Red Winter that has incredible effort put into it, perhaps the most. Not only does it appear very clean, it also indirectly assists her body language, giving an air of calm confidence- the sort of body language that could fight a bear and win. The surprising part is that she only uses fasion products when travelling abroad, like in her qipao. Her hair seems like it would normally just smell like other Red Winter students, with an added sweet scent, but going by her qipao, she definitely seems like she'd have a nice rosey scent to her hair.
