Today I wonder if the wheel has it out for me as it gives me Makoto just three days after Hina. Aside from that, I want to talk about the only student who, to my knowledge, sometimes has an afro.
The Honored One has incredibly long and wavy/curly dark gray hair that goes down to the ground... If the wind let it, that is. Yes, Hanuma Makoto is another student that has the wind carry some of the weight of the hair, but unlike Hina, her coat is actually in place. Her bangs cover her right eye, making the left eye appear more expressive than normal.
While her hair lives up to the name "Pandemonium Society" in how long and free it is, there's actually something interesting with said hair, though it might only be a fluke. Her upper bangs are normally hidden by her hat, but Makoto's dress outfit reveals that her hair has a black highlight in it. The afro could also potentially hide it due to said highlight flying into it. Naturally, there are some possibilities regarding this. The first is that it's simply put into her hair for style, or to make her stand out. That's reasonable, and would explain why the fankit with the Society has this detail absent, as well as why it doesn't show up in the afro, or any possible slips from her hat which may happen from time to time. The more interesting theory is that her sharing this detail with Kayoko means that there is a connection between the two, most likely based on the Thunder Emperor. They're both 18, so even if that part might not be true, it would not surprise me if Kayoko and Makoto actually go back. This is a mystery that will hopefully be explained sometime in the future, but is not the place for me to speculate further on other than those two possibilities in the hair analysis.
Back to Makoto's dress hair, she puts it into a ponytail that, due to it once again being a wild hairstyle, gives her a wild beauty kind of look. It fits very well with that feather accessory that might be holding the ponytail in place, as well as her bangs being swept and only partially obstructing her eye. The fact that she also has her bangs on the right asymmetrical adds further to this look, making her right side appear very dominant, aided further by that mysterious black highlight.
Makoto sometimes has an afro. I don't really know what to add to this? It's interesting that her bangs don't also get added to the afro, making her hair have a weird juxtaposition. Is it straight, is it curly? Probably a mix of both!
To quickly go over Makoto's beta sprite, I think it's pretty similar to modern Makoto in look, but also has a look close to Hina's, especially in how it's posed. There's too much action, and that similarity that Makoto has with Hina in the action pose honestly makes them too similar. The coat is a lot closer to Hina's, too. Her bust is bigger in the beta, and last but not least, her hair is too stringy. Makoto's current iteration of hair in being a very wild yet thick mess fits her, it makes her seem big and proud, while the beta hair is more cool and collected.
Makoto's horns and her halo seem like a good way to wrap this section up. The horns are where her and Hina share another similarity, in that they're the only two students in Gehenna that have four horns. While Hina's are more outward-facing, Makoto's curl inwards. It might seem strange to say, but the upper of the two feel a bit like seeing someone raise their hands. That's definitely not the intent, though, and it's most likely closer to them being like a crown, towering over others, showing her rule. Another thing her dress outfit does that's strange, likely meant more as vanity as opposed to creating a link between her and Kayoko, is that her horns have what appears to be three gold buttons on the midsection. This instead opens up a potential discussion about horns in Gehenna and potential fashion applications but, like the linked lock of hair, is not the perspective of this. The lower of the two horns complement the higher of the two, appearing mostly straight but slightly curving up. Near the end, they become blood red, giving a ferocious and mighty look to Makoto. It's actually a little bit scary, which fits Makoto's style very well!
Makoto's halo is an odd one to describe. The easy and lazy explanation is an upside down anchor, which does do a good enough job at indirectly detailing Makoto's style. To be more detailed, though, it's a shooting crimson star, leaving an unholy trail behind it. The sides are like bladed arms, the ends reaching to oblivion, and above is a classical halo, pierced by two mighty horns. This is Hanuma Makoto, and this is The Honored One.
Despite the fact her hair is another case of Gehenna having fluffy and even wild hair, she takes good care of it going by how it has a sheen in her dress outfit. Somehow, brushing it seems like an exercise in futility, but would still be fun. However, I get the feeling that she would not be fine with her hair getting brushed at all, and would only begrudgingly accept it if her hair was in an afro shape, but also not wanting to go back down. It would certainly be an interesting time to hear her stories, likely all given some flair to appear more heroic, but a fun and unique experience. Makoto's hair smells like victory. In more reasonable language, consider how the gardens of Gehenna smell on a windy spring day.
