Today I want to talk about Ui and her hair. Ui has straight(?) black hair that, when let loose, goes down to her calves. The type of hair Ui has might be incorrect due to how unique Ui's specific hairstyle is. Ui ties her hair with two purple ribbons in a twintail fashion, though her hair bows somewhat. A constant through her outfits is that she wears a purple hairband. It's only constant in that it's something she wears in both outfits, as there is a slight difference between the two outside of their color. Before that, Ui's bangs are incredibly long, going down to her chest. It's possible, but unlikely, that she plays with her hair, sincie her work as an archivist likely requires her hands to be clean (and a stray hair in a book would probably have her quite upset).
Ui's swimsuit has her hair tidied up and in a big bushy ponytail, though said tidying up was certainly an effort. The hairband that I mentioned before has a looser grid pattern compared to her normal appearance, where it's more diagonal than it is squares. Realistically, though, they're meant to be the same, since her eyes share the same tint and color as her hairband in both appearances, suggesting that the actual color of her apparel is brighter than it would seem. Even her hair is a bit brighter, which is a good touch to detail. Ui ties her hair with a single ribbon instead of two, since that wouldn't make much sense. The hairband gives her pseudo airvents for her hair, too.
I will use the percieved colors instead of the probable actual colors for Ui's normal outfit to make things easier to understand.
The first, and most important, part about Ui's outfit, is her slippers. These show a level of introversion that is matched, maybe even surpassed, by Yuzu! For her daily, normal outfit is one that she wears without any intent to go outdoors! They're a simple light brown with ribbons on top, as well as being fluffy soft inside. Her outfit is very similar to her footwear in how she chooses comfortable fabrics, loathing errant breezes that chill her. Her serafuku is white with yellow on the collar and a purple scarf, suggesting that she wears a very bright school uniform, though the black turtleneck contrasts this while also making her necklace more obvious. It's likely a simple brass piece, possibly holding something dear to her inside as a locket, or perhaps simply just being a brass necklace, making her feel slightly pious in spite of her stated opposition to the church. Her sweater is likely only worn in the library. It's a brown piece with darker brown, likely wooden, buttons. It has braided patterns going up the length of it where her pockets begin. Her right pocket contains something within, likely a pair of glasses. The sides of it has ribbons, possibly serving no function other than decoration. The turtleneck reveals itself on the left arm, and the right shows this coat as slightly oversized on her (and all the more comfy for it). She carries a tome in her left, likely meant to be vague and ever-changing as she works on different projects. Much like Hare, she lazily holds her gun by the strap, not caring too much that it's dragging along the floor. Unlike Hare, the butt of her gun is being dragged along the floor, likely because that suppressor is custom-made and incredibly expensive for her to get a replacement of. It shows that she cares about her realm the most.
Ui's swimsuit is a simple two-piece black bikini, likely the first thing that she found that didn't make her immediately reject it. Even so, she covers herself with a black sweater, this one likely not meant for the seas, but is at least more water-tolerant than her normal attire. Her sandals are incredibly simple, with bandaids on her ankles suggesting that the shoes she normally wears digs into her (likely because of how much she wears her slippers insteaad). Of course, the suitcase that is likely heavier than her is worth mentioning, allowing her to not shirk her duties as an archivist even on vacation. The pillar to the left of Ui does a good job at making it clear who Ui is. An archivist is a form of a historian.
I wanted to say that Ui has good hair. I wanted to say it's at least passable, and try to make a case for it. But I really can't, that would be denying the facts in front of me. And the fact is that, while Ui DOES make an effort to look presentable in social occasions, the fact is that her ability to shut-in at the library, as well as her incredibly introverted and passionate nature to her work, leads to her hair care taking a hit. This is another situation where she's in the same league as Yuzu. The dubious honor of which one is "stinkier" is likely a debate topic that philosophers could argue until the students graduate. Yuzu, for example, shares company with the GDD, as well as being in Millennium; two big points going for her, as Millennium, despite having some of the cleanest rooms in Kivotos, does not have the cleaner students compared to Trinity. However, Yuzu, on account of her having part time jobs, means that she likely cleans up whenever she's ready to go to such a thing. There is also the GDD manga which, while it can be debated on if it's as canon as event stories, does show that she cares about her cleanliness. Ui, on the other hand, is from Trinity, known for its cleanliness, even if it's indirectly. Ui also has Shimiko as something of an anchor to the rest of the world for her. However, unlike Yuzu, Ui shows no indication of even working part-time jobs (even if in Yuzu's case it's to help raise money for the club), leading to the real possibility that Ui would, if allowed to do so, stay in the library for an indefinite period of time. In that sense, it boils down to which situation would win out: Yuzu gets herself dirtier quicker, but is also likelier to clean up. Ui gets dirtier slower through natural causes, but will take longer to clean up.
Ui reminds me of the concept of a "black sheep" in how she presents herself, especially compared to the rest of Trinity. I didn't have a good place to put this.
Ui's hair may smell like the library, but just as the archivist maintains her books with care, so shall I maintain the archivist with care! The pages of her hair, having been left in the dust like a forgotten book because the author of the shower with the shampoo ink and hairbrush quill, has been left as an afterthought. Ui's hair would need the same level of thoughtfulness as choosing the right word for a story, piece by piece, coming together. Time would pass, the clock only being a vague suggestion until at last, the work is complete and a glance at it reveals the truth of working on an essay for at least an hour! I would personally make her hair smell like either hot chocolate or coffee. Something she'd enjoy, even if the sudden change in her balance would be most uncomfortable for her.
