Payday 2 resuming development Anonymous 10/22/2025 (Wed) 00:10:09 Id: 1bd616 No. 1870325
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/218620/view/553504715299620866 Sidetrack will be handling it from now. <Who? You might formally know them as M.U.G; a group of Payday modders turned professional developers, they did work on RAID: World War II. Starbreeze is doing a livestream on Thursday where they explain more. Their first updates will be focused on "quality-of-life improvements and general game fixes". Hopefully they revert their strange move to Epic Online Services back to Steamworks.
I think everybody predicted this would happen, Payday 3 was a colossal flop while Payday 2 still pulls good numbers. Really, they should graphically update Payday 2 like WoW did and do another big marketing push. Baffling they had the much-desired "forever game" GaaS and decided to try move on from it. Studios have died and publishers brought to their knees chasing what Overkill stumbled into.

>>1870325 What a shitshow.
>>1870325 >Payday 3 was such a disaster that they went back to updating Payday 2
>>1870325 That's hilarious considering how bad Payday 3 was.
>fuck up a sequel so bad you go back to working on a game that came out 12 YEARS AGO Wew. This can't be real, right?
>>1870390 Don't you love to watch the world burn sometimes?
>>1870325 >Payday 3 was so ass that everyone including a dev team went back to 2

Imagine if one of their new "QoL updates" involves breaking the DLC unlocker, now that it has become necessary to get all the content since the Scarface DLC is now unavailable.
>>1871044 Everyday I regret buying it, live service is a cancer At release the game was top tier and now it's a bloated carcass.
>>1871044 They way they structured things means it's technically impossible to do so, there's a reason the "cheater" system is completely client-side and so busted a malicious player can trick the host into marking as cheater (and kicking) any player in the lobby.
>>1870452 Technically it's not them doing it, Overkill is still working on Payday 3, this is a different studio Overkill has worked with in the past. If you're not up to date on your Payday history, a different company handling Payday 2 is probably a good thing. >>1870503 DESPERATE
>>1870325 Payday 3 went that badly, huh? >they did work on RAID: World War II That doesn't sound good either!
>>1870335 >Really, they should graphically update Payday 2 like WoW did WoW's graphical "update" completely destroyed the aesthetic of the game and turned it into generic fortnite-pixar models with smeary low resolution texture work while making every world entity look like play-doh. The texture work from 13 years ago looks higher quality than the shit they're releasing today.
>>1870325 >You might formally know them as M.U.G; a group of Payday modders turned professional developers, they did work on RAID: World War II. But the game is over a decade old, will these guys still remember how to use the tools to make a fun experience?
I wonder if they will finally add in those seven day heists they promised before the game came out.
>>1872561 >But the game is over a decade old, will these guys still remember how to use the tools to make a fun experience? From what I understood, Raid WWII had a resurrection not that long ago. The modders pushed several updates to the game. If anything, they might just be more qualified to work on Payday 2 that current Overkill.
>>1872754 I think they abandoned those because they were too long and not fun in playtesting, and bridged the cap with Crime Sprees. A 7-day heist would be a entire L4D style campaign, I'm sure a dev could pull that off but not Overkill. The whole Hoxton saga could have been a 7-day heist honestly.
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/218620/view/528734197434548839 First of these updates was put out on Thursday. I'll copy and paste all changes. Gameplay Reduced the interaction timers on upgrading drills/saws/thermal lance from 10 seconds to 3 seconds Fixed carried lootbags being consumed when the player fails an interaction Fixed floating hands being visible while looking through cameras Fixed enemy flashbang detonation timers being too long on higher difficulties Fixed the Ordnance Bag equipment being refreshable by leaving and rejoining a game Fixed Captain Winters staying immortal forever if his squad are killed before he arrives Added explosion and graze priority to medics so medics will no longer revive other enemies when dying from an explosion Network Fixed a few instances where players were not able to join games Fixed clients being able to masquerade as the host, causing them to to become unkickable Fixed multiple crashes relating to shotgun push mechanics Fixed crash when trying to spawn an invalid projectile Fixed a crash with the Creeps mutator set to maximum damage with the nuclear option enabled Heists Fixed the Dentist's Loot (Golden Grin Casino) and the BCI Headset (Biker Heist) having incorrect secure values Fixed the Blood Sample (No Mercy) and Oil Sample (Crude Awakening) mission equipments using incorrect icons UI Fixed an exploit that allowed for infinitely long usernames to be displayed Fixed a crash in the CRIME.NET menu related to invalid difficulty levels Fixed CRIME.NET lobby info showing random numbers when the host has no mods Adjusted the news feed in the main menu to not overlap with the game version number
[Expand Post] Fixed player hud flashing at random intervals due to health regeneration effects Fixed custom Point of No Return timers not using their set icons Weapons Fixed freezing when a client is using akimbo weapons Fixed bullet decals being created too slowly for high rate of fire weapons, causing them to lag behind Fixed missing reticle selection for the Tuunbaq Scope weapon mod Fixed an oversight that could prevent shooting right after reloading on slow fire rate weapons (Aran G2 Sniper Rifle fans rejoice!) Fixed some common/uncommon weapon skins unequiping applied attachments Fixed some common/uncommon skins resetting weapon attachments to default Fixed several incorrectly applied default weapon parts on some weapon skins
Assuming they ever get around to making heists, are they just going to reuse Viklund's music? Because I've heard Gustavo's shit on PD3 and I wasn't impressed. Den of Wolves please save us, don't fuck up like GTFO did.
