Today I remember the past so that the future can be something to believe in. On this day, I want to talk about Azusa and her hair. Azusa’s hair is a pale white like the moonlight’s reflection on a body of water. The shades it takes are subtle purples and pinks, yet have a rich depth and untold tale behind them. Clean is her hair, but simple it is not. It flows in the wind despite the tangles within, giving Azusa an air of determination. One such loose end blends hidden as an ahoge, only noticeable on her chibi. Her bangs are long and cross each other right above her nose, showing that a visit to a hair stylist is not on her priorities. And yet it makes her hair all the better for it in spite of what common belief dictates. Her hair accessory, much like the flowers on her wings, is a set of flowers. Chief among them is a large purple flower that looks to be resembling a forget-me-not. But there are smaller flowers, too. Above it are two flowers of a similar type, the left being a slightly darker purple, the right lighter. Both are less saturated than the big one, and both appear to be on her wings as well. Below it all are green leaves on the forget-me-not and a green sprout, before two black ribbons signal the end of this accessory.
There’s not much depicting Azusa’s life in Arius. However, in the past there were no flowers on her. Now, there’s a field of them, all in a familiar shade of purple…
Azusa’s swimsuit is a difficult one, but it can be done. To start, her hair is still the same length and is still that moonlight white. However, the first difference is in how it’s significantly messier than before. It tells a story of someone who did some swimming, built a sand castle, smashed a watermelon and had a day where, even if it was one day, she could relax and enjoy herself. A day where she might be out of her element, but she’s able to trust everyone around her and not have to worry about tomorrow or yesterday, instead enjoying today. The second part of her hair that sticks out is how it’s now tied in a half-up twintail, with most of it staying where it normally is. Then there’s the hair accessories. On her right, there’s likely one, but the chibi shows it as two, so I will refer to it as two: The pink ribbon with white polka-dots, and the pink hair tie (that might just be the ribbon, but there’s no polka-dots on it). On her left, beginning with her bangs, at the top is a hairclip resembling an orange wedge that’s angled to point the rind to the right. Below that, a thin pink hairclip in the same fashion as the ribbon on her right, with a purple bow below that. At the bottom is a watermelon with its rind pointing to the left, and all of this is close together, not going below her eyebrows. Just past this quartet is a similar accessory to what she normally wears, but summer themed. The flower is now a violet hibiscus, the accessory flowers replaces with two leaves up top. The prior leaves are now a white and blue striped ribbon, and below that, where the ribbon normally was, is still a ribbon, but this one is yellow instead of black. It has leaves, orange slices on it and, almost like it’s part of a hidden object hunt, lemons on the sides just barely peeking.
Azusa is unique in that she gets two swimsuits with different hairstyles. Her school swimsuit has the sprite with the same hair as normal, but it’s shown to be in a ponytail behind her, tied up to bring it up a few inches to avoid it getting too wet.
Her outfit as a whole has been, and likely will be, analyzed better than I could. But I would like to take special mention of her wings. They’re simple white wings, but are typically decorated in such a way to add so much more than just a blank canvas. They tell a story that can’t be put into words, but they show that she’s grown. I can’t help but feel proud of her.
Azusa’s hair is cleaned very well, seeing how it almost has a faint glow to it with how white it is. In stark opposition is how it’s quite messy, almost as though she either doesn’t know or doesn’t care too much to brush it. How it smells is the biggest surprise of it all, though. It smells just fine, if a bit muted. This I know for a fact is Hifumi’s doing in regards to their shared enthusiasm towards Momofriends, eventually having them one day shopping for supplies when Hifumi recommended a specific shampoo that had Peroro on it. Azusa, naturally, picked the Skullman version.
Azusa has one purple gift that she reacts to, but it’s not a loved gift. I bring this up because it is the hairbrush. She does eventually love it in her swimsuit alt, but her normal outfit, only a favorite. Looking at our past, apes would help get lice off each other as a form of social bonding and care. Humans are no different in how they are social creatures, even if they may seem isolated. That, and Azusa at least knows what a comb is, but perhaps doesn’t use it too well. A day where she’s on duty at Schale and pulling out the comb, asking her to sit down and relax as she’s wary, but trusts me, so she accepts. It’s therapeutic in a similar way that a massage can be, where gentle coaxing is done at difficult areas to slowly ease things out with deep, methodical movements at perceived straight spots to make sure there’s nothing hiding deep within. Like someone who covers themselves, a slow and delicate procedure eventually goes through even this thick worry. She remains alert, but relaxes bit by bit, before eventually melting entirely into the feeling, her hair feeling off, but not in a bad way. She’s simply used to it being messy, so this needs some time for her to get used to. Finally, though, her hair is brushed smooth and fair. The next test she took wasn’t very good, but notably better than before.
