Q: Is there a character that Kim Young Ha himself suggested, "I'd like to have a character like this?"
A: I said that it would be nice to have an AI character, and that's how Alona was born.
Q: What were some of the challenges you faced in providing services in Japan?
A: Preparing for the live broadcast
I never thought there would be so much to do, especially with the anniversary broadcast.
When we first started the service, other social games in the Japanese market were also broadcasting live, so we thought we'd give it a try ourselves, but we were told through the publisher that we had to prepare this and that, which was quite a challenge.
Nowadays it's become a routine and there is know-how, but back then there was no culture of live broadcasting outside of Japan, so once information was released it couldn't be revised later and the deadlines on-site didn't change, so it was incredibly stressful.
Q: How did you feel when you launched the service in Japan?
A: Yongha) It was a strange feeling.
The voice actors from the games we made appeared on live broadcasts and talked about our games.
During the live broadcast, comments flow in real time, and the teachers get excited.
After the live broadcast, there were a lot of advertisements in Akihabara... When I saw that, I felt happy and motivated to work harder, thinking, "Ah, I've finally become a part of the otaku culture that I've experienced up until now."
Q: Did you have a strategy for providing the service in Japan?
A: Actually, compared to Korea, Japan places a lot of importance on the annual schedule (like Hafuba and Anibaba), so it was actually a deliberate strategy to have the teachers read the "flow" by saying things like "There's nothing going on now, but the Anibaba is coming up later."
Also, I placed more emphasis on story and character rather than the competition and battles that were popular in Korea, and I'm glad that this was well received in Japan.
Q: Finally, how about doing a project where Yongha goes to Comiket himself?
A: No, I just want to be quiet.
Q: But you went to Comiket before, right?
A: No, it's not that... it's for personal desire... it's different from going for someone related to me or for someone else...
