I also know that there were even more normies/casual posters who don't know much about 4chan or other sites, I know these people exist because I searched for "4chan" on Nitter in the days following the 4chan hack and there were a bunch of clueless people just waiting for the site to come back with no context, apparently not even caring at all for the reason why the site wasn't working (I don't think I want these people to come here). And I'm sure the bots were more than both of those two categories combined. Again, I believe 4chan had lots of automated bots and even manual astroturfing, I just don't see any proof from the leaks.

As for the reason why most people on 4chan don't know 8chan exists: "8chan" is filtered and you probably get banned for talking about it.

I like it here due to the modern conveniences of multi-image posting, large filesize limits, actual sound in webms and shit, more filetype support + in-built clipboard image pasting and the fact that every board is run by an individual BO instead of managed by a team of schmucks ordering even bigger schmucks to run around cleaning up after third-world shitposters going schizo and bots posting either the absolute most garbage takes known to man or actual rule-breaking shit. Also the fact that the rules are more accommodating to more NSFW content so you don't have to feel like you're walking on eggshells the moment you post any suggestion of booba. But 4chan is also where a LOT of people post and it going down meant a lot of communities and threads got severed and split off into the various OTHER altchans that exist alongside 8moe, with anons often not being able to find their usual hangouts. Once it's back up, all those threads will likely return as well, even with all the shit that went on with the leaks and whatnot. And trying to find these threads in the wilds outside of 4chan is like trying to find a TV remote in between the couch cushions. Also while I get people complaining that 8chan can be kinda slow, generally speaking all you gotta do is poke the thread every so often so people notice it's there.

Going back, unfortunately. 8chan's boards managed what, 10% of the traffic? Even though a lot of 4chan was spam and shit and the average post/thread quality here is much higher, it's just too fucking slow and it's going to get even slower when 4chan comes back. If 4chan had stayed down for a more significant amount of time, like 6 months, then I could see a different scenario. As it is I'm betting most refugees haven't even changed their bookmarks.

I did go back but I'll still check here once in awhile. Even if the post quality might be higher the slowness of the site is unbearable. Something like /tg/ is near unusable with how little posters there are. Yeah the thread id's are nice but they don't do much if the board is dead

I don't see the point in returning to the site. I check the archives for old times sake, for threads I have saved but not once do I ever think of becoming a reoccurring poster again.

Low traffic, but I'm doing my part and finding places I can post things I used to on halfchan. /vyt/ is nice and beats old /vt/, but there isn't really a board that substitutes /d/ and /trash/. I think there's enough posters that like those things here, but they're very fragmented across different boards.
