DS RPGs Anonymous 04/21/2025 (Mon) 21:37:50 No. 260
What are your favorite RPGs to play on the DS? If you're playing any now or finished one recently, feel free to share what you think about that too. The last big one I finished was Dragon Quest IV. My main party for the final chapter was Hero/Alena/Maanya/Minea. (Original, I know.) I played the Japanese version so I had all the party chat and I was really impressed by how much of it there was and how many incredibly minor and specific situations the characters would react to. I found one scene where you had to have both Maanya and Minea in your party and talk to a specific character while being polymorphed. Overall I thought it was pretty good. It didn't blow my mind; there were parts I liked and parts I thought were frustrating. I never ran from any battles as a self-imposed challenge, which as it turns out is the requirement for getting the best title, so that was pretty cool. It's the kind of RPG where I'm really happy I played it all the way to the end, but I wasn't interested in doing the postgame and I don't know if I'll ever replay it. If you're looking for a good RPG, know Japanese, and can find a copy for a decent price, I say go for it, but it's probably not a must-play.
>>260 I always liked Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume, don't think I ever managed to finish it as a kid though
I didn't really play much for rpgs on ds back in the day but I do remember enjoying digimon world dawn. It was grindy but all digimon games are pretty grindy, and you have to have a friend if you want to get the fancy digi-eggs. An english patch game out for the sequel so I'll have to check that out some day.
>>260 Homebrewed my 3ds not too long ago, spent last night listing out even more games put onto it. Considering adding ff3 to the list now because of this thread, never played the game to completion despite having two chances on ds and ios. Currently playing through SRW OG Saga the combat system is really engaging and I enjoy the ecchi characters and comedic tone of the game. Honestly it's peak, can easily see myself coming back to this and it's sequel for NG+.
>DS / PSP allowed here You fuckers.
>>281 But Crysis is not so it balances out.
>>281 Make a new board yourself with whatever rules you like. It'll be competitive with this one, which has barely gotten started.
>>275 I've been told FF3 is a bit better on PSP because on DS it locks a bunch of stuff behind a multiplayer system. (Yes, multiplayer in Final Fantasy.) I'm planning on playing it on there. Endless Frontier is fucking awesome, I'm actually in the middle of a playthrough right now. My favorite girl so far is Aschen. I love all robot girls with a manic unconditionality so she was a very easy sell, but she's also so hot and fun and her personality is hilarious... and her OTHER personality is ALSO hilarious!
I don't think I actually finished many RPGs on the DS. Can only think of DQ IV, Fire Emblem and Golden Sun.
There's a patch to restore the party chat to the English DS version now. It was in the mobile versions. I liked DQ5 and 6 as well. I picked the new wife for my first play of the DQ5 DS version because I had played the original version and seen the other 2 choices in it.
>>369 Does is use the accents?
>>377 Yes, it was translated in the same style as the game itself by the same people.
>>369 I understand why DQ5DS didn't add a bigamy route. You'd have to change so much about the story, gameplay, etc. etc. etc. But just do it anyway. You can be based. It's okay. Make it New Game+ exclusive if you're worried that nobody will pick the original routes anymore. Hell, make it unlock after you play EVERY other route. I'd 100% be willing to play through the game three, four, five times for this.
