I beat silent hill for the first time last night. While I did enjoy a decent amount, I got the worst ending which left a bad taste in my mouth. I looked up what I did wrong and apparently there's a sidequest you can just easily miss. Same with saving cybil. I had the plastic bottle but I didn't find the spot to fill it. Oh well, that's how it is with these types of games I guess. I plan on playing silent hill 2 at some point but maybe I'll look up before hand what things I need to do to the good ending if I play it since I don't have time to replay games these days. I really liked the town though. At first I was pretty intrigued at the idea of a horror game where you have a whole town to run around in but I quickly saw that it's actually quite linear. Still, I liked its design and I imagine a lot of kids tried every single door to see if you could enter them.

>>414 Silent Hill 2 doesn't have a "bad ending" or a "good ending" so much as your actions determine which girl the protagonist chooses at the end, or if you get a joke/secret ending. The joke endings and the secret ending are New Game+ only so you won't get them during a first playthrough. The endings (apart from the joke endings) are all very sad. Fans sometimes have arguments about which is the "good" ending and which is the "bad" one, and the one which on the face seems like the saddest is a lot of fans' favorite. The actions that determine which ending you get are unintuitive, but all very simple. You can't miss something and get locked out of any of the normal endings. It's possible to set yourself up for one ending somewhat early on if you earn tons of points towards that ending and none towards the others, but otherwise all of the normal endings are in play up until the final boss. You can look up the specific things the game tracks, but it's much more interesting to play through the game blind and see what you get.
>>416 Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll fire up silent hill 2 sooner rather than later then. Also, does the flauros ever show up again in the series? Do the ever say what exactly it is?
>>414 The same thing happened to me when I first played the game, that stupid sidequest is so easy to miss, but the bad ending is so bleak that it made me want to replay it immediately afterwards. Thankfully it's a fun game and easy to replay so I went and beat it two more times. The exploration aspect of the first game makes it much better than the second one to me, also the puzzles and combat are better.
>>414 SH1 is a short and breezy game. I had no trouble replaying it for the best ending. The only thing that really bothered me was the legs puzzle I got stuck on and the way you have to use the bottle on Cybil which happens nowhere else in the game. It kind of stumped me a little and forced me to resort to a walkthrough.
>>421 The legs puzzle?
>>424 The room where you have to input a code and the hint are pictures of animals with numbers below them that correspond to the number of legs they have. It stumped me because I was trying to think about Zodiac signs and symbolism.
>>425 Ah I had to look that one up as well but the guide I used just said >if you're familiar with the zodiac then you shouldn't have trouble with this one and didn't even explain it; it just gave you the numbers. Now I'm wondering if the guide writer didn't even get it.
