Night-only games Anonymous 04/26/2025 (Sat) 15:25:43 No. 415
I started playing Koudelka recently. I'm only on the first disc but I feel like I've already fallen in love with it. I think a big part of the reason I'm enjoying it so much is that I decided to only play it at night. I turn off all the lights in my room and just lose myself in the world of the game. It surprised me how scary the game became when I did this despite it being a turn-based RPG. I keep startling myself when I think I see something suddenly moving on the screen, and whenever I hear a spooky noise I can't tell if it's coming from the game or the forest outside my window. What games do you like to play at night? And if you've played it, what are your thoughts on Koudelka?
>>415 It is just atmospheric or is it actually scary?
>>415 Thief 1 and 2, easy. I'm the exact same way with them, and I've been kicking myself for not finishing them up during the Winter, now that Spring is here
>>415 Why does the cover look like a cheap eroge

>>435 Because that isn't the cover. It's just some fanart from Pixiv I like. The real cover looks like this. >>427 >It is just atmospheric or is it actually scary? Out of those two, I'd say "just atmospheric", at least so far. If I could compare it to a horror movie, I'd go with The Mummy (1932). I'm never, like, scared-scared, but the atmosphere is so thick you can cut it with a knife.

I am now on Disc 2. Here are my thoughts on the characters so far: >Koudelka Thighsex with Koudelka >Edward I really enjoy how he's the sane normal person of the group despite the fact that he's an violent thug and probably a serial killer. I'd like to have a beer with him... in a bright, well lit restaurant with many witnesses. As the dedicated physical character he's really easy to use, but relies on the constantly breaking equipment. >James It doesn't feel like they were trying to write a devout Christian, it feels like they were trying to him as a really stupid asshole who happens to be a devout Christian. I got a hearty chuckle when I found out he was a bishop, I thought he was just some guy. He's kinda inbetween magic and might which makes him the most awkward to use by far. I haven't really been able to figure out what to do with him so I've just got him bouncing between attacking, healing, and the kinda lame buff spells. >Koudelka (for real this time) She's so fucking evil and it's great. She's easily the most compassionate out of the trio despite the fact that anytime she has to help another person or do anything vaguely nice she acts like a teenage girl who's having her phone taken away. She's my strongest character by a country mile. She's the obvious mage but she isn't even bad at physical attacks; there are many weapons that suit her. Once I got enough magic rings to fill her slots she just started destroying monsters; at this point I'm surprised when she doesn't one-shot them. Right now the combat is feeling pretty easy and I'm starting to feel comfortable, but it's beginning to lean more into some puzzle elements so its still very engaging. It's really cool that it's a fully voiced PSX RPG, I don't know if there even are any other ones.
>>437 Give it some time, James has a pretty good arc over the game
>>415 I wanted to see if the wii could emulate it. It can but some spell effects like healing seem to drop emulated fps down to 40.
