/CRT/ general Anonymous 05/07/2021 (Fri) 21:51:08 No. 54
/CRT/ general This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
Are CRTs hard to come by these days?
I have a 21'' Trinitron, it's not the best since it only has Composite but getting something better is surprisingly getting more expensive due to scalpers re-selling this old shit as "Gaming TVs". Gotta look for the clueless grandma posts selling them just as tvs
>>59 No.
>>54 Some places there's an absolute drought and some places have a few. The problem is some people buy them up from random people for normal prices and then sell them on ebay as Retro Gaming TVs for 100+ dollars. I got mine for 20 bucks from a regular person on facebook marketplace like how it should ideally be done.
>>62 Composite is all you need my friend. Though s-video can be nice sometimes.
>>54 I just bought a PVMeme. I had a 14” that was red-tinted (green gun got weak) and I never used it after getting a Retrotink 4K… fuck though, this 20” beauty popped up on auction and I snagged it for $300. Works perfectly. Guess I need to get a second mister (RetroPi this time) after all. Sold my 14” PVM for over $200 btw so this was a pretty good upgrade.
>>54 I just bought a PVMeme. I had a 14” that I hadn’t used since getting the Retrotink 4K, but a 20” popped up on auction for just $300, hard to pass on that. Already sold my 20” to some guy for $250. Now I need to get a second MiSTer system because damn this looks good.
Sorry for my bullshit triple post, the posting errored but apparently still posted.

crtfags be like
>>368 Thats half the point isn't it? That it looks different from an lcd and that sets can look different from each other?
>>378 >Thats half the point isn't it? no Me when I was a kid >didn't know what a mask was >didn't know what TVL was >didn't use cables that didn't come with the system itself >my mom was constantly yelling at us so we didn't play too close to the TV crtfags now: <BRO LOOK AT THE CRUNCHY PHOSPHORS OF THIS SLOT MASK AT 300TVL OVER S-VIDEO IT ALL MAKES THE ACT OF BURNING MY RETINAS SO PLEASURABLE
>>381 You had no choice then. The only real reason to choose a crt now is because of how it looks.

Got this bad boy up and running the other day. It's not as bright as I would like but considering its over 20 years old I can't complain. Also when its in 640p mode it can go up to 100 fps which is pretty cool. I'm surprised that's something they let you do since pretty well no game ran at that framerate back then or if it did it would be either too fast or bug out. Would make general use better though.
>>383 Light guns work WAY better out of the box on CRTs than they do on Plasmas and even LCDs.
>>458 I thought they didn't work at all on lcds.
>>462 Light guns can work with LCDs, but the results are spotty at best, unless you have an adapter or the Shingen.
