Answer 6 questions (see below). Specifically, answer questions 9, 10, and 11, and three other questions of your choosing. 4. Email a8chvolunteer@gmail.com with your 8chan.moe username and your answers to the 6 questions. You must be able to receive emails at the address you're sending from. It is recommended to use a throwaway email (recent events involving another website come to mind). Being a Board Volunteer is not about "scoring a victory" or "winning a battle". It's a consistent routine - it does not have a "complete" status. Question list: 1. Based on the 8chan moderation guidelines, explain the difference between a "Local Report" and a "Global Report." Provide an example of a situation on the /a/ board where you would use a Global Report instead of a Local Report. 2. A user repeatedly posts low-effort, off-topic posts in /a/ board (e.g., single-word posts like "cuck" with no context). Describe step-by-step how you would handle this situation, including which 8chan moderation tools you would use and why. 3. The /a/ board on 8chan is dedicated to anime discussions. What are three common issues that arise on /a/ due to its community culture, and how would you address one of them as a board volunteer? 4. As a board volunteer, you must enforce rules objectively. Describe a situation where you might be tempted to act subjectively (e.g., due to personal dislike of a user or content) and how you would ensure you remain objective. 5. The 8chan moderation guidelines recommend using a “tab-reloading addon” for monitoring the Latest Postings page. What is the purpose of this tool, and how would you set it up to monitor the /a/ board effectively? 6. A user submits a Local Report claiming a post on /a/ is “low-quality” because it criticizes their favorite anime. How would you evaluate and respond to this report, considering 8chan’s moderation tools and /a/’s rules? 7. Two users on /a/ are arguing heatedly over an anime’s plot quality, and the thread is derailing with insults. Describe how you would intervene as a board volunteer and what 8chan moderation tools you’d use to calm things down. 8. A thread on /a/ about a popular anime series frequently devolves into off-topic discussions, memes, and personal attacks, clogging the board. Describe how you would manage this thread to maintain board quality while not being a killjoy for all the users, including which 8chan moderation tools you would use and how you’d balance community engagement with rule enforcement. 9. Give an example usage for each type of Ban. 10. Give an example usage for each type of Deletion Action. 11. What threads are you most active in?
