*Warning, turn back now if you don't have autism*
I've been looking a ton at how Uekawa draws him now compared to how he used to draw Sonic and I honestly am not a huge fan of some of the proportions he draws Sonic now. Well, a better way to put it is, I like some parts of how he draws Sonic now more than how he used to, but there are some parts I heavily dislike compared how he used to draw Sonic. Best I can explain is with example here
The darts pictures is an egregiously bad example, Don't get me wrong, it's by no means bad at ALL, Uekawa is an incredible artist, It's just for the sake of comparison. I like how he draws sonic's body still. he looks more
built now for lack of a better word. His limbs are thicker, he's less curvy, he looks more like he has bones. I like having bone structure even for Mobians, I don't like getting super noodly, though sometimes he really looks like a jock to me, like pic 1. The part that bothers me so much is his head. This specific example also makes his head slightly too small, but that;s not usually an issue, it's sized fine here
>>43645 and pic 3. It's just the shape of his muzzle and the width of his head overall. It's much less round and much wider. His eyes don't curve into his muzzle as much and his muzzle has more of a > shape at the edge. I kind of like the > shape, but I don't like how wide the muzzle is and how much bigger the nose has also gotten at times. His face just looks kind of squished and it tickles my autism.
2nd is much different. He's much rounder and his body looks more lean, smaller chest. Bigger, rounder muzzle, rounder eyes, it just didn't have a lot of the stylized blockiness he has now. I like his face overall a lot more here, and the body feels leaner and more flexible, which might just be because of the old posing, but he really doesn't get drawn as noodly as he used to I feel like. Granted, sometimes Sonic would be drawn too noodly for my tastes, but Uekawa quickly struck a fine balance, and still kind of does, again he's amazing. It's not really better or worse, it's really just a matter of preference.
3rd again, squished face, very built body. It still looks so fucking good, but comparing it to all the classic Uekawa art, there's a really clear difference, and I just have a preference towards the older style overall even if there are parts I like more about how Sonic is drawn now in this style. Granted I drew kind of a freaky amalgamation between the two because of my preferences, but I'm an amateur lol, I'll get it right someday.
