Touhou Doujin Scans 名無し 04/27/2025 (Sun) 01:23:03 Id: e9ea15 No. 2690
I posted this over on /v/ but I figured I'd post it here too. I would like to support altchans so that people don't return to 4chan, so I'm going to post previously-unknown-and-unscaned 2hu doujins here. Specifically, the raw scans which are a bit messy and, well, raw. If (you) can clean them up, I'll post more raws. To the person who cleans them up, if you have a request (not a specific doujjin, just general "x character" or "sfw/nsfw", I'll see what I can find. SFW: Yuuka Doujin https://mega.nz/file/s9A1TT5C#6Bee_qMZwWoBFfKEWQdwmCGYFXvaVBCChhUYZUy_CXI NSFW: Letty Doujin https://mega.nz/file/EhxyTJzK#uWm5IeqXfB9tZ7Rt3gy-WjF-9XWa5Ssf3ON0AEkTN60 Yukari Doujin https://mega.nz/file/A1hilbBQ#iFkxLzZ6C2J3lZn-Iq8tGaDWt0ccfpJqOOVvO4fHCQ8 Yuuka & Wriggle Doujin https://mega.nz/file/5ooEELrJ#wm_kz8Enw66xZfRwE0di64UVswE0c9gkQMdGQ-MXH9U Yuuka Doujin https://mega.nz/file/c8ZHVLJK#Qb2GufuptjaqwNIA4f8dOf1fU6xYiKzAINQif2ZZZ5A

Touhou galleries however will eventually get a decent rating since people care enough to look for it. What I want to say with that is that you don't need to care too much about the rating, since it is a flawed system anyway. My scanner just died and I plan to write an up-to-date guide on scanning and editing after my new model arrives next week. This should improve the quality a little and reduce the time needed to scan and edit in the future. >if the quality is too off or there's too much dust or something For most problems it's easier to fix in photoshop than it is to rescan a page. The only real problem is rotating the pages because that gives you artifacts on straight lines. My guide will fix this. And don't worry about the scans already done. We're not striving for perfection anyway; we are trying to accurately represent the information of the physical item.

They just die down on traffic. The other ones are about the same. The new batch doesn't show any abnormalities either, aside from the Cirno gallery being strangely popular for a Non-H work. The Yuuka H doujin did pretty good in the torrent department. 33 seeds already. That is really good. And the Letty, Yuuka X Wriggle, and Yukari galleries can already be found mirrored on hitomi as well.

>>3170 NSFW Raiko - done https://files.catbox.moe/jp5l4i.zip Title: 雷鼓さんと泥酔っくす!2 My scanner arrived today. It's an Epson Perfection V39II. The scan speed is incredible compared to my old Epson Perfection V300 Photo. A 600dpi scan used to take almost 2 minutes but is now done in a few seconds. However, I still need to find something to get rid of the border cutting after aligning it (1 cm of top, 0.5 cm of right). I used exacto knife blades in my old scanner for this. This time I will look for something easier to set up. Something laser cut probably. Tomorrow I'll go to the hardware store. Then I can write the guide. >>3216 I don't mind either way. I will be where my help is needed.
>>3236 >600dpi in a few seconds That's incredible. I'm sticking to 300dpi for now because 600dpi would take a few minutes on my scanner and my sanity is important to me. Technology sure is amazing. >border cutting If you mean the deadzone at the edge of the scanner, I just use thin L-rulers to keep the pages away from the edge. These ones, specifically: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CTJPNYPY Just one is enough. Any thin L-ruler would work, but most seller don't care to emphasize the thinness of their rulers, probably because it's detrimental for most applications.
>>3240 >thin L-rulers That sounds like a good idea. I settled with small coins for now. A cheap, highly available alternative. I was busy finding the perfect configuration today. Tomorrow I will start writing the guide/best practice collection.

(17.59 KB 305x239 scanline.jpg)

The guide turned out to be a huge load of work. I'll delay the complete version and just briefly talk about the most important parts for scanning. Scan the cover and back before debinding - It will be curved and hard to scan if you scan it after melting the glue. Cutting the cover and back apart is also an option. Lay the paper completely flat and have the scanner lid lightly press on it - If there's no presure you might get some unsharpness through the curvature of the paper. See the pics. Align the paper with something really thin and evenly spaced - You won't need to rotate it afterwards and can crop it inside your scanner software. This should give you scans of equal dimensions since you only need to set the crop region once per book. The alignment tool needs to be thin enough so you can put a black paper behind the scan page and still put pressure on it with the lid. Always align with the outer edge of the paper - The inner edge is too uneven. This also means you have to flip every second scan in your scan preview. Don't put too much pressure on the scanner bed - If the sensor gets dirty from scraping against the underside of the scanner bed, you will see scanlines. Since you can't clean the sensor without damaging it, this means the scanner is broken. Previewing the scan is actually necessary for maximum quality - The detailed explanation would be too long. Don't use the dust filters of the scanner software - They never work correctly. Wipe the scanner bed every now and then - This will mean less work in the editing phase. Concerning the alignment tool, I found coins to be too thick as well, even though mine are just 1.2 mm. I went back to using exacto knife blades with a thickness of 0.5 mm. Rulers are excellent for alignment but most are too thick to still put enough pressure on the page.
>>3280 OP here, thank you! >Scan the cover and back before debinding How does this work with the detail spine? Not a big deal, an acceptable loss, or should it be scanned open? >Wipe the scanner bed every now and then - This will mean less work in the editing phase. Just with a standard microfiber cloth? >have the scanner lid lightly press on it >Don't put too much pressure on the scanner bed These seem a little contradictory, how much pressure should there be? >Previewing the scan is actually necessary for maximum quality What does this mean, like opening a preview of it in the scanner program?
(3.51 MB 704x1000 histogram.webm)

>>3281 >How does this work with the detail spine? It does not. I would consider this acceptable loss for the sake of saving time. I did not have to deal with many spread covers as of yet so I actually have no proper way of dealing with them. For now, for spreads only, you would need to scan the cover with focus on the spine once after debinding. But you should still scan the cover and back prior to debinding. Oh, and the paper for the cover is normally thick enough that you don't need to care about bleed-through. >Just with a standard microfiber cloth? I use a duster. A cloth should also do the job. Try looking at the scanner glass from an angle to see if you cleaned well enough. It doesn't need to be perfectly clean though. >how much pressure should there be? Generally: optimal recommended pressure = scanner lid + own weight + black paper Just don't put a heavy book on top of the page or press on the lid with your hand. If there's water damage on your book you might need to ignore this advice. But if you hear a scraping sound, know that you're doing something wrong. >What does this mean, like opening a preview of it in the scanner program? Yes. To make sure there are no misunderstandings: Normally every scanner gives you the option to run a preview scan before the actual scan. This is just a low res scan of the entire scan area. Any decent software should then let you use a marquee tool to select the area you actually want to scan. The values of the scanned image are sampled from inside this area, however the maximum and minimum values were already determined through the marquee in the preview (in Epson software at least). See the histogram video for what the value distribution should look like if you scan with a marquee. Note how there's no big gaps of the value distribution, meaning we get more detail in our scan. If your alignment setup works correctly, you only need to set the marquee once per book. Cut the tiniest bit inside the page, so you get the optimal range. If there is no problem, every scan should be the same size. Sometimes you need to readjust it. However this costs time, so I wouldn't recommend readjusting too often. The image attached is a raw straight from my scanner. Note that it doesn't need rotating or cropping and has a pretty good distribution of values. This saves a huge amount of time in editing and the distribution autism is just to max the quality for higher detailed dark areas.
(29.81 MB 4251x6034 img20250509_15371515_proc.png)

>>3281 >>3283 >Tiff not supported >image silently rejected Here it is in png. And these are all just tips and trick to save time and get the maximum quality. Nothing I say is a hard requirement. I just hope it helps you figure out a decent workflow since you seem to be just getting started with scanning. And for your information, it took me about 30 minutes to scan the images in the webm. ~1 minute per a page in good quality seems like a decent time.
>>3283 >The values of the scanned image are sampled from inside this area, however the maximum and minimum values were already determined through the marquee in the preview (in Epson software at least). See the histogram video for what the value distribution should look like if you scan with a marquee. Note how there's no big gaps of the value distribution, meaning we get more detail in our scan. I might be misunderstanding what you are trying to say, but you can also always apply color correction after scanning. Same with cropping, although being able to apply a marque in the scanner program might save time while scanning, perhaps? I never do previews, but I do all my cropping and color-correction as a separate step after the scanning. >No big gaps in the value distribution The point is not necessarily to avoid gaps, but to use the full range of values (from 0 to 255 or whatever). If you're scanning a two-tone BW print, your histogram is approximately going to just be two peaks, one for the blacks and one for the whites. But these peaks are never going to be pure white or pure black, due to imperfections in paper and ink. The "histogram stretch" corrects for this and makes the white appear as pure white and black as pure black. Note that we are not only correcting for the color-inaccuracies due to our scanner, but also due to the printing process used to make the doujin. The reason we are able to do this is because we imagine that the author intended for the pure whites to be white and for the darkest colors to be black, and that any deviation from this is due to imperfect printing and/or scanning. For scanning color prints and covers, things become much more complicated: we can't be certain exactly which shade of blue the author intended for Wakasagihime to have. There are two approaches one can take here: try to find a digital image of the cover on pixiv or somewhere else. You can use this as a ground truth to calibrate the colors of your scan. The second approach is to just make the colors of your scan as true to the colors in the print as possible. For this, you can use Color Calibration Targets. There is a guy in Germany who basically makes scanner calibration targets for everyone in the world: http://www.targets.coloraid.de/ You can use these targets to generate ICC profiles to correct for color inaccuracies of your scanning. This calibration will not only depend on your scanner, but also light conditions etc, so try to scan with standardized light conditions. This effect should be pretty small, though. Since most manga is black-and-white, it might not be worth your time to worry about these things: readers do not really expect accurate colors for scans of doujin covers. Finally, I'd also like to stress that all these things are in some sense optional. You'll go insane if you want your scans to be perfect, and almost no one can tell the difference between a good-enough scan and a perfect scan. It's just good to be aware of these things so you can make a conscious decision about the level of quality you think is worth aiming for. Let me know if you'd like instructions on how to do individual steps, like histogram stretching and cropping of large number of images. My workflow is all open-source (using imagemagick and GIMP with the batch-processing addon 'BIMP'), so there is no need for specialized commercial software. I should add that I've never actually done color-correction properly, so that part I only know in theory.
(2.94 MB 704x1000 crop vs marquee.webm)

>>3287 This videos should illustrate my point. See how our values have more of the range available which would result in slightly higher detail during the scan. This is not about the leveling during editing. It's about scanning from the correct range of values. But maybe we are talking past each other. Try comparing a whole scanbed scan and a marquee tool scan yourself. You will see how your scanning software automatically adjusts your range to give you the most information of your image. And worrying about color scans is a meme. You just go with something that looks good and be done with it. There are several lossy steps until you get the scanned image from a digital one and even if you "perfectly" scanned something, you wouldn't be able to display it properly due to display autism.
I guess this is a fitting thread to ask but does anybody by chance have this artbook? https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/128359186 I checked the artist's melonbooks and it's not there nor is it on the panda
