Games suffering from NSTFU syndrome (Never-Shutting-The-Fuck-Up) Anonymous 08/27/2025 (Wed) 14:00:06 Id: 0ba501 No. 1697108
This doesn't mean games that have a lot of dialogue or large dialogue trees, like New Vegas or Disco Elysium. We're talking games with the characters will not stop talking. Constant banter, verbose conversations, quippy dialogue, characters explaining and repeating what to do next; commenting on everything they see/think, puzzles being explained before you even grasp them, and so on. Suffering from NSTFU syndrome doesn't mean a game is necessarily even bad, but the writing is often be the worst part of them.
>>1702561 I think they're both watchable/playable, but yeah, I'm glad they're not real reboots. I see them as codas to the series. I can enjoy them for their references to the real series. But fuck Rift Apart. I'm not bothering with Sony's attempt to replace Ratchet with a girl (which the character designer said was a tranny, right? "She" has a tail, and female lombaxes don't have tails, so it's canon).
>>1702577 Technically the bitch who claimed the tranny angle did not design her or really anything, and just stated such on Twitter to make people mad. As far as we know the females have tails in the parallel universe she is from, or it could easily be Lombaxes all have different feline tail styles, and the one other female we have seen in the franchise is probably based on a Manx.
>>1702577 Sam Maggs said that and she can't be trusted on anything regarding R&C. She was fired over a year and half before the game's launch and none of her work made it to the final game, she's not even in the credits. She also got into public fights about having created and named Rivet with the actual creators of Rivet and other Insomniac employees, who started airing out dirty laundry about how hostile she was in the workplace. The tail think also doesn't matter because it's not clear if that's actually canon and Rivet isn't even from the same universe. It's annoying to see see that parroted. Having actually played Rift Apart, Rivet does not replace Ratchet. This is another thing I see parroted that isn't true. I don't like Rivet as a character, she's uninteresting and flat with zero personality beyond "being the spunky socially awkward deuteragonist", but that doesn't happen. If anything, Clank is the one replaced, by Kit, who is a considerably more interesting character than Rivet.
>>1703538 Those are some awfully organic looking orifices.
>>1697496 >Someone else played this game I'm fine with Zeus doing funny commentary on some of the monsters/puzzles you are dealing as he is responsible for some of them but this is modern Ubishit writing so it gets annoying real fast especially when everyone shits on Zeus fucking everything that moves but Aphrodite gets a pass and considered a positive for fucking around and manipulating people's hearts since it makes for good stories >Loli Athena is the only good thing about this game. Yes
>>1702626 >or it could easily be Lombaxes all have different feline tail styles No, it's confirmed on the radio in one of the later games (I think A Crack in Time) that female lombaxes don't have tails. The "it's an alt universe and maybe they have tails there" excuse is pretty flimsy when really they obviously just forgot, or, since it's Insomniac, they were doing the poz on purpose. >>1703538 You'll forgive me for not trusting modern Insomniac, the same people who made Peter Parker into a little soyboy bitch so they could replace him with Ultimate Spider-Monkey.
>>1703964 I never played it, I just watched someone play it and immediately realized how offputting it was. This should not have gotten past a vertical slice.
>>1704003 The radio only had a single reference point for females because there was only one female at the time, and even then they weren't sure about it.
>>1705313 People who bring up the radio bit should actually listen to it. It's played as a joke more than genuine canon, the section mostly a reference to how Angela Cross vanished after Ratchet 2.
>>1705413 It's a joke clearly made to reference the seeming contradiction in canon. Yes it's funny, but it's also to patch over what otherwise seemed like an odd inconsistency.
>>1707783 It's just extremely gay that faggots have latched onto it as gospel, and fed into the delusions of a serial game development rapist in the process, just so they can be mad at something.
>>1698211 Ehhh, i wouldn't say that. Alot of old JRPGs had this problem too, especially Final Fantasy. FF4 is particularly bad about it. >be sent on fetch quest to get crystals >every single time, the plot pulls something out of its ass to justify you losing it The worst is when Kain overpowers 4 other party members and singlehandedly steals a crystal from Cecil and his friends, after the ordeal in the secret cave. And he does this in a cutscene no less.
>>1697381 she literally does not. Be in water temple and every 5-10 minutes, the navi C button at the top starts flashing in the corner of the screen like an annpyinig cell phone notification. Rose-tinted glasses retard.
>>1708896 >she literally does not. Be in water temple and every 5-10 minutes, the navi C button at the top starts flashing in the corner of the screen like an annpyinig cell phone notification. >>1697381 >when i did not press the Navi button,
>>1710263 it keeps coming back up even after you press it just to say the same thing about what the main objective is. You either haven't played the game in years, you're retarded, or you're baiting.
>>1702065 >TL;DR: weeb says weebshit
Speaking of Ratchet and Clank, when did the series get such a boner for Nefarious? Give us different villains, please. Rift Apart was the biggest Nefarious fellatio fest, and the perfect time to gracefully retire him.

>>1711535 Why does the Mario series have such a boner for Bowser? Why does Donkey Kong always seem to have K. Rool lurking about? Why are you retarded?
>>1711634 I mean you can make the same argument for those, too. The far more interesting Mario games are the ones where Bowser's not the bad guy behind everything for the 50th time.

>>1711634 Nefarious isn't the first villain thought like bowser was for Mario.

>>1711753 fucking Chris
>>1711535 According to some former Insomniac staff, that's on Sony. They wanted a heel like Bowser and Gannon. <<1711634 That comparison doesn't work. Nefarious shows up one game, and a few games later he shows back up, becoming the series villain. It's odd and unnatural, the series went from villain of the week to having a big bad. It's worse because Nefarious is extremely one dimensional, he does not work across multiple entries.

>>1711535 Sony mandate. I think a bigger problem is how awful the writing became, the second R&C started taking itself seriously is the second it became a "skip cutscene" game. Rift Apart is so fucking cringey in its attempts at being cinematic and earnest. The scene in the bar with all the random side characters standing around ready to fight the Emperor as uplifting music plays could be mistaken for a maize farm with how corny it is. I don't even want it to go back to the 2000s edge, it probably wouldn't work regardless; I just want the series to stop being embarrassing to play.

This one was really bad. The original Subnautica is known for being an immersive experience with a silent protagonist that players can easily slip into the role of. Below Zero shatters that sense of immersion with a new protagonist and "sidekick" that can't help but spew inane lines at themselves or each other. Unsurprisingly, the story is also very poorly written.
>>1712720 Apparently this studio was a complete shitshow internally. One of the founders fucked off to make AI movies or something and the publisher had to fire him.
>>1712731 That's right now–for Subnautica 2. It wasn't the case during BZ. They were just… retarded. BZ started as just DLC for Subnut.

>>1712426 wew lad
>>1712153 I only played the PS2 entries and I hear some claim that the series was starting to lose its bite after Deadlocked.
>>1714052 The series picked up a new writer. Oddly, a bunch of the original devs are still there: Brian Allgeier, Gregory Baldwin, Tom Barlow, Chad Dezern, Kevin Grow, if you look through the credits of the first few games you'll see a lot of people in the credits for Rift Apart. I'd say the biggest felt loss was David Bergeaud, the composer, but the music gets immediately better in the first game he left. Quest For Booty was his last Ratchet game and its soundtrack was more completely uninteresting orchestral "cinematic" slop.
I just realized we actually have a R&C thread that's been disused. >>1233432 Feel free to revive it.
>>1698119 If only she looked like that ingame
