Minecraft General - The Ride Never Ends Anonymous 10/09/2025 (Thu) 22:59:32 Id: f677a5 No. 1832885
In celebration of the second movie getting announced, and also the previous thread (>>1059987) being anchored and almost dead. What are you building? What mods are you running? What's your preferred resource pack? Will Mojang ever actually add something of worth to this godforsaken brick builder? Will this nightmare ever end? Also, reposting the OP from last time since it's a lot of useful information: >Frequently Asked Stupid Questions Q: I stopped playing months ago, what's new in Minecraft? A: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Version_history Q: What launcher should I use? A: PolyMC is the current flavor of multiMC fork. Q: How do I install mods? A: Download the Fabric or Forge modloaders, install for the version you want, and launch the game to generate the necessary files. then go through Curse's awful shitty search system until you find a mod you want, download it, and put it in your new mods folder in the minecraft directory. Check the mod's curse page for more specific installation requirements and dependencies. >Official stuff: * Website - http://minecraft.net * Forums - http://minecraftforum.net * Mojang - http://mojang.com * Wiki - http://minecraft.gamepedia.com >Launchers: * Prism (Regularly updated general purpose launcher) - https://prismlauncher.org/ * PollyMC (Pirate friendly fork of Prism) - https://github.com/fn2006/PollyMC * PonyMC (Certified clown launcher) - https://www.reddit.com/r/PolyMCLauncher/ >Mod downloads and wikis: * Curseforge (the biggest mod/texturepack/resources repository) - https://minecraft.curseforge.com/ * Feed the Beast (another big repository) - http://feed-the-beast.com * FTB wiki (the biggest mod wiki) - https://ftbwiki.org/Feed_The_Beast_Wiki * The other ftb wiki (slightly less useful than the first) - https://ftb.gamepedia.com/ * Japan forum (has some hidden gems, hope you speak 日本語) - https://forum.civa.jp * MCModBrowser - https://mcmodbrowser.neocities.org >Modding Tools and Documentation: * Current Forge docs (1.15/1.16) - https://mcforge.readthedocs.io * Forge docs GitHub archive (1.12-1.16) - https://github.com/MinecraftForge/Documentation * Forge docs GitHub archive (1.7) - https://skmedix.github.io/ForgeJavaDocs/javadoc/forge/1.7.10-10.13.4.1614/ * Fabric mod loader (1.14+) - https://fabricmc.net/ * Example mods (1.8-1.15) - https://github.com/TheGreyGhost/MinecraftByExample * McJty tutorials (1.10/1.12/1.14) - https://wiki.mcjty.eu/modding/index.php?title=Main_Page * Open source mods list - https://github.com/agaricusb/ForgeMod/wiki/List-of-Open-Source-Forge-Mods * A bunch of docs about mod development for 1.7 - https://gtnh.miraheze.org/wiki/Development * A Guide for hosting your own server for (((free))) [(((free))) means paying with your personal info :^)] - https://blogs.oracle.com/developers/post/how-to-set-up-and-run-a-really-powerful-free-minecraft-server-in-the-cloud >Old mod links (you might find good stuff in here, but it's best to stick to curseforge for general purpose searches): * Mod list - http://bot.notenoughmods.com * Another mod list - http://modlist.mcf.li

>>1848778 They also made hell The Nether a fucking slog to travel through. Now half of it's full of forests (in hell) and useless rocks you can't even easily traverse through.
>>1848778 add water caves being everywhere to this, theyre a pain to route around
>>1848788 I really do hate the modern world gen, everything is just too busy, they made caves so fucking huge that they felt the need to fill them with garbage everywhere, compare it with mods that added decoration to caves years prior, stalactite and stalagmite were scattered randomly throughout caves, enough to break up the monotony of wandering through an otherwise featureless cave, same with roots dangling from cave ceilings, it was rare but just enough to give caves a landmark the lush caves are so full of decoration that it's annoying, and dripstone caves are stupid because it limits what should be a natural formation to a single area, so you'll never see a natural rock formation anywhere but the very specific cave biome and it's a texture that clashes against the rest of the world because they wanted to introduce an entirely new stone JUST to have stalactites and stalagmites same with the new stone types, totally unique textures that don't blend in with anything, I hate deepslate so much, they should have either updated regular stone to blend with deepslate or made deepslate closer to regular stone >>1849041 this too, some of the biomes are fine for the nether like the soul sand one with bone decoration, and the basalt one, but the basalt one again suffers from poor terrain gen that makes it almost impossible to navigate through, and no incentive to do so unless you just really like the texture of basalt, everything else is too busy, for a literal hell dimension there is way too much LIFE in it now, the nether should be desolate, not be like an ocean of life but fire edition
>>1848778 >all caves are now ginormous Good, I got bored of the same old spaghetti caves that was the only type of generation (with the occasional ravines) If it wasn't in vanilla, I'd mod it in myself. >gangrape you from every possible angle You're bad at the game. I have no problems with any enemy except phantoms and baby zombies. Use a shield, bring an axe, always carry logs on you. It's not hard to craft torches on the fly. >no floating islands like the good ol' days Yeah that's about the only complaint I have with the new gen, no wacky terrain features at all. I would like Terraria styled floating islands, but as is the realistic terrain is on average more interesting. >structure bullshit Yep. Poor design is having to either get lucky or spend a billion hours searching for shit, regardless of structure (except, again, Strongholds.) Luckily it seems like an Ancient City is guaranteed per skulk, so if you find a skulk biome, enough searching will see you run into a ancient city. See, that's another thing Terraria has over Minecraft, way easier to find structures. Partially because you can predict where they are. Minecraft's best bet was Ender Eyes and thats a thing just for strongholds. >>1849041 Disagree. Nu-Nether is light years better to travel through. Old nether was samey schlock with shitty old-Cobblestone tier textures, something I didn't like traveling through. The Aether mod did "nu dimension" better, its not even close, and pockets of void is way tougher to traverse through without the teleport orb dropping enemy spawning everywhere. The nether update also helped highlight how horrible the End is too, and you lot don't have the excuse of nostalgia for that shitshow.
>>1849498 I agree with the anon above you with the nether, mainly that the older one felt more in tone with its purpose. The new additions are interesting to see and explore, sure, but that's not what the nether was designed for - it's always been the goal to get there to find a fortress then fuck off forever. Adding more life and depth to the world of it is counterintuitive to its limitations. Why have trading posts and friendly mobs when you're not going to make a base in it since a bed will explode? Why have plants and trees and grass if water evaporates the second it gets placed? It used to be an empty feeling realm you went to rarely and felt unsure going deeper into, now it's a tonally mismatched series of biomes that doesn't even follow its own original logic. Not sure what you were getting at with the end but that's literally always sucked since it was added.
>>1849617 >get there to find a fortress then fuck off forever. Yes, such great design. Visit the dimension for one of two things: fortresses and maybe super highways if you're autistic. Hence the need for a nether update that adds more shit to do. And if you're really complaining about pointless shit, you're talking about a game that has poisonous potatos and rotten flesh. You don't need an excuse for more wood types. I've never liked the Nether, and I hated it before the update. It didn't have a "design". It was always horrid and dogshit and existed with no thought behind it, and nether fortresses were a band-aid. >totally mismatched series of biomes To be fair, the Nether was originally the halloween hell dimension, basalt deltas do make sense for that. What, you'd expect hell to be EASY to traverse through? It's hell. But no, the hell design was fucking boring and I don't care if its now something totally different. It was boring and fucking ugly when Notch first came out with the Nether. Nothing of value was lost. Absolutely nothing. Now it's got some shit to do (nether fortresses, bastions, netherrite.) with some variance in biomes and its lightyears better than what it was pre-1.16 >trading posts and friendly mobs Piglins aren't friendly at all. They're neutral only if you wear gold. The piglins in Bastions will assrape you if you touch any gold or open chests. The only friendly mob in the Nether is the Strider because heavens forbid Mojang adds a long requested feature without attaching it to a fucking mob. >the end Simple. The End is just The Nether but the lava hazard swapped out for void, and landmasses disconnected/spread out. It's virtually the same as the 1.12 era Nether, complete with its own Nether Fortresses (end cities)... and that's it. It has nearly all the problems as the old Nether, except the ground textures aren't as revolting. It's a fairly direct comparison, and basically every issue is also present in the old Nether. Including being utterly bored five seconds into being in that dimension because it all looks the fucking same.
Notch is clearly laughing all the way to the bank. (((Minecraft devs))) "probably would not add" the Creeper to the game today, admits Mojang CEO, because "it would be so controversial" https://www.gamesradar.com/games/minecraft/minecraft-devs-probably-would-not-add-the-creeper-to-the-game-today-admits-mojang-ceo-because-it-would-be-so-controversial/ >If I were to ask you about Minecraft's mascot, which would you think of first, Steve or a Creeper? I'm betting it's a Creeper, the exploding green monster who's been roaming people's blocky maps since 2011. Appearing in all sorts of merchandise, a long-time subject of memes, and recently jumping to the silver screen in A Minecraft Movie, the Creeper is an indelible part of the sandbox game. But as a creature that spawns in the dark, sneaks up behind players, and blows itself up, it’s not altogether conducive to the current design principles, to the point that the team probably wouldn’t add it now if it weren’t already available. >"If you were to follow the rules that we have today, we would probably not add the Creeper," Jens Bergensten, Mojang CEO, explained in a video on Minecraft’s development. "Because it would actually be so controversial to have a monster that would show up and destroy what you built." >He concedes, though, that the explosive creation is "iconic," and that's an understatement. Minecraft wouldn't be the same without the unpredictable risk factor they bring. Although annoying (and occasionally scary), Creepers keep you on your toes while constructing and gathering resources. I'd argue they're crucial to its overall popularity, both as a slightly cooler ‘face’ of the brand than Steve (no offense, pal), and as an engine for calamity. Minecraft has been a cottage industry on YouTube and other platforms for over a decade, and the sudden fright and despair at the disastrous arrival of Creepers have led to many hilarious viral moments, thus spreading the word about the joy that comes from harnessing these cubes for your own. All in all, they're not going anywhere. Frankly, I'm glad - just stay away from my next floating castle. "WAAAAA MOMMY THE GAME UNDID MY PROGRESS I DIDN'T DEFEND MYSELF IT'S BAD DESIGN CHANGE IT"
>>1849968 Is jeb retarded? Theres a mob griefing toggle in the game Now imagine if creepers exploded by themselves to get into your house or were able to lunge, that would be "an unpredictable risk factor"
(174.04 KB 493x596 enderass.png)

>>1849968 That Anon was right about Mojang acting like your forth grade teacher. Wanna know a fact? If the Mojang of today were to develop Minecraft with their current standards - not even now but in 2009 as well - it wouldn't have been popular in the first place. They never would have created the Nether or The End, they wouldn't have had livestock raising or animal hunting because they're seemingly the games division of PETA, they never would have introduced potions or weapon enchanting, they would have focused more on adding different kinds of rock than new items, they would have updated it too slowly with too little content for anybody to care about following the game; Minecraft would have been an abandoned borderline edutainment game that maybe goes down as a cult classic. It wouldn't have been the most successful game of all time. Not by a long shot.
>>1849968 Seeing as people got used to creepers, I think they overestimate how controversial they would be in this hypothetical.
>>1849652 it's not even a bad thing that the nether has more things to do, but for worlds of "infinite" size there's no reason why every square inch needs to be populated with something part of why exploring is fun is finally finding a rare structure or biome after scouring a desolate hellscape for too long, the reward is finding something unique when you think it's just going to be nothing but netherrack and lava forever but when you can't look in any one direction without seeing a disgusting teal forest or structure or band of wandering fuckpigs it's clear that mojang tries to appeal to short attention spans by ensuring there's no shortage of visual stimulus, like how rare fortresses were where it could take hours to find one with how difficult it was to navigate, no flight, no potions, and the constant threat of ghasts blasting you or knocking you into lava, it felt like an accomplishment to finally see one in the distance >>1849968 >>1850069 I'm curious what their current "design principles" even are, because just based on what they've added in recent memory it would be almost as barebones as minetest, only being able to brag about having animals but not being able to do anything but tame them as pets
>>1849978 >Is jeb retarded? Yes. >>1848646 Several things as other anons above have pointed out but personally for me it's that the new world gen fucks with biome generation. The way it use to work is that the game would generate each biome according to its own rules as you got to it based on world seed. Now it seems to generate the world, including big fuckoff mountains, and then layer biomes on top of it. Also this >>1848778 >no floating islands like the good ol' days because a game with zombies and dragons apparently needs to have 'realistic' terrain generation
>>1849057 Funny enough, I don't think they're all that bad since you can swim faster. They put ice skates in BTA but going anywhere near water without a boat is still a chore. Maybe they'll add flippers someday? >>1849498 >Good, I got bored of the same old spaghetti caves that was the only type of generation Bigger caves aren't bad, it's just that Mojang implemented them poorly. Large, open spaces that are nearly pitch-black unless you have your brightness maxed out means mobs spawn constantly. I don't know if the circumstances are different on your machine, but I wasn't exaggerating when I said that people spawn right behind your back on Bedrock. They'd be easier to dispatch if I could get my hands on some iron, but there isn't any in most caves thanks to >>1848788. >You're bad at the game. The game is badly designed*. >Nu-Nether is light years better to travel through. You have godlike patience to even attempt making it that far. By the time I finally get to make a house I can't take it anymore and find something else to do.
>>1850546 >Large, open spaces that are nearly pitch-black unless you have your brightness maxed out means mobs spawn constantly What do mean pitch black? You could usually see the outlines of the cave walls especially with glowroot being everywhere. Are you using some realistic darkness mod or something? > but I wasn't exaggerating when I said that people spawn right behind your back on Bedrock. <Bedrock What self-respecting anon would willingly play the inferior version when the java version exists >iron how the fuck can you not get 30 iron for a full iron set when there's villages every 100 blocks and easy cave entrances
>>1851142 >What do you mean pitch black? I mean there is no light outside of glowing moss which illuminates a radius of... one block. >What self-respecting anon would willingly play the inferior version when the java version exists Pic related. >villages every 100 blocks and easy cave entrances Mojang messed up ore generation and villages are made up of scammers trying to sell you carrots for 4 emeralds.
>>1852180 >villages are made up of scammers trying to sell you carrots for 4 emeralds. So nothing's changed?
>>1852188 weapon/tool/armorsmiths can sell you enchanted diamond gear if you spend the time trading with them, easiest trade to exploit for emeralds is fletchers stick for emeralds one, i dont think theres a villager selling iron ingots/ore directly, the smiths also sell iron gear at a level inbetween stone and diamond tiers
Show me a more annoying combo than this.

>>1862131 jou don't say?
>>1863845 Sometimes I wonder if the blocky voxel art style of stuff like this was the only reason the game even took off with the general public, or if any of them even cared about the original design concept. Now it's babby's first survival game and used for selling kids toys and teaching why mass immigration is totally cool and epic.
>>1872491 It probably didn't hurt. It came out right around the time the "retro pixel game" thing was taking off.
How long until they cancel shelves because they forgot about the no slot machines rule?
>>1873684 W-wha?
(3.20 MB 1280x720 2Acaod2hVj_8UEQm.mp4)

just learned Mojang nerfed the spear into uselessness why do they hate fun so much
>>1832885 Is there a 1.20.1 forge mod with a sort of demon-/vampire-hunting and/or Christian aesthetic and additional combat bonuses against undead creatures? Not like Monster Hunter, more like the crazy priest from Hellsing? The closest one I've found so far is Vampirism but there are issues with it balance-wise and how it lets people become vampires. I want people fighting evil and looking cool while doing it, not becoming evil
>>1874169 because they don't want to make combat fun, they want to make it tedious so that players don't engage with it and play peaceful instead why else would they have added a combat update that actively makes combat worse, making a sword useless with the long cooldown on swinging making even a hoe more effective in combat against large groups, the swipe effect of the sword is pitiful and doesn't really offset the downside of the long cooldown and yeah the ax is the best weapon overall to chunk down health but it ends up being annoying having to micro-manage a weapon set when all you're trying to do is mine for ores, the combat update was nothing but a detriment to anything but pvp servers where weapon management would actually be integral, normal gameplay has to suffer for it
(14.66 MB 1280x720 a.webm)

>>1874169 >into uselessness >an enchantment that instead of nuking your weapon durability it nukes your hunger bar Lower hunger cost is warranted, but you can't act like it breaking a solid tenth of a diamond/netherite spear's durability was any better. The effect was good, but the cost was shit and is now shit. Better option than either would be to give it a short cooldown and a small hunger cost like shields and horns. Or technically swords. >>1877939 You mentioned Vampirism, but I think Vampirism is the only mod that really has the Vampire Hunter "class" as a concept. But, pair that with a mod that adds silver weaponry (did Ice and Fire do this? I think it did) and adds traditional undead weaknesses (Mods like these do exist, certainly for 1.12.) and you could probably get something like what you want.
>>1874046 You know the https://archive.ph/cBRyE IE minecraft-usage-guidelines says no gambling. And then there are the secret guidelines that aren't public but many signs point to those rules existing. One of said secret guidelines is severs cannot have in game gambling tables resembling IRL gambling, such as roulette tables, and slot machines. I bring up this in relation to shelves because you can very easily make a slot machine that spins items around with the soon to be shelves
>>1879944 >in game gambling tables meant "in game gambling", no tables
