For Minecraft discussion, builds, pictures, videos, and YouTube. >Frequently Asked Stupid Questions Q: I stopped playing months ago, what's new in Minecraft? A: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Version_history Q: What launcher should I use? A: PolyMC is the current flavor of multiMC fork. Q: How do I install mods? A: Download the Fabric or Forge modloaders, install for the version you want, and launch the game to generate the necessary files. then go through Curse's awful shitty search system until you find a mod you want, download it, and put it in your new mods folder in the minecraft directory. Check the mod's curse page for more specific installation requirements and dependencies. >Official stuff: * Website - http://minecraft.net * Forums - http://minecraftforum.net * Mojang - http://mojang.com * Wiki - http://minecraft.gamepedia.com >Launchers: * Prism (Regularly updated general purpose launcher) - https://prismlauncher.org/ * PollyMC (Pirate friendly fork of Prism) - https://github.com/fn2006/PollyMC * PonyMC (Certified clown launcher) - https://www.reddit.com/r/PolyMCLauncher/ >Mod downloads and wikis: * Curseforge (the biggest mod/texturepack/resources repository) - https://minecraft.curseforge.com/ * Feed the Beast (another big repository) - http://feed-the-beast.com * FTB wiki (the biggest mod wiki) - https://ftbwiki.org/Feed_The_Beast_Wiki * The other ftb wiki (slightly less useful than the first) - https://ftb.gamepedia.com/ * Japan forum (has some hidden gems, hope you speak 日本語) - https://forum.civa.jp * MCModBrowser - https://mcmodbrowser.neocities.org >Modding Tools and Documentation: * Current Forge docs (1.15/1.16) - https://mcforge.readthedocs.io * Forge docs GitHub archive (1.12-1.16) - https://github.com/MinecraftForge/Documentation * Forge docs GitHub archive (1.7) - https://skmedix.github.io/ForgeJavaDocs/javadoc/forge/1.7.10-10.13.4.1614/ * Fabric mod loader (1.14+) - https://fabricmc.net/ * Example mods (1.8-1.15) - https://github.com/TheGreyGhost/MinecraftByExample * McJty tutorials (1.10/1.12/1.14) - https://wiki.mcjty.eu/modding/index.php?title=Main_Page * Open source mods list - https://github.com/agaricusb/ForgeMod/wiki/List-of-Open-Source-Forge-Mods * A bunch of docs about mod development for 1.7 - https://gtnh.miraheze.org/wiki/Development * A Guide for hosting your own server for (((free))) [(((free))) means paying with your personal info :^)] - https://blogs.oracle.com/developers/post/how-to-set-up-and-run-a-really-powerful-free-minecraft-server-in-the-cloud >Old mod links (you might find good stuff in here, but it's best to stick to curseforge for general purpose searches): * Mod list - http://bot.notenoughmods.com * Another mod list - http://modlist.mcf.li * Resource links - http://minecraftforum.net/forum/41- * Beta repository - https://archive.org/details/minecraftbeta1.7.3modarchive
What if there was a factory pack that was based around trading? Instead of dumping resources into components for machines you could get a random quest that asks for x amount of some component or finished product (like chairs, tables, etc) in exchange for an amount of coins, then you can use those coins to buy more machines or exotic resources. Then you look at what quests are available, choose the demand you want to fulfill, then use those coins to buy machines and set up more automation. As you complete more quests, the sell prices of goods adjust based on how much you sell, encouraging either multiple sources of income and increasingly diverse farms and products, or specialization in certain products to produce them more efficiently. Villages could be reworked into trade hubs that use these mechanics to grow and adapt based on economic conditions. Imagine making a factory that cut down logs and turned them into furniture, then sending them on a train to a village where they get dropped off, and then the train returns with imported goods and emeralds (or "emerald coins"). Or maybe a factory imports iron ore, makes a variety of iron tools, then sells them back at a profit. Maybe a priest needs alchemical catalysts for an enchantment and there could be a laboratory that takes mundane components and converts them into alchemy-ready materials.
>>1059987 Fandom has bought that wiki, https://minecraft.wiki/ is the new one.
I've not played Minecraft in over ten years, how is the state of it? Is it basically the same game but with a few new things like villagers and bees, or has it become a completely different game that just shares the visuals?
>>1059992 They made it deeper in the overworld but theres enough stuff aboveground to never need to go strip-mining. New nether biomes and a higher tier of weapon and armor from blowing up the nether until you find a some. Torches now prevent spawns from light level 2 rather than 7 or whatever it was. It's the same game all around, nothing like what hytale or notch's minecraft 2 would be.
>>1059992 the only important thing is that microsoft cancelled the sex update by sending a cease and desist to the author of the jenny mod
>>1059992 >I've not played Minecraft in over ten years, how is the state of it? Completely directionless. There is legitimately new stuff but none of it congeals to anything. There are like five new rock types that have no use beyond building. There are new mobs like the Sniffler which are so rare and have so little impact they might as well not exist. They added two new ores, one of which has no purpose (besides one useful item which which just repackages what used to be a basic feature, zooming), you can't even make tools out of it; the other is so rare it's hardly worth the effort. Oh yeah, they also added a mob that attacks you constantly if you don't sleep regularly. The biggest differences you'll notice are >the completely reworked world generation >massively expanded Nether content Besides that, it's still more or less the same core game it was in 2014 with more shit tacked on, not all of it good. There's a joke in the community that Minecraft feels like it's being developed by three different people with opposing interests who are all unaware the other two exist. >>1060007 Is that what happened? Wew lad. That was a really well animated mod, too.
>>1059989 There's a few packs that have similar ideas to that. Not usually making inane things like furniture, but the loop of "buy materials, turn it into finished product" exists. >>1059992 Biggest update was making the underground deeper and adding Sculk. In my opinion, the underground updates were probably the best of the post 1.13 update series, followed by the nether update. It's generally the same game, and I personally still stick with modded (which has its own issues.) The problem with nu-minecraft is that there's something of an A team and a B team. The A team has good ideas and drops shit every 3-4 years. The B team is in charge of the regular updates (regular meaning 8-10 months) and add inconsequential shit like leaf piles. They recently added "the pale garden" which is a mini biome part of dark oak forests, which have weeping angel treants. It's pretty minimal though. Microsoft has made Nu-Mojang's update speed problem even worse. And the lack of modding support means mods break and get stranded anyways. >>1060007 >>1060065 Biggest issue with the jenny mod is the idiot was trying to make money off of it. More specifically, paywalling the entire mod behind patreonbux and adding DRM. Mojang is rather hands off with minecraft shit so this was probably a brand-image + making shitloads of money issue.
>>1060100 Pretty sure mojang gets anal about guns on vanilla servers too.
>>1060101 yeah but they're pretty inconsistent with that. All sorts of wild brand image shit are on mojang's own official server list (mainly child gambling, i mean surprise mechanics). Adding a whole r34 subculture though is one hell of a brand image problem and its one that the jenny fag popularized. (and made loads of mone over.)
>>1060103 Now imagine it got leaked in completed form out of spite :^)
>>1060101 Because the newer devs are very anti-violence. I can't remember who said it, but I once read somebody joke that modern Mojang wouldn't allow you to hunt wildlife if they were only starting Minecraft today. They're obviously trying to instill morals into kids, Mojang is acutely aware MC's playerbase is very young and a lot of their actions make more sense in that context.
>>1060106 someone else is actually working on it now, the source was handed over to another developer but it's still not opened so who knows if it's not just a bitcoin miner >>1060107 it really is stupid how development seems like a tug of war between devs trying to add adventure elements and devs trying to convert it into a petting zoo, especially considering that it wouldn't be that much of an undertaking to simply make peaceful mode more pg by taking out entity damage entirely
Can someone explain why I can't just find a torrent for whatever the newest version is and install it? I have no interest or desire to play multiplayer at all. I just want to find out what the fuss is with this game since I've never played it.
>>1060145 Minecraft is kind of annoying to pirate, it might actually be easier to play one of the open source clones of it. They're not 1:1 but they're pretty close.
>>1060145 >>1060150 Since you just want to find out what the fuss is and not go deep, if it's annoying to pirate you could play on an emulator.
Since you have no interest or desire to play multiplayer and all.
>>1060145 I'm not sure I would even recommend the newest version, not even for free.
>>1060145 literally just use the polymc launcher, it downloads the game and allows you to create an "offline account" with any username, and it wont try to authenticate it as a mojang/microsoft account you can play any version, just create an instance and pick whatever version you want it also can directly download modpacks or individual mods off curseforge and modrinth which curseforge has made an absolute ball ache to do anything on that god forsaken site
>>1060145 Download pollymc and have fun
>>1060100 The Jenny mod is still around. they added kobolds and now I spend my time creating basically an ant colony where my koboldfs strip mine for me while I breed more of them
>>1060145 To elaborate >>1060181 if you really want to find out why the game became so popular you should play one of the earlier versions. Every anon will give you a different "best version" but to try to get that classic feel go find the version from just before they added horses. If you want an even more classic feel try the version just before hunger was added. >torrent Another option, if you have or can get an old console is to get one of the old console discs. 360 version for example. Which is functionally a first party Minecraft clone and different in several ways but it'll give you the basic feel.

Guys look minecraft
Probably fake, but there's a purported leak of Minecraft's 3-year-plan. The only notable thing about it is a planned spinoff called Spiceworld, but judging by Minecraft's other spinoffs I wouldn't hold much hope for it. The image kind of looks like it's made in MS Paint but the Spiceworld logo looks oddly decent, strange.

>>1060828 Was there always 2 minecraft livestreams per year?? I thought the streams are only for the lazy Mob votes
>>1060828 Why do they call it "Minecraft Live" when Minecraft is fucking dead?
>>1060854 >Minecraft is fucking dead Is this bait? Minecraft sold 300,000,000 times, better than any game.
>>1060920 Lifetime sales have nothing to do with if a game is "dead." "Dead" refers to how many people are currently playing. Maybe he's still wrong, I don't play this shit, but I'm bothered by your bad logic or understanding of English.
>>1060921 >Thinking after selling 300,000,000 times, better than any game, it would be dead Black Ops II's a top 50 all time best seller worldwide. If Minecraft had a tenth of Black Ops II's retention, Minecraft would be less dead than Black Ops II. Even retarded Guatemalans with half the standard IQ can understand why a game that sold better than any isn't dead, so your bad logic, and pre-fraction understanding of math, isn't real, and you're overbaiting when my English was perfect. Get better bait if you want more lasting arguments.
>>1060930 Sometimes things can be very popular at one time and not at other times. Big fads can fade. I don't know about this particular one, but I do know that lifetime sales aren't necessarily the same as current life.
>>1060854 >>1060921 >>1060934 Talking absolute shit
>>1060920 consider how many sales were during the $5 era, then it jumped to what, $10? $20? Now it's like $30? I know people were buying up a ton of gift and alt accounts just because of how god damn cheap it used to be. Now a lot of those accounts are just dead because of the stupid migration bullshit, where unless you had the original receipt and/or email used to acquire the account you effectively had no recourse, microsoft just held a knife to your head and said "we're not FORCING you, but if you can't deliver what we want we are taking the game away" and even if you COULD deliver a 15 year old receipt/email to migrate, and went through the arduous process of setting up a microsoft account just to play autism bricks, you could get your brand new account suspended the NEXT DAY, in which you are forced to identify yourself with a phone number "for security" to access your account again, which is fat load of horse shit because there is no prompt to set up 2fa in the first place when creating the account just to lure the player into a false sense of security. First you de-anonymize the players, tie all of their games together under on umbrella, one account, one terms of service, then you take away their games for violating the vague and arbitrary rules, it's free money in microsofts pocket because it's money they don't have to waste supporting those players and in-house servers, and if the player wants to play again well they have to get a new identity and buy it all over again, microsoft rubs their hands like flies on shit
>>1060828 so there's 2 WB projects this year? or is it to represent the VOD ralease of the movie? I assume that's what that means since the first WB logo says "Theatrical"

4D Miner dev log, if anyone cares about that. It's a four dimensional Minecraft where every individual seed (in just 3D space) is 15,000 light years on a side. For some reason. The uniqueness is just in the 4 dimensionality of it, not the unnecessarily large size. Seems like the perfect next step for people autistic enough to play Minecraft. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4CMKoVgqOM
>>1071632 I was somewhat interseted in that but the crowd funding for that didn't reach its goal, is the dev still working on it?
>>1071677 Apparently. The video's from only a few hours ago.
Does anyone know anything about some Minecraft fan-animation where some guy and a girl are stealing bank trucks and being chased by a frog security guard?
What I really hate is there is no "best version" for me to go back to.
>>1075067 There actually is a version the modding community settled on, I can't remember which. Beta 1.7.3 I think? There's a whole scene trying to expand the game from that point called Better Than Adventure! https://www.betterthanadventure.net/ The idea is "What if 2011 Minecraft kept going in that direction?"
>>1075105 That's quite nice actually. I hope they add just a few more decorative block though.

>>1075155 Are you the anon that was adding turkeys and things? >>1075105 In particular I hope they add some hay and thatch blocks. And carpets. Of the "newer" blocks those are some that I would really have a hard time living without.
>>1075105 >community You mean one group for one mod. There's Beta 1.7.3, 1.2.5, 1.7.10, 1.12.2, 1.16.5, 1.19, 1.20.1, 1.21.1... which illustrates exactly the kind of reason why old mods just die. Thaumcraft still hasn't been ported past the 1.12.2->1.13 barrier. It's precisely the fact that the community hasn't settled on a version past one or two updates behind. (Which isn't "settling" as is just waiting for the 150 or so "major mods" to update or have alternate versions and abandoning the rest in favor the new version.)
>>1059992 They changed the world generation multiple times and the last major one was a bridge too far for me.
>>1075105 >>1075446 The best solution I think would be for /v/ to "adopt" a mod (Like BTA or that other anon's mod) as their official version and keep a server or two running of it as /v/ official server. Try to collect everyone together in a rallying point of sorts.
>>1075639 I've never done any minecraft modding. How complicated is it?
>>1076426 Depends on the version. It gets easier as time goes on, simply because mods got internal datapacks to help implement things. But it's Java, so it's still going to be a pain in the ass depending on what you want to do.
>>1075105 >There actually is a version the modding community settled on The most popular versions are 1.7, 1.12 and 1.21, the latter being the current version. Updates used to break shit fairly regularly but as a modding platform it's been pretty stable since 1.18 (ie. it's easy to make a few minor adjustments, if needed at all, to update a mod from 1.18 to 1.19 to 1.20 and so on whereas going from 1.7 to 1.8 or 1.12 to 1.13 was more difficult). Old versions are played a lot because a lot of popular and very good mods and modpacks (like Thaumcraft 4) stopped being supported and/or ported to new versions.
>>1076426 if you mean installing a mod, it's very simple, plenty of launchers will do it for you, if you mean making a mod... without a good undestanding of java, it is difficult, you not only need to learn java but also how to use any of the apis and libraries you have to choose from forge/neoforge/fabric/quilt as your modding api, and there are too many library mods to count where developers were inventing their own version of the wheel just for their mod, and many of them probably do the same thing, which you should look through anyway because it would be faster to use a library that provides features you'd want to include instead of re-inventing the wheel AGAIN, and you have to get familiar with an IDE like intellij, and the gradle build system but let's say you also want to do something visual, like add a mob, then you'd want to get familiar with blockbench to start designing mobs or NPCs buut if you want to have more than simple swinging around animations then you'll have to install the geckolib plugin for blockbench, and also read the api documentation for geckolib so you know how to use the model and the animation you just worked on or you can ignore most of that and use mcreator like a bunch of new modders, which may lack a bunch of features but lets you shit something out at a breakneck pace there will always be one constant with whatever you decide on though: documentation will always be fucking awful and if something isn't working you will not find a single fucking answer because everyone started their own discord channel to gatekeep support oh and good luck finding a single tutorial worth a damn, because it seems every person who started making a tutorial on how to do anything gave up before getting to anything more complex than adding a new tool or block, because of how fast versions change
Been playing modded Minecraft again, trying to actually learn tech and magic mods. I managed to figure out Agricraft somewhat (I know it's easy to figure out) and created a temporary AE2 network. It sucks so far but it's the beginning.
(719.61 KB 879x648 why.jpg)

Not Mineycrafta, but it fits better here than the Loo Aunty thread. Hytale released another dev update. https://hytale.com/news/2025/3/spring-2025-development-update They're redesigning more shit, and they still haven't finished the fucking engine. The rest is lore 'tism. What a disaster this game's development has been.
Is there a way to get a free copy of 1.7.3 or earlier Minecraft that I can play with other people? Not even necessarily via piracy, I just don’t care about any of the censored Xbox menu troon stuff.
>>1084039 yes, download polymc launcher and just pick the version you want, you need to make an offline account under profiles and that's it, no authentication needed

Hi. What the shit? Terminologically correct it is an no rules server. 2b2t is the only Beta 1.7.3 server out there true to Minecraft's gamemode: survival. It's the only server not infested by idiot-cunt-kid admins fucking up the server with every Bukkit plugin out there. The server is completely vanilla with the exception of the Bukkit plugin NoCheat. There are no admins, no moderators, no OPs, no bans, no kicks, no punishment, no rules, no nothing. It's up to you to survive. And that's why we like it. People from all over the Internet has adventured (and is still adventuring): from Betacraft, 4chan, 8kun, Discord and r/GoldenAgeMinecraft. We're all equally worthless on this server. Nobody cares if you are raped, your base is destroyed, your friends betray you and your shit is stolen. If you're even more worthless and don't know what to do, type "/rules" and "/guide" or visit our website https://2b2t.infy.uk/, it'll give you a friendly insight. >It's 2b2t.ddns.net:25695 Version Beta 1.7.3 to connect if you didn't know. There is no whitelist. Some common questions you may have if you are clueless • How do you get so much TNT? http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Mob_Farm • Why are some people so rich? Because they're cunts and used a duplicator exploit to duplicate blocks. • How do I stay safe? By not being a complete and utter moron. You heard right - it's that easy. • Can I join... Nope. • Will the map ever reset? "Not unless Microsoft or Mojang forces me to" • Has anyone ever been banned? Nope. And nobody will. The stats as of April 10th 2025: 2420 unique players have connected. World is 4 months old. World is 15.6 GB. Type "/server" in chat or https://servers.legacyminecraft.com/server/51 for updated information.

im deciding to go for zesty theming of my base, cherry wood and calcite for stone touches, mainly because I always default to spruce and deepslate so im going completely fucking opposite. what are some decorative mods that would go good with zesting the fuck up??
>>1093758 >what are some decorative mods that would go good with zesting the fuck up?? If you give me your version I can probably be more specific, but there are chisel and architecture block mods for most of them. You could also try Ztone/Xtone if you want a whole shitload of new blocks to play with. Project Red - Illumination also has some options for lights but they're more futuristic than cozy.
>>1094104 Oh right, I meant for 1.20
>>1094237 >1.20 Rechiseled and Xtones if you just want new textures to play with; if you want to play around with slopes and corners you could try out FramedBlocks and if you want even more fiddly details you could use Chisels and Bits. I'm not sure that C&B plays nice out of the box with those first two though, or even at all, so you'd have to look into that yourself. Macaw's Windows and Macaw's roofs are pretty decent for building as well.

Funny I only just now noticed this thread, my friends got me back into Minecraft like a month ago. There's always something so cozy about building a base and farm and little town to live in. Still wish Mojang had copied Terraria's method of acquiring villagers, the Minecraft villagers have always been absolute cancer on legs. >>1103410 I still don't understand how anyone can play with the vanilla resource pack without their eyes bleeding. Dokucraft is free and I've always thought it looks very nice.
>>1098890 It's incredibly fun; if you start playing it and have any questions or want to ask for any advice then post here. >>1098878 >It's honestly not as bad/long/hard as people say it is. >bad At least not until until LuV+ when it becomes spamming multis to get the materials throughput to upgrade your infrastructure to get the ability to spam more multis ad infinitum; before that it's world-class and there's nothing comparable. The GTNH quest book has honestly spoiled me more than anything else in the pack. >long I mean, that depends on where you stop. Even getting to HV with a decent amount of infrastructure can take a couple hundred hours for someone busting their cherry (assuming they don't quit before then) and lawnbasing and the T7 rocket takes 1500+ for players who know what they're doing. Nothing is stopping someone from just playing as they like, however. Even making it to HV in the first place is a hell of an accomplishment. >hard Depends on how you're defining difficulty, really. If you're talking about an ebin hardcore survival challenge where the average enemy will rape you to death instantly and you have to drink your own piss to avoid dying of dehydration after spending thirty seconds in a desert biome then no, GTNH isn't hard; once you get a decent crossbow and the healing axe you're basically golden barring bad luck or bad judgement. On the other hand, BTW doesn't expect you to use logic gates to optimize your petrochemical production or offer you the option to program your own in-game drones in lua.

>>1105304 I guess I misspoke about it not being long. It certainly is long, but the way I play it doesn't make it feel "long." My issue when vanilla and other packs is that you get to the point where everything is done and all there is left to do is build or whatever, not much room for practicality. I enjoy GTNH because it gives me real excuses to build things. Although a lot of what I build it's optimal or "worth the time," I like that I have my own little city of buildings, bridges, paths, infrastructure, mines, outposts, etc. Make it my own little world, you know? Builder wands are a godsend too.

>>1103881 I play exclusively modded, so not doing a texture pack at all makes sense. Unless I want to hunt down texture packs for individual mods that stick out. Though, Dokucraft or Sphax were the main ones I preferred when I did use them. Of the two I liked Dokucraft better overall.
What version are you playing mcg? Currently playing on 1.19, it has good mods and I don't see anything on 1.20 or 1.21 to justify starting a new world right now. 1.21 is the current version, is it any better in comparison to 1.20? >>1122417 Can't in my case. With how bloated MC is nowadays I absolutely need optimization mods. Optimization aside (like FO). AppleSkin and Jade have been very useful.
>>1130213 Ive been sticking with forge 1.20. Its been bretty gud >Forestry >Create below 6.0 addons >Tinkers construct is focusing on 1.20 >Monstergirl mods >Thermal expansion Honestly i dont even know whats new in 1.21 besides oritech and modern industrialization
>>1130213 >What version are you playing mcg? 1.21.4, I used that version because it was the latest available when I ported my bedrock map to java. I didn't remember which bedrock version was the last one before I stopped playing so using the newest seemed a good idea to avoid missing stuff. Probably not updating until every single mod and resource pack I use gets updated too. >>1130213 >>1122417 (me) >Can't in my case. With how bloated MC is nowadays I absolutely need optimization mods. >>1083917 looks like shit
What version (and possibly mods) are you nostalgic towards? For me its modded 1.7.3 with industrial craft.
>>1132748 the last beta version before the adventure update came. hunger, healing no longer insta-healing and passive mob spawning changes made minecraft a very different game, at least for me. as for mods, yea, i would also say old industrialcraft, back when it was developed by the original guy (can't remember his name, sorry). oh, and balkon's weapons mod, if i remember the name correctly. one of the few weapon mods that really fit the minecraft atmosphere and i could see it being added to vanilla.
>>1132748 I have nostalgia for several versions, when better than wolves was first made I remember I added redpower which was still primitive at the time, and had a very cozy windmill home setup on top of a hill, with a bedroom up in the top that overlooked a lake and the hemp field next to it, so that when it rained I could just listen to the ambience and make sure the windmill bearing was disengaged so it wouldn't explode. Several floors when down into the hill below and I made an elevator shaft with the redstone lamps and redpower wires going down the sides, I think I had almost gotten to making the advanced armor. It was 1.2.5 I think when tekkit rolled out, and while I don't remember anything spectacular I did just have fun with figuring out all the different mods. I think then 1.4.x through 1.6.4 it was all about FTB which was everything tekkit was plus more, and still learning new things about all the mods included and creating insane factories with all the janky ways everything interacted, like automating the creation of every item through the use of ic2+equivalent exchange, building huge moving contraptions with redpower, learning fortran to control all the redstone machines, making big pnuematic pipe networks to sort items, maxing out the stats on every rare ic2 crop, automating coffee brewing for infinite stat boosts, micromanaging a nuclear reactor that's powering a huge forcefield around the whole base, learning lua to program turtles to automate brewing alcohol with ic2, and the added fun of figuring out ways to break server plugins that prevented crafting overpowered items which I didn't need for anything but just because I could do it then I think it was either 1.6.4 or 1.7.x of FTB included gregtech, steves carts, and thaumcraft (at least what I consider the best version of thaumcraft), and I was felt like everything peaked Oh and I totally forgot about... shit I almost forgot the name of it, factorization! I was absolutely in the zone with combining all these systems together that all served very specific purposes. I remember building a huge base with a few players entirely out of construction foam, spent so much time using golems in some automated tree farms, just transporting odd stuff not because it was needed but because it broke the monotony, gradually upgrading item storage from maxed out barrels to quantum storage units, from pipes and wires to gregtech machines because they served both needs, color coding floors and walls and ceilings to know which had wires and which voltage wire they had inside, factorization routers were great to fuel up just a wall of machines almost instantly, and the exosuit it added didn't get nearly enough love for how useful it was, but I loved that gregtech was basically modular multiblock machines since every machine could deliver power adjacent to it to another machine, you could have complex systems that took up almost no space at all other than that, there was just one server that was vanilla except for a server plugin called runecraft, that if you arrange blocks in a specific pattern, you could activate them to do certain things like grow trees or build domes/walls, teleport from one to another, I think it was prior to hunger being added
>>1133369 >server sad thing is even multiplayer used to be fun. I remember played like 1.8 on server that had Towny and Heroes plugins installed, around 100 players in peak hours every day. The server had massive lore written, players choose between several towny nations, each having its own continent and climate. Nowdays 99% of servers is just shitty minigames that turned mc into some gacha game where players buy perks and some shit. Its sad how this game ended up.
>>1060204 >PolyMC Ever since I found out other launchers have automatic java version management I've fucked off from Poly to Prism. Poly is really outdated.
>>1134174 I tried to relive the glory days of the old tekkit version, and while it still was able to launch, still playable, I noticed some textures missing. I just couldn't feel that spirit I had all those years ago. I don't remember the more intricate things like redpower gates and fortran any more, if I wanted to play with others I'd have to setup a server and I don't want to have to admin it, I just want to have fun, then I think "what do I actually build?", do I rebuild what I remember, build them even bigger, or finish builds I never had the chance to before? Just feels like a waste of time now. Maybe I just don't know how to have fun any more.
>>1134428 >Maybe I just don't know how to have fun any more. Man do I feel that. The march of time is a never ending and cruel mechanism.

>>1137858 Create and create addons mostly. Otherwise it's leaning more towards minimalism than kitchen sink. This is because of the custom texture work done by TJF who is the admin - adding more mods means more work for him to make the blocks fit in. We've been having a lot of fun with Supplementaries actually, great mod, lots of comfy little features. Same with Farmer's Delight and Amendments.
>>1152834 Oh if anybody is not running Better Days, what are you doing with your life. Night time every 10 minutes? What the fuck was Notch thinking? Our day/night cycle is extended to 1 hour and man it's a lot nicer. At night, time will speed up depending on the percentage of players sleeping. So if you're just by yourself the night is skipped instantly like in vanilla, else it takes a bit and the non-sleeping players can see the stars speeding up. It's great. Also encourages making an actual house with bedroom to go to, rather than just carrying a bed with you at all times.

In the Wisteria villages they use a blue/purple/pink colour scheme (like real life Wisteria trees), but the creator thought he was being sly by putting tranny flags in some of the structures and making the beds follow the tranny colour scheme. I'm looking into a way to remove both of these, but I don't have much experience with editing .nbt files.

Finally removed a shit ton of bloat from TFMG and other mods. That's looking much better. Now to rename and fix some grammar, then its on to making ore variants for each of the three planets (and moon). BTW, how easy would it be for a non-coder to add functionalities to mods. Like, I want to make the Stuffs and Additions Brass Drone not work on worlds without an atmosphere, can I do that? To be honest, I don't really need to go that far, since Northstar allows its own combustion engine to work on other planets, but it would be quite weird to see drones working on the moon.
There NEEDS to be a TFMG overhaul texture pack. New Age has one, so I don't get why TFMG doesn't when it has considerably worse textures.
>>1181954 it depends, if the mod is open source then you could clone from the git repo, find the class for the brass drone, and add a condition that checks if it's currently in a specific dimension (overworld/nether/end/etc) in it's logic, otherwise explode or drop as an item or just do nothing other options I think would be using a mod that prevents items from being used/existing per dimension
>>1170568 Actually, alternative question: how do I get Neoforge installed with any launcher using cracked Minecraft? Have tried PollyMC, Fjord Launcher Unlocked, and ElyPrismLauncher, all have the same issue of being unable to recognize my installation. Is there a manual drag-and-drop option instead of using the jar?
What the hell is up with ore distribution now? I just spent two hours trying to find coal under my desert and I didn't find ONE piece of coal. Went to a swamp and got a full stack as soon as I got through the mud. I looked in the caves, I strip mined at different levels, I went through multiple diamond pickaxes without finding a single coal ore.
>>1186452 I do really hate ore generation now, since they've increased the height limit of the world. Strip mining seems less efficient than just exploring open caves. I didn't think biome has anything to do with it though.

Built a nice little drawbridge for Spawn Town's narrowboat to pass through. Fully functional on a sequenced gearshift to go up and down. However it's not yet linked to the boat (which is actually a train, the bogey is in a tunnel under the river, just connected by glass panes). The boat will remain stationary for a little bit as I have to put some comparator observer stuff in to connect the train signals to the gearshift operating the bridge. The schedule is in my inventory for now. We'll have to see how long this goes well, very likely some chunk loading or unloading will fuck the bridge controls and the deck will be upside down or diving into the water soon enough. Not to mention the visual glitch potential. Ah well. I have to say this mechanical bearing system in Create is cool but kinda hard to work with, the trains part of the mod seem a lot more polished and easy to work with.

>>1195706 as was always the case, it's because minecraft adds new features, a lot of the time useless ones, but modders know if they don't update to latest version they will be swamped with comments "UPDATE WHEN?" look at any project on curseforge and check the comments, it's absolute cancer
>>1197607 yeah, this is why 1.7.10 was such a golden age, years without an update to summon these morons and make modders start over again makes me wish mojang would drop support for java edition, we'd finally have a "definitive edition" to support.

Like all camera mods, OrthoCamera is mega cheaty and allows you to see through blocks into caves, see behind walls, below into tunnels etc. As you can see the viewing distance is very large too. Do not install in multiplayer unless you have explicit permission from the group/admin. It's pretty much like having a button that changes you into spectator mode. I've pretty much ignored Minecraft mods for the last decade and just discovered Beyond Ascension This shit is fucking amazing and what I dreamed of Minecraft being like all those years ago. A friend told me its not that unique and reminds him of something called "RLCraft". I looked it up and it has only half the amount of mods as this. I'm extremely ignorant when it comes to this stuff, has anyone here played this modpack?
>>1221521 >RLCraft I don't know about Beyond Ascension but judging by your friend's description that modpack is likely tedious (crafting certain tools like a simple axe needs a lot of busy work), has levels of progression (need certain level to eat stuff like a potato or break certain blocks), has difficult to trollish mobs and bosses (your picture has Mutant Monsters), and an emphasis of survival management (RLCraft had, I think, bleeding, body parts that specifically needed to be tended to, and a thirst bar). It's likely a more RPG-based modpack + survival elements, judging by it having both the Aether and Twilight Forest mod, I say it's an exploration-based one too.
>>1221722 It doesnt seem tedious to me, I dont see any leveling system or thirst/heat mechanics. What are some other popular modpacks like this? Is this the best of the best?

>>1221110 Something I noticed with Aaron's tracks is that they tend to feed back from the work of Lena, rather than into C418's work. The game then loses its sound identity in turn. Either that or they're just writing whatever they feel like, since I'm actually pretty avid with their work already, and it doesn't actually stray far away from work they've already done outside of minecraft. Lena overtime just reverted back to their old style as well once they were allowed to do whatever they wanted.
>>1233431 CnC (purple discs) is all over the place largely because it's that far of a difference from the usual writing style yet I still tried giving it a chance here. Really the only thing worthwhile closer to c4's tracks is Wending, ironically one of the more hated Lena tracks I've seen people talk about. The rest of it tends to shift more toward constant ambience (eg. Stand Tall & Left to Bloom) rather than C4's "spot music" approach. Some exceptions apply.
>>1233550 >constant ambience What's the difference being immersion in an environment through music vs. having some background narrator tell you how to interpret it. That's what makes Lena's approach annoying.
>>1221110 >left to bloom Last year I had a realm with some friends and nobody had played Minecraft in a while. It kept happening that someone would go "Oh my fucking god what is this music? Why is it still fucking going? Where do I go to turn it off?". The song they were talking about was Left to Bloom every time.

What annoys me most is that during normal play you get the same three tracks on repeat and basically never hear any others. >>1240629 I just want to say I hate how fucking annoying the wandering trader is for how often it spawns and the fact that it will spawn in such close proximity that it often gets stuck in whatever I'm building or on top of unfinished structures just to be in the way enough that I have to kill the dickhead every time so I can continue building.
>>1240708 I got a mod that lets me dismiss him for that very reason, but I still like it when he shows up since he's by far the best source of nautilus shells. Though I guess, with the recent change, the odds of getting any one trade has gone down

I simply remove the tranny music because I don't support trannies. I don't care if the music is good or not. I have principles and I stand by them.
>>1243085 That's a very fine stance sir. There's plenty of other music in the world for you to enjoy while playing. I leave the music on because I think trannies don't exist and are just men with mental problems. Some of the greatest art has been made by people with more than a few screws loose. I can enjoy a Van Gogh painting without feeling I'm supporting self harm. I can enjoy the soul that is nuversion music without supporting gender perversion.

Man microsoft really raped this game >>1243085 Based
>>1244079 yes singleplayer is definitely worth it, you can have just as much fun. But playing with friends is definitely a blast as well. Just play vanilla for a bit then when you're ready try out some modpacks. My favorite so far is "Beyond Ascension"
>>1244079 Play it vanilla and follow the advancements menu. Consult the wiki's beginner guides as needed. Play on peaceful difficulty until you get your bearings straight. Then once you have tools, a source of food, and shelter, turn it to another difficulty and practice fighting mobs at night. Use torches to light areas up and prevent hostile mobs from spawning. Alternatively, play on hardcore mode, treat the game as a roguelike, and dick around in it until you inevitably die from too much fall damage or get pin cushioned by a skeleton. Once you die, make a new world and just start all over again but use the lessons you've learned before to make it a bit further and learn something new. Minecraft is all about the stories you make and is fantastic to experience on its own before you even add mods. Mods can completely revolutionize the game to the point it is barely recognizable. Both single player and multiplayer are their own amazing experiences too.
>>1242763 In bedrock they'll spawn near the village bell. Wiki says it only works on claimed bells though, which is kinda restrictive.
>>1244308 >>1244295 Truth be told I've been more a terrariafag but after having coincidentally gotten into Vintage Story awhile back and after beating my head against it enough and clearing that I got an itch for more. So, you'd say singleplayer vanilla is worth it? Any specific version? I've done some research and there's a gorillion recommends all over for which version to play, which overhaul or shader pack to use etc, so I figured might as well ask.
(65.65 KB 720x720 1732691583344696.jpg)

WTF, I didn't realise how OP Claude was. I asked it to edit the source code of New Age to make it so Solar Plates are more or less efficient on different planets (in Northstar). I told it what I wanted and gave it the code, and it gave me code that works perfectly first try. >>1247283 Lmao. That's what happens when you base your mod on another theoretical mod (that will never release either) for another mod. Seriously, this is what will become of every aeronautics / simulated related projects. Imagine thinking that people will keep their interest on a specific project after years upon years of "wait and see" and constant rewries and system changes. Seriously, if you want a good laught and can somehow stomach dickscord then join their server and look for instances of... somebody asking a question about a feature, then somebody "in the know" answers, then the real "dev" answers. Or even better, Instances of the developers themselves insisting on the project not being in its fifth year of dev hell. Unironically place your hopes (or better, don't) on VS/cockwork/related mods. >>1253058 I'm still pissed that around a year ago Maybe 2 at this point they released a statement along the lines of "It's going to be released soon guys!" causing all addon devs for previous versions to stop working on their mods.
What do you mean, are you talking about Aero / simulated, or thaumcrap? The last "big" statement I remember from the aero devs was back in late 2023 stating that hey of course would be missing their promised "before EOY" deadline. And any subsequent deadline, real or not, since the project most likely doesn't exist in any way or shape resembling an actual playable content. I'm not that invested in thaumcraft 7 to know if you are referring to that tho. The moment I knew it was being handed to the cofh faggots I realized it was doomed. The only remotely good thing stemming from that retarded decission by Azanor were the laughs I got at his expense when the first thing them ungrateful troons did after getting the rights to develop a new thaumcraft emtry was putting out a google doc listing every single asset thaumcraft borrowed from other sources, basically leaving this azanor guy for an asset thief.

>>1263740 jesus christ, I barely through this document and it really does seem to be a hit piece in spite of the majority of the images he used being royalty free or without a license existing. >unused image of a golden combination lock dial >idea for thaumic iconograph (from discworld series, along with thaumometer) "consider that more stolen material I guess" >royalty free in the link >I guess Azanor didn't feel the need to pay for it >goggle assets were used .... questionably >thaumcraft goggles taken from a gallery of someone's cosplay project on a website that doesn't claim ownership of the content >no other source that would indicate violating a license in using the image >picture of gold taken from some website that they can only figure was for a scam > I suppose this lends credence to the idea that Azanor just Googled random crap like “gold texture” to get assets; I can’t imagine he’d be particularly interested in an obvious scam like that. >Unless there’s a very sinister truth to Thaumcraft we have yet to uncover… now they're getting into libel territory only some of the assets being copied from other games could really be a dangerous thing to do for obvious reasons, but he was also never selling a product made with ripped assets everything else just seems like Azanor is guilty of just not giving credit to some original sources because he took them right off google image search, problem is if he downloaded the images right off google then he couldn't know what the license for any of it was, and by now the licenses of stuff that was put on deviantart could have been updated, we don't know what the licenses were back in 2010
>>1264583 >I guess Azanor didn't feel the need to pay for it funniest thing is that if you go to the site you see "stock picture" and "start your free trial and grab up to 15 pictures for free" everywhere
>>1264583 i like the idea of Azanor just not having adblock, getting hit with a scam popup and being like "hey, i can use this texture"
>>1264583 >some of the assets being copied from other games could really be a dangerous thing to do for obvious reasons in theory no, a free mod is supposed to fall under fair use, (and some publishers leave their assets available for modders), it's only an issue if you try to make money from it
>>1264630 that's why I pointed out that he wasn't selling it, although some corporations like to throw their weight around
Anybody run a server on an old pc, how is the power draw? How much more expensive a month is it to run? I have a pi but it cant handle more than a couple people loading chunks
>>1266218 a raspberry pi is really bad for a server, unless you plan for only one or two players on vanilla, and even then some mods for optimization should be used I've used older PCs in the past to run servers but I have no idea how performance would compare with newer versions. Older hardware really isn't all that inefficient power-wise, a pentium 4 handled my personal server pretty well back when modding was in its infancy, but had obviously problems like if a user decided to set off a solid tnt cube the size of several chunks. The more players you have, the more memory you need to keep more chunks loaded, and more cores to handle updates across the world. For just a few players, it's more important to have faster processing than higher core count, and faster memory is always going to be better. You can also set up a server so that if there's no players on it will automatically stop the game, saving some money on power.
I miss /civ/.
>>1264560 Then again, Azanor never had any intention of monetizing thaumcraft. I still remember when the mod was distributed by direct download from the official minecraft servers. Seriously, fuck anyone who wants to make mods for shekels. >>1264583 I think they are. or were, trying to associate anything related to the "old" thaumcraft versions with these shady implications of theft and whatnot to appropiate the entire thaumcraft concept for themselves, as in "death to the old thaumcraft, long live to the new thaumcraft". Keep in mind there have been arguements in their dickscord about how to call the project, and I remember (might not be accurate, mind you) some "team" members wanting to simply call it thaumcraft, rather than thaumcraft 7. like faggot devs try to do with new entries in classic/older vidya franchises to try and market their slop and erase any mention of the previous entries from discourse. At the very least, the "other" doc (which explains stuff about this new project) has the decency to refer to it as "TC7". Anyway, what was the name of that mod recently released for 1.7.10 that allowed movable structures like valkyrien skies do? I remember it getting mentioned back in /mmcg/ before cuckchan went offline.
i miss TC4, wish we could have it on a version with Create
>>1271648 Blame the cofh faggots for going after any attempt at porting it to newer versions.
>>1271648 I recently saw a mod that attempts to do exactly that but I don't really know how close it gets. It's called Etherology, but it has two main issues, one being fagbric only and the other is that it seems to lack focus on having third party addons, which is one of the things that made Thaumcraft so great. And even if it were to get some sort of api or whatever for people to make such addons, being stuck on fagbric is a guarantee of low outreach. My suggestion, which I myself have been feeling too lazy to even attempt, is to get a bunch of somewhat okayish magic mods and mashup them into a single seamless (as possible) experience via resource and data-packs for compatibility and consistency. Then again, this datapack thing seems unnecesarily convoluted, I miss the old scripts.
>>1274868 I simply do not understand datapacks at all, I've seen some that are distributed as mods and when I look at the scripts they contain, it just makes no sense whatsoever. I'd much rather use minetweaker because it really is just the easiest thing to use for disabling or changing recipes, although it doesn't support some of the custom crafting handlers of other mods it still does support a lot of them. One thing I've noticed is that a lot of magic mods tend to mesh better than tech mods, too many tech mods all try to do the same things and adds too much redundancy, while magic mods tend to find a niche with radically different mechanics and features they provide. You could easily combine thaumcraft, mystcraft, witchery, and ars magica without overlapping features, but then you have something like botania which on the surface seems like a magic mod, but is really a tech mod in disguise.

What are some good mods that add decent new mobs to the game? I picked up Grimoire of Gaia for the monster girls, but they're pretty annoying to deal with.
>>1293903 Mo' Creatures Extended is still king all these years later. Mowzies mobs seems cool but I've yet to encounter any of them out in the wild on my world. You can change the spawn rates for the monster girls in gaia in the config file. It helps to turn them down. I was getting centaur girls spawning all over my farm and I don't like killing the neutral girls.
>>1293903 At least in 1.12.2 GoG you can make an item to befriend the mobs, but they are still an overpowered pain to deal with. Mowzies are decent too. Years ago I thought the thermal expansion mod sparked the death of modding because then every mod wanted to be the mod that just does everything, unifying all popular mechanics under one hood, making so many mods identical in utility with similar endgame (5x ore processing, indestructible armor, creative flight, instant mining pickaxe that mines a 5x5 area) with only different sprinkles on top to make it look legally distinct but now there's MCreator slop that lets inexperienced people pump out youtuber bait mods in a day and anyone can just copy it

I hope that, if they ever do update the End, it still remains a mostly barren wasteland. Maybe make it a less samey barren wasteland, kinda like Fallout 3. But please, Mojang, do NOT give it the Nether Update treatment and especially don't allow yourselves to be inspired by the Better End modpack! >>1364873 Usually close to one another and biome dependent (Empty deserts/grass plains, non dark oak forests). In fact, it's one of the many complaints about modern minecraft of having too much populated structures and not enough ruins
Looks like my map has corrupted chunks, some of them go down to the "new" generation (-64 I think?) meanwhile others stop at 0 and still have bedrock there
>>1059987 My server with friends got 3 horses next to our base. I don't have a saddle. Do I have to wait 2 weeks for the update that makes saddles craftable to be able to tame them? Will horses despawn if we leave them alone?
>>1368697 you just have to tame them with food, or throw a name tag on them, although I don't think horses despawned in the first place either of those methods would keep them around
>>1368697 >Do I have to wait 2 weeks for the update that makes saddles craftable to be able to tame them? Why don't you use a mod/datapack that adds a recipe for saddles instead? It's your server, right?
<Want to play Oldschool Alpha / early Beta Minecraft from early 2010s? NOTE: To join Alpha Place, you'll need to use Disc0rd to get whitelisted, sadly. https://alphaplace.net/ The Minecraft version is b1.1_02 1. Download MultiMC https://multimc.org/ (Use 7zip or Winrar to open the zip file) 2. Open & right-click white background to "create instance". – 3. Under "Filter" in the Create Instance window, check "Betas" & "Alphas". (I do version b1.1_02 as an old beta) … 4. Go to settings → Account – and add your Mojang or Microsoft account … 5. Right-click your instance → do "edit instance" → Go to "Version" → Then on the side, click "add to minecraft.jar" → and add the AlphaPlace Client as it is zipped. AlphaPlace Client: https://files.catbox.moe/52p2xr.zip (do not unzip it). … 6. Also on "Edit Instance" go to Settings and enable java arguments and paste -Djava.util.Arrays.useLegacyMergeSort=true -Dhttp.proxyHost=betacraft.uk This under Java arguments^ to fix skins + sound + crashfix … 7. Go to "Servers" under Edit Instance, add a server, & set for address alpha.place OR alphaplace.net

So a trailer for Thaumcraft 7 got released today.... and it looks dissappointing. Probably the format of the """trailer""" itself didnt help it one bit, but then again, mods "needing" trailers at all nowadays is just a part of the major clusterfuck of a modding scene we have right now. The thing is, most of what little was shown was already in previous versions, but now being presented in such a terrible way, and after such long time, makes it look like a mod could easily be done in mcreator. >implying it isnt

I know "what went wrong" is a tired, bankrupt trope, and obviously I can't say the game "went wrong" in general as it's the bestselling game ever. But in earnest, where/why do you think Minecraft went wrong creatively? It's hard not to see the game as a directionless mess.
>>1390479 They went wrong when they started fucking with the combat system and updating the game with new mechanics while abandoning old ones so they are useless. The minecart has no practical use anymore as horses are faster than it and cost less time to acquire. They could have simply made minecarts faster but instead minecarts are in the game just to be there
They should have also made minecarts less expensive too. No way you should need all that iron and it takes an insane amount of time to make any railway that's even decently long
>>1390479 Notch got lazy and Mojang is incompetent. As soon as Notch saw that the game was a success, he immediately started taking week-long vacations, hired a development team to delegate responsibility to, and stopped meeting deadlines for what was promised. After he sold the game and responsibility fell onto Mojang (and later Microsoft), the game lost any specific focus and development was pulled in several different directions (exploration and education in lieu of combat and mechanical depth).
>>1390495 What if a minecart was a mobile big chest? would that make it worth the ludicrously stupid time and effort to dig for metal, smelt it, build railways, lay track, and establish power lines? I've never played Minecraft, so I don't know if that's exactly what's needed.
>>1390601 As a someone who's played both Minecraft and Terraria I can confidently say that all minecarts/tracks really needed was a higher return on investment when it comes to crafting tracks.
>>1390601 they just needed their existing features not to be bad, that's really it when carts were first introduced my first thought was "oh man that'll be awesome, I can setup a track in and out of the caves and send carts full of ore or stone back to the surface so I can keep digging" and the reality was: >cart doesn't keep momentum >cant send the cart too far or it hits an unloaded chunk and stops >powered minecart can't push a single cart up a steep track because the powered cart has virtually no strength >there was no way to empty chest carts when they were introduced >redstone powered rails which were very expensive were the only way to make carts viable for anything it was one of the first of many big letdowns in the game's development history, I still remember how disappointed I was when I first tested the powered cart, it BARELY kept momentum pushing a cart I jumped into on a flat track. Even more hilarious is that carts used to have different collision physics that players could take advantage of to make booster tracks. You could get a cart stuck on a slanted track and if you went past it in another cart, it would collide with the stuck cart, pushing it down the slanted track and the momentum from that would accelerate you forward, these were designed so the booster cart would loop around back into position to accelerate the next cart, or in the opposite position to boost you on the way back. These were incredibly effective, then they changed the collision and ruined the effect, so redstone powered tracks became necessary.
>>1390741 >Even more hilarious is that carts used to have different collision physics that players could take advantage of to make booster tracks. I think that was the first update that actually broke one of my worlds.
I never really liked the way Minecraft developed, and I always bounce off of it, are there any suggestions for mods that: >Reduce the frequency of villages I don't want no villages but they're so common that they are annoying. >Make resource farming less reliant on weird mob spawning mechanics I don't really like farming mobs for resources, I would rather have other methods of obtaining resources automatically, even if it does eventually run dry. Obviously the quarry from that one industrial mod applies, but it's basically the only thing I've ever played with, so something new would be nice. >Make world generation more interesting Pretty obvious. >Increase inventory space I'm a hoarder. >Make larger builds less grindy This is my main issue, I just feel like anything I do takes forever, but I don't want to just go to creative mode to make it either. >Let me turn andesite, diorite, etc into stone or something else I don't have a preferred version.
Eat bread. Ignore adobe.
>>1390479 Around when wolves came out the game started to lose creative direction. Around then the updates became far more infrequent, and contained less real content. A block here, a block there, but nothing really game changing like the addition of redstone or the nether. I think I remember originally Notch said he was inspired by dwarf fortress, and wanted to make a 3d dwarf fortress. I think a lot of the people who initially got interested in the game wanted it to go in that direction, and become more like betterthanwolves or terrafirmacraft, which is why those mods exist and are popular. Maybe that would have made a better game, but I don't think it would have been as popular. A lot of kids and casual players enjoy the more simplistic gameplay of minecraft, so maybe mojang figured they had caught lightning in a bottle and didn't want to mess up the formula. Then post microshart the updates have been even more stupid/memey but that's just how big companies operate. I don't think Jeb has much creative control anymore, and with the wolf update it really became Jeb's game more than Notch's. >>1390795 https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/peaceful-recipes There's a few mods that let you craft independent of monster drops, for people who play on peaceful. Not a clue about the other ones, maybe Iron Chests or a backpack mod for more inventory space. Forestry adds nice backpacks but there's other standalone ones.
>>1390795 for pretty much everything you're looking for, I'd recommend FTB for version 1.6.4 I think it was, which had just added gregtech I think villagers were much more rare then because there was only one kind of village, less places for them to actually generate in resource farming could be done in a multitude of ways, ic2 already makes it possible to farm ores (literally farming them with a high tier crop) or bee breeding which could produce pretty much anything imaginable, gregtech I think added crops for special ores and mob drops at that time it had mystcraft which allowed you to generate crazy dimensions with whatever features you wanted for terrain I think there were many options for increased inventory space, between forestry backpacks, iron chests, factorization barrels, gregtech quantum storage devices which were barrels with a stupid amount of space, I think factorization also had some storage bag which had a pretty unique mechanic to it I forget if there were tools beyond buildcraft specifically for building, I'm sure there was something that fit the bill though, like computercraft turtles, there's just so much that is totally optional to get into but fun to dive into if you want a more vanilla type experience for newer versions... here's some suggestions: >storage Carry on (lets you pick up chests and move them); Storage Drawers (visible storage with capacity upgrades); Sophisticated Backpack (configurable backpacks that can be upgraded) >World gen: Yungs mods (there's a lot that overhauls a lot of the world generation, broken into multiple mods so pick and choose what you want to change) >village frequency: Sparge Structures >resource farming Mystical Agriculture (for basically infinite farming of any resource); or Agricraft (which adds similar infinite resource farming but requires you to cross breed plants to get the right kind and crossbreeds change stats like growth speed/yield) >building Effortless building or Building Wands
>>1390479 i think it went wrong when they started trying to be your fucking 2nd grade teacher if notch put bears in hed make it so you can kill them and use the pelt for something cool if microsoft made rabbits you would not be able to get any resources from killing them and instead they would so some absolutely useless shit like giving you a luck effect when on a lead in a game where the ai is too retarded not to kill itself in lava

Want to play oldschool Minecraft? (without being a Disc0rdcuck) Steps: 1. Download betacraft launcher. https://betacraft.uk/downloads 2. Create an instance in the betacraft launcher for b1.5_01 3. Set version to b1.5_01 4. Put your username in Log In (if you have one) or find one using namemc to play cracked: https://namemc.com/ 4. Go to server list & find "AlphaAnarchy" under Beta servers, click that & launch / log in. EXTRA STEP 5. Hit edit instance & add this to JVM arguments: -Djava.util.Arrays.useLegacyMergeSort=true -Dhttp.proxyHost=betacraft.uk
>>1392328 Nobody needs this special launcher just for beta versions, polymc downloads and runs the beta versions just fine.
>>1392141 >i think it went wrong when they started trying to be your fucking 2nd grade teacher This absolutely. They refused to put sharks in the damn game because they didn't want people harming them and also they didn't want people interacting them in a friendly way either because they were scared that kids would learn to hate sharks or put themselves in danger from trying to pet them, respectively, irl. The also same logic why they never allowed dolphin riding. The best case scenario would have been for Minecraft to have died officially a decade ago and the game being kept alive solely via the fan community.
>>1393156 >kids would learn to hate sharks How dreadful would it be for kids to be wary of sharks. So very dreadful. Thank you, Mojank.

>>1393634 it gets even better because they added the ability to leash villagers, and not just leash villagers, but leash villagers to other villagers, like a chain gang
>>1393634 I think nuMojang has gone on record saying that if they where just adding farm animals today they wouldn't have allowed slaughtering for resources. But those things are grandfathered in and the player base would absolutely revolt if they removed it. >>1393711 >can't ride a dolphin <can Arbeit macht frei all the villagers while endermen stage mostly peaceful protests and steal your watermelons Sasuga Mojang.
>>1393736 >spend days wandering the wilderness, unable to hunt rabbits for some reason but surviving off of apples and mushroom stew >by some miracle manage to find a small groups of cows >build a small enclosure >breed them for sustenance >they just start shitting out steaks from their ass ends like benign tumors, shedding layers of leather hide like lizards molting in the desert heat

Consider the worst versions in Minecraft history. There have been a lot of terrible versions; which version is the very worst? Here are my candidates: beta 1.8: >Hunger & health regen added >Killed Minecraft's fun world generation with boring biomes >Endless ocean biomes >Added sprinting, nerfing rails & the first step in making them obsolete + making spiders less dangerous chasing after you >Changed lightning from the old nostalgic nights that were very dark >The final nail in the coffin to oldschool Minecraft (but Minecraft after beta 1.5 is when oldschool Minecraft really died b/c 1.6 added grass / ferns to the landscape & 1.7 added new cobblestone / brick textures) >Otherwise, people play alpha 1.2.6 or beta 1.7.3 for old Minecraft release 1.7.2+: The Update that Changed the World >Changed cave generation 1.9 Combat Update >Changed combat with cooldown & split the community in half >Added mending (which is OP & effectively can make items unbreakable) >Changed the old glass texture >Added elytra (*all other forms of transportation would become obsolete in 1.11.1 w/ fireworks; rails, horses, honey flying machines, boats, etc -- Ruining the incentive to make creative transportation systems in a building game) 1.13 + 1.14 1.13 >Phantoms added >Fucked Minecraft's optimization & made it laggy / optfine necessary But thankfully blue ice for boats 1.14 >Villager farming set off from here apparently
There's already a Minecraft thread mine fren OPs with YouTube thumbnails as images look silly to me

>>1262821 Any plan to have vines/moss hang from the branches ? >>1343053 I personally started a new world, built some ideas I had, still in the process of developping villages. I kept mentionning here and there that I had started a MC world and sometimes friends/colleagues would express interest, so I uploaded my save to Aternos and we did some quests (bastions, cities) with some who life adventure, we did some redstone farming with one who liked to minmax villagers and do redstone, but they lost interest so now I'm back to caving with enchanted armor and growing an artificial forest on a plain biome mixed with giant mushrooms. I may turn it into an elven village in the future depending on how it turns out, but for now it's just a colorful forest filled with bees. Some britbong made a 1000 pushups challenge video recently, and I loved it because some people came and mocked him, some joined him for a while then got bored, some gave him support. I think the whole thing lasted a couple of hours but the point is you have to keep moving forward. Some people will join you, some will leave, very few will stick. But at the end you have to do stuff for your own sake. Remember that Minecraft itself started this way: a dude made a hobby project. Look where it got him. Look at the fun people had with it.
>>1442068 >>Added mending (which is OP & effectively can make items unbreakable) this is a good thing because durability in every game is a shit mechanic
>>1390479 >>1442068 I think these are both the same question. You can't pin down an exact update or single "thing" that soured Minecraft. It's an accumulation of a decade plus of no direction, questionable design, bloat, and conflicting philosophies. There wasn't a glorious golden era that was suddenly sent into a dark age, it was a gradual process. As another anon said, a big problem with Minecraft is how Mojang still acts like it's in alpha. The game is full of ideas and concepts, concepts that don't go anywhere. They've branched out into so many different things and don't expand upon them. There are a few random real-life minerals as blocks, they added copper but it's barely used for anything, they've added several mobs that don't tie into the gameplay whatsoever. They're still reworking parts of the game, 14 years after 1.0. Minecraft feels like Mojang has no idea what they want it to be, and that's a core driver behind a lot of the game's issues.
>>1442068 1.8 Of course it's 1.8. And 1.21 fucked its rotten corpse.
>>1442565 I think something like Mending became necessary when they added repair limits on the anvil and enchantments (treasure enchants too) in general. As you go farther back in the games history, though, an individual tool matters less and less. It makes for a better gameplay loop, I think, until you consider modded items. If its artificially made to be a pain in the ass to get, I'm less enthusiastic about the durability meme. >>1442709 >full of ideas and concepts, concepts that don't go anywhere. I can't help but always compare Minecraft and Terraria. Terraria is just far better designed and 'together'. I remember quotes from Jeb going "the poisonous potato will never have a use (also implying the same for rotten flesh)." And that's lame. Also doesn't help that Mojang moves at a glacial pace.
>>1442068 >>>Changed cave generation How was cave generation before 1.7? I do enjoy spelunking more than mining out galleries, that kind of mining was just mind-numbing repetition until you found a diamond vein.
>>1482089 It was bad. There was basically no caves so if you didn't like strip mining you were screwed.
>>1485085 that's wrong though, caves were like spaghetti through most of the terrain, one of the most common things to happen was getting lost because you dug straight into a cave noodle and it snaked to dozens of other caves, you could explore for hours on end because for every dead end there was several other paths that branched to new caves it ended up being faster to just dig straight up than to ever try and retrace your steps
>>1485209 Isn't that basically how it is now too? Or am I just so dumb I haven't noticed much change in cave shape.
How are we doing fags? I already got my happy ghast but I'm waiting until every QOL mod I use get updated to actually play this game
>>1059987 Didn't this shit retard game release ghasts as mounts? How fucking stupid can you get as a developer honestly, why do you keep adding soulless bullshit? Why do the ghasts smile? What's with all this lore in my sandbox crafting game?
t. Last played during the shield update just so you know where im coming from.
>>1485217 Since they increased the world height, caves are much bigger technically, but it's not like the spaghetti tunnels of yesteryear, and you're much less likely to get diamonds by just digging a tunnel network at any Y level, a single cave can extend a long way, with few branches, but it's much easier to backtrack because it's not connecting up with multiple caves littering the terrain that just goes on forever down to bedrock. >>1486449 Yes. Which is hilarious because there actually was a mod already to make ghast mounts, but it required actually catching a ghast in the nether, and looked nearly identical to how ghasts were airships for piglins in the movie. The way these happy ghast mounts were implemented both looks dumb and makes no sense. Ghasts are immune to lava and fire, so why would there be tiny ghasts that have to soaked in water, that can't exist in the nether, in order to make them grow? I know they only came up with the convoluted system to make it seem "humane" to be able to ride on ghasts, that the player isn't enslaving ghasts.
>>1486449 I only learned Minecraft had lore recently, and it's absolutely terrible. The most generic "lost ancient civilization; long slumbering evil awaits" shonen tripe. Why does Minecraft need lore? The original game was an abstracted representation of reality.
>>1482089 >How was cave generation before 1.7? Garbage. >I do enjoy spelunking more than mining out galleries, that kind of mining was just mind-numbing repetition until you found a diamond vein. I don't know if I have a minority opinion here, but overall I liked the worldgen changes in 1.18. Playing vanilla it's mostly a matter of preference between the tiny-but-accessible caves of earlier versions and huge-but-inconvenient caves of C&C; underground exploration in modded 1.18+ is fantastic.
>>1490080 it's honestly stupid that they're injecting things to try and build "lore" into it like the foot sniffer, which requires you to go out of your way into a mechanic that as far as I'm aware is not even explained in hints, to get an egg, to raise this ugly pokemon thing that only serves the purpose of procuring otherwise impossible to obtain flowers with... no functionality, and look like something right out of botania same goes for the sculk/warden undergrowth or whatever they call it, supposed to look like an ancient city, which on its own is fine, it compliments the mine shafts and stronghold, but was added to expend on the whole "ancient builder race" lore they came up with and will continue to expand upon to shoehorn in more 2deep4u lore honestly the more they add into it, the less intrigue the world has, like how increasing the world height created that sudden shift in old world saves, so does the introduction of "lore" elements fracture what was already there it goes from being this mostly barren world, populated only by monsters, animals and the odd villager outposts, with rare things that just suggest there was more to it as you explore, like the mineshafts, the rare stronghold, a witches hut, a booby trapped jungle or desert temple, a single desert well, and "dungeons" spawning monsters to protect rather unspectacular loot save for music discs, saddles, or a bit of redstone, or setting out to find that one mooshroom island, to being this cluttered busy world where you can't go a few chunks without finding something, whether that be the abundance of villages, an illager outpost, an igloo in a frozen biome, that faggot wandering villager with 2 llamas that just shows up uninvited no matter where you are, the sculk that you can't seem to avoid no matter where you start digging, the abundance of animals in every biome, all the FISH which annoys me to no end since fishing still works as it did prior to fish entities, and the nether no longer just being a desolate hellscape but flourishing with life and roaming pig people, some additions to the nether were okay, like the bastions, that volcanic rock biome, but it didn't need piglins outside of bastions, or the lush biomes with hoglins that piglins actively hunt (something I wouldn't even know about if it wasn't documented), but nothing feels scarce any more when you're always encountering something, nothing feels out of the ordinary when you find something, it feels calculated and you know you'll encounter it again soon
>>1493280 I mean, they could just as easily add other elements n shit. They have copper now but from what I've seen it doesn't even do anything.
>>1493763 I think they try to avoid making the game more complex so kids don't get confused. Every block added since 1.8 or even earlier has been cosmetic. Or if not (I can't think of anything), it doesn't seriously change the game meta.

>>1493763 >They have copper now but from what I've seen it doesn't even do anything Yes. They added an entire new ore, and you can't make tools out of it. Bravo! I find it comical that Terraria has more tiers of wood than Minecraft has tiers period.
>>1489453 Cave systems pre 1.18 went on forever, but their utility below certain Y-levels was doubtful imo. The newer system has often more defined endpoints while still showing enough precious ores. And if one system is fully explored new ones can be found pretty easily imo. I also like the size of the new cave systems, makes it that easier to expand them into useful rooms. I even installed an auto-clicker to spare my mouse. >>1493280 >"ancient builder race" Oh god, it's that faggot youtuber's lore. I thought his videos were fine, often making stretches and unreasonable assumptions. But all of that was fine, because it was some guy's head-canon. I suspect one or more of the devs might have watched his lore videos and have been taking inspiration on what future structures to implement. Out of curiosity I went to chunk base to look over a map of some random seed in 1.21. Pic related. Guess trial chambers are the Nether-hot new thing. There's the villages obviously, and the ancient cities. Still, is it me or do older structures like desert temples, jungle temples and witchs' huts seem rarer? Regardless the world seems a little too busy as-is. I played beta 1.7.3 not too long ago, for all its missing features I enjoyed how sparser the world really was. Felt more like my world to explore and build in and not a world I had isekai'd stumbled into. >and the nether no longer just being a desolate hellscape but flourishing with life and roaming pig people This as well. The Nether felt like a barren, hostile place. Something about the misty background and remoteness of the netherrack islands was beautiful in their way. It wasn't a place for life like the Overworld but it didn't need to be. Modern Nether's increasingly feels like another Overworld just less lively and significantly hotter. Forests, animals, even intelligent bloody life – in contrast to the zombie piglins. I can see how some might appreciate having a second world to explore but it chips away at its identity as a dangerous, hostile hell. >>1393316 Well at least they aren't feeding Polly a chocolate chip cookie. Seriously. Either they go the full-hog with educating kids or embrace their position as a game of fiction. I blame lazy parents.
>>1493763 There are a few main reasons. >Primary audience comprised of children Kids are where the Minecraft money is at, full stop. There's always another kid turning 5 who wants a copy of Minecraft for his birthday. to say nothing of wanting Minecraft underwear and a Minecraft lunchbox and Minecraft bedsheets. This market can't be sacrificed for anything, so anything added or changed in the game has to be kid-friendly to the lowest common denominator. This affects both the flavor and the technical side of the game's design. >Javascript and legacy support Minecraft is a shithouse mess of janky spaghetti code and fundamentally changing certain things tends to break lots of other things. Compounding this state of affairs is the fact that any usable jank has been an incorporated into standard gameplay for a long time. Case in point, TNT duplication. This is 100% a glitch but it has been a staple of large-scale construction ever since it was discovered because it allows for automated excavation of huge areas and also sees use in traps and farms. >Scope Minecraft was never a game with a huge scope. You mine, you craft, there are two other dimensions to visit and a boss fight. That's it. Even a casual could probably beat the game in a few hours if they beelined to it. Every mod which adds even moderate complexity (say, for example, Tinker's Construct) has to bring infrastructure with it because vanilla Minecraft is simply not equipped for that. If you want to make a mod which allows players to make tumbaga by alloying gold and copper then you will also need a special block to do it because the functionality of vanilla furnaces begins and ends with allowing you to smelt/cook up to one (1) stack of one (1) type of item using up to one (1) stack of one (1) kind of fuel. This can be automated to a degree but the fundamental limitations remain. As always this is exacerbated greatly by consoles because controllers obviate the possibility of complex GUIs. There are more reasons but those are three of the biggest as I see them.
>>1494253 >Modern Nether's increasingly feels like another Overworld just less lively and significantly hotter. Forests, animals, even intelligent bloody life – in contrast to the zombie piglins. I can see how some might appreciate having a second world to explore but it chips away at its identity as a dangerous, hostile hell. Mojang it literally turning the Nether into the Hell Aether. >>1493839 Terraria is and always has just been the better game, even when taking Redigit's autisim moments into account.
>>1494458 I swear if that game had been 3d, it would have stolen the market from under Minecraft's feet. Not that it makes it any worse really just not quite as marketable.
>>1442068 >Phantoms If I wanted to be reminded that I should go to sleep, I'd rather have my dad burst down my door with a belt in his hand. >>1521342 Minetest sucks and will always suck. Minecraft is the goat block builder.
This could have been good but of course Mojang decided it needed to be as bad, if not worse, than modern Minecraft. >combat consists of spamming only a single button >HUD overlaps between players in multiplayer mode so you can't see your items/ammo >healing is broken, no deterrent from running away from a fight and healing infinitely >nonsensical plot >you can't jump >every level is the same: walk down a hallway, fight a couple of bastards, walk down another hallway >cannot import the skin you use in Minecraft! >painful OST >retarded sound effects like the ones from that item merchant >enemies never react to anything you hit them with unless they are frozen or stunned so it doesn't look or feel like you're hitting anything >game was very obviously "programmed" using block code >can't rotate the camera >can't run away and explore if you aren't Player 1 since you teleport right back to where you were previously once you're off camera >you play as a super duper powerful legendary hero but can't hang from ledges or SWIM >fishing rod can't be used to catch fish for free food, instead it stuns enemies which isn't possible in regular Minecraft. It is also the most broken item in the game, trivializing the already mediocre, piss-easy "combat"
Well mojang finally added copper golems >spawning a copper golem consists of placing pumpkin on top of copper block >copper block turns into copper chest >copper golem sorts anything you put in the chest to a nearby chest with at least 1 of that item It's useful I guess?
>>1521387 I never understood the hype for Minetest or Vintage Story. Just seems like the contrarian picks instead of just playing Minecraft normally with some mods or an old version or something
>>1523978 >contrarian people aren't playing those to be contrarian, people want to play vintage story because they want an experience like terrafirma craft without the jank of minecraft, and it adds it's own lore and modding api people want to play minetest because they want an actual modding api without the minecraft jank although I still say minetest needs to add a lot more to the engine because the modding api is far too barebones, it should not fall on the modders to modify the engine to make the api actually useful because otherwise you get jankiness of mobs implemented entirely in lua
>>1523674 >Mojang finally adding copper tools five years after adding copper >Mojang finally a adding a (shitty) method to sort chests fourteen years after 1.0 These things should not have taken this long to come into existence. Games should not take this long to add such simple features. I am preaching to the choir. Still having an interest in Minecraft is maddening, like a realm of torment in and of itself.
>>1524685 https://www.dexerto.com/minecraft/how-to-make-new-minecraft-copper-tools-armor-chest-3221736/ >copper is between iron and stone in durabilitiy >you cannot mine with copper what you can with stone So it's still completely and utterly worthless. Iron is literally everywhere in Minecraft, why would you ever need even an ingot of this copper crap?
>>1526743 why, to build a COPPERCABANA of course
>>1524685 Suddenly I don't feel as bad when it comes to Terraria's newest update taking 2 years. At least they introduce something cool once in a while, like the void bag, or the shimmer.
>>1526743 you cannot mine with copper what you can with iron* Not sure how I missed that.
>>1524685 >>1526743 honestly annoyed copper tools is what they went with, unless it has some advantage above stove and iron, it's still really useless >less plentiful than stone >can't mine anything above stone level pickaxe >more plentiful than iron >can only provide armor that's worse than iron I would rather they have added more variety of utility items with copper since that seemed to be the direction for copper when it was first introduced >make lightning rod that attracts lightning in thunderstorms >make spyglass to zoom in on far away structures why not have more items providing unique utility like that? something that can actually utilize the lightning rods ability to attract lightning, like BOTTLED LIGHTNING, that you could throw at creepers to charge them or stun mobs, a trap made of copper that holds a lightning charge and electocutes mobs that activate it like, you could just throw empty bottles into a brewing stand, put a lightning rod on top, and wait for a thunderstorm, bam, easy mechanic for a new item with an actual purpose that doesn't add new blocks add copper pressure plates that connect to adjacent copper pressure plates like a wire, if they touch a copper block with a brewing stand containing bottled lighting it zaps mobs walking over it 3 times, using up 1 charge per bottle or just more things that could take advantage of redstone
>>1523978 Vintage story is its own thing, being tfc but implemented better. I wouldn't play it because I don't enjoy playing a game where it takes real life weeks to build a house (why not just build one irl innawoods at that point?) but I can understand why people might enjoy that. It is a functional, complete game with unique mechanics. Minetest feels like an inferior open source minecraft made by smug trannies... because that's what it is. It's just a worse version of the same game. It's worse than indev minecraft despite years of development time. Who is this game even for? Who would play this for any other reason than because they just hate mojang/minecraft and want to feel special by playing fake minecraft? It's total garbage.
>>1528526 There are millions of mods out there that probably make better use of copper as a resource (including ones that existed before it even got added) but here's just a few off the top of my head: >copper tipped arrows that can attract lightning to a mob in a thunderstorm if struck with them >spyglass + leather helmet to make a wearable pair of goggles that give the utility of a spyglass while taking up the head armor slot instead of an inventory slot >copper + redstone to make something similar to a command block to save space in a larger redstone circuit >copper pipes that can be placed along floors/walls/ceilings and can be used to pump water to another point >just add tin too, and make a bronze tier of equipment above stone but below iron >use copper to do literally fucking anything with minecarts and rails, they've been fucking useless for a decade already There's so much they could have done, especially since copper is widely used in electronics. It's almost like they made it even more useless than it already was.
>>1529177 I was just trying to think of things that wouldn't go beyond the scope of minecrafts simple mechanics and without needing to add more "machines" to utilize copper. Although since automatic crafting tables are a thing now, that would have been the perfect opportunity to use copper for a recipe, even though it would break from convention with the likes of the dispenser and dropper. Copper was such an odd addition because it's so useless on it's own that outside of electronics the only uses I can think of would be in the realm of fantasy, and I highly doubt mojang will add so much as electric power to the game, if they at least added tin with copper players could have a proper bronze armor and tools, but then they probably couldn't think of a way to alloy the 2 outside of the crafting table.
>>1534913 > if they at least added tin with copper players could have a proper bronze armor and tools, but then they probably couldn't think of a way to alloy the 2 outside of the crafting table. they could overhaul the stupid blast furnace into the "metalworking/alloying furnace" and open up a whole new way for crafting or just use the smithing table to combine tin and copper into bronze alloy
>>1528526 I was thinking about this, I though that all copper tools and armor can be automatically enchanted when crafted and every item that gets smelted spits out 1 full copper bar (no nuggets). Ban enchants higher than 3 from showing up, mending, and curses from popping up. Or make it a lower tier Enchant table with copper adding random effects for cheap. Another idea i had was copper plating that took 4 ingots, that mimic'd the orginal tool's speed, enchantments and breaking power that protected the host tool's durability, until the copper shattered off into a bar. And ofc the usual "better ideas" of replacing powered rails with copper and kicking gold-powered rails to be even faster with a copper minecart upgrades like speed limiters (or just have that built in), along with giving a copper utility armor. EX: a chestplate/offhand tool that grants longer reach and the ability to place all blocks at the same speed as scaffolding at the (cost of dealing no damage) or somekinda legs that added just enough jump to clear fences(without carpets) >why not they're wishy washy in general. It feels like they want the base version to be good but also hate it sometimes, like the current vanilla PvP seems untouchable-holy to them but they are openly hostile towards anykind of larger scale/automatic farming. if I had to steelman the devs, I'd say Micropenis reached down and complained to mojang to add more shit for copper so they took the lazyest route and slapped it between Iron and Stone since Stone's armor (chainmail) is uncraftable. The rusty ironman version is the newtools is just padding because they couldn't be bothered to make something else for the Cgolem update
