Banjo-Kazooie Decompilation Anonymous 08/31/2024 (Sat) 14:22:19 Id: 23fbe7 No. 1007858
If you haven't heard by now, Banjo-Kazooie recently got decompiled. You can find the source code for it here: https://github.com/n64decomp/banjo-kazooie https://gitlab.com/banjo.decomp/banjo-kazooie Here's a video of Kaze discussing the decomp and what it means for Banjo modding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH1ErhJa3Qo
To anyone wondering: I just checked. No, this isn't a PC port. From what I hear it's going to be a while before someone goes through the effort of writing the PC port based on this project, similar to the SM64 and OOT decompilations.
>>1007858 Happy to see, but Croc was better
>>1007894 Not even close. This is the PlayStation fanboy equivalent of a Nintendo fanboy arguing Quest 64 is better than Final Fantasy 7.

>>1007894 They're not really the same kinds of game, Croc is a very rigid platformer and Banjo is more about collecting stuff. People only compare them because they were both popular 3D mascot platformers in the late 90s but the gameplay is radically different, it would be like trying to compare Quake and Deus Ex. That said I prefer Croc and most other 3D platformers to most of Rare's output. Ever play DK64? Misery.
Rare's output came second to only Nintendo's in quality on N64. DK64's no Banjo but far better than Croc, which compared to platformers on N64 is somewhere above Glover and below Gex.
I'm interested in people explaining all stupid things find in the code, from mistakes to possible exploits.
>>1007905 Quest 64 and Final Fantasy 7 aren't really the same kind of game. Quest 64 is a bright and upbeat RPG and FF7 is more about terrorism. People only compare them because they were both popular 3D role-playing games in the late 90s but the plotlines are radically different, it would be like trying to compare Quake and Deus Ex. That said I prefer Quest 64 and most other 3D RPGs to most of Square's output. Ever play Final Fantasy 8? Misery.
>>1007958 crazy cheats can turn up when people browse code. Someone found the multiplayer mode in Super Punch Out like that.
This thread feels like it has a lot of samefagging but I can't tell who's doing what
>>1007969 Are you Mark? I'm Mark, Hi Mark!
>>1007966 The fuck, there's multiplayer in SPO?
>>1007975 28 years later, Super Punch-Out!!’s 2-player mode has been discovered https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2022/08/28-years-later-super-punch-outs-two-player-mode-has-been-discovered/ >This menu can be accessed by holding the R and Y buttons on player two's controller at the "press start" screen, then pressing Start or A with player one's controller. Do this, and a new menu appears, displaying all 16 boxers' profile icons. Pick any of these icons to engage in a one-off fight; once it's over, you're dumped back to the same boxer-select menu. >In this menu, friends can access a two-player fight if player two holds their B and Y buttons down until the match starts. You won't hear a sound effect or any other indication that it worked. Instead, the match will begin with the second player controlling the "boss" boxer at the top of the screen. Combine the "ABXY" array of buttons with "up" and "down" on the D-pad to pull off every single basic and advanced attack.
>>1007980 Archive your shit nigger.
Donkey Kong 64 is better than Banjo.
>>1007888 I just hope someone mods the game so that you don't lose your collected items after dying. What the fuck were they thinking? I could finish a full arcade title with the amount of time recollecting everything takes, and I could have much more fun while doing that. Imagine DK64 making you collect all the fucking bananas with each kong every single time you left a stage, and in order to keep the progress up you have to not only collect the ones you missed but the ones you already had before. It's an insane waste of time.
>>1008011 Why did you delete this?
>>1008048 Felt it was just a shitty take to fight some strawman.
>>1008078 Not that shitty they're both good games
>make post >don't feel like deviating the thread to that direction, delete post >mods being fags decide to bring the post back because ????
>>1007888 >From what I hear it's going to be a while before someone goes through the effort of writing the PC port based on this project, similar to the SM64 and OOT decompilations. Why, shouldn't it be simple if the decompilation is done?
>>1008100 N64 games were written in a weird version of C. For example they didn't use the main() function, stdin/stdout, and had a somewhat different standard library. It's not as simple as changing the API calls to Vulkan or something like that. You need to restructure the code to work on a normal C compiler.
>>1008157 What came of N64Recomp? Could people use that? https://github.com/N64Recomp/N64Recomp
My nephew will love to hear this news. He won't understand what it actually means, but the little fucker loves Banjo-Kazooie. Like, if there's a B-K equivalent to Sonic autism, he'll probably be on that bandwagon.
